<p>A stampede-like situation ensued outside Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on Thursday, where people had gathered to pay their last respects to Ratan Tata, who passed away late Wednesday at the Breach Candy Hospital. Due to the growing crowd, the Mumbai Police had to conduct a lathi charge to manage the situation.</p>

<p>Ratan Tata’s mortal remains were taken from the NCPA to Worli for his final rites. His body was kept at the NCPA in South Mumbai for public viewing from 10:30 am to 3:55 pm.</p>

<p>The Mumbai Police gave him a ceremonial guard of honour at the Parsi crematorium, where the last rites were performed. His coffin, wrapped in the Indian flag, was escorted by a guard of honour, accompanied by a marching band playing trumpets and drums during the procession.</p>

<p>Several dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, joined the procession, escorting the hearse to the Parsi crematorium in Worli. They were accompanied by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, and other prominent leaders for the final ceremony.</p>

<p>After the SP named its candidates for the Karhal (Mainpuri), Sisamau (Kanpur city), Milkipur (Ayodhya), Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Phulpur (Prayagraj) and Majhwan (Mirzapur) constituencies, party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary had said any seat sharing arrangement with the Congress will be decided by party chief Akhilesh Yadav.</p>

<p>The Congress was demanding Phulpur and Majhwan seats besides Ghaziabad, Khair (Aligarh) and Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar).</p>

The news of his health deteriorating had been doing the rounds for a few days. He was admitted to the intensive care of the Breach Candy&nbsp;Hospital in Mumbai early in the evening before the legend passed away.</p>

<p>N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Group, said in a statement, "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation."</p>

<p>The Kerala Assembly on Thursday (Oct 10) passed a resolution, opposing the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal in a significant pushback against the central government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The resolution was moved by the southern Indian state's parliamentary affairs minister, MB Rajesh&nbsp;on behalf of Chief Minister Pinarayi&nbsp;Vijayan, who was absent due to health reasons.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It is anti-democratic to treat elections for Parliament, state assemblies, and local self-government bodies merely as an expense. This is an attempt to erode India’s rich cultural, social, and political diversity,” said Rajesh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Destroying the federal system enshrined in the Constitution is tantamount to denying the rights of state and local governments, and it also challenges the fundamental rights of the people,” he added.</p>

<p>The support for the motion was unanimous as the opposition, led by&nbsp;Mannarkad MLA N Samsudheen, granted his full support.&nbsp;Samsudheen said the proposal impacted the country's federal structure, adding that it was a threat to state governance and democratic processes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the passing of the resolution, Kerala has become the first state to oppose the move. Apart from Kerala, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin - both part of the INDIA bloc, have voiced concerns against the proposal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Left party CPI(M) has been backing the protests, and claims that the Tamil Nadu government has been behaving in an anarchist manner by arresting the Samsung workers near the protest site. This week, the Madras High Court had stated that there is no ban on workers protesting. On Wednesday, the police arrested some of the leaders backing the protest and also dismantled the makeshift tent put up by the protesters. Over the last one month, the protesters and their backers from the Left-affiliated CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) had been camping at a makeshift tent erected a short walk away from the Samsung facility in Sriperumbudur, an industrial hub near Chennai city.</p>

<p>"And when it came to making changes, they all woke up and ensured that no change took place," he said with giggles. His&nbsp;first few years as Tata Group chairman were spent on how to "graciously ease them out of the company," he added.</p>

<p>Simi asked what stopped him from getting married, Tata listed various reasons for it, including timing and his dedication to his work.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"A whole series of things (stopped me from marrying) – timing, and my absorption in work at the time. I came close to getting married sometimes, but it didn’t work out,"&nbsp;he explained.</p>
