Kiran, wife of Hindu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari, who was shot dead on Friday, has threatened to self immolate herself demanding justice for her husband.

Crying inconsolably after the body of Kamlesh Tiwari arrived at his native place in Muhmadabad, his wife demanded justice for her deceased husband and told reporters, "I will commit self-immolation right at this place along with my children".

She said that Kamlesh Tiwari used to get threat calls every day but the administration did not act upon it.

Another family member demanded that the government should provide a government job for two sons of Kamlesh.

"We demand security for the family. CM Yogi should come to meet us otherwise we will not cremate the body," he said.

Tiwari was shot dead at Naka area of Lucknow on Friday. He was the former leader of Hindu Mahasabha and had founded the Hindu Samaj Party.

After being attacked, Tiwari was immediately taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The assailants managed to flee from the spot. A revolver was also recovered from the site of the crime.

"Some people were threatening to kill Kamlesh. That`s why we were demanding security for Kamlesh and family for the last two years. But government and administration did not listen to us," another relative told ANI.

The police have registered the FIR based on the complaint filed by Tiwari`s wife. She has said in her complaint that these two had threatened to kill her husband in 2016, police said.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate Tiwari`s murder.SK Bhagat (Inspector General Lucknow), Dinesh Puri (Superintendent of Police Crime Lucknow) and PK Mishra (Deputy Superintendent of Police Special Task Force) are part of the SIT that has been constituted to probe the murder.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday targeted the Congress over India not having a corridor connecting Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan for seven decades and also over the key pilgrimage centre linked to Guru Nanak Dev being allowed to be in the neighbouring country during partition though it was only about four kilometres away from the international border.

Addressing an election rally at Ellenabad in Sirsa district, Modi said the distance between the holy place and the pilgrims will end through the corridor to be inaugurated next month and it had taken 70 years to do so.

"The distance between us and the holy place of our guru Kartarpur Sahib is going to end. The opportunity has come after seven decades. Seventy years have gone. What can be a bigger misfortune that we had to see the big centre of our faith through binoculars for seven decades," he said.

"Those responsible for deciding the boundary in 1947, did they not think that the devotees and the Guru should not be separated by four kilometres. After this, should Congress not have tried to remove the distance in the last 70 years?" Modi asked.

The Prime Minister stated that the Central government is planning to celebrate this event around the world and a national highway will now be known as Guru Nanak Dev Marg.

"The BJP government is making efforts to familiarise the world with the historic occasion of 550th Prakash Parv. The national highway constructed between Kapurthala and Goindwal Sahib near Tarn Taran will now be known as Guru Nanak Devji Marg," Modi said.

He alleged that the Congress and its allies had not given respect to India`s traditions.

"Congress and its allies have never given respect to the faith, traditions and culture of the Indians. The approach of Congress towards our places of worship, it is their same approach with Jammu-Kashmir. They kept on complicating the problems and did not make an honest attempt to solve them," Modi said.

The rally was held on the last day of campaign for assembly polls in Haryana.

Scores of depositors of the scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank staged a protest here on Saturday demanding the removal of restriction on cash withdrawal imposed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which is currently capped at Rs 40,000 for six months.

The protesters raised slogans and held up placards with slogans like 'Save PMC, Save Us'.

"I have been a customer of this bank for the past 15 years. RBI officials during audit had given this bank A grade. What is our mistake in this? Ours is not black money. It is very difficult to run a household for six months with just Rs 40,000," said Shardab Sheikh, a protester.

Manmohan Singh, another protester said that he was under great pressure to make payments.

"I recently bought a new house and have to pay the builder 1 lakh each month. How will I pay the amount...I am very worried. They should allow us to withdraw more cash," he said.

Last month, the RBI restricted the activities of the PMC Bank for six months and asked it not to grant or renew any loans and advances, make any investment or incur any liability, including borrowing of funds and acceptance of fresh deposits after an alleged fraud of Rs. 4,355 crore scam came to light.

The organisation had initially capped the deposit withdrawal at Rs 10,000 but later raised it to Rs 40,000.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized and identified movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 3,830 crore owned by Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) in connection with the case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that "surgical strike" and "Balakot" were not "mere two-three words" but reflected the policy of BJP and its allies and those who shelter terrorists know that any mistake by them will be properly punished.

Addressing an election rally here, Modi accused the Congress of not giving proper response over the terror strikes carried out by Pakistan-based outfits including the Mumbai terror attack in 2008.

Prime Minister Modi said the situation was different from the days when terrorists had used the sea route to enter India.

"Those who shelter terrorists know that if they make a mistake, they will get full punishment. Surgical strike and Balakot are not mere two words, but reflect the policy of the BJP and its allies," said Modi.

The Prime Minister was referring to the surgical strike carried across the Line of Control in 2016 after the Uri terror attack and aerial strike on a terror camp in Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack earlier this year.

He also alleged that strong action was not taken during the Congress rule even though the perpetrators of terror incidents claimed the responsibility and attempt was not made to find the accused in the country.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday said that Delhi is ahead of other states in the figures released by NITI Aayog`s innovation index list.

"The NITI Aayog, an institution under the Central government, also believes that Delhi`s governing model is the best and if we look at the numbers of innovation index list, then Delhi is far ahead of other states," AAP leader Ajoy Kumar said in a press conference.

He asserted that the National Capital is ahead of other states in education, health, electricity and water.

Hitting out at the BJP government at the Centre, Kumar said that while the AAP is working day and night to make the life of the people of Delhi easier, the BJP leaders are unhappy with these pro-people initiatives.

Referring to BJP MP Vijay Goel, he said that Goel objected to free electricity being provided to the people of Delhi. "I want to tell Goel that as an MP gets 50,000 units of free electricity annually, he should sacrifice that free electricity and pay the electricity bill. If he can get free electricity then why can`t common people get the same," asked Kumar.

He claimed that the BJP is against the facilities being provided to the people of Delhi.

Stressing on Delhi`s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), he said: "On the basis of savings in electricity only, today the people of Delhi are getting benefits ranging from about Rs 2,400 crore to Rs 3,800 crore. When the people of Delhi spend this money for their families, then the GDP of Delhi gets a boost. That is, there is an increase in GDP of Delhi from about 2400 crore to 3800 crore."

He claimed if AAP had benefited any 10 industrialists in place of these 14 lakh families of Delhi who are getting concession in electricity bills, BJP would have seen development in it.

Addressing an election rally in Mumbai, Modi said that Article 370 led to the growth of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and an increase in corruption but the Congress leaders kept practising their "selfish" politics.

"These are the same people who had kept Article 370 and Article 35A. This led to a rise in terrorism in the Valley, an increase in corruption and people being deprived of their rights but the Congress and some of its allies kept practising their selfish politics," he was quoted as saying.

"We removed Article 370 and Article 35A but instead of showing solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, they spoke the language of our adversaries. Whom were their words helping?" Modi said.

The Indian Research Space Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday released the first image of the surface of the moon captured by the Imaging Infrared Spectrometer (IIRS) payload on-board Chandrayaan 2.

"See the first illuminated image of the lunar surface acquired by #Chandrayaan2's IIRS payload. IIRS is designed to measure reflected sunlight from the lunar surface in narrow and contiguous spectral channels," ISRO tweeted along with the picture on its account.

The image covers part of the lunar farside in the northern hemisphere. A few prominent craters (Sommerfield, Stebbins and Kirkwood) are seen in the image. The IIRS on-board Chandrayaan-2 is designed to measure the reflected sunlight and emitted part of Moon light from the lunar surface in narrow and contiguous spectral channels (bands) ranging from ~800 - 5000 nanometre (0.8-5.0 micrometre (um)), ISRO said in a statement.

It uses a grating to split and disperse the reflected sunlight (and emitted component) into different spectral bands.

"The major objective of IIRS is to understand the origin and evolution of the Moon in a geologic context by mapping the lunar surface mineral and volatile composition using signatures in the reflected solar spectrum," the space agency said.

"Preliminary analysis suggests that IIRS could successfully measure the variations in the reflected solar radiation that bounces off the lunar surface from different kinds of surface types, namely, crater central peaks (example Stebbins), crater floors (example Stebbins and Sommerfield), very fresh reworked ejecta associated with small craterlets within the crater floor of a large crater (example Sommerfield) and also the sun-illuminated inner rims of craters (example Kirkwood)," ISRO added.

"The variations in the spectral radiance are primarily due to the mineralogical or compositional variations that exist in the lunar surface and also due to the effect of space weathering," the space agency further said.

Earlier this month, the ISRO had released images of the moon's surface clicked by Orbiter High-Resolution Camera (OHRC) on-board Chandrayaan-2.

The space agency had lost communication from its Lander Vikram which was supposed to soft-land on the far side of the moon on September 7.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lambasted the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for questioning the link between Article 370 and Maharashtra, saying that Sharad Pawar suffering from the cataract of `greed for votes` and he could not see what the people want.

Addressing an election rally in Rajura, Shah said: "Maharashtra is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Veer Savarkar, and Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The land where the fight for `Swaraj` began. Now, they were asking about the relationship between Maharashtra and Article 370. Pawar Sahab, you have got the cataract of greed for votes. You cannot see what the people of the state want."

Calling the BJP a party of patriots led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shah said there is a group of dynastic parties led by Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar.

The BJP president emphasised the struggles of tribal society and said it has played a big role in the independence of the country.

Remembering Birsa Munda, a folk hero who belonged to the Munda tribe, Shah hit out at the Congress and alleged the Adivasi community sacrificed their lives but the Congress "did not respect" them.

Shah further wooed voters belonging to the tribal community with the promise that the Modi government will give the `patta` (lease) to tribal brothers soon after the removal of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Maharashtra.

Shah claimed that most of the tribal society and OBC community MPs and MLAs are from the BJP.

Talking about the Centre`s open defecation-free (ODF) India programme, he said: "Sharad Pawar laughs and says that Modi ji calls the toilet a development. Pawar Saheb you will realise the importance of toilets when you will get to know the diffidence of mothers and sisters, who defecate in the open."

He claimed: "Pawar will never feel our daughters` pain as he has collected millions and billions of rupees."

Maharashtra will go to polls on October 21. The results will be declared on October 24.

The Supreme Court on Friday, after hearing from all the parties, reserved the verdict on a petition filed by former Union Finance Minister and senior Indian National Congress leader P Chidambaram against a Delhi High Court order which had dismissed his bail plea in the INX Media case.

A bench headed by Justice R Banumathi reserved the judgement on the bail hearing plea after hearing arguments from the counsels of Chidambaram and CBI.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, said, "Illegal investment comes into INX and that the investment also goes out without permission (downstream). There was a downstream investment into other companies of INX without any application. A very scientific and professional investigation has resulted in this charge sheet."

"Sometimes, the position of the accused is such that his presence is enough to influence and intimidate the witnesses. At least till some part of the trial is conducted and some material witnesses are examined, the court will face this situation. Chidambaram should not be granted bail until some of the crucial witnesses are examined in the trial in INX media case. This is not a usual bail application," Mehta added.

The CBI said that that people are witnessing an era where persons who are accused of financial offences are fleeing the country.

"We have people who have fled the country. They all were responsible people and had a reputation standing in society. They had properties in the country. I am not comparing. We, as a nation are facing this problem. I am not comparing but arguing on this principle. We can't take the risk again," Mehta said.

Lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, said that putting a person in jail for a longer period of time and incarcerating him does not do any good to criminal jurisprudence. "They should present a strong case for arrest after filing charge-sheet," he said.

"If their charge sheet has found me guilty, then let them prove it in court during the trial. There is no point to bring it all here in a matter of bail. I will answer the allegations in the trial," Sibal added.

As Sibal started his arguments, Mehta raised an objection to his reference to the 2G spectrum case.

Sibal said, "I can argue the way I want. " Mehta on the other hand, replied, "Don't bring up fairytales."

Sibal replied to Mehta saying, "Sometimes you threaten, sometimes you interrupt."

Amidst the pandemonium, Justice Bhanumathi stepped in and said, "Then sometimes you both smile, laugh and talk to each other."
Sibal said that Chidambaram never submitted an application to travel out of the country.

"Chidambaram never gave an application to travel out of the country. Where can he run away? The world knows him. Can we escape trial? It's a spurious, unreasonable and thoughtless to say he has flight risk," he said.

"Solicitor General Tushar Mehta makes the unique argument that Chidambaram will come to the conclusion that he is bound to be convicted and will run away.

What is this new jurisprudence? He has never even once applied for foreign travel," the advocate added.

Sibal alleged that it is a clear purpose of CBI to seek further custody of Chidambaram in order to humiliate him.

Earlier in the day, the CBI filed a chargesheet in a Delhi Court here in connection with the INX media case. P Chidambaram, his son Karti Chidambaram, former media baron Peter Mukerjea among others have been named in the CBI chargesheet.

Chidambaram was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. A special court had on Thursday sent him to the ED custody till October 24.

Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar, while sending Chidambaram to the custody, allowed an application filed by the Congress leader seeking western toilet, home-cooked food, medicine and a separate cell.
In August, the senior Congress leader was booked by the CBI to probe the charges of corruption in the same case.

In the CBI case, the court extended his judicial custody in Tihar jail till October 24.

The case pertains to an FIR registered by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 by Chidambaram when he was the Finance Minister.

ED is investigating the alleged offence of money laundering that arose out of the FIR.

INX media case: Supreme Court reserves judgement on Chidambaram's bail plea

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that his government would invest Rs 3.5 lakh crore in five years to cater to the need of water for drinking and irrigation purposes, reported news agency ANI.

"I will put maximum emphasis in the next five year on the water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. We are planning to spend Rs 3.5 lakh crore in the next five years so that our mothers and sisters, and farmers don`t have to face the shortage of water. Our effort is to ensure that farmers do not have to rely only on weather," Modi was quoted as saying in an election rally.

The traditional water system in villages should be revamped and a new system should be developed where the household water is recycled and is used for irrigation, Modi said.

"It is imperative that we revive the old systems of water management, which used to exist in villages. We want to create systems that can help in recycling household water and which can be used for irrigation. And I`m hopeful that the country will be successful in doing so by 2024," said Modi.

Slamming the opposition parties, Modi said its leaders are busy fighting among themselves and cannot give stability to Haryana.

"When the BJP government in Haryana was taking decisive steps for the development, what was the opposition doing? They could not fight with us. So they were busy fighting among themselves. They destabilised their parties for self-interest. Can they give stability to Haryana," asked Modi.

He said that the opposition has no right to ask for votes in Haryana as it has given the share of the state water to Pakistan during its rule at the Centre. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday slammed Congress over former prime minister Manmohan Singh`s comment that Congress had voted in favour of the dilution of Article 370 in Parliament and had opposed the manner in which Article 370 was abrogated, saying the opposition party has used a senior leader to deliver such statement which is a "lie".

"I am extremely sad to learn that Congress used such a senior leader to deliver a statement on the matter of abrogation of Article 370. Singh has been defamed for his comment. The senior leader was asked to lie in front of everyone, this is extremely sad," Naqvi told ANI.

Singh had told reporters in Mumbai on Thursday that party had voted in favour of the dilution of Article 370 in Parliament but was opposed to the high-handed manner in which the government had done it.

Naqvi also targeted Singh for his comment about lack of hope about Indian economy reaching the target of five trillion dollars by 2024.

Naqvi said people were facing high inflation during the rule of Congress-led UPA and economy too was not doing well. "During Modi-led BJP`s term, the party has made sure that people do not face problems. The foundations of our economy are now strong and people who could not handle the economy well should not give us lessons about it," said Naqvi.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit Leh next week to review the security situation in the region which shares borders with both China and Pakistan.

"The Defence Minister is likely to visit Leh in the beginning of next week where there is a plan to visit forward bases and locations," Defence sources said here.

Rajnath Singh may visit the Daulat Beg Oldie and other areas on the Line of Actual Control and may inaugurate new infrastructure projects there.

The visit is likely to take place at a time when the Indian Army carried out a major exercise codenamed 'Chang Thang' in the high altitude areas of the Ladakh region close to the China border.

During the exercise, India had deployed a large number of infantry troops along with the frontline tank regiments which have been deployed there in recent years.

An armoured brigade has been deployed on the China border a few years ago after they were flown in the Indian Air Force's American-built C-17 Globemaster heavy-lift transport aircraft there.

Rajnath Singh has been travelling extensively to defence bases to get to know the working conditions of the troops and has even flown in fighter aircraft.

Ladakh, which soon will be known as a union territory, is a unique region as it shares its borders with China and Pakistan.

While on the one side is the Siachen-Kargil-Drass axis on the Pakistan front, it shares a long border with China on the eastern side.

Mexico has deported over 300 Indian nationals to New Delhi, the National Migration Institute (INM) said late on Wednesday, calling it unprecedented transatlantic deportation.

The move follows a deal Mexico struck with the United States in June, vowing to significantly curb US-bound migration in exchange for averting US tariffs on Mexican exports.

"It is unprecedented in INM's history - in either form or the number of people - for a transatlantic air transport like the one carried out on this day," INM said in a statement.

The 310 men and one woman that INM said were in Mexico illegally were sent on a chartered flight, accompanied by federal immigration agents and Mexico's National Guard. They arrived in New Delhi on Friday.

Most of the deportees were from India's northern Punjab state, an Indian official said. Police will run checks if any of them had a criminal history, another official said.

INM said the deportees had been scattered in eight states around Mexico, including in southern Mexico from where many Indian migrants enter the country, hoping to transit to the US border.

The backlog of migrants in southern Mexico has grown as officials have stopped issuing permits for them to cross the country, said Caitlyn Yates, a research coordinator at IBI Consultants who has studied increasing numbers of US-bound Asian and African migrants arriving in Mexico.

"This type of deportation in Mexico is the first of its kind but likely to continue," Yates said.

An Indian paramilitary guard was killed and another critically wounded after they were fired upon by Bangladeshi troops at a border river on Thursday, Indian security forces said, the first deadly frontier clash between the nations in years.

The incident in West Bengal took place after Bangladesh detained three Indian fishermen for allegedly sailing into their waters searching for Hilsa, a popular fish in regional cuisine.

Two of the fishermen were released or escaped and informed border guards of their detention.

Six Indian guards then took a boat to an island on the Padma River to secure the release of the third fisherman from their Bangladeshi counterparts, Border Security Force (BSF) said.

The BSF said a "border guard was killed and another critically injured in firing by Bangladeshi border troops along the riverine border".

But in a statement late Thursday, Bangladesh said Indian troops fired first after they "forcibly tried to take the detained fisherman" and their border personnel resisted them.

The Indian soldiers "got angry and opened fire and they drove their speedboat back to India by firing all the way. Then the (Border Guard Bangladesh) patrol team fired back in self-defence," the BGB said.

The Indian border force named the slain maritime officer as Head Constable Vijay Bhan Singh. The second guard was taken to hospital, where he was fighting for his life.

Bangladesh said officials from both sides met after the incident and agreed to investigate the encounter and hold future talks.

Illegal fishing is not uncommon in the Sunderbans, a UNESCO world heritage site which straddles the border of India and Bangladesh and is famous for its mangrove forest.

Thousands of people fish in the area around the year. Fishermen detained on both sides are usually released after talks between border officials.

Border relations between India and Bangladesh have been good, and this is the first fatal incident in recent times.

Earlier, in August 2005, guards on both sides exchanged fire over repairs on the Mahananda river, in West Bengal, with no casualties.
