They are expected to reach the island of Ua Huka, Nuku Hiva, and Hiva Oa from Tuesday to Wednesday.

NWS: Tsunami has reached the California coast, and is showing up in the Arena Cove, CA tide gauge and is making its way down the coast right now.

A tsunami wave of 5.7ft (1.74m) high has been recorded at Kahului, Maui, while one of 4.9ft (1.5m) was recorded in Hailo, Hawaii.

Four-foot-high tsunami waves triggered by the massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia have struck Hawaii as authorities urge residents to take urgent action to protect lives and property. According to the US Tsunami Warning Center, three-meter high waves are possible in Hawaii and Russia, following the quake. The highest level alert has been issued for the entire state. Tsunami alerts have also been issued for California and Alaska.

“People should not, and I will say it one more time, should not, as we have seen in the past, stay around the shoreline or risk their lives just to see what a tsunami looks like,” Governor Josh Green said. “It is not a regular wave. It will actually kill you if you get hit by a tsunami.”

The height of tsunami waves in the Russian Pacific town of Severo-Kurilsk exceeded three metres, and the most powerful was as big as five metres, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported on Wednesday, citing emergency services.

Local residents of Japan's Hokkaido evacuate to higher ground after one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck Russia's sparsely populated Far East early Wednesday, causing tsunamis up to four metres (12 feet) across the Pacific and sparking evacuations from Hawaii to Japan. In Japan, nearly two million people were advised to evacuate, and many left by car or on foot.

A wave of 4ft (1.2m) has hit Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. Some 12 minutes were recorded in between the waves.

Josh Green, governor of Hawaii, said the island state was yet to see a “wave of consequence”.“We still have not seen any wave activity come past the Big Island. That’s important. Until we see what happens on the Big Island, we won’t feel we’re in a position to start saying that we’re in the clear,” he says.

As per reports, on Wednesday, after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake, at least six aftershocks further rattled the Russian Far East, including one of 6.9 magnitude and another listed at 6.3.

Wednesday's quake was the strongest since 1952 in the Kamchatka region, the regional seismic monitoring service said, warning of aftershocks of up to 7.5 magnitude.
 

Mexico mobilised authorities at all levels of government to keep its population away from Pacific beaches due to a tsunami warning Tuesday, after a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Russia.

The Mexican Navy warned that strong currents are expected at port entrances from Baja California in the northwest to Chiapas in the south of Mexico.

The mayor of Russia's northern Kuril Islands district said that "everyone" there had evacuated to safety following a tsunami which caused flooding and swept away buildings.

"Everyone was evacuated. There was enough time, a whole hour. So everyone was evacuated; all the people are in the tsunami safety zone," Mayor Alexander Ovsyannikov said at a crisis meeting with officials.

Russia suffered a massive 8.7 earthquake on Tuesday (Jul 29), which has left people shaken and has triggered tsunami warnings in the nation, along with Japan, and the United States. Terrifying visuals on social media not only show buildings shaking but also the first tsunami waves hitting the Russian coast along Severo-Kurilsk. Russia's emergency ministry, in a statement, confirmed that on the nation's far east coast, a port town has been flooded by tsunami waters. The epicentre of this strong quake, as per the United States Geological Survey (USGS) was located 133 km southeast of Petropavlovsk‑Kamchatsky in Russia, at a depth of 74 km.

Just hours after a massive 8.7 magnitude earthquake hit Russia on Tuesday (Jul 29), triggering tsunami warnings in the nation and neighbouring areas of Japan and the United States, the first tsunami waves have been spotted in Japan, reports Japan Broadcasting Corporation NHK. As per the report, the waves measured around 30 centimetres (1 foot). As per the report, the wave hit the main northern island of Hokkaido.

Russia's 8.7 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday (Jul 30) triggered an emergency evacuation at the Fukushima nuclear plant in northeast Japan. As per reports, all workers of the stricken nuclear plant were evacuated to avoid a 2011-style meltdown of the facility. "We have evacuated all workers and employees" at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, a spokeswoman for plant operator TEPCO told news agencies, adding that no "abnormality" had been observed.

The Indian Tsunami Warning Advisory Service said that there is no tsunami threat to India and the Indian Ocean in connection with the Russian earthquake. India's Consulate General in San Francisco and Seattle asked Indian nationals in California, other US West Coast states to follow local alerts and move to higher ground if a tsunami alert is issued. It also asked its citizens to avoid coastal areas.

However, there is another tsunami that has taken over social media, of fake videos and photos. People are sharing images and footage of previous earthquakes and tsunamis, wrongly stating that they are from Wednesday's earthquake. One video in particular that has gone viral shows a woman sitting inside a shop when a massive earthquake jolts everything, triggering the cabinets and everything around her to fall down.

Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula witnessed a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, (July 29), which triggered tsunami warnings from Japan and the US Tsunami Warning Centre. Russia's geophysical service said that earthquake off Kamchatka was the strongest since 1952. The epicentre was located about 136 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, at a depth of 19 kilometres beneath the seabed.
