<p>A group of MPs from the opposition alliance INDIA will visit Manipur on July 29 and 30 to assess the situation in the northeastern state which has been engulfed in ethnic violence since May 3.</p>

<p>The delegation of more than 20 opposition MPs will visit Manipur this weekend and will take a first-hand account of the situation in the state, Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore told PTI.</p>

<p>Sources said that one MP each from parties of INDIA bloc or their representatives are expected to be part of the delegation.</p>

<p>The delegation will visit both the valley and the hill regions of the state and meet different communities there. They will also visit some relief camps.</p>

<p>TMC's Sushmita Dev, JMM's Mahua Maji and NCP's Vandana Chavan are likely to be part of the delegation.</p>

<p>Earlier, the opposition bloc had wanted a delegation of chief ministers to visit the state but the idea was dropped due to logistical issues, sources said.</p>

<p>The opposition bloc had been demanding that a delegation of their leaders be allowed to visit the state but till now they had been denied permission in view of the situation there.</p>

<p>The newly formed alliance of 26 opposition parties, INDIA or Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, will be bringing a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha against the government on Wednesday, July 26,&nbsp;Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told ANI news agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As the Manipur issue continues to remain a hot topic in national politics, the alliance has formed a notice draft. The notice needs to be supported by the signatures of at least 50 Members of Parliament. In order for the House Speaker to read the notice, the front needed&nbsp;to submit the same before 10 am on Wednesday, PTI news agency said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition, Congress had&nbsp;also issued a whip in Lok Sabha for the party members to be present in its parliamentary office "to discuss some important issues" by 10:30 am.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the alliance leaders said the meeting was held to force the Indian government to hold a discussion on the Manipur issue. It is not just in Lok Sabha that the opposition alliance INDIA is trying to target the government. Its strategy is also to continue building pressure on the government in the Rajya Sabha.&nbsp;</p>

It is a matter of perception. We are working on it now and we will make sure we submit it before 10 am tomorrow," said a senior leader of the alliance.</p>

<p>"The overall parliamentary strategy is in place for the INDIA parties. Tactics to execute that strategy evolve every day. Rule 198 of the Lok Sabha states the procedure of moving a no-confidence motion. 'Picture abhi baki hai' (the story is still unfolding)!" said Derek O'Brien, Trinamool's leader in Rajya Sabha.</p>

<h2><strong>Indian government ready for discussion&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to the leaders of Opposition in both Houses saying that the Indian government is ready for a discussion. "They (Opposition) are not interested in co-operation, they are not interested in Dalits, nor in the welfare of women, so their sloganeering is very obvious. However, I want to say again that I have written to the leaders of Opposition in both Houses that I am ready for a detailed debate on Manipur. The government has no fear and anyone who wants to discuss is welcome," the home minister said in Lok Sabha.</p>

<p>"The government is ready to discuss the issue of Manipur and seeks cooperation from all the parties, rising above party lines. I hope that all the parties will cooperate in resolving this important issue," he wrote.</p>

<p>A government release said, "The Convention Centre is developed as the centrepiece of the Pragati Maidan complex. It is a grand architectural marvel, designed to host large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other prestigious events. It is equipped with multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, an amphitheatre and a business centre, making it capable of hosting a wide range of events."</p>

I am sure the 'Toli' (opposition alliance) will also accept 'Bharat Mandapam' and it is also possible that they might come here to deliver a lecture in a seminar."&nbsp;</p>

This shows that the decisions and policies that have been made in the last 9 years, are taking the country in the right direction," PM Modi said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We demand a statement to be made by the prime minister in the House on the burning and emotive issue of Manipur which is adversely affecting the Indian democratic polity followed by a detailed and comprehensive discussion," Kharge said in his notice while pointing out that violence continues even after two months in the northeastern state.</p>

<p>The Indian government had banned the export of non-basmati white rice on July 20, in order to enhance domestic supply and stabilise local retail prices during the approaching festive season. The export policy was amended from ‘Free with export duty of 20%’ to ‘Prohibited’ immediately.</p>

<p>IMF’s chief economist, Pierre-Oliver Gourinchas, said in a press conference that given the environment, restriction in the export of rice would increase food prices globally. This could also lead to counter measures.</p>

<p>"So, they are certainly something that we would encourage the removal of these types of export restrictions, because they can be harmful globally,” PTI quoted Gourinchas as saying.</p>

<p>In a statement, India’s food ministry had said that no changes would be made in the export policy of par-boiled and basmati rice, which constitutes a major chunk of rice exports from the country.</p>

<p>Total exports of non- basmati rice from India in financial year 2022-23 was $4.2 million in comparison to $2.62 million last year. Non-basmati white rice accounts for about 25 per cent of the total rice exported from India, with major exports to the US, Thailand, Italy, Spain and Sri Lanka.</p>
