Haryana Assembly Election Result 2024: In Haryana, politicians have been restlessly waiting for the election result, with the ruling BJP eyeing a third consecutive term and the Congress hopeful for a comeback after 10 years.

Early trends showed Tuesday (Oct 8) that Congress initially managed to cross the majority mark easily for the 90-seat strong assembly in Haryana, but then came a shocking turn.Not only did the BJP crossthe majority mark, but it is now leading in the tally, as per the official data on the Election Commission of India (ECI)’s website.

As soon as BJP appearedto take lead in a turnaround, a Congress politician tried to raise the party's longstanding misgivings about EVMs, saying, "Our stand on EVM has always been the same. Even if we win the elections, we still demand transparency in EVMs."

As per most exit polls earlier, the Congress party was on the cusp of making a comeback, which suggested that the saffron party would fail to woo the voters this time in Haryana.

The average of the various exit polls suggested that Congress may end up with 44-61 seats while BJP will finish second with 18-32 seats. However, the actual trends turned out to be completely different. At first, it looked like Congress would clean sweep this election, the trends then indicated a bipolar result in the state with both major parties in a close contest.

BJP then took a huge leap forward and is currently leading in the state with 49 seats, with Congress in second spot, leading with 37 seats.

Congress politician Shetkar further said, “It's not possible for BJP to form government in Haryana and if this happens then questions will definitely arise.”

Shetkar is the daughter of senior Congress politician Suresh Shetkar, who is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. He represents Zahirabad constituency in Telangana. Suresh Shetkar was also a Member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from the Narayankhed constituency from 2004 to 2009.
