<p>Signalling further engagement with New Delhi, Taiwan's de facto ambassador to India, Baushuan Ger&nbsp;has said&nbsp;a new Taiwanese office will open in Mumbai on October 16. Taiwan has its de facto embassy or Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) in Delhi and one de facto consulate or office in the southern city of Chennai.</p>

<p>Speaking to WION's Sidhant Sibal, Ger, representative to TECC said that with this new mission "we can serve more Taiwanese and Indian businesses, trade, and economic ties between our societies".</p>

<p>The establishment of the Taipei Economic Culture Centre in Mumbai is part of the expansion of Taiwan's presence in India under its new southbound policy. With the opening of the new office, the number of Taiwanese diplomats will increase to 32, with plans to get more Taiwanese diplomats to India. The development comes even as India, and Taiwan firm up ties in semiconductors, mobility and many Taiwanese teachers come to India to teach Mandarin.<em>&nbsp;</em></p>

<p>Meanwhile, Taiwan's National Day was celebrated in Delhi on Tuesday (Oct 8), but no Indian government representatives were present, as New Delhi does not officially recognise Taiwan as a separate country. <p><strong>Baushuan Ger:</strong> We have 36 Taiwan education centres&nbsp;in India, across Indian campuses. Our desire is to have more Taiwan education centres in India. That will be a very useful bridge between Taiwan and India. Through these centres, we came to promote Mandarin teaching and learning in India and send more Indian students to Taiwan to study, especially in STEM disciplines. They can come back to serve as a bridge.&nbsp;</p>

The establishment of the Taipei Economic Culture Centre in Mumbai is part of the expansion of Taiwan's presence in India under its new southbound policy. With the opening of the new office, the number of Taiwanese diplomats will increase to 32, with plans to get more Taiwanese diplomats to India. The development comes even as India, and Taiwan firm up ties in semiconductors, mobility and many Taiwanese teachers come to India to teach Mandarin. Meanwhile, Taiwan's National Day was celebrated in Delhi on Tuesday (Oct 8), but no Indian government representatives were present, as New Delhi does not officially recognise Taiwan as a separate country. <p>It&nbsp;was a special day for the institute, as it is trying to put on a vibrant display of cultural diversity and resilience through its festival Rendezvous 2024.</p>

<p>Amidst the hustle-bustle and last-minute preparations before the show, three teenage girls - Aarti Bhil, Ajni Bhil, and Reshma Bhil - stand in a corner of the dark backstage - a little jittery but brimming with confidence to showcase the skills they have nurtured through the last few years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For them, it is a momentous occasion, which will not just carve their future but will also substantiate the harsh decision of their families to leave a land which they once called "home".</p>

<p>Home - the word appears very familiar to a lot of people yet it may feel distant or hold a different meaning to some lives that&nbsp;are torn apart in the politics of the powerful.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Riots, political upheavals, natural calamities, coups, religious divides, conflict over land and the worst being the partition of a country, lead to scores of people losing their homes, families, relatives, identities, wealth, future and motherland.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To these displaced souls, home is perhaps a dream long lost in the war and feud of the politically learned. Unlike the latter, they do not understand borders, divisions and limitations between humans. To them, the world is a place to live and not one of war.</p>

<p>And so to live, these little girls - who come from Pakistani Hindu refugee families - are finding their own roots in the soil of Rajasthan which is where these families have found shelter and are now building what we know as "home".</p>

<h2><strong>A home lost, a nation found: Trials and tribulations of refugees</strong></h2>

<p>The girls, donning hues of Rajasthan - red, black, blue and yellow - sing the folk song on the glory of land "Dharti dhorari", as if praising it for keeping them safe in its sand dunes-filled lap.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The children’s participation at the fest was executed by Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation. Incidentally, the organisation’s founder, Sanjeev Newar, is an alumnus of IIT himself. Newar told Wion, “We did it because this event will inspire every child in the refugee community.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>But what made them take the drastic decision? "My uncle was murdered by some Muslim and no one heard our pleas, that was the point when we felt we didn't belong to Pakistan and shifted here," he speaks to WION while keeping his gaze at her sister, whose mellifluous voice flows through the hall and keeps the audience captivated.</p>

<p>But for Aarti's father, Dehraj, the biggest relief is that his daughter now can travel freely across states without any fear of facing any consequences.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In Pakistan, we were afraid even if our daughters stepped out of the houses but now my girl is performing so far from us, but I know she is safe and is getting all opportunities to build her future," the girl's father chuckles as his moist eyes recall the days of hardship when even this land was not a home but just a mere land where he did all menial jobs and endured extreme pain to feed his family.</p>

<p>The case was the same for Dehraj, who sold his land at an extremely low price somehow and ran from Pakistan after he saw his brother getting tagged as "kafir" (a term used for disbelievers of God in Islam) and dying just for demanding taxi fares from Muslim passengers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In Pakistan, if you have to live as a Hindu, you will have to keep your eyes, ears and mouth shut, or else be prepared to lose your house, property and lives," Dehraj warns as his bloodshot eyes scream out his agonies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For Mehtab Ram, father of Reshma, it was the dark future of his children in Pakistan which made him change his motherland and seek shelter in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Reshma is our family's only hope and this is because we are in India," Mehtab stutters amid the wailing of his other children.</p>

<p>The hardships and nightmares of these refugees continue to follow them like a dark shadow in the present times but it is the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019 which has now become their torchbearer as they tread ahead in the future.&nbsp;</p>

<p>CAA is giving them what they need the most - their identity and their right to call India their "motherland" while allowing them to slowly axe their past relationship with Pakistan.</p>

<p>"CAA has benefitted us a lot. Almost my entire family has got their nationalities. The application for the rest of them is under process. This has proved fruitful to all who have come from Pakistan," says Dehraj, while speaking to WION.</p>

<p>It's not just these girls who have emerged as a ray of hope for the families but also the son of Dehraj, Dileep, who aims to become a journalist and ensure that the voices of the underprivileged and uprooted reach the world.</p>

<p>Leaving behind the scars of the dreadful past and the fear of being chased from one's own land, the new generation of Pakistani Hindu refugees is creating their own bright future and hoping to see a horizon with no sunset.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the BJP secured&nbsp;a historic third consecutive win in Haryana assembly elections&nbsp;on Tuesday (Oct 8),&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the people of Haryana have scripted history by blossoming the lotus (BJP's election symbol) and launched an all-out attack on the Congress party.<br />

“This is a win of development. This is the win of the Constitution and democracy,” said PM.</p>

<p>“Haryana has given out a message to Congress. Every family of Haryana united to vote. In the last few years, many conspiracies are brewing to weaken the country. Congress is involved in this conspiracy,” said PM Modi.</p>

<p>PM Modi stressed that Congress wants to weaken the country by weakening the Indian society and spreading anarchy in India, adding, "That is why they are instigating different sections.&nbsp;They are constantly trying to ignite a fire."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The country saw how attempts were made to instigate farmers, but the farmers of Haryana gave them a befitting reply that they are with the country, they are with the BJP. Many attempts were made to instigate Dalits and OBCs, but they also saw the&nbsp;conspiracy and said that they are with the country, they are with the BJP," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Praising the people of Haryana, PM Modi said that for some time now, many conspiracies have been hatched against India. Many conspiracies are being hatched to weaken India's democracy and social fabric.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Today Haryana has given a befitting reply to every such conspiracy. Every Indian will have to take a pledge that we will not let any such conspiracy succeed. India will not deviate from the path of development," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Today, the guarantee of development has overpowered the knot of lies. The people of Haryana have created history. Haryana was constituted in 1966. 13 elections have been held in Haryana so far, out of which in 10 elections, the people of Haryana changed the government, but this time what the people of Haryana have done never happened before. For the first time, a government has been formed in Haryana after completing two terms of 5 years...," he said while addressing the party workers at BJP headquarters in Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He further said, “Today is the sixth day of Navrati, a day to worship Ma Katyayani who rides a lion and holds a lotus, and she is blessing all of us.&nbsp;The lotus has blossomed for the third straight time in Haryana on this auspicious occasion.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Saran Singh has claimed that it was his name that helped wrestler Vinesh Phogat win the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly election.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Phogat, contesting the election on a Congress ticket, emerged victorious by 6,105 votes, beating BJP's Yogesh Kumar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If she wins by using my name, it means I am a great man. At least my name has enough power to help her sail through," Singh was quoted as saying by news wire agency PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Wherever (Vinesh) Phogat goes, destruction follows her, and it will happen in the future too. She may have won the election by herself but Congress is completely doomed," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief was referring to Congress being unable to remove BJP from power in the state. Despite exit polls predicting a Congress sweep, the BJP managed to win 48 seats and secure a third consecutive term.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Phogat emphasised that her victory vindicated her struggle for truth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is the fight of every girl, every woman who chooses the path to fight. This is the victory of every struggle, truth. I will maintain the love and trust that this country has given me," the&nbsp;Congress politician said.</p>

<p>BJP not only won the&nbsp;majority on its own but it also managed to better its seats tally from the last two elections.&nbsp;In 2019, BJP only won 40 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP. Meanwhile, in 2014, during the peak of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity, the BJP managed to secure 47 seats.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Further targeting Hooda, Selja pointed out that ticket distribution had been a point of contention which led to dissatisfaction amongst the ground party workers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the lead-up to the election, there had been visible friction between the two leaders. While Hooda projected himself as the frontrunner for the CM post, Selja also expressed interest in the post, leading to the clashing of swords.&nbsp;</p>

Haryana Election result 2024 Full Winner List: BJP records historic hat-trick in Haryana

<p><strong>Panipat Assembly Election Result 2024 LIVE:</strong> The Indian state of Haryana voted in the assembly election&nbsp;on Saturday (Oct 5). There were a total of 90 constituencies in the state and election&nbsp;was held for all seats in a single phase on Saturday.</p>

<p>On Tuesday (Oct 8), the counting of votes began and the results for all the constituencies were announced on the same day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The high-stakes campaigning for the election concluded on Friday.</p>

<p>The top parties in the fray were the BJP, the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the&nbsp;pre-poll alliance between the Indian National Lok Dal -Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASD).</p>

<h2><strong>A look at the Panipat constituency</strong></h2>

<p>Panipat&nbsp;is an industrial planned region in Haryana. It is famously known as the&nbsp;"City of Weavers" and the "Textile City." It is home to a&nbsp;variety of manufacturing industries, including wool and cotton milling, saltpetre refining, and the manufacture of glass, electrical appliances, and other products.</p>

<p>Panipat has four constituencies in total- Panipat Rural, Panipat City, Israna (SC) and Samalkha.</p>

<p>Rutherford made up a story of a fatal accident at his construction site and said he needed funds to prevent deportation back to the United States, reported Hindustan Times. The woman sent him Rs 70 lakh ($83,365) in Bitcoin between April and June 2023 to help him. She also borrowed some money from her relatives to pay the fraudster, who&nbsp;promised to pay her back.</p>

<p>Sharma said that the parcel addressed to her had been intercepted by the Customs department. She asked the victim to pay various charges to receive the parcel. The victim complied with the demands and transferred funds to different bank accounts between June 2023 and March 2024.</p>

<p>"The fraud didn't end there," said a police officer involved in the probe. The fraudsters tried to extort more money from the victim and posed as executives from Bank of America, who claimed to have received the funds and had sent her an ATM card.</p>

<p>Even after making several payments amounting to Rs 1,29,43,661 ($154,149) in total, the woman kept receiving calls from several&nbsp;people claiming to be from various agencies or authorities. It was only then that the woman finally grew suspicious and realised that she had been scammed. The woman&nbsp;then filed an FIR at the West Region Cyber police station about the incident.</p>

<p>"We have initiated investigation but have yet to uncover any leads to trace the fraudsters," the police officer said.</p>

<p>Congress in a complaint to ECI claimed that during the initial hours of counting, there was an "unexplained slowdown" in updating the results on the website.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"As you can imagine this allows bad faith actors to spin out narratives that undermine the process. You can see examples of it already playing out on social media. Our fear is also that such narratives can then be used by these mala fide actors to influence processes where counting is still underway," Congress said in its complaint.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Addressing the media, Congress General Secretary and Communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh doubled down on the allegations and accused the BJP of subverting people's will.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"All afternoon, I've been in touch with the Election Commission. The Election Commission has replied to my complaint, I've replied to the reply. We've received very serious complaints on the process of counting, the functioning of EVMs in at least three districts. We've spoken to our senior colleagues in Haryana. This information is being collected, and we hope to present this in a consolidated form to the Election Commission."</p>

<p>As soon as BJP appeared&nbsp;to take lead in a turnaround, a Congress politician tried to raise the party's longstanding misgivings about EVMs, saying, "Our stand on EVM has always been the same. Even if we win the elections, we still demand transparency in EVMs."</p>

<p>As per most exit polls earlier, the Congress party was on the cusp of making a comeback, which suggested that the saffron party would fail to woo the voters this time in Haryana.</p>

<p>The average of the various exit polls suggested that Congress may end up with 44-61 seats while BJP will finish second with 18-32 seats. However, the actual trends turned out to be completely different. At first, it looked like Congress would clean sweep this election, the trends then indicated a bipolar result in the state with both major parties in a close contest.</p>

<p>BJP then took a huge leap forward and is currently leading in the state with 49 seats, with Congress in second spot, leading with 37 seats.</p>

<p>Congress politician Shetkar further said, “It's not possible for BJP to form government in Haryana and if this happens then questions will definitely arise.”</p>

<p>Shetkar is the daughter of senior Congress politician Suresh Shetkar, who is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. He represents Zahirabad constituency in Telangana. Suresh Shetkar was also a Member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from the Narayankhed constituency from 2004 to 2009.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While briefing the media outside his house, Farooq Abdullah said, "People have given their mandate; they have proven that they don't accept the decision that was taken on August 5...Omar Abdullah will be the chief minister."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Omar Abdullah secured victory with over 16,000 votes against PDP candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam seat.</p>
