An activist group named Just Stop Oil created a ruckus at the National Gallery in London by throwing tomato soup at Vincent Van Gogh’s priceless painting ‘Sunflowers'.
Monet painting attacked in Germany
In October 2022, members of a climate activist group named Last Generation glued themselves underneath the painting "Les Meules" by French artist Claude Monet after pouring mashed potatoes on the artwork at the Barberini Museum in Postdam, Germany.
'Girl with a Pearl Earring' painting targeted by climate activists
Two Belgian climate change activists targetted the world-famous painting 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' at a museum in The Hague, Netherlands.
Botecelli painting attacked by climate activists in Italy
Environmental protesters glued themselves to the glass protecting Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera at an art gallery in Florence, Italy. The activists were from the climate activist group called Ultima Generazione (Last Generation) who said that the protest was the first in “a new season of actions” targeting museums.
Francisco Goya paintings targeted in Spain
Two activists of a climate group named Extinction Rebellion glued their hands to the frames of the two paintings by the famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya at the Prado Museum in Spain. They also scrawled '+1.5ºC' on the wall which was a reference to the Paris agreement of capping warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The paintings were not damaged, and the graffiti was painted over immediately.
