Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed a reporter for asking him why Black voters should trust him during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists' annual convention in Chicago on Wednesday (July 31).

ABC's Rachel Scott questioned the former president about why Black voters should trust him despite his past comments where he called Black journalists 'losers' and 'stupid'.

"You have used words like 'animal' and 'rabid' to describe Black district attorneys. You've attacked Black journalists—calling them losers, saying the questions that they asked are quote, 'stupid' and 'racist'. "Why should Black voters trust you after you have used language like that?" Scott asked.

She called it the "elephant in the room" after expressing gratitude to Trump for attending and pointing out that many people believed he shouldn't be at the convention.

"First of all, I don't think I have ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner, the first question. You don't even say Hello! how are you? Are you with ABC? Because I think they are a fake news network and a terrible network. And I think it's disgraceful that I came here in good spirits. I love the Black population of this country. I have done so much for the Black population of the country, including employment...," Trump responded.

"I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln,” Trump said.

"A lot of the journalists in this room are Black," he also said. "I will tell you that, coming from the border, there are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking Black jobs," he added.

"What exactly is a Black job, sir?” Scott asked.

"A Black job is anybody that has a job. They're taking the employment away from Black people," Trump replied.

“I’ve been waiting for a half hour. The speaker equipment at the NABJ is not working properly. Don’t blame me for being late!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Former President Donald Trump claimed that his 2024 Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, "happened to turn Black" a few years ago, suggesting that "all of a sudden, she made a turn" in her identity.

Trump's comments came in response to an interviewer asking if he agreed with Republicans who labelled Harris as a "DEI hire."

He said that Harris has always promoted her Indian heritage. She was only known for her Indian heritage. He said that it wasn't known to him that she was Black until a few years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black.

"So, is she Indian or is she Black?" Trump asked.

Trump said that either one is respected by him, but not by Harris, because she was Indian all the way, and then suddenly, a turn was made and she became a Black person.

The NABJ's decision to interview Trump has caused anger among its members. While some believe Trump shouldn't be given a platform, others argue that voters need to see him as he truly is so that they can make an informed decision about supporting him. Considering Trump's efforts to win over Black voters, it is understandable why some see this interview as necessary.

Trump slams ‘disgraceful’ Black journalist for asking: ‘Why should Black voters trust you?’

Former President Donald Trump is set to become the GOP nominee for president at this week's Republican National Convention, just days after surviving an assassination attempt.

Days after former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt, he is set to become the GOP nominee for president at this week's Republican National Convention which commences on Monday (July 15).

The four-day event starts two days after a gunman fired shots at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The bullet grazed Trump's ear. The shooter was identified by the Secret Service as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed on the spot by a Secret Service sniper.

Following the incident federal, state, and local law enforcement officials were on high alert and new security changes were planned.

What happens at the RNC and its significance?

On Monday, a roll call vote involving almost 2,400 delegates from across the country will officially nominate Trump.

States release their delegate counts in alphabetical order, and delegate voting methods are dictated by state party regulations. The vote, meanwhile, is mostly symbolic because Trump won the nomination in March by gathering the necessary 1,125 delegates. On Thursday night, Trump will likely formally accept the nomination in a speech.

In addition to the formalities, the Republican Party will adopt a new platform, which includes softer language on abortion, proposing the issue be decided by individual states. The platform also calls for the building of a missile-proof shield over the United States, tax cuts, and mass deportation of unauthorised immigrants.

This year's convention will be hosted in the Fiserv Forum arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Milwaukee is considered a Democratic stronghold and hosting the convention in Wisconsin is a message in itself.

When does the RNC start and end?

The convention will run from Monday to Thursday. The first formal session will begin on Monday at 12:45 PM local time, with major speeches slated for the evening.

Lara Trump teased the roaster, noting "unlikely people, celebrities who maybe you've never heard from," who support Trump and conservative principles.

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, who dropped out of the January primary and backed Trump is also a key speaker. Nikki Haley, another primary challenger, has also accepted an offer to speak.

The most anticipated speeches include Trump and his vice-presidential nominee, who is expected to be named soon. It is customary for the vice-presidential nominee to speak on Wednesday and the presidential nominee to speak on Thursday, the last night of the convention.

Republican National Convention 2024: Full schedule, key speakers, significance and all you need to know

As the US Presidential race heats up, Joe Biden's campaign is trying to shore up support and expand its war chest. Three Democrat Presidents will come together at first-of-its-kind fundraiser this spring. Watch this report for more details!

Three US Presidents, one stage: Biden, Obama & Clinton unite at New York fundraiser to fight Trump

Warning bells have been ringing in the White House for quite some time now, and per the administration’s own officials, Donald Trump is to be blamed for this.

Last week, the former US president said he wanted to be a “dictator for one day” if re-elected to a second term. In response, White House officials declared him the biggest threat to American democracy.

Such concerns have been exacerbated by the fact that Trump has been extremely popular among Republican voters, with above 50 per cent of them throwing their weight behind him.

His ever-expanding legal miseries seem to have failed to shake his expansive support base on the conservative flank.

Three years ago, some political pundits wrote off Trump as vanquished, humiliated and gone forever; only to be truly stunned by his remarkable comeback.

With the next US presidential elections just 11 months away, here we look at four major reasons why Donald Trump could register a victory against his Democratic rival Joe Biden.

Poor Bidenomics

The Biden White House claims that the economy is doing well. Unemployment has dropped to 3.9 per cent, a near-historic low, down from 6.3 per cent when Trump left office amidst COVID-19 disruption.

Inflation has also cooled from over 9 per cent in June 2022 to 3.2 per cent in October 2023. Despite these positive indicators, many people, especially voters of colour and young voters, disagree.

They argue that wages are not keeping up with the rising costs of essential goods and services like groceries, cars, houses, and childcare.

When Biden talks about the economy, people are more concerned about affordability than economic statistics.

Half of Americans say their financial situation is worse off than it was three years ago during the last presidential election, according to a recent survey reported by Fox Business.

Meanwhile, Trump has promised to make radical changes in the country's tax, market and foreign trade regime that, he claims, will upend the sorry state of the economy.

Public perception and Republican appeal

Public opinion polls reveal that, by a significant margin, voters see Republicans as better economic stewards, even though Trump's proposals are often vague.

Many people feel unsettled for reasons beyond the economy.

Trump taps into the concerns of many white Americans who worry about the increasing diversity and cultural progressiveness of the country.

There's also a widespread sense that key aspects of American life, such as home ownership, decent wages, and college education, are becoming harder to attain.

Voters express anxiety about crime and illegal border crossings, issues Trump skillfully addresses, positioning himself as both the problem identifier and the solution.

Trump's image and support

Critics within the Democratic Party, his own party, and the media consider Trump unfit for office. However, millions of voters disagree, viewing him as a victim of a political witch hunt.

Many of his supporters are ready to vote for him even if he were convicted of a crime. Trump highlights his four years in office, arguing that the government functioned well despite chaotic moments and unproven allegations, such as collusion with Russia.

Instead, Trump has leveraged the ever-expanding list of criminal cases against him, while garnering sympathy among the masses and showcasing himself as the ultimate saver who must be saved.

As per the latest media reports, Trump is leaving no stone unturned to monetise his infamous mugshot. Earlier this week, he said that snippets of the suit he wore for that photo would be available for purchase, as part of a new sale of NFT “digital trading cards,” a product he debuted in late 2022.

“It was a great suit, believe me, a really good suit. It’s all cut up, and you’re gonna get a piece of it,” Trump said in a video on Truth Social.

Biden's challenges and Trump's advantage

Biden's efforts to showcase his job-creation policies, involving government investment in infrastructure, clean energy, and chip manufacturing, have struggled to convince a significant portion of the public that these policies are positively impacting their lives.

Additionally, Biden faces challenges related to foreign wars. His unconditional support to Ukraine has not gone down well with a lot of Republicans, who believe fixing issues at home should be the administration’s biggest responsibility.

On the other hand, Trump's "America first" message aligns with voters wary of further US involvement abroad. Trump can leverage these factors to appeal to those who prefer a non-interventionist foreign policy.

While these four reasons don’t necessarily mean that Trump is on his way to return to the White House, they very well reflect his strong political muscle that has spurred concerns even amongst the Democrats and White House officials.

Explained | Donald Trump might still win 2024 presidential elections. Here are some reasons

As the 2024 United States Presidential elections approach, incumbent Joe Biden and his second-in-command Kamala Harris over the weekend met with the top 150 donors in Washington, DC, to develop a successful strategy to raise funds for their re-election campaign.

Leading Indian-American fundraiser, Ajay Jain Bhutoria was among the 150 donors the duo met.

Bhutoria's presence at the event limited to 150 donors nationwide as per PTI speaks of the growing influence and representation of the Indian-American community in US national politics.

He is also the Democratic Party deputy national finance chair. This role, as per PTI, also emphasises the importance of fundraising efforts and the role of donors in shaping the future of American politics.

The event marked the first in-person donor conference by President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris. Quoting people present at the conference, PTI reports that at the event, Democratic Party officials presented their campaign strategy and began their fundraising efforts. Reportedly, for this election cycle they've set the goal of USD 2 Billion — double the USD 1 billion raised last time.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris woo donors for presidential election 2024 re-run

Former President Donald Trump said that royals Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, and other celebrities like Richard Nixon, Oprah Winfrey, and Hillary Clinton "kissed my ass" once upon a time. Trump made these claims while promoting a soon-to-be-released book titled "Letters to Trump". Speaking to Breitbart, Trump said that he "knew them all — and every one of them kissed my ass, and now I only have half of them kissing my ass."

Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr from his ex-wife Ivana Trump, claimed that the tone of these celebrities witnessed a drastic u-turn when his father ran for office. He said that the book will shine a light on "how phoney" the disdain of these people is.
