Six protesting doctors&nbsp;have gone on an indefinite hunger strike as the&nbsp;West Bengal government refuses to accept their demands in the aftermath of the brutal rape and murder of a junior trainee doctor at the hospital in August.&nbsp;

“We, the undersigned doctors of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, have been striving to provide optimal hospital services. However, the current conditions have made it increasingly challenging to deliver the quality of patient care that is essential,” the letter stated.

The doctors have demanded better working conditions in the aftermath of the incident, adding that the health of their colleagues was "deteriorating tremendously fast".&nbsp;&nbsp;

“We request the government to come into reconciliation with the protesting doctors and the ones who are sitting on indefinite hunger strike immediately. We senior doctors of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital are giving mass resignation (sic)," it added.&nbsp;

According to the RG Kar doctors, their colleagues from other hospitals were also mulling mass resignations.&nbsp;

“This will hopefully create more pressure. The system is run by seniors… if they resign, it will collapse,” one of the junior doctors was quoted as saying by news agency&nbsp;PTI.&nbsp;

The victim had gone to the seminar room to sleep during a break when Roy pounced on her. The agency did not mention gang rape&nbsp;in the report, indicating that Roy acted alone to commit the crime.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The chargesheet states that Roy attempted to mislead the investigators when CBI came into the picture. During the lie detector test, Roy claimed innocence, stating that the victim was already unconscious when he entered the hall.&nbsp;

Quizzed why he did not inform anyone about the incident, Roy said he was in a state of panic after seeing the woman injured.

With Wangchuk emerging as a strong representative of Ladakh - a sparsely populated&nbsp;union territory of India - he is known to have been receiving invitations to join from various political parties across the nation.

Recently, when he was detained at the Singhu border by the police as he led the 'Delhi Chalo Padayatra’, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi&nbsp;had tried to meet Wangchuk but was unable to do so.&nbsp;

Speaking exclusively to WION, Wangchuk - who is not new to politics - said that he would like to steer away from any political party.

"If I wanted to join a political party, I would have done so in the last 30 years. So, if I have not joined any political party yet, why would I do so now?" he said.

Wangchuk’s father Sonam Wangyal was a Congress leader and later also became a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir state government.&nbsp;

Speaking about why Ladakh needs to be included in the Sixth Schedule to WION, Wangchuk said, "It gives democracy at the grassroot level in regions that have a high percentage of indigenous tribal population. Ladakh has more than 90 per cent indigenous population. With the inclusion of the region in the Sixth Schedule, Ladakh will have autonomous district councils where the local people's representatives can make laws regarding their own customs, land, forests and so on. This, I think, will be the best way to safeguard the fragile ecology of the region."

India had 1,699 women seafarers in 2014, and their count increased to 10,440 in 2023, reflecting an increase of 514 per cent in the registered women Indian seafarers, said Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India's former foreign secretary.

Citing how the count of active Indian seafarers grew from 117,090 in 2014 to nearly 300,000 at present, Shringla highlighted the immense potential that India possesses in the maritime domain.

Shringla was addressing the ninth convocation of the government-run Indian Maritime University (IMU) at its Headquarters in Chennai as the chief guest. The IMU is dedicated to providing education and training in various areas of maritime studies, including navigation, marine engineering, maritime law, and marine management.

The event marked the successful graduation of 1,974 students, which included four&nbsp;doctoral scholars (PhD) and one&nbsp;MS (by research) scholar. The convocation was presided over by Dr&nbsp;Malini V Shankar, IAS (Retd.), vice chancellor of IMU, who conferred degrees to the graduates and delivered the presidential address.

According to data from the Directorate General of Shipping, GOI, India is the third-largest provider of seafarers worldwide, following China and the Philippines. Indian seafarers constitute nearly 10 per cent&nbsp;of the global maritime workforce, Shringla stated.

Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls,&nbsp;Indian National Congress (INC) MP Rahul Gandhi, visited the home of a Dalit farmer in the Kolhapur district of the state and enjoyed a meal there.&nbsp;

A video posted by Gandhi on his X account showed him meeting&nbsp;Ajay Tukaram Sanade and his wife, accompanied by&nbsp;Shahu Patole, the author of the book 'Dalit Kitchens of Marathwada'.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha took a keen interest in the preparation of the dish and learned more about the "Dalit cuisine", which according to Patole, not many knew about.&nbsp;

"You said an interesting thing that no one knows what you eat, how you cook it. Which is why I have come here today," Gandhi said, addressing Patole.

The conversation later veered towards the discrimination faced by the Dalits in the country.&nbsp;

"Talking about Patole ji and the Sanade family’s personal experiences with caste and discrimination, we discussed the lack of awareness about Dalit cuisine and the importance of documentation of this culture," Gandhi posted on X.&nbsp;

''It's a very unfortunate thing that BJP is doing. It's an unconstitutional and undemocratic thing. They are disregarding the people's mandate. This was a nefarious design and it was conceived much before elections. The purpose is to undo the people's verdict. It's a disregard. The Constitution of India says that the President can nominate members of&nbsp;Rajya Sabha&nbsp;but it's different here. Here, the LG can nominate people on his whim and wishes. I fail to understand when the president has not been given any arbitrary powers, how come the LG has them. I would call it pre-poll rigging. The BJP's count will start from six while ours from one,'' said Karra.&nbsp;

As the CEO of the company himself went on deliveries, he discovered the daily struggles of the delivery agents and decided to bring it to the fore by sharing it on social media.

In the video, Goyal shared clips of him visiting Ambience Mall in Gurugram and alleged that the authorities did not allow him to enter the mall from the main entrance and use the lift to go to the third floor.&nbsp;

They instead asked him to take the stairs and climb to the third floor, since he was a delivery executive.

"We reached Ambience Mall in Gurugram to pick up the order from Haldiram's. I was told to take the other entrance, and realised they were asking me to take the stairs. Went in again on the main entrance to make sure there aren't any elevators for delivery partners," the Zomato CEO added.

Goyal said that he reached the third floor through the stairs and he got to know that delivery agents are not allowed to enter the mall and are forced to wait at the stairs only where they receive the orders.

"Chilled with my fellow delivery partners while also getting valuable feedback from them," said the&nbsp;Zomato&nbsp;CEO. He said that he somehow managed to collect the order when "a small break" was taken by the staircase guard.

The justices expressed concern that women, particularly in leadership roles, are often met with unfair challenges, stating, "As a country, we are attempting to realise the progressive goal of gender parity and women empowerment across all spheres, including public offices, and most importantly adequate women representatives in elected bodies." They stressed that such barriers reveal ingrained discriminatory attitudes, preventing progress towards a more inclusive political environment. It must be acknowledged that these women who succeed in occupying such public offices do so only after significant struggle." These strong observations from the court came as it reinstated Manisha Ravindra Panpatil as the sarpanch of Vichkheda in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. Local authorities had disqualified her on the grounds that she resided on government land, an allegation the court found unsubstantiated. Panpatil had been elected in February 2021. In its ruling, the court urged government authorities to create a more supportive environment for women in governance, particularly in rural areas. It added the need for administrative bodies to "sensitise themselves and work towards creating a more conducive atmosphere." The court also noted that the actions of those seeking Panpatil’s disqualification stemmed from resistance to a woman holding decision-making power in the village. "This seems to us a classic case where the residents of the village could not reconcile with the fact that the appellant, being a woman, was nevertheless elected to the office of the sarpanch of their village," the court said. The court expressed concern not only about the biased actions of the private complainants but also the casual manner in which government authorities had removed an elected representative. "While there is no doubt in our mind that the private respondents may have operated in a discriminatory manner, what is more worrying is the casual approach adopted by government authorities in summarily removing an elected representative. This is all the more concerning when the representative in question is a woman and elected in the reservation quota..." it said. The court further warned against the routine or casual dismissal of elected representatives, particularly women from rural areas, as it overlooks the significant effort they invest in winning and maintaining their positions. Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), battling 10 years of anti-incumbency, will be hoping to continue its domination in the region while Congress remains hopeful of staging a comeback.&nbsp;

The counting process will begin at 8 am local time on Tuesday as the ECI officials unlock the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machine), holding the fate of leaders in the state.&nbsp;

"A three-tier security arrangement&nbsp;has&nbsp;been made at counting venues," Haryana's Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal told PTI on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The voting was held in a single phase on October 5, with approximately 67.9&nbsp;per cent voter turnout recorded.&nbsp;Ellenabad assembly seat in Sirsa district had the highest polling percentage at more than 80 per cent.&nbsp;

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who took over from Manohar Lal Khattar earlier this year, led the BJP’s campaign. Saini&nbsp;will continue as the CM if the party wins, BJP said earlier.

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the frontrunner for the CM post and led the Congress campaign in Haryana, but party leader Kumari Selja has also expressed interest in the post.

<h2>What are exit polls predicting?</h2>

As per most exit polls, the grand old party stands on the cusp of making a comeback, which suggests that the saffron swing, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has&nbsp;failed to woo the voters this time in Haryana.&nbsp;

The average of the various exit polls suggests that Congress may end up with 44-61 seats while BJP will finish second with 18-32 seats.&nbsp;

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has come out in&nbsp;defence of his government after five people died during the Indian Air Force's (IAF) mega air show at the Marina Beach in Chennai on Sunday (Oct 6).&nbsp;

Amid criticism from the opposition parties, Stalin said the state authorities had provided adequate facilities as requested by the IAF.

"Arrangements were made to conduct IAF Air Show in Chennai Marina. Facilities and administration assistance was provided as per IAF requirement and demand," said Stalin.&nbsp;

"Due to unexpected overcrowding, public suffered after the event in reaching their vehicles and accessing public transport. Next time, we would focus more and arrangements would be done when similar big events are planned,” he added.

Stalin also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh&nbsp;($6,000) from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the families of the victims.&nbsp;

<h2>Opposition targets Stalin</h2>

Earlier on Monday, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai slammed the Stalin&nbsp;administration for negligence and compromising on the lives of the victims.&nbsp;

"I was shocked to hear that five people died due to crowding, and more than 200 people were injured and admitted to the hospital during the IAF air show. The only reason for this is that the DMK government did not take care of public safety, failing to provide basic facilities and adequate transport arrangements," Annamalai wrote in Tamil on X.

AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the DMK government for inadequate planning and poor crowd management.&nbsp;

“Administrative arrangements and crowds were not managed properly, and the police force was inadequate. The news is shocking that people were stuck in heavy traffic, with no drinking water available, and many were hospitalised due to heatstroke. Five people have died so far,” Palaniswami posted on X.

<h2>What happened in Chennai?</h2>

Despite knowing fully well that more than 1.5 million people were expected to turn up for the event, the Chennai City Police and Chennai Traffic Police did not make suitable arrangements to handle the heavy footfall.&nbsp;

Though the air show was held between 11 am to 1 pm, most people gathered at the venue at least an hour before.

Viral videos showed choked metro stations and Mass Rapid Transport System (under the Indian Railways) stations where people were struggling. The scorching heat and cramped surroundings led to over 200 fainting, with 93 admitted to nearby hospitals. However, five succumbed to death, unfortunately.&nbsp;

The chargesheet states that Roy attempted to mislead the investigators during the probe when CBI came into the picture. During the lie-detector test, Roy claimed innocence, stating that the victim was already unconscious when he entered the hall.&nbsp;

Quizzed why he did not inform anyone about the incident, Roy said he was in a state of panic after seeing the woman injured.

<h2>Mumbai Metro Line 3</h2>

The Mumbai Metro Line 3, or the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line stretches 33.5 km long underground. Only the 12.44 km route will be opened to the public. The cost of the project has been calculated at over Rs 32,000 crore.

The metro will complete a total of 96 daily trips on the Aqua line. Each metro train has a capacity of over 2,000 people. The train has a maximum speed of 85 kmph, and runs at an average speed of 35 kmph.

The new route consists of 10 stations: Aarey, Marol Naka, CSMIA T1 (Terminal 1), MIDC, SEEPZ, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2 (Terminal 2), Vidyanagari, Dharavi, and BKC. Apart from the Aarey station, which is at ground level, all stations are underground.

Amid the volatile situation in West Asia, Iran's ambassador to New Delhi, Iraj Elahi has said that India can ask Israel to de-escalate the situation. Speaking to WION's Sidhant Sibal, Ambassador Elahi said, "We hope that India, as friends of both countries, can play a constructive role. I always invite the countries who have influence on Israel, especially India, which I am ambassador to India, to use their assets, their influence, to encourage Israel for de-escalation. The de-escalation will be to the benefit of both sides, the whole region, and also India".&nbsp;

The situation between Israel and Iran in West Asia is highly tense, marked by Iran's direct missile attack on Israel, which was a response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israel has vowed to respond, amidst fears of a wider regional war.

The ambassador explained: "India can encourage Israel...since the escalation is not on the benefit of any of the no sides, Iran, Israel, the whole region and the whole globe, globally, not the benefit of the whole world."&nbsp;

India and Iran are currently working on a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iran's new President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Kazan summit later this month in Russia. The ambassador spoke at length on the current situation in West Asia terming it as "dangerous". Here's the full interview:

WION: What is the current situation in West Asia?

Iraj Elahi: Unfortunately, the ongoing situation in the region is not good, it is dangerous, as you mentioned, it is dangerous. Israel assassinated Ismail Haniyeh inside Iran, we were obliged to, according to the inherent rights for self-defence and United Nation charter. We were obliged to use our legitimate right to defend and strike Israel for deterrence, you know, to deter Israel from repeating such a violation on Iranian sovereignty. Beside this Israeli invasion in Lebanon and the continuation of genocide in Gaza is going on. Unfortunately the support of the United States is continuing. And not only it's continued, but financially, legally and internationally, the United States is giving new and high, high tech or very advanced ammunition to Israel, which can have an important effect on the tension. So the situation is not good, is not good, and we hope, we hope that the United States and those who are who have influence on Israel will encourage and convince Israel for the de-escalation, since the escalation of the situation will not be to the benefit of no countries.

WION: Do you see the war spilling across West Asia? Do you see strikes coming from Israel?

Iraj Elahi: You know, the ongoing massacre in Gaza, killing more than 41,000 innocent people, there is no doubt that there are combatants of Hamas between this casualty but the continuation of killing and blood shedding in Gaza. You know, the number of casualties has exceeded 41,000 people. Beside this, Israeli forces are targeting refugees. And for this reason,&nbsp;I hope that the wise people in the Western countries and even in India, countries like India, who have influence on Israel and have a good relation with Israel, try to encourage it for the escalation,&nbsp;but we are ready for any case or any situation.&nbsp;

WION: Let's focus on the Indian role. What kind of role do you see or foresee for India amidst this situation in West Asia? Do you see the office of India playing an important role in de-escalation, perhaps sending a message from the two sides calling on for de-escalation, something that we have seen in Ukraine and Russia?&nbsp;

Iraj Elahi: Regarding giving and sending messages between Iran and Israel, since we do not recognise Israel as a legitimate state, there is no,&nbsp;no, no exchange of messages between Iran and Israel. So for this reason, there is no space for other mediators, such as India or other countries to mediate between Iran and Israel. You know, Iran is a state with old history, but Israel is an artificial regime which was set up in the occupied territory of Palestine.&nbsp;So regarding India, we believe that India, since has not only good, but very close relations with Israel. And Israel is one of the close friends of India. India can encourage Israel and attract its attention to the consequences of the current situation, encouragement for de-escalation, since the escalation is not on the benefit of none of the no sides, Iran, Israel, the whole region and the whole globe, globally, not the benefit of the whole world.

WION: Continuing with India, we saw the Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, meeting the Iranian foreign minister in New York. The BRICS summit is also going to happen later this month. Iran is a member of BRICS. Now, can we expect high level engagement between the two sides where there can be a discussion on this particular issue, and will there be a meeting between the Iranian side and the Indian side in BRICS?&nbsp;

Iraj Elahi: Yes.&nbsp;Thank you for this question. I should repeat again our respect and gratitude to India for helping Iran to be a member, full member of BRICS. We will never forget this. And we are now working on a meeting of our President Masoud Pezeshkian and PM Modi, in the coming BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. Of course there were, we were working on a bilateral meeting of both high-ranking ranking meeting, high-ranking leaders in New York. But unfortunately for the logistics you know, the visit of PM Modi was too short, and also, there were too many. Mostly, they were too busy. So we are now working on their meeting in Kazan.

WION:&nbsp;So coming back to the situation in West Asia, now, what's your assessment when it comes to the situation in Lebanon? Because Hezbollah is a group that is seen as a terror group by Israelis. It is seen as a resistance group by the Lebanese. So essentially, when it comes to the Iranian support for Lebanon and for Hezbollah, what's your thought process, assessment?&nbsp;

Iraj Elahi:&nbsp;You know, when you want to answer this question, you should know Lebanon. Lebanon is a small country. It appeared in the map of the region after the Sykes–Picot Agreement, there was a division of the region between France and England and Lebanon, there are different ethnicities in Lebanon, Shia group, Shia community, Sunni community, &nbsp;Maronite Christians,&nbsp;Druze, and because of the invasion of Israel to Lebanon, the Government of Lebanon is not strong enough to defend the sovereignty of Lebanon. So this community, I mean, Shia, Sunni, Maronite, Druze, have their own party and the political party, and they are in the parliament, they are in the cabinet minister, and even they have their own militia to defend themselves, beside and alongside the army of Lebanon. You know, when we talk about Hezbollah etc all of these groups, have militia to defend themselves. So calling Hezbollah as a terrorist group is not true, and we should consider that all community in Lebanon, these this party, Hezbollah, is a political party, has a member in Parliament, has members in the cabinet, Minister, also Maronite&nbsp;Party and the Sunni party have members in Parliament, and they have militia. Hezbollah is now resisting the occupation of and trying to liberate the occupied territory of Lebanon. You know, still some part of South of Lebanon is in the occupation of Israel. I serve in Lebanon, I am fully aware of the situation and Lebanon. So for this reason, we supported, we supported Hezbollah to liberate. We believe that any changes, not only in West Asia, but also in Caucasus, will cause a new round of tension and escalation of clashes in the region. So we believe that the only solution is and for this reason, we support Hezbollah to liberate as we support any you know, we support Syria. WION: You mentioned about the IMEE?

Iraj Elahi: India as an emerging economy and an emerging power in the world with very high growth, growth rate needs, the different needs to diversify its route to different markets. To this, to get raw material and to send its products to different markets. So it is natural for India to diversify its routes. But IMEE is a project which was designed to change the geopolitics of the region.&nbsp;But you know, somebody talks about the impact of IMEE on the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC).&nbsp;We do not have any concern regarding the impact of IMEC on&nbsp;INSTC.&nbsp;INSTC's mission is to connect the Indian Ocean, India to Russia, to Eurasia, to Afghanistan, to Iran, and through Russia and to caucuses and Europe, IMEE is to connect India to Europe. We believe that the political and security impact of IMEE&nbsp;is much, much more important than the economic aspect of this project.&nbsp;

WION: What next for hezbollah?

Iraj Elahi: Hezbollah, Hamas are based, have two dimensions, they have software and hardware. Software is a school of resistance, this thought will not be damaged in any cases, even if you demolish, if Israel could, could kill all of the leaders and destroy this structure, you know. So this thought as after one year, more than one year Israel hitting Hamas hitting Gaza, the still people of Gaza are resisting, you know, because this thought is resilient, but regarding the hardware of Hezbollah, I mean structure, structure, its military capabilities. I think Hezbollah is resilient. Hezbollah is very, very well organised, and very soon it can, it can recover.

WION: So coming back to the India angle amidst this crisis, how do you see India's stance? The Indian government has issued one statement and the comment from the MEA spokesperson, calling for restraint, expressing its concern.

Iraj Elahi:&nbsp;We have a very good and close relationship with India. Our relation goes back to history, and we have been together through history and we have started different projects. You know, Chabahar is just one example of our project. I am in close touch with MEA and different structures of India. And despite this, we fully understand the Indian side for not purchasing Iranian oil, and we do not insist on that, because we do not want to harm Indian companies. But at the same time, we believe that there are too many opportunities for us to set up a new round of cooperation. So from our side, we are fully with India, and we hope that, we expect that India, as friends of both countries, can play a constructive role. I always invite the countries who have influence on Israel, especially India, which I am ambassador to India, to use their assets, their influence, to encourage Israel for de-escalation. The&nbsp;de-escalation will be to the benefit of both sides, the whole region, and also India.

WION:&nbsp;First, it was interesting to see the Indian naval assets, Indian naval ships talking at bandar abbas bandrea Abbas and having those exercises.&nbsp;

Iraj Elahi: It itself proves the level of close, good relation and strategic relation of Iran and India, you know our relation, the relation between Iran and India, has economic aspect, military aspect, political aspect, a cultural aspect. The visit of the vessels of India, and a few months back, an Iranian vessel was in Mumbai, two big Iranian vessels. Iran also participated in the Milan 2024,&nbsp;marine exercise in the Indian Ocean. So the relation is, the relation between Iran and India is progressing, and we are satisfied with this. And we, as I mentioned, we are grateful for Indian support, for membership of Iran in BRICS and also we are trying to find different solutions for the issues which are raised, and both sides have tried. I myself felt this. Both sides are trying to not interfere with each other, in internal issues.

WION:&nbsp;So my last question to you is, last week was very busy for you. I saw you at various events where, essentially, homage was paid to Hasan Nasrullah, whether it's at the India Islamic Center, or whether it's Iranian culture centre as well, we have seen marches as well in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in Indian cities like Lucknow and, of course, here in Delhi as well on Friday. What do you have to say about this event where you participated, and also these protests and marches, when it comes to Hassan Nasrullah?

Iraj Elahi: You know, as Hindus have solidarity with each other, the Shia community, Muslim community, have solidarity and show solidarity with each other. Beside this, Hassan Nasrullah was a well-known leader and was supported and was beloved by many people, not only between Shia community or Sunni community, between Muslim, but even non-Muslim, he was well-known and famous between non Muslim people all around the world. So we, if the people were allowed in western countries, you could witness March of and demonstration of people on the you know, to commemorate the martyrdom of Hassan Nasrullah. I&nbsp;received messages from many Hindus, personalities, dignitaries, that they came to our embassy and called me and sent messages and said, we are sad Hassan Nasrullah was so and so.

WION: Let's focus on the Indian role. What kind of role do you see or foresee for India amidst this situation in West Asia? Do you see the office of India playing an important role in de-escalation, perhaps sending a message from the two sides calling on for de-escalation, something that we have seen in Ukraine and Russia? Iraj Elahi: Regarding giving and sending messages between Iran and Israel, since we do not recognise Israel as a legitimate state, there is no, no, no exchange of messages between Iran and Israel. So for this reason, there is no space for other mediators, such as India or other countries to mediate between Iran and Israel. You know, Iran is a state with old history, but Israel is an artificial regime which was set up in the occupied territory of Palestine. So regarding India, we believe that India, since has not only good, but very close relations with Israel. And Israel is one of the close friends of India. India can encourage Israel and attract its attention to the consequences of the current situation, encouragement for de-escalation, since the escalation is not on the benefit of none of the no sides, Iran, Israel, the whole region and the whole globe, globally, not the benefit of the whole world. WION: Continuing with India, we saw the Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, meeting the Iranian foreign minister in New York. The BRICS summit is also going to happen later this month. Iran is a member of BRICS. Now, can we expect high level engagement between the two sides where there can be a discussion on this particular issue, and will there be a meeting between the Iranian side and the Indian side in BRICS? Iraj Elahi: Yes. Thank you for this question. I should repeat again our respect and gratitude to India for helping Iran to be a member, full member of BRICS. We will never forget this. And we are now working on a meeting of our President Masoud Pezeshkian and PM Modi, in the coming BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. Of course there were, we were working on a bilateral meeting of both high-ranking ranking meeting, high-ranking leaders in New York. But unfortunately for the logistics you know, the visit of PM Modi was too short, and also, there were too many. Mostly, they were too busy. So we are now working on their meeting in Kazan. WION: So coming back to the situation in West Asia, now, what's your assessment when it comes to the situation in Lebanon? Because Hezbollah is a group that is seen as a terror group by Israelis. It is seen as a resistance group by the Lebanese. So essentially, when it comes to the Iranian support for Lebanon and for Hezbollah, what's your thought process, assessment? Iraj Elahi: You know, when you want to answer this question, you should know Lebanon. Lebanon is a small country. It appeared in the map of the region after the Sykes–Picot Agreement, there was a division of the region between France and England and Lebanon, there are different ethnicities in Lebanon, Shia group, Shia community, Sunni community, Maronite Christians, Druze, and because of the invasion of Israel to Lebanon, the Government of Lebanon is not strong enough to defend the sovereignty of Lebanon. So this community, I mean, Shia, Sunni, Maronite, Druze, have their own party and the political party, and they are in the parliament, they are in the cabinet minister, and even they have their own militia to defend themselves, beside and alongside the army of Lebanon. You know, when we talk about Hezbollah etc all of these groups, have militia to defend themselves. So calling Hezbollah as a terrorist group is not true, and we should consider that all community in Lebanon, these this party, Hezbollah, is a political party, has a member in Parliament, has members in the cabinet, Minister, also Maronite Party and the Sunni party have members in Parliament, and they have militia. Hezbollah is now resisting the occupation of and trying to liberate the occupied territory of Lebanon. You know, still some part of South of Lebanon is in the occupation of Israel. I serve in Lebanon, I am fully aware of the situation and Lebanon. So for this reason, we supported, we supported Hezbollah to liberate. We believe that any changes, not only in West Asia, but also in Caucasus, will cause a new round of tension and escalation of clashes in the region. So we believe that the only solution is and for this reason, we support Hezbollah to liberate as we support any you know, we support Syria. While the city's Traffic Police had urged Air Show attendees to use public transport, the city's Metro rail network and Mass Rapid Transport System (under the Indian Railways) were not operating trains at required frequencies. Viral videos showed choked metro stations and MRTS stations where people were struggling.&nbsp;

The same applied to the city buses. This led to overcrowding and chaos even while people were on their way to the air show. Owing to such issues with public transport, people were forced to walk for several kilometres on a blazing hot day.&nbsp;

<h2>The arduous, fatal walk back from the Marina Beach</h2>

Total chaos unfolded after the two-hour Air Show, as thousands of people were pouring into the main road adjoining the Marina beach, with no crowd control measures in place by the local authorities. With most attendees having endured the blazing heat and humidity for more than three hours, they were all desperate to return to the nearest public transport hubs. Predominantly, the crowd comprised of families with school-going children.

However, government vehicles (predominantly belonging to IAS, and IPS officials) and other VIPs began to exit the Marina beach and crowd the arterial road, thereby blocking the path meant for lakhs of pedestrians, who had already borne the brunt of the intense heat. Commoners were forced to walk several kilometres in choc-a-bloc&nbsp;conditions while braving the searing heat and humidity. Completely exhausted and dehydrated, thousands of people sat along the roads and footpaths, unable to walk any further.

Owing to such issues with public transport, people were forced to walk for several kilometres on a blazing hot day. However, government vehicles (predominantly belonging to IAS, and IPS officials) and other VIPs began to exit the Marina beach and crowd the arterial road, thereby blocking the path meant for lakhs of pedestrians, who had already borne the brunt of the intense heat. Commoners were forced to walk several kilometres in choc-a-bloc conditions while braving the searing heat and humidity. Completely exhausted and dehydrated, thousands of people sat along the roads and footpaths, unable to walk any further. While there are hospitals in the vicinity, the traffic congestion meant that the dehydrated persons and those who had fainted could not get the much needed help. As lakhs of people spent a few hours walking across a two-kilometre stretch of road, there were several ambulances caught up in the ensuing congestion. Many took refuge in nearby government buildings, waiting in the shade, for the roads to clear. However, it took more than three hours for this situation to improve. By then, lakhs of people were severely inconvenienced, as is evident from the outpouring of netizens' complaints against local authorities in Chennai.

He was welcomed by Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kiriti Vardhan Singh. Muizzu's visit to India, from October 6-10, has come upon the official invitation of President Droupadi Murmu.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, announced the arrival of Maldives President in New Delhi. Sharing a post on X, he wrote, "A warm welcome to President Mohamed Muizzu of Maldives as he arrives in New Delhi on a State Visit to India."

"Received by MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh at the airport. The visit will provide further boost to this long-standing India-Maldives comprehensive bilateral partnership," the post further said.

Our government is very serious about such cases, and the matter is being investigated," South 24 Parganas superintendent of police, Palash Chandra Dhali said. However, the victim's aunt accused the police of negligence, claiming that they ignored the family’s calls for help. She also said that the girl’s body showed severe injuries, including broken limbs. "The body (of the girl) has several injuries on the body; limbs have been broken...She went missing while coming back from the tuition...Her father tried to find her everywhere, but when he was not able to find her, he went to the police station, but the police refused to listen to him and asked him to go to the Jaynagar police station. Jaishankar was speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave in New Delhi where he made the scathing remarks.&nbsp;

"At the end of the day, however sub-optimal it is in functioning, it is still the only multilateral game in town but when it doesn't step up on key issues, countries figure out their own ways of doing it," Jaishankar said

"Let's take the last 5-10 years, probably the biggest thing which happened in our lives was COVID. Think about what did the UN do on COVID. I think the answer is not very much," he added.&nbsp;

Referring to the ongoing wars in Europe and the Middle East and the UN's inability to stop them, Jaishankar stated, "Where is the UN on them, essentially a bystander?"

"Increasingly there is a non-UN space," he added.&nbsp;

“Regarding UNSC's permanent membership, our aim is to get it as soon as possible. But, this target won’t be achieved that soon. Because the permanent members still enjoy a lot of clout. Whether it’s the Ukraine or Gaza, they have dealings amongst themselves on issues that affect the whole world. So, they won’t want it (number of permanent members) to become six, seven or eight," said Jaishankar at the time.&nbsp;

"So, if we have to come, we will have to make everyone aware, putting pressure and persuading them, only then will we achieve our target,” he added.&nbsp;
