World No. 4 Arjun Erigaisi has had a stellar 2024 season. The 21-year-old became the youngest Indian to cross 2800 mark in live ELO ratings and also played a key role in India's historic victory at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. Erigaisi stunned World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in a blitz game at the Tata Steel Chess India tournament earlier this month. He speaks to Wion's Nikhil Mathur on that and much more.

Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh clinched his first win over defending champion Ding Liren in the World Chess Championship, outplaying the Chinese on time control in the third round to draw level on points on Wednesday.

Having lost the first game rather badly with black pieces, Gukesh struck gold thanks to his preparation that gave him a huge advantage on the clock as Liren spent a lot of time mulling his moves in the first phase of the game.

Both players now have 1.5 points each after the second game ended in a draw on Tuesday.

"It feels great. The last two days I was happy with my play. My play today was even better, I feel good at the board and today I just managed to outplay my opponent which is always nice," Gukesh, who played with white, said in the post-game press conference in Singapore.

By move 13th, the 18-year-old from Chennai had a lead of one hour on the clock as he had spent just four minutes compared to Liren's one hour and six minutes.

With 40 moves to make in the first 120 allotted minutes without any increment, the complicated middle game had the desired impact on Liren, and Gukesh was relentless in finding out some difficult yet perfect moves to increase the pressure.

The players followed a much less-played variation in the topical Queen's Gambit declined and Gukesh followed an idea played by former world champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in a rapid game against highest rated Indian Arjun Erigaisi.

While that game had ended in a draw after Erigaisi survived a real scare, Gukesh delved deeper in the position and capitalised on some unforced errors by Liren.

The 32-year-old Liren had his light square Bishop under the scanner after the Queens were traded early leading to a queen-less middle game. With imaginative manoeuvres, Gukesh trapped the bishop parting with just two pawns in the process.

If Liren thought there was still counterplay, Gukesh disagreed completely, as he put his pieces around the centre to keep his position intact and gave no chances whatsoever in the resulting position.

Adding to the Chinese' woes was the clock as he barely had two minutes to make the last nine moves. Gukesh was at the top of his game and went for some tactical complications, threatening to trap the black king or to win more material.

Liren fell further on the clock and was just left with less than 10 seconds for the last six moves.

It was a hopeless situation when Liren ran out of time after 37 moves giving Gukesh his first victory in the showpiece.

Gukesh is aiming to become the first Indian after Viswanthan Anand to claim the coveted crown. Anand won the world championship five times in his glorious career and has been a mentor to Gukesh.

Thursday will be the first rest day of the event.

Chess World Championship: India's D Gukesh registers win over defending champion Ding Liren on time in Round 3

World number one Jannik Sinner said his off-court turmoil over doping accusations was "heartbreaking", after winning the Davis Cup with Italy on Sunday to complete a stellar year. The 23-year-old won the Australian Open, US Open and ATP Finals before starring for Italy as they claimed a second consecutive Davis Cup triumph, but admitted he is not able to play with a completely clear head.

Sinner is still waiting for the outcome of the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) appeal against his initial exoneration for twice testing positive for traces of the steroid clostebol in March.

"Of course it's in the head a little bit," said Sinner. "The most important part is all the people who are around me, who know me as a human being trust me -- that's also why I kept playing the level I have.

"Those who know me, I was emotionally a bit down, a bit heartbroken. Sometimes life gives you difficulties and you just have to (deal with) it."

After Italy defeated the Netherlands in the final, Dutch captain Paul Haarhuis said from the outside the doping case against Sinner was impossible to analyse.

"About doping, we never know what happened," said Haarhuis. "What's my feeling? Jannik is an unbelievable nice guy, a great player, but we never know what happened."

Sinner prevously told the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) that small quantities of clostebol found in his system were due to "contamination by a member of his staff who had applied an over-the-counter spray containing clostebol on his own hand to treat a small wound".

The ITIA accepted Sinner's claim and he escaped a lengthy ban, but WADA appealed and is demanding a suspension of one to two years.

Sinner became the first player since 20-time Grand Slam winning Swiss great Roger Federer in 2005 to go through a season without a defeat in straight sets.

The Italian defeated Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor in the second singles rubber to clinch the Davis Cup, after Matteo Berrettini beat Botic van de Zandschulp in the opener.

"Coming back as defending champions and winning again is one of the best feelings," said Sinner. "I'm very happy and glad that we managed this. The whole team, we gave 100 percent, there's a lot of work behind the scenes which all of you cannot see."

Berrettini had a superb tournament, winning once in doubles against Argentina in the last eight and singles rubbers against Australia and Netherlands.

The 2021 Wimbledon runner-up hailed Sinner's performance over the season, since he inspired Italy to glory a year ago.

"It's a special experience (to watch Sinner)... last year when we were here we were looking in each other's eyes and saying that this guy is someone else, something different," said Berrettini. "We'd never seen someone hitting the ball so hard, so flat, since then he's lost six matches and as you can see he's the most humble guy on the planet."

Tennis: Italy’s Davis Cup winner Jannik Sinner ‘heartbroken’ over doping accusations

Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal in five games for Real Madrid as the champions beat Leganes 3-0 on Sunday in La Liga. Fede Valverde and Jude Bellingham also struck as Madrid moved second, four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand.

Los Blancos capitalised after Barcelona slipped to a draw at Celta Vigo on Saturday with a straightforward win against 14th-placed Leganes.

Madrid face Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday in the Champions League in a crucial game for the Spanish side after two defeats in their first four European matches and warmed up with a solid performance.

"The team managed the good feelings that we had in the (previous 4-0 win) against Osasuna well, and we confirmed them today," said Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian lined up with young centre-back Raul Asencio as well as Dani Ceballos, who was afforded a rare start and Turkish playmaker Arda Guler.

Ancelotti was missing long-term absentees Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao among others, but was able to bring goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois back in for the visit to Butarque, in the Madrid suburbs.

Mbappe started in his favoured left wing position, a change of strategy from Ancelotti after using Vinicius Junior there until now.

It paid dividends as the forward netted his second goal in his last eight games, although he had a strike ruled out for offside beforehand.

"We changed the position of the forwards, with Mbappe outside and he did well, like Vinicius inside," said Ancelotti.

Mbappe was left out of France's squad for the second time in as many months during the recent international break and has been struggling with off-field problems, possibly affecting his start to life at Madrid following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.

Guler had Madrid's first real chance but Marko Dmitrovic parried his effort after the midfielder cut in from the right.

Mbappe broke the deadlock shortly before half-time, teed up at the back post by Vinicius, who nipped in to capitalise on some Leganes defensive confusion.

<h2>Sealing the win</h2>

Valverde, captaining Madrid for the first time and playing out of position at right-back, drilled home his team's second in the 66th minute from a free-kick.

Dmitrovic thwarted a powerful Mbappe strike as the French forward looked to grab a second and seal Madrid's win.

In the end it was England star Bellingham, netting his second goal of the season, heading home a rebound from close range after Brahim Diaz's deflected shot hit the crossbar.

"We were very comfortable in the first half, playing the game we wanted to, but (to concede) after a mistake... hurts more, it got away from us because of our errors," admitted Leganes defender Sergio Gonzalez. "The team gave everything, and with the smallest opportunities, they punished us."

Ancelotti was happy with 21-year-old centre-back Asencio's performance on his first start for the club.

"It surprised me in that he's a player with maturity, always well positioned, very well positioned, and it means the youth academy has done a good job with him," said the coach.

Mbappe’s first goal in five games helps Real Madrid close gap with table toppers Barcelona in La Liga

Ruben Amorim was given a stark illustration of the size of his task at Manchester United after his uninspiring team were held 1-1 by struggling Ipswich in his first match in charge on Sunday. The former Sporting Lisbon boss -- the latest man tasked with restoring the club to the top of English football -- spoke before kick-off about the need to be "patient".

But he had barely settled in his seat at a blustery Portman Road before Marcus Rashford turned in Amad Diallo's inviting cross, stunning the home crowd.

Ipswich, who started the day in the relegation zone, battled back, earning the equaliser they deserved through Omari Hutchinson just before half-time.

Neither side could find a winner in the second period despite chances at both ends, with the result leaving both managers unsatisfied.

United are a lowly 12th in the Premier League, six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, while Ipswich are still in the drop zone.

Amorim, who cut an animated figure on the touchline, said his players were guilty of over-thinking during the game against Kieran McKenna's men.

"I think my players were thinking too much," he told Sky Sports. "We lost some balls without pressure. But they really, really tried and they want this."

He added: "This week I spoke more (to the media) than I did in four years at Sporting. I just want to work with my players. Nothing more."

<h2>'Great again'</h2>

Before kick-off two United fans held up a home-made sign saying: "Good luck Ruben Amorim, Make our team great again."

The Portuguese, who replaced the sacked Erik ten Hag, made three changes from the final line-up named by United's interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy before the international break.

And he changed his formation to play three at the back as widely expected, with England forward Rashford operating as a lone central striker ahead of captain Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho.

United were ahead within two minutes when Diallo surged down the right, shrugging off the attentions of Leif Davis and Jens Cajuste to whip in a cross that Rashford touched home from close range.

Amorim, wearing a black coat and dark trousers, remained impassive in his seat as United's players celebrated in the corner.

Christian Eriksen flashed wide from just outside the box in the seventh minute after more incisive work from Diallo.

But Ipswich responded well, creating openings of their own and looking the more dangerous team as the half wore on.

The home side should have been level in the 40th minute but Andre Onana somehow kept out a close-range effort from Liam Delap with a strong right hand before Cajuste flashed over the bar.

Ipswich got the equaliser they deserved just before half-time when Hutchinson hit a stinging shot that skimmed off the head of Noussair Mazraoui and beyond the diving Onana.

The watching Ed Sheeran, a boyhood Ipswich fan, celebrated wildly in the stands among the 30,000-strong crowd.

Garnacho had a chance to put United back ahead in the opening moments of the second half but Arijanet Muric got down to his left to keep out the shot.

Onana saved well with his foot from a Delap flick from close range before Cajuste produced a perfectly timed challenge at the other end to cut out a Garnacho pass to Rashford after a swift break.

Amorim threw on Luke Shaw and Manuel Ugarte for Jonny Evans and Casemiro about 10 minutes after the restart but United continued to labour against a team with just one Premier League win all season.

He later introduced forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to add fresh legs to his attack.

Fernandes hit a free-kick just wide of the post from a central area and Onana saved from Conor Chaplin at the other end but neither side found the quality to earn the win.

Amorim is United's sixth permanent appointment since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after leading to the team to a 20th English title.

At 39, he is the youngest United boss since Wilf McGuinness followed Matt Busby in 1969.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) purchased ace India spinner and ex-franchise player Ravichandran Ashwin for $1.1mn (INR 9.75 crore) on day one of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming, who was present at the auction table, reflected on Ashwin’s ‘homecoming’, who played for the side for six seasons (2009-2015) before.

To acquire Ashwin’s service, CSK fought hard with Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a four-way bidding war.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, CSK also purchased Afghanistan left-arm unorthodox spinner Noor Ahmed for $1.19mn (INR 10 crore), adding firepower to the spin department with Ravindra Jadeja already retained. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) also chased Noor, but with CSK putting up a 10-crore counteroffer after GT decided to use RTM for him, they backed off, with Chennai winning the race for the T20 specialist.

"It's a bit of a homecoming for Ashwin, but he's a world-class bowler," Fleming said after day one at the IPL 2025 mega auction.&nbsp;

"It's not so much the price - you look at how someone fits in, and there's an emotional attachment for Ashwin with Chennai, so it's a nice fit. He has still got a very good skillset; his numbers are fantastic. He's obviously towards the latter part of his career, but the experience he brings, he's handy with the bat, and we think we can use him in a number of ways.

"The Noor Ahmad pick was looking more at the middle [overs] to attack. So, if we do get turning conditions, then we've got an opportunity to keep taking wickets. We've got [Matheesha] Pathirana at the end, which is the death aspect,” the coach noted.

<h2>Spin to win for CSK</h2>

Emphasizing the importance of picking wickets and how it impacts the game’s result, especially in the shortest format, Fleming said he is content with the players they picked on day one.

"We've just identified that the way the game is going, your bowling has to be really specific, and you have to take wickets to slow teams down. And if you're just trying to contain, then some of the hitting power of players these days will just take the game away from you.&nbsp;

“So, we've tried to be smart with our options given our retained players and add some variation, which maybe we lacked a little bit last year,” the coach continued.

Meanwhile, besides Ashwin, CSK bought several familiar faces in Devon Conway (INR 6.5 crore) and Rachin Ravindra (INR 4 crore), who played for the franchise in the previous edition. The five-time IPL winners also picked up top order batter Rahul Tripathi for INR 3.40 crore.&nbsp;

Chennai has INR 15.60 crore left and 12 slots remaining to fill.&nbsp;

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: CSK coach Stephen Fleming reflects on Ravi Ashwin’s ‘homecoming’

India seamer Mohammed Siraj picked up two big wickets inside the first session on day four to help India inch closer to drawing first blood in the BGT opener in Perth. Siraj first removed opener, Usman Khawaja, caught by Rishabh Pant off a mistimed pull shot and later accounted for Steve Smith caught behind on 17. Travis Head completed his fifty as Australia's scorecard at lunch read 104 for five.

India began day four needing seven wickets to win the first Test at the Optus Stadium, with Siraj, who removed Aussie captain Pat Cummins late on day three, bagged Khawaja's wicket in his first over of the day. Putting Australia on the back foot right away was the Bumrah-led Indian Team's plan, and they delivered accordingly.&nbsp;

The left-handed Head joined Smith in the middle, opting for a cautious approach to steady Australia’s sinking ship. After minimising the new ball threat, Head attacked the opposition, smashing the pacers all across. He completed his fifty soon after, reviving little hopes of an unlikely turnaround for the hosts.

However, when the pair looked like winning Australia’s only session with the bat in this Test, Siraj struck again with a beauty, removing dangerous batter Smith. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh and Head played out the last few overs before lunch to keep wickets in hand, with two sessions remaining in the day.

<h2>What happened in Perth?</h2>

The series opener began outstandingly for the hosts, who wrapped up India’s first innings on 150 inside the first two sessions on day one. However, the Indians made a quick turnaround in the match after dismissing Australia on a paltry 104 in their turn. With a 46-run lead, the visitors made the most of the chance, piling up runs at will.

After a colossal 201-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul for the first wicket, India lost five wickets quickly, with their scorecard reading 321 for five at one stage. In the meantime, Jaiswal notched up his fourth Test hundred, hitting a brilliant 161.&nbsp;

Standing at the other end, Virat Kohli returned to form, scoring his 30th Test hundred, his first in this format since July 2023.&nbsp;

Riding on twin tons and a quick-fire unbeaten 38 off 27 balls by Nitish Reddy, India declared their second innings on 487 for six, giving Australia a daunting target of 534.

The hosts began the chase in the worst possible way, losing three wickets inside five overs, with opener Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne departing on single digits.

World number one Jannik Sinner was described as a "puzzle that not many have solved" after defeating Alex de Minaur to power holders Italy into the Davis Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Australia on Saturday. The two-time winners will face Netherlands in Sunday's showpiece after the Dutch ousted Germany 2-0 on Friday to make the final for the first time in 104 years of trying.

Sinner, who has never lost against De Minaur in nine matches including last year's Davis Cup final, triumphed 6-3, 6-4 in Malaga.

In the first singles rubber Matteo Berrettini earned a 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 7-5 win over Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis in two hours 46 minutes.

"Finals are a huge privilege to be a part of -- Sunday is a final and I'm very happy to be here in this position," said Sinner. "Winning would mean so much for us, not only for the win but because it would mean we defended our title.

"If we don't, it's still an amazing achievement, we showed it was not lucky last year, we're here because we are an amazing team."

Australia, beaten finalists in each of the last two years, are the second most successful team in the tournament's history with 28 titles but last won it in 2003.

Australian Open, US Open and ATP Finals winner Sinner is enjoying a superb year and can cap it with another Davis Cup triumph.

The 23-year-old is still waiting for the outcome of the World Anti-Doping Agency's appeal against his initial exoneration for twice testing positive for traces of the steroid clostebol in March.

However he has not been distracted and despite De Minaur, ranked ninth, battling hard, claimed the first set without much stress.

The players exchanged breaks in the second and third games before Sinner broke decisively for a 4-2 lead with a delicious drop shot, and he served it out.

The Italian worked the first break points of the second set in the ninth game. De Minaur saved two but Sinner converted the third with a passing shot to serve for the match.

Sinner claimed victory when De Minaur returned badly wide and mangled his racquet in sheer frustration.

"He hasn't won a million matches this year for no reason -- it was tough," admitted De Minaur. "It's like trying to solve a puzzle that not a lot of people have managed to solve.

"His ball speed, his consistency, it feels like there's no real let down of focus throughout the whole match."

Tennis: World number one Jannik Sinner powers Italy to Davis Cup final with win over Australia

La Liga leaders Barcelona suffered a dramatic collapse in a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo on Saturday. Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski's goals put the Catalans in a healthy position but Marc Casado's red card in the 82nd minute helped Celta snatch a point. Alfonso Gonzalez capitalised on a Jules Kounde error to pull a goal back before Hugo Alvarez levelled two minutes later.

Barcelona have won 11 league games this season but this became the third they have failed to take three points from without teenage winger Lamine Yamal.

Coach Hansi Flick said he would challenge his side to win without the injured 17-year-old wing wizard and it seemed like they were managing it until their spectacular late crumble.

Barcelona are five points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga, with champions Real Madrid, third, playing on Sunday at Leganes.

"We had the game under control but the red card had a big impact on us and they scored two goals in two moves and we have to learn from that," Barcelona midfielder Gavi told DAZN. "The first goal was so stupid, we have to clear the ball there, but it's football and we have to learn from it, with one man less it's hard."

Gavi made his first start in over a year after recovering from a severe knee injury.

"I'm happy, after a year, but the truth is the important thing was the three points and it wasn't possible," added the 20-year-old.

Flick shifted Raphinha into Yamal's position on the right, using Dani Olmo on the left and Pedri in attacking midfield.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the 15th minute, slotting home neatly to continue his fine form after Kounde lofted a ball forward for him.

Barcelona left-back Gerard Martin was issued an early booking and lived on the edge in the first half, nudging over Iago Aspas as he ran through but just about staying on the right side of the law.

The defender then fouled Aspas before half-time and was lucky to escape a second booking as Celta's captain fumed and was issued a yellow card himself for his outburst.

Flick brought off Martin at the break for Hector Fort, fearing a potential dismissal.

<h2>'Inexplicable'</h2>

Hunting for Barcelona's second, Lewandowski had produced a fine lobbed finish in the first half but the goal was chalked off for offside.

The forward was not to be denied though and just after the hour mark he stroked home Barcelona's second after Raphinha played him in.

It was the 36-year-old striker's 15th league goal of the campaign, further extending his vast lead as La Liga's top scorer.

Inaki Pena made a handful of saves for Barcelona, denying Hugo Alvarez with his leg.

Raphinha could have killed the game off completely but the winger hit the post with a low effort after being sent through.

The Catalans were reduced to 10 men after 82 minutes when recent Spain debutant Casado picked up his second yellow card for fouling former Barca midfielder Ilaix Moriba.

It restored Celta's belief and moments later they pulled one back when Kounde dallied on the ball in his own area and Gonzalez picked his pocket and finished past Pena.

Two minutes later Alvarez levelled for Celta as Barcelona collapsed, cutting in from the right and finishing clinically to snatch a point.

Celta, 11th, have a strong record at Balaidos against Barcelona in recent years and the players celebrated with their fans at the end of the game.

"We found ourselves with that red card and the (first) goal, and then the second came, it's inexplicable," said a delighted Alvarez. "We got the draw, we wanted more -- this team has great quality."

La Liga leaders Barcelona suffer late collapse at Celta Vigo in Lamine Yamal’s absence

Pep Guardiola conceded Manchester City are in uncharted territory after a 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham inflicted a fifth consecutive defeat on the English champions and ended a 52-game unbeaten home run.

James Maddison struck twice in seven first-half minutes before Pedro Porro rubbed salt in the wounds of his former club and Brennan Johnson completed the rout.

City's first defeat on home soil from open play since the eve of the 2022 World Cup leaves them still five points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool, who play their game in hand at bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Sunday.

Guardiola has committed himself to turning around the poorest run of his managerial career after extending his contract until 2027 this week.

But hopes his new deal could revitalise a City side, that have won an unprecedented four consecutive Premier League titles, proved short-lived.

"In eight years we have never lived this kind of situation," said Guardiola, who joined the club in 2016. "Now we have to live it and break it winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently."

Rodri paraded his Ballon d'Or trophy to the home fans before kick-off as his name was lit up across the Etihad pitch by firelight in an ostentatious show of support for the Spanish midfielder.

The 28-year-old is not expected to play again this season after suffering knee ligament damage in September and his absence has been at the heart of City's demise.

Guardiola's men did start strongly as Guglielmo Vicario denied Erling Haaland and the Norwegian had another shot deflected wide.

But the momentum of the match completely swung on Tottenham's first serious attack after 13 minutes.

Dejan Kulusevski's teasing cross picked out Maddison who applied a cool first-time finish.

"In this moment we are fragile defensively," added Guardiola. "We started really well as normal but we could not score and then after that we conceded. After that we conceded some more which is difficult for our emotions right now."

<h2>Spurs inconsistency</h2>

Maddison had been frozen out of Postecoglou's starting line-up in recent weeks and was keen to prove a point to his manager.

Son Heung-min's inventive pass freed the England international inside the box and he dinked the ball over the advancing Ederson to double Spurs' lead.

Inconsistency has been the scourge of Tottenham's season so far.

A 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich before the international break saw Postecoglou's men slip to 10th in the table.

But they have now twice won comprehensively in Manchester after a 3-0 win over United at Old Trafford.

"It is significant because obviously they've got an unbelievable record here at home," said Postecoglou. "We've reached these standards before. It's about now not dropping as we have in certain games."

ALSO READ: Novak Djokovic announces recently retired Andy Murray as new coach Guardiola has committed himself to turning around the poorest run of his managerial career after extending his contract until 2027 this week. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently." Rodri paraded his Ballon d'Or trophy to the home fans before kick-off as his name was lit up across the Etihad pitch by firelight in an ostentatious show of support for the Spanish midfielder. After that we conceded some more which is difficult for our emotions right now." Spurs inconsistency Maddison had been frozen out of Postecoglou's starting line-up in recent weeks and was keen to prove a point to his manager. It's about now not dropping as we have in certain games." Spurs quashed any idea of a comeback seven minutes into the second period. The excellent Kulusevski crossed for Dominic Solanke and he patiently laid the ball back for Porro to blast home from close range. Haaland clipped the bar from an almost impossible angle as City laboured to find a response. Premier League: Spurs end Manchester City’s 52-game unbeaten home run with 4-0 mauling

A woman on Friday won a civil court damages claim against mixed martial arts fighter Conor&nbsp;McGregor&nbsp;over her allegation that he raped her in a Dublin hotel in 2018.

McGregor, 36, shook his head as the jury returned their verdict awarding damages of 248,603 euros ($258,559) to Nikita Hand, who brought the case at Dublin's High Court.

The court was told that&nbsp;McGregor&nbsp;allegedly&nbsp;"brutally raped and battered" Hand in December 2018 but the Irish sports star claimed they had consensual sex.

Speaking after the verdicts Hand, 35, told reporters: "I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be: Speak up, you have a voice and keep on fighting for justice."

She thanked her family including her daughter, Freya.

"She has given me so much strength and courage over the last six years throughout this nightmare to keep on pushing forward for justice," she added.

"I want to show Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you –- no matter who the person is –- and justice will be served."

The standard of proof is lower in a civil case than a criminal one with the jury asked to decide the case on the balance of probabilities rather than beyond reasonable doubt.

Although the jury found in Hand's favour in connection with her accusation against&nbsp;McGregor, she lost an assault lawsuit against a second man.

The court heard evidence over two weeks from witnesses, including Hand, who has no automatic right to anonymity in the case.

Hand added that she had been "overwhelmed and touched by the support" she had received.

"For every person who reached out to me -– a card, a letter, an email, everything –- it hasn't gone unnoticed. Thank you, I really appreciate it so much," she said.

<h2>Appeal</h2>

Irish national broadcaster RTE reported earlier this month that Hand had been "absolutely devastated and let down" after the Director of Public Prosecutions told her that they would not be prosecuting either&nbsp;McGregor&nbsp;or the second man over her allegations.

She sought a review of the DPP's decision, but it was upheld.

Hand suggested that the DPP was not prosecuting because one of the suspects was a famous person, RTE reported.

McGregor&nbsp;is one of the biggest stars in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts circuit, formerly holding the featherweight and lightweight titles.

The DPP's office, however, said the director herself had reviewed the file personally but that the case was very complex and there was no reasonable prospect of a conviction for either man.

In a statement on X,&nbsp;McGregor&nbsp;said he intended to appeal.

"I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future," he said.

"Thank you to all my support worldwide," he added.

McGregor&nbsp;made headlines in November last year when he sent a series of social media posts during unrest in Ireland, criticising the government's immigration policy.

The Dutch knocked out Rafael Nadal's Spain in the last eight on Tuesday on the way to their first final in 104 years of competing.

They then ousted Germany, who last triumphed in 1993 and were hoping to reach a sixth final.

"I'm unbelievably proud, they played so well," said Dutch captain Paul Haarhuis, who was part of the team last time they made the semi-finals 23 years ago.

Van de Zandschulp kicked off the tie by claiming a scrappy victory with his 10th match point in two hours 44 minutes.

"It could have been easier but I did it the hard way," said the Dutchman who sent 22-time Grand Slam title winner Nadal into retirement on Tuesday with a famous win. "At some point, I didn't know what to do any more on the match points."

Neither player blinked in a first set with few thrills, until the Dutchman, ranked 80th, nosed ahead for a 5-4 lead which he served out, clinching when Altmaier went wide.

Van de Zandschulp broke in the fifth game of the second set and consolidated for a 4-2 lead, taking full control of the match.

The Dutchman forced four break points in the next game, but the world number 88 managed to escape with three aces to avoid a double break.

Moving into a higher gear the German was able to get back on serve at 4-4, converting his third break point at the end of the match's longest rally when Van de Zandschulp failed at the net.

The Dutch player brought up five match points in the tie-break but could not hold his nerve and Altmaier took his fourth set point with a smash to force a third set.

Van de Zandschulp broke in the second game, but Altmaier immediately responded.

The Dutchman produced another break of serve to open up a 5-3 lead and, after wasting four more match points, wrapped up the win with his 10th as Altmaier could not return a powerful serve.

"I had the toughest match of my life on Tuesday (against Nadal), so everything that comes next is a little bit easier," added Van de Zandschulp.

Riding on twin tons, India hammered 283 for one, winning the game by 135 runs to take the series home 3-1.

A second-half Harry Kane hat-trick took Bayern Munich to a 3-0 home win over Augsburg on Friday, sending them eight clear atop the table ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern, still yet to lose in the league in 2024-25, were dominant throughout but kept at bay by some dogged defending from their Bavarian neighbours.

With 61 minutes gone, the ball connected with Augsburg's Mads Pedersen's outstretched arm in the box, bringing the England captain to the spot after a VAR review.

Kane cooly converted to give Bayern the lead.

In stoppage time, Kane went down in the box after contact from Keven Schlotterbeck and Bayern were again awarded a penalty after a VAR review, which the 31-year-old converted.

Schlotterbeck was sent from the field after picking up a second yellow for his challenge.

Kane then added a third, this time controlling a cross and heading in, his seventh hat-trick since joining Bayern.

"We knew it would be difficult to break them down. We knew we had to be patient," Kane told DAZN. "At halftime that's what we said, 'we just have to keep doing what we're doing'. Thankfully we got the penalty to open the game up and then did well to kill the game off."

The England captain now has 14 goals in 11 league games for Bayern this season, five of which have come from the spot.

"I work on them a lot. They're a big part of the game. They helped us again today.

"Of course I've missed many at training, but that's the time to miss them," Kane laughed.

<h2>Neuer boost</h2>

Leipzig can cut the gap back to five when they play at struggling Hoffenheim on Saturday, while defending champions Bayer Leverkusen host Heidenheim.

The German giants received a boost pre-match, with captain and veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer cleared to start after missing training with a rib issue. &nbsp;Bayern were in control of possession and field position but could not break through.

Augsburg offered little in attack but defended stoutly, holding Bayern's glittering attacking riches at bay.

Augsburg goalie Nediljko Labrovic held firm to snuff out first-half chances from Jamal Musiaia and Leon Goretzka.

The Bavarian giants, still smarting after going trophyless for the first time in 11 seasons last campaign, eventually broke through with half an hour remaining, breaking Augsburg's resolve.

Riding high in the league, Bayern have struggled in the Champions League format, sitting 17th after four games -- six behind leaders Liverpool.

Tuesday's home match with PSG, who are even further down the Champions League table, could be crucial for the German side in their top-eight bid to avoid the extra playoff round.

Kane backed his team to get through a tough phase, which includes a trip to Borussia Dortmund and a home German Cup clash with holders Bayer Leverkusen.

"Big week ahead of us but the team is feeling good, we just have to keep going with this momentum," added Kane.

Nations League Draw: Spain to face Netherlands, Germany pitted against Italy in quarters

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said Friday he would ask his players if they can win without injured teenage winger Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old will miss the visit to face Celta Vigo on Saturday in La Liga with an ankle problem.

Table-toppers Barcelona have failed to win the two matches he has not started this season.

Yamal was on the bench as Barcelona were beaten 4-2 by Osasuna in September and missed the 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad before the international break.

The Catalan giants have won the other 11 league matches they have played during a fine start to the campaign under the German coach.

Asked if his team could win without Spain star Yamal, who has become a vital part of Barcelona's attack, Flick said he would put that question to the squad.

"I will ask the team this tomorrow, I think it's a good question for them," he told a news conference. "Lamine is for us very important but we also have to adapt to this -- we have players who can play (instead of) him...

"Lamine cannot play tomorrow, we'll see when he's back. It's important for us that he will (return at) 100 percent."

Flick would not be drawn on a potential replacement for Yamal, after using Fermin Lopez on the right flank to limited effect at Real Sociedad.

"It could be Raphinha, it could be Dani (Olmo), Fermin, Pablo (Torre) or Pau (Victor), we have different options," added the coach.

Flick also said Gavi was fit enough to start after a long-term injury and a handful of substitute appearances on his way back to fitness.

The coach was also happy with former Barcelona great Lionel Messi's recent praise for his side.

Inter Miami forward Messi, Barcelona's best ever player, said he felt "great pride" at the club's performances this season and that the current side was "spectacular".

"It's an honour that the best player here from Barca in history, he says this, and he follows the team, how it's playing and also how the young players are doing," said Flick. "He's always (got) his whole heart with this club and it means a lot for us and the whole team."

Golf: Australian PGA Championship reduced to 54 holes after washout

Pep Guardiola said on Friday he would remain at Manchester City even if the club were to face relegation from the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial rules.

Guardiola, who has won six Premier League titles in the past seven years with City, signed a two-year contract extension on Thursday, committing him to the English champions till 2027.

A hearing into the Premier League's 115 charges against City has been ongoing for several weeks, with a verdict expected before the end of the season.

The club have strongly denied any financial wrongdoing, but could face a severe points penalty if found guilty of some or all the charges.

"I said that six months ago, one year ago when all the clubs accuse us of doing something wrong. If we get relegated, I will be here," Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham's visit on Saturday. "If they send us to the Conference (fifth tier) we will come up and up and come back to the Premier League. I knew it then and I feel it now."

Guardiola's decision to extend his deal is also a boost during a rare period of on-field turmoil.

For the first time in the Spaniard's managerial career, his team have lost four consecutive matches.

But the 53-year-old hit back at City's critics, pointing to their success in becoming the first side to ever win four English top-flight titles in a row.

"When you are here for nine years, with a long time at one club, you live all the scenarios, all the situations," added Guardiola. "You're able to lose four games in a row, but at the same time you're able to win four Premier Leagues in a row.

"The difference is that most of the teams are able to lose four games in a row in different competitions but just one team won four Premier Leagues in a row."

City's poor run began with a League Cup exit to Tottenham before Premier League defeats to Bournemouth and Brighton either side of a 4-1 loss at Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

All four losses came on the road and Guardiola is hoping for some home comforts when City return to the Etihad Stadium, where they have not been beaten in open play in two years.

"We have to start to win games, we know it," he added. "We are coming back at home, hopefully we can perform well and start to take our rhythm."

It was another successful Olympic year for Kenyan athletes in 2024 after they clinched not less than 11 medals at the Paris Games. As the nation continues to grow in athletics, the foundation of its success was led by Patrick Sang, who won a silver medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the 3000m steeplechase. The Kenyan great was recently back in the headlines when US sports writer Sarah Gearhart opened up about Sang’s life in her book 'We Share The Sun'.

WION exclusively spoke to Sarah about her experience working with Sang, who mentors some of the game's greats. Currently, Sang is working with Eliud Kipchoge, the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon champion who broke the marathon world record in 2018 and 2022.

Question: What inspired you to choose Patrick Sang?

Answer: There are so many coaches that I could have chosen to pursue a story like this, but as I said before, he was just really mysterious to me and I just wanted to know more. I think intuitively, as a writer, you kind of get this sense that there's something more here. I don't quite know what it is, but I know that I need to figure it out and understand

Question: You have been to Kenya watching a different country, how was the experience and how do people pursue sports there?

Answer: It was just drastically different from the way that the Western world lives. I mean you're kind of stripped down from all what we consider the comforts of our lives. And while I was based in Eaton and there were issues, I know the local runners had issues with water and sometimes they didn't have enough to eat and that is the reality and it's hard to see but they find a way to keep going and I found that really inspiring.

Question: A nation struggling with facilities, how Kenya has been different for international athletes?

Answer: I was surprised by the amount of elite European athletes that came to train. I didn't really encounter many Americans during my four trips to Kenya but I will say that Eaton continues to evolve and develop as a training base for international athletes which I was actually quite surprised by. There's something that athletes really gravitate toward. It's a purity that you can't really replicate anywhere else in the world from what I've experienced. And I think that's what makes it really unique.

India captain Jasprit Bumrah compensated for Virat Kohli’s horror show in the slips, picking three early wickets in Australia's first innings on day one of the Perth Test.&nbsp;

Virat dropped Australia number three Marnus Labuschagne on a sitter on a second-ball duck early in the innings. After Bumrah dismissed debutant Nathan McSweeney trapped in front of the wicket on 10, he bowled a peach of a delivery to Marnus, who edged it only for Kohli to drop him in the second slip.&nbsp;

Earlier, Virat got out on five to Josh Hazlewood.

Bumrah was on song from ball one in the second innings, trying to make up for the batting order failure in the first Test, with India getting all out on 150 after electing to bat first. After bowling an excellent first over, Bumrah returned to haunt the Aussies, picking McSweeney LBW.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Australia could be two down inside the third over had Kohli picked Marnus on a duck. The India gun fielder dropped a simple catch, and while others began celebrating, including Bumrah, Kohli immediately informed everyone of the blunder, signalling he dropped it.

<h2>Bumrah dismisses Khawaja, Smith</h2>

Khawaja was perhaps the only batter in this lineup to never get out to Bumrah; in seven outings against each other, having bowled 155 deliveries before the start of this game, the India ace seamer never picked Khawaja’s wicket. That stat, however, went in the drain, as Bumrah first dismissed the veteran leftie, edged to the slip cordon before picking the big fish Steve Smith plumbed on a first-ball duck.

Taylor Fritz beat Australia's Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 to pull the United States level at 1-1 in the Davis Cup quarter-finals and force a doubles decider. In the first singles rubber Thanasi Kokkinakis edged Ben Shelton 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (16/14) to put Australia ahead against the record 32-time Davis Cup winners.

Australia, who have triumphed 28 times, second only to the USA, last won the tournament in 2003 but finished as runners-up in the last two editions.

With Fritz leading the charge for a strong US squad, the Americans are hoping for a first victory since 2007 and he breezed past De Minaur in 71 minutes.

Kokkinakis emerged triumphant in the opener after a gripping tie-break, saving four match points and spurning six of his own before eventually prevailing when Shelton went long.

"I don't know if I've been that pumped up in my life, I wanted that one bad, I wanted to help my team," said the Australian. "(The tie-break) was tough, we were both serving well, I think I only got tight on one shot... he was serving incredibly, I can't even speak, I'm happy.

"It's a massive win for me...Lleyton (Hewitt, Australia's captain) showed faith in me, anyone could have played but I just wanted to give it my all."

Shelton, on his Davis Cup debut and chosen ahead of Tommy Paul by captain Bob Bryan, showed nerves in the first set and Kokkinakis took full advantage.

After Shelton held in the first game, the Australian won the next six straight to rapidly mop up the first set.

The American, ranked 21st, 56 places above his opponent, hit back strongly in the second as he came out with far more panache and immediately secured a break.

Shelton, 22, saved four break points for a hold to make it 4-2, utilising his huge serve, and served it out, sealing the set with an ace to force a third.

Neither was able to force their way ahead and a nerve-wracking and lengthy tie-break ensued with Kokkinakis eventually snatching victory.

The tie-break was the joint sixth-longest in Davis Cup history.

<h2>Fritz in fine fettle</h2>

World number four Fritz, who finished as runner-up in the ATP Finals last week and reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open in September in a superb season for him, was too strong for De Minaur to handle.

Fritz broke in the second game and consolidated for a 3-0 lead which he served out in a clinical first set victory.

De Minaur, a late addition to Australia's squad after overcoming a hip problem, helped his country reach the previous two finals and won 15 of his previous 22 Davis Cup singles matches.

The Australian, ranked ninth, broke in the second game but Fritz immediately responded and then held comfortably to level at 2-2.

De Minaur saved three break points to hold for a 4-3 lead but the relentless Fritz took the final three to win.

"We would hate to just go two matches and be out of here, so there was a lot riding on that one, a lot of pressure for both of us... I'm just really happy how I held it together," said Fritz. "(Winning the Davis Cup) would be the perfect ending (to the year), it would be amazing."

Later Thursday Jannik Sinner's Italy, the defending champions, face Argentina in the last quarter-final clash, with the winner facing Australia or the US.

The Netherlands, who defeated Rafael Nadal's Spain on Tuesday, battle Germany in the first semi-final on Friday.

"It's a massive win for me...Lleyton (Hewitt, Australia's captain) showed faith in me, anyone could have played but I just wanted to give it my all." Shelton, on his Davis Cup debut and chosen ahead of Tommy Paul by captain Bob Bryan, showed nerves in the first set and Kokkinakis took full advantage. Davis Cup 2024: Taylor Fritz pulls USA level with Australia in quarters

Former Australia captain and Test great Ricky Ponting feels Rohit Sharma’s return to the Indian side could potentially disrupt the Indian camp, echoing Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks on why India should have just one captain throughout the series. Rohit remained unavailable for the Perth Test for personal reasons, with the BCCI naming ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah the captain for the BGT opener at the Optus Stadium.

Rohit, however, has informed the Indian Cricket Board about his travel schedule, with a report in Cricbuzz claiming that the Indian skipper will link up with the squad in Perth during the first Test on November 24 (Sunday). He will be available for selection for the second game in Adelaide, a Day/Night Test, starting December 6, and will play the pink-ball warm-up tie in Canberra in the leadup to the second game.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, following Gavaskar’s comments on why Bumrah should lead India in all matches regardless of Rohit’s travel stance and availability status for all games, which irked plenty of fans, including Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, who gave a telling reaction to the India great, uttered same sentiments, saying his addition to the side and in the leadership group will cause some confusion among the group.

Ponting said the players knew about Rohit’s stance before and that Bumrah would lead India in Perth, adding, “I just think there’s potential for more disruption through their campaign with Sharma coming back and whatever else. So I’ll stick with it (3-1 verdict in favour of Australia).”&nbsp;

“India will be pretty certain of what team they’re going to play (in Perth). They’ve known for a while that Rohit probably wasn’t going to be here. They’ve probably known for a while that Bumrah was going to be captain. So they’ve probably known what holes they’ve needed to fill. So they’ll be reasonably settled,” Ponting said on The ICC Review ahead of the first Test in Perth starting Friday (Nov 22).

<h2>Gavaskar’s remarks</h2>

During a chat with Sports Tak earlier, Gavaskar explained why India must have just captain throughout the marquee series.

“Captain should play the opening Test. It would have been different had he been injured. But if a captain is not available right in the first Test match of the series, then it would put a lot of pressure on the deputy leader and that is not easy.

“There should be clarity because we lost 0-3 against New Zealand, so the captain has to be there. Indian cricket is the most important thing. Had India won the New Zealand series 3-0, it would have been a different case.” Gavaskar said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, India could play two debutants in Perth, with several reports suggesting that Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are likely to play the series opener.&nbsp;

‘Rohit’s return to cause ‘disruption’ in Indian camp’ – Ponting echoes Gavaskar’s remarks on BGT captaincy

Chelsea captain Reece James has suffered a new injury setback after being ruled out of Saturday's clash against Leicester with a hamstring problem.

James only returned to action in October after missing the start of the season.

But Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca revealed on Thursday that the 24-year-old England right-back will not be available for the trip to the King Power Stadium in the Premier League this weekend.

Maresca hopes the problem won't keep James out for too long, but given the Chelsea captain's recent history of injury woes, the Italian is not willing to take any risks.

"Reece, unfortunately, felt something small and we don't want to take any risks this weekend," Maresca told reporters. "Hopefully it's not something longer. He felt something, he has to be out and then we'll see. It's his hamstring, a muscle problem."

James has struggled to stay fit for much of the last two seasons, but Maresca is still confident he can eventually shake off his injury-plagued reputation.

"For sure," he added. "But in this moment it is not happening."

Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill pulled out of England duty over the international break due to fitness concerns, while Maresca also has doubts over Romeo Lavia, Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana and Jadon Sancho.

"Some of them are better, some of them we'll test today," he said of Chelsea's walking wounded.

England captain Harry Kane criticised the nine players who opted out of England duty, insisting playing for the Three Lions should come before anything else.

There were suggestions that managers had persuaded their England players to stay away to avoid injuries at a busy time of the season.

But, asked if he had any contact with the England camp over the withdrawals of Palmer and Colwill, Maresca said: "To be honest we played Arsenal and then I left for a week."

Maresca will be making his first trip back to Leicester since guiding the Foxes to promotion from the Championship last season, before quitting to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

It will be an emotional occasion for Maresca, who said: "First of all I'm excited and also thankful.

"It was a fantastic season because I met good people and in terms of players it was fantastic.

"We had a fantastic connection between the players and staff, this is something you need to create when you want to make something important.

"I will be thankful to them all my life, we have a special connection."

Chelsea captain Reece James out with fresh injury, confirms coach Enzo Maresca

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is not ready to discount the visiting team’s chances of pulling off a win against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting Friday (Nov. 22). Having done it not once but twice in the past two outings, Ganguly knows what the Indian Team can do when the chips are down.

Unlike the last time, when India was without their star players in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah, by&nbsp;the time of the fourth Test, three of the four will likely feature in the BGT opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth this time; with Rohit missing the first game for personal reasons, and ace seamer Bumrah captaining India in his absence.

Chatting with former cricket greats England’s Michael Vaughan and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Ganguly, while replying to their predictions of Australia steamrolling India in BGT 2024-2025, said he would not predict the result, believing India can shock the world by beginning the series on a high despite the generic conscious backing Australia to break the walls.

"Let's see. I don't rule India out. When they went in 2021, we got all out for 36 in Adelaide. We had lost [Virat] Kohli, and by the time we went to Brisbane, there wtthat as no Kohli, no Rohit Sharma, no Jasprit Bumrah, no Ravichandran Ashwin, and these guys came back and beat a top-notch Australian side. There's tremendous talent in India," Ganguly replied to Vaughan and Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

Ganguly reminded the two hosts of what the Indian bench strength pulled off the last time, adding that&nbsp;none had backed stars-less India to win in Brisbane, chasing 330 plus on day five.&nbsp;

"I wouldn't predict the series yet because, to be honest, because the last two tours, we beat them both the times. Did anybody think on Day 5 in Brisbane, when India had to get 330, Rishabh Pant played that knock and won them the match? Not just Pant but Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur as well. Shubman Gill contributed for India to win,” the former captain continued.

<h2>‘1-1 after Adelaide game’&nbsp;</h2>

Having surrendered two BGTs at home previously, Australia would be raring to go against the second-ranked Indian Team this time. The hosts, however, planned a tougher schedule this time, with the Optus Stadium in Perth hosting the opener, Adelaide (venue for the second Test) the Day/Night clash and Gabba in Brisbane for the third game before the action moves to Melbourne and Sydney.

Despite the odds against them, Ganguly feels this Indian team can win one of the first two matches, setting up a cracker of a series.

"It might well be that by the time the Adelaide Test finishes, it's 1-1, and then you go to Melbourne and Brisbane and Sydney, and the series gets decided. If you look at the 2018 series, it rained in Sydney, and India were on the verge of winning that Test as well. We could have won that series 3-1.&nbsp;

“These are some fearless players. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I think it's going to be a fascinating series. Weather permitting, all five Test matches will have a decision, and it can go any way," Ganguly concluded.&nbsp;

BGT: Ganguly not ready to discount India despite Aussie wave; reminds Vaughan, Gilchrist of 2020/21 results

The Indian captain for the Perth Test against Australia, Jasprit Bumrah, dropped a major hint at Mohammed Shami’s potential return to the Test side amid fitness concerns.&nbsp;

Shami missed all on-field action since last year's home World Cup due to an ankle injury and resumed competitive cricket last week, playing for Bengal in the prestigious Ranji Trophy tournament, picking seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh. Though he showed glimpses of a full-fit Shami by bowling tight lines during his comeback game, the right-arm seamer is closing in on returning to his best, with the Indian Team management keeping a keen eye on it.&nbsp;

Speaking on the same on the sidelines of the first BGT Test at the Optus Stadium starting Friday (Nov 22), India skipper Bumrah said,&nbsp;"Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team. I'm sure the management is also keeping a keen eye (on him). Hopefully, things fall in place. If everything goes well, you might see him here as well," Bumrah noted in the pre-match presser in Perth.

Meanwhile, Bumrah is leading India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, who is in India with his family after the birth of his second child. Rohit will link up with the Indian Team ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, a Day-Night Test game, starting December 6.

Per several reports, the BCCI and the management are keen on having Shami on board at some point during this marquee five-match series, concluding with the final Test at the SCG in Sydney early next year. Should Shami attain full fitness in the meantime, he would likely get added to the Test side, increasing his chances of playing his first away BGT game since breaking his wrist in Adelaide the last time.

<h2>Rana, Ashwin to play in Perth</h2>

Owing to an injury crisis and unavailability of some star players, the visitors could play a new-look Indian Team in the BGT opener, with several reports claiming two uncapped players to make the cut. While all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is one name everyone’s praising, the sources close to the information claim that lanky pacer Harshit Rana could also make his Test debut.

Besides, ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s highest wicket-taker in this attack, will play ahead of two bowling all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.&nbsp;

Also, in the absence of Shubman Gill, who is out with a broken thumb, India will likely play Devdutt Padikkal at number three, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to open. Outside of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the middle order, India might play Dhruv Jurel ahead of Sarfaraz Khan at number six; simultaneously, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj spearhead the pace attack.
