<p>“The tissue still has enough structure to hold together but it is soft enough to allow the neurons to grow into each other and start talking to each other,” Zhang added.</p>

<p>Yuanwei Yan, a scientist in Zhang’s lab, said the tissues stayed relatively thin, which allowed the neurons to easily access oxygen and enough nutrients from the growth media.</p>

<h2><strong>Communication between neurons</strong></h2>

<p>The neurons communicate with each other, send signals and interact through neurotransmitters, and even form proper networks with support cells that were added to the printed tissue.</p>

<p>“We printed the cerebral cortex and the striatum and what we found was quite striking,” Zhang said. “Even when we printed different cells belonging to different parts of the brain, they were still able to talk to each other in a very special and specific way,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>How does the chip work?</strong></h2>

<p>As per the report, the chip's five components replicate the human heart, lungs, kidney, liver, and brain. They are connected by channels that mimic the circulatory system, through which the medicines can be pumped.</p>

<p>The chip uses positron emission tomography (PET) scanning to produce detailed 3D images showing what is going on inside the organs. A PET scan is an imaging test that produces images of human organs and tissues at work. It involves an injection of a safe radioactive tracer that helps detect diseased cells. This type of scan detects early signs of cancer, heart disease, and brain conditions.</p>

<p>“The PET imagery is what allows us to ensure the flow [of new drugs being tested] is even,” Liam Carr, the inventor of the body-on-chip, told The Guardian.</p>

<h2><strong>‘A valuable tool’</strong></h2>

<p>“This device is the first to be designed specifically for measuring drug distribution, with an even flow paired with organ compartments that are large enough to sample drug uptake for mathematical modelling," Carr said.</p>

<p>He added the chip could be a valuable tool for investigating various human diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Carr’s supervisor, Dr Adriana Tavares said that linking five organs together on one device would help scientists effectively study how a new medicine might affect a patient’s whole body.</p>

<p>As&nbsp;per ICON, over a third of the homes' walls have been printed. The 3D-printed homes range in size from 1,500 to 2,100 square feet and consist of three to four bedrooms and are priced between $475,000 and $599,000.</p>

<p>Mark Zuckerberg, famous for building arguably the most famous social media platform Facebook and the Metaverse, is now "building" dresses. Recently, the tech mogul took to Instagram to share pictures of 3D-printed dresses he made for his daughter.</p>

<p>The Facebook CEO posted pictures of his daughter wearing the 3D printed clothes with the caption, "I love building things and recently started designing and 3D printing dresses with the girls. A few projects from the last month."</p>

<p>He also revealed that for this special project, he learned to sew. "and yes, I had to learn to sew," he wrote.</p>

<p>In 2019, another American designer, Travis Fitch, also unveiled a collection of 3D-printed clothes.</p>

<p>Adidas too has launched shoes made using this technology. The company's Futurecraft 4D project creates shoes with a midsole created in partnership with Carbon 3D. These shoe midsoles are made using recycled plastic found in the ocean.</p>

<p>Not only this 3D printed jewellery is also a thing. According to Sculpteo, the technology is actually more sustainable than textiles as it "only need to use the amount of material that is needed to create your project."</p>
