<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-BJP appeared set for a resounding comeback on Thursday with leads over 300 seats while the Congress trailed far behind with 90, as the counting of the votes polled in India's 17 Lok Sabha election was underway.</p>

<p>"I accept people's decision but this is also a fact that people had their doubts about EVMs. Congress had performed really well in Rajiv Gandhi's time, but nobody doubted elections then, same when Atal Bihari Vajpayee won", he said.</p>

<p>National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, expressed hope that the new government at the Centre would do justice with the state and engage in a dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters at the NC headquarters, Farooq Abdullah said, "I thank (NC vice-president) Omar (Abdullah), our party leaders and the people of Kashmir, especially the people of Srinagar constituency - all the mothers, sisters, elders and youth for supporting the NC".</p>

<p>"This Parliament will not be easy. There are several important issues with respect to J-K because we have to fight them on their intention to do away with the Article 370 and 35A. Another issue is that they want to divide the Muslims and Hindus in the country; we have to fight that as well," the NC chief said.</p>

<p>"This country belongs to all and we have to keep this country strongly on that secular path which our Constitution enshrines. We have to protect the Constitution, drafted by (B R) Ambedkar, and take the country forward," he said.</p>

<p>"We hope the new government in Delhi will do justice with J-K and engage in dialogue with Pakistan so that we are taken out of this morass," he said.<br />

<p>However, the movement in the broader markets was tipid. The S&amp;P BSE Mid-Caps was up 0.76 per cent while the small caps were 0.46 per cent up.</p>

<p>"Broader market health is improving but we are seeing lack of momentum and hence expecting consolidation in the near term," said Sahaj Agrawal, Head of Derivatives, Kotak Securities.</p>

<p>Proving exit polls right, the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appeared set to retain power as its candidates alone led in 294 of the 541 Lok Sabha seats with its allies faring equally well across the country, stunning the opposition.</p>

TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy are leading over the respective rival candidates. Naidu initially trailed by 67 votes but bounced back to secure a lead over his nearest YSRC rival. The results came as a huge shock to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who was not only confident of retaining power in the state but was hoping to play the role of kingmaker at the Centre. In 2014, the TDP had bagged 102 seats while its then ally BJP had won four seats. The YSRCP had won 67 seats while two independents were also elected. In the Lok Sabha elections held simultaneously, the TDP had won 15 and the BJP two seats. The YSRCP bagged the remaining eight seats.

<p>Union Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-general-elections-2019/lok-sabha-election-result-2019-bjp-leaders-react-to-landslide-win-of-pm-narendra-modi-220885">BJP will perform better in 2019 Lok Sabha elections</a> in comparison to 2014 polls.</p>

<p>"I have repeatedly said that 2019 results will be better than 2014. Now as you are seeing trends, I am leading. You have also seen exit polls. People are appreciating that Narendra Modi-government served people honestly," Harsh Vardhan told ANI.</p>

<p>The Union Minister is seeking re-election from Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency in Delhi where he is leading by a margin of over 14,000 votes.</p>

<p>He is pitted against Congress heavyweight and former union minister Jai Prakash Agarwal from Chandhi Chowk.</p>

<p>When asked to comment on Congress president Rahul Gandhi trailing in Amethi, Harsh Vardhan said, "In 1977, I had campaigned in Rae Bareli and Amethi. I have seen people defeating Late Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. That's why I am not surprised if I get to see the same result in Rae Bareli and Amethi in this election there."</p>

<p>The Union Minister said that Congress' negative politics would lead to their defeat in the ongoing elections.</p>

<p>"Congress who worked for independence is now indulged in negative politics. They do not have any program. Congress is a synonym of corruption. Ten years of UPA rule was famous for scams," he said.</p>

<p>As the entire nation awaits results of the general elections 2019 and with trends hinting at Bharatiya Janata Party coming back to power for a second term with a major lead, actor Vivek Oberoi spoke to WION about his film ‘PM Narendra Modi’, a biopic on the Indian prime minister that is slated to release tomorrow on May 24.</p>

<p>Visibly happy at the trends so far, Vivek spoke of the work put in to make the film that had him researching for the role, understanding the temperament of the most powerful Indian at the moment and following Modi’s politics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vivek said, “They can’t stop me or Modi Ji. Tomorrow when people will celebrate Modiji’s victory, our film will release and they will know his story.”</p>

<p>On why he chose to work on the film, Vivek said, “I think it’s an incredible journey. Let's take a time machine and travel to the 1950’s- 60’s Vadnagar station where a kid serves tea in clay cups. Can you imagine meeting this kid and saying that he will become the prime minister?”</p>

<p>He further said, “It was fascinating for me, I have seen his journey from Gujarat chief minister to the prime minister. I have believed in his politics. I connect him on a political level. Before starting on the film when I researched his life, I met his neighbours, I found out that his mother who loved him a lot had to wash other people’s utensils. Coming from that, Modiji still never chased money. Dhandho should have been in his blood but still, he never chased money. Philanthropy is done on a full stomach bere was a man who came from nothing and yet always gave everything to the nation. I wish that our film inspires people to see that.”&nbsp;</p>

The final result of the mega electoral exercise to elect the world's largest democracy will be announced on Thursday. Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will begin at 8 am tomorrow and the clear picture of who will lead the nation for the next five years will emerge in the evening. 

More than 8,000 candidates were in the fray for 542 seats across the nation. 67.11 per cent of the 90.99 crore electors had cast their vote in the seven-phase elections.
