All these persons have been kept in single-room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by respective state governments, the ministry earlier had said.

Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is going on, the ministry said.

The situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing and dispatch of samples to INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium) labs.

Terrorist and Extremist Groups of Pakistan have faced another major setback as the United States has reviewed and maintained the terrorist designations of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ), along with ISIL Sinai Peninsula (ISIL-SP) and several other organisations.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/unsc-allows-pak-to-pay-lashkar-e-taibas-lakhvi-rs15-lakh-for-his-monthly-expenses-349354">Also read | UNSC allows Pak to pay Lashkar-e-Taiba's Lakhvi Rs1.5 lakh for his monthly expenses</a>

The development comes days ahead of the transition of power in the United States of America.

The LeT, led by Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, is responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people, including six Americans.

Earlier this month, Mumbai attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba operations commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was arrested in Pakistan on terror financing charges.

UN proscribed terrorist Lakhvi, who was on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case, was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department of Punjab province.

The US Department of State said that it has amended the terrorist designations of LJ and ISIL Sinai Peninsula (ISIL-SP) to include additional aliases.

Additionally, the Department of State has reviewed and maintained the Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) designations of LJ, ISIL-SP, LeT, Jaysh Rijal al-Tariq al Naqshabandi, Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan (Ansaru), al-Nusrah Front, Continuity Irish Republican Army, and the National Liberation Army, a media note said.

Based upon a review of the Administrative Records I conclude that the circumstances that were the bases for the designations of the aforementioned organisations as Foreign Terrorist Organisations have not changed in such a manner as to warrant revocation of the designations and that the national security of the United States does not warrant a revocation of the designations, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a federal register notification published on January 14.

These organisations included Lashkar-eTayyiba, Jaysh Rijal al-Tariq al Naqshabandi, Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan, Harakat ulMujahidin, alNusrah Front, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Continuity Irish Republican Army, and the National Liberation Army.

LeT, which carried out the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, was designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States in December 2001.

Since the original designation occurred, LeT has repeatedly changed its name and created front organisations in an effort to avoid sanctions, the State Department said earlier.

The treasury department earlier this month said that the US blocked USD 342,000 in funds of LeT in 2019 as part of its crackdown on foreign terror organisations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the world's biggest coronavirus vaccine programme on Saturday virtually in New Delhi.

On day one, around 300,000 people will receive the first of two doses of the vaccine.

PM Modi exhorted Indians to keep following the Covid guidelines even though the vaccine roll-out does offer a glimmer of hope.&nbsp;'Dawaai bhi aur kadaai bhi' (vaccine along with the mandatory restrictions and strictness) was the motto of Modi's nationally televised address on Saturday morning.

The prime minister said, "Everyone was waiting for this day with bated breath. Everyone kept asking when the vaccine would come. It’s here and in a short span of time. In some minutes from now, the world’s biggest vaccination drive is to begin. It's a testimony to our scientists' talent and skills."

India, home to 1.3 billion people, has the world's second-largest caseload, and the government has given approvals to two vaccines -- though one is yet to complete clinical trials -- aiming to inoculate around 300 million people by July.

Emphasising the enormity of the vaccination drive, which he launched through a remote control amid chanting of Sanskrit shloka that meant 'let everybody be happy, let everybody be healthy', Modi said never before in history, has this type of a large-scale vaccination campaign been undertaken.

He said, "Such a big vaccination drive hasn’t ever been conducted in history. Look at the figures in the first phase -- 3 crore. We have to take it to 30 crore in the second phase. The United States, China and India are the only three countries in the world with a population of over 30 crore. The vaccination drive in India, by that measure, is so huge."

"India's vaccines enjoy global credibility because of their track record. Scientists and experts are satisfied with the safety of Made in India vaccines. That's why they have approved it. Citizens should hence stay away from propaganda, misinformation and rumours," the prime minister&nbsp;advised his countrymen.

"I want to remind people of the country that two doses of the vaccine are very important. Don't commit the mistake that you take one dose and forget the second one. As experts have been saying, there will be a gap of about one month between the two doses," Modi said.

PM Modi got overwhelmed with emotions as he remembered the ones India lost due to Covid-19, and were not accorded a proper farewell owing to the restrictions on movement.

In a choked voice, the Prime Minister also referred to sacrifices made by healthcare and frontline workers, hundreds of whom lost their lives to the viral infection.

He said, "Covid-19 kept people away from their families. Mothers cried for their children and had to stay away. People could not meet their elderly admitted at hospitals. We could not bid adieu to those with proper rituals who died due to coronavirus."

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had earlier this month approved Oxford COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute, and indigenously developed Covaxin of Bharat Biotech for restricted emergency use in the country, paving the way for the massive inoculation drive.

On January 30, the first case of coronavirus was found in India, but even more than two weeks before that India had formed a high level committee, he said.

The country had issued its first advisory on January 17 and India was among first few nations that started screening at airports, Modi said emphasising the speed at which India acted to deal with the pandemic.

Modi also talked about evacuation of Indians stuck abroad, saying that at a time when many countries of the world had left their citizens stranded in China, India evacuated not only Indians but citizens of other countries.

The prime minister congratulated the countrymen for passing the challenge of discipline and patience during the 'Janata Curfew' in March.

He pointed out that the exercise prepared the country psychologically for the lockdown. Morale of the country was kept high with the campaigns like 'taali-thali' and lighting of diyas, the prime minister added.

Indian PM Modi launches world's 'largest coronavirus vaccine drive'

The foreign ministers of India and Nepal sat for the sixth round of a joint commission meeting in Delhi on Friday. The meeting saw a key focus being on Covid vaccine, the border issue, and connectivity.

The Indian side assured that Nepal's requirement will be a priority consideration. This happened on a day when Nepal approved India's Covishield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India.&nbsp;

Nepal wants 20 per cent or around 12 million doses of Covid vaccines from India.

A release by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "The close cooperation between the two sides in combating Covid-19 pandemic in the region was noted. Nepal congratulated India on the remarkable success in production of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines in India and requested for early provision of vaccines to Nepal."

The meet -- which was chaired by Nepal's foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali and external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar -- saw a discussion on the border issues as well.&nbsp;

Nepal had notably issued a new map of the country that showed Indian territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as their territories drawing the ire of New Delhi which dismissed this as "unjustified cartographic assertion".

Nepali foreign minister speaking at a public event in Delhi, to this end, had said, "We desire to start the conversation with a view to resolving the question of boundary alignment in the remaining segments."

"Finding an agreeable boundary alignment in these segments may not only take us to the stage of fully settled international boundary but may also help generate positive vibe in public sentiment as well as help instill greater degree of trust and confidence in bilateral relations," he added.

The two sides also discussed a new oil pipeline on the eastern side connecting Siliguri to Jhapa in Nepal and a possible Raxaul-Kathmandu broad gauge railway line. Both sides welcomed the commencement of construction of third Integrated Check Posts at Nepalgunj.

On the Pancheshwar hydropower project, Nepali FM said, "Our recent conversation on this transformative mega project has been encouraging. Once realised, Pancheshwar will not only be a big project on its own but also set a success story of how we can make arrangements for cost and benefit sharing in harnessing of our vast water resources."

The talks happened in the backdrop of the political crisis in the country with Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolving the lower house of the Parliament. The country goes to the election later this year.&nbsp;

Covid vaccine, border issue discussed during India-Nepal talks in Delhi

Amid reports of a rethink on Nepal's Gorkha recruitment policy, the visiting Nepal foreign minister has said that so far there has not been any change in Kathmandu's position.&nbsp;

In response to a question in Delhi, Nepal FM Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said, "So far as the Gorkha recruitment in the Indian army is concerned, it is a reality and one of the important components of our relationship." Adding, "Yes there are academic discussions in societies, in vibrant democracies, there may be different opinions in that regard, but so far govt of Nepal has not changed its position on this issue or made any new decision in that regard"

As part of India-UK-Nepal tripartite agreement of 1947, Gorkha Regiments serve in the British and Indian army. Last year, the FM had called the agreement "redundant" which raised eyebrows in India.

The Gorkha regiments in the Indian army have been a much-celebrated element of the India-Nepal people-to-people relationship. In fact, India's Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat is from 5/11 Gorkha &nbsp;Rifles. The bravery of Gorkhas has been legendary. &nbsp;War cry of the regiments is 'Jai Maha Kali, Ayo ri Gorkhali' (Hail Goddess Kali, the Gorkhas are here!), well known on both sides of India-Nepal border.

Paying homage to 20 Indian soldiers who died in Galwan valley due to aggressive actions by the Chinese army, Indian <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/army-day-10-things-to-know-about-indias-elite-fighting-force-356830">Army </a>chief General MM Naravane on Friday said that their "sacrifice.. won't go in vain". He was speaking at the annual army day parade.

The death of 20 Indian soldiers at Line of actual control was the worst military incident between India and China in decades and came even as Beijing has been aggressive with most of its neighbours. The Indian army chief pointing out to the Chinese attempts to "unilaterally change the status quo" at LAC was met with a "befitting reply".

India on Thursday highlighted the plight of Yemenis at the United Nations Security Council(UNSC) especially children impacted by the ongoing famine in the west Asian nation.

India's envoy to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti said, "The plight of millions of Yemenis facing, inter alia, severe food insecurity, as well as children suffering malnourishment, are immediate needs which should
move the conscience of the world community."

"India will continue to provide medical and other assistance to those affected by the conflict," Tirumurti added.

Yemen is undergoing the worst famine, termed as by UNICEF as the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. According to the UN body with more than 24 million people some 80 per cent of the population require humanitarian assistance which includes more than 12 million children.

The Indian envoy said, "It is time we put the people of Yemen at the centre of our efforts in the midst of all other developments". He called on for the implementation of the Stockholm agreement that calls for Yemeni govenment and Houthi rebels to address the humanitarian situation as "there are predictions of a widespread famine in Yemen in 2021."

The country has seen a number of attacks, the latest being at the Aden airport when a plane carrying newly formed Yemeni government landed in the city as 28 people were killed which included members of the Red Cross.&nbsp;

The Indian envoy said that these "recurring incidents highlight the safety and security issues faced by humanitarian workers in Yemen" while commending the "valiant efforts of all humanitarian workers to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Yemeni people in need, despite the daunting challenges they face."

During the UNSC meeting on Yemen, India welcomed the recent political developments in the country, including the formation of a new cabinet, security redeployments in southern Yemen which it said: "has triggered a wave of hope".

New Delhi appreciated the "role played by Saudi Arabia and others in facilitating these developments" and acknowledged the "key role of a unified GCC in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in Yemen". Recently Qatar and other GCC countries agreed to bury the hatchet with the signing of the Al Ula declaration.

India has had close ties with Yemen, with around 300,000 Indians of Yemeni origin living in India. Before the crisis began, a large number of Indians used to work in the country. TS Tirumurti pointed out, "strong connect with Yemen, makes the instability, violence and suffering in Yemen painful for India and all Indians."

The International Monetary Fund(IMF) has said India's<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/farming-farmers-contributed-immensely-to-development-of-country-president-ram-nath-kovind-356300"> farm</a> bills has the "potential to represent a significant step forward for agricultural reforms" in the country.

"We believe the farm bills do have the potential to represent a significant step forward for agricultural reforms in India," Gerry Rice, Director of Communications at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said.

The IMF official said the new farm bill will reduce the role of the middlemen and enhance efficiency.

"The measures will enable farmers to directly contract with sellers, allow farmers to retain a greater share of the surplus by reducing the role of middlemen, enhance efficiency and support rural growth," Rice added.

"However, it is crucial that the social safety net adequately protects those who might be adversely impacted during the transition to this new system," the spokesperson added.

"This can be done by ensuring that the job market accommodates those that are impacted by the reforms, and of course, the growth benefits of these reforms will depend, critically, on the effectiveness and the timing of their implementation, so need to pay attention to those issues as well with the reform," Rice said.

IMF's statement comes even as thousands of farmers continue their protests against the bill in the national capital belonging to Punjab and Haryana demanding repeal of the three farm laws and legal guarantee of minimum support price(MSP) for their crops.

On Thursday, farmer leaders had said they will attend the ninth round of talks with the government.&nbsp;

India's<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/supreme-court-puts-three-farms-laws-on-hold-forms-committee-to-hold-talks-356223"> Supreme Court</a> had appointed a panel on farm laws which is likely to hold its first meeting on January 19 even as Bhartiya Kisan Union president Bhupinder Singh Mann said he is recusing himself from the four-member committee.

 Washington [US], January 15 (ANI): The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards that is held every year in January has been shifted in view of the coronavirus pandemic to April 4 and will air on TNT and TBS. According to Variety, though the new date has been revealed, there is no update on the format of the award ceremony which either can be physical or a digital event or a combination of both. "This is definitely a wait-and-see situation. Variations of plans are in the works, but in this current environment, final decisions won`t be made until closer to [the show]," Variety quoted Kathy Connell, SAG Awards executive producer, as saying. This comes after the Recording Academy rescheduled this year`s Grammy award function to March 14 which was the original date decided for the SAG Awards ceremony. SAG-AFTRA had earlier expressed disappointment at the Grammy and the Recording Academy announcing a conflicting date. (ANI)

Urging farmer unions to form an informal group among themselves to prepare concrete proposals to be discussed in the next meeting, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Friday detailed discussions took place at the ninth round of talks but could not reach a decisive stage.

The two sides, therefore, decided to meet again on January 19 at 12 pm, Tomar told reporters after the end of the meeting that lasted for nearly five hours.

"Talks took place over three farm laws in a cordial atmosphere and detailed discussions took place on some issues, but couldn't reach a decisive stage," he said.

"We suggested they can form an informal group of people who can understand the laws better and prepare some concrete proposals, detailing what are farmers' expectations and what clauses are problematic for them, which the government can consider with an open mind," the minister said.

He further said the government is hopeful of discussions reaching some decisive stage at the tenth round of talks on January 19.

On the direct talks between the government and farmers continuing despite the Supreme Court appointing a panel, Tomar said everyone is fully committed to the apex court and the government will also present its side before the committee panel when invited.&nbsp;

"Unions want to continue the dialogue with the government and we have no problem with that. The SC-appointed panel will also work for the welfare of farmers," he said.

The minister said solution can emerge from the government-farmers talks as well as from the SC-appointed panel's deliberations.

"Our effort is to resolve the issue through dialogue and we want the protest to end at the earliest given the adverse weather conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic situation," he said.

On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the government with regard to the farm laws, Tomar said, "Rahul Gandhi's statements and actions are laughed at within his own party also."

"The Congress manifesto in 2019 itself promised these reforms and therefore Sonia and Rahul Gandhi should tell us whether they were lying at that time or are lying right now," he said.

"Preliminary investigation has determined that 14-year-old Jasleen Kaur and 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur, both of Castleton on the Hudson, died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a domestic incident that occurred at their residence at approximately 9:30 pm on Wednesday," New York State Police said.

A fourth resident, 40-year-old Rashpal Kaur, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm but was able to flee the residence.

She is being treated at Albany Medical Center and her wounds are non-life-threatening, it said.

The wounded woman was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries -- with troopers waiting to interview her.

Neighbour Jim Lundstrom said that he was resting that night when he heard his doorbell ring nonstop, according to the Times Union, a daily newspaper in the area.

"Help me! Help me!" he said he heard someone scream.

When Lundstrom checked outside his window, he saw someone walk away from his home and stumble her way up the street to another house.

Then he opened his door.

"There was blood everywhere," Lundstrom said.

Indian-origin man kills daughter, mother-in-law in double murder-suicide in US

Thugalk Editor S.Gurumurthy has hinted that Sasikala, a jailed aide of Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, would be a part of the AIADMK-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu. He said this in the context that, when an alliance was coming together with the intention of defeating the DMK, they(AIADMK-BJP alliance) should accept all elements.&nbsp;

Responding to a question from one of Thuglak’s readers, Gurumurthy took an analogy that Arun Shourie is said to have shared earlier - “When your house is ablaze, you don’t wait till you get pure Ganga water, and you’ll douse the flame with sewage also”. He connected this with the scenario in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.&nbsp;

It is interesting that this comment comes amid growing speculation of Sasikala's release from the Parappana Agrahara prison near Bengaluru on January 27th.&nbsp;

Speaking about the national political trend, he said that the Hindu religious vote bank was a product of flawed secularism and minority appeasement. “Why is there protection for minorities alone, when the Hindu people accept all religions,” said.&nbsp;

On the political history of Tamil Nadu, Gurumurthy said that had MG Ramachandran not founded the AIADMK as a counter to the DMK, there would have been no nationalism and spirituality in Tamil Nadu. “MGR is great”, he said, holding the former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder.

“Both DMK and AIADMK are corrupt, but AIADMK accepts nationalism. DMK is a family party, AIADMK isn’t. DMK is anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin, but AIAMDK isn’t. DMK is secessionist, plays minority politics. DMK is known for abuse of power and Rowdyism, whereas it is less in the AIADMK” he said about the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;

When speaking of the DMK, he took a potshot at its first family and the corruption cases against them, adding that they must be defeated and not allowed to grow. “MK Stalin is going to the Governor to submit a petition seeking action against corruption in the State government, but he takes the 2G scam fame A.Raja along with him” Gurumurthy quipped.

In a series of tweets on Friday, Gurumurthy had added that he did not know of the BJP’s decision regarding the alliance with Sasikala or MK Alagiri, but had decided to tell Thuglak’s readers to support the ADMK-BJP alliance.&nbsp;

"I still regard Amma DMK as Mannargudi mafia as someone had said once. Even if they become part of the BJP-ADMK alliance, I will regard them as only Mafia-like we regarded Chandraswamy as a sewer. We, in Thuglak, will continue to regard Mannargudi family as mafia and they would turn ADMK into a family-owned affair like the DMK. Our opinion on them will not change,"&nbsp;Gurumurthy said.

"If finally something like what the reader had said happens Thuglak cant say now that the ADMK-BJP has taken those people we regarded as sewer, we cant support them. It was to hedge against an unknown situation that I cited the Chandraswamy simile,"&nbsp;read his tweet.&nbsp;

As seen in the video of the Thuglak event, a reader seeks Gurumurthy's response on whether it would be apt for the NDA to ally with Sasikala and he responds to the same with the analogy quoting Arun Shourie.

Around 300 to 400 Pakistan-based terrorists are waiting in launchpads across the Line of Control to infiltrate into the Indian side, said Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Friday, adding that forces at forwarding locations are keeping an eye on their activities.

The Army Chief also said that the forces deployed at Line of Control are giving a befitting reply to Pakistan's ceasefire violations.

'There has been an around 44 per cent increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan at the LoC,` said General Naravane, speaking during the Army Day celebrations on January 15 in Delhi.

Till December 28 this year, Pakistan carried out 4,700 incidents of ceasefire violations at Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Ceasefire violations have jumped to 4,700, the highest in the last 17 years.

In 2019, there were 3,168 ceasefire violations. Interestingly, out of the 3,168 ceasefire violations, 1,551 have taken place since August. The security establishment noticed that it was after the government abrogated Article 370 in August last year that there was a steady rise in ceasefire violations.

In 2018, Pakistan carried out 1629 incidents of ceasefire violations.

Pakistan is using drones and tunnels to smuggle arms and ammunition into the country. `At LoC, our forces are keeping an eye on Pakistan`s activities. The counter-infiltration grid has been strengthened making it nearly impossible for Pakistan to push terrorists into Indian territory,` said the Indian Army Chief.

He also pointed out that the strengthening of the counter-infiltration grid has led to a decrease in terror activities in Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. Last year, around 200 terrorists were killed in counter-terror operations, Indian Army Chief said.

Talking about the situation in North-East states, Gen Naravane said that around 600 extremists surrendered in the last one year and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered. `We have got huge success in counter-terror operations working along with the Myanmar army,` the Indian Army chief said. He also said that the force, along with Assam Rifles and state governments is able to successfully implement the government's Act East Policy.

Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda hailed Tamil Nadu as a state where he saw cooperative federalism working well and where the Central government’s schemes were benefiting the lesser fortunate sections. Nadda was in Chennai to attend the `Namma Ooru Pongal Vizha’ (our city’s Pongal festival) organized by their party’s state unit and as a special guest at the 51st anniversary function of Thuglak magazine.

Clad in Tamil Nadu’s traditional White dhoti, white shirt and Angavastram, Nadda hailed the culture &amp; traditions of the state and also mentioned how the state was home to the oldest language.&nbsp;

During his speeches, he referred to the poet-saint Tiruvalluvar and the legacy of Hindu ethos established by various saints in the holy land of Tamil Nadu. Nadda said the state had famous Kings and empires like the Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas and Pallavas who contributed immensely to its development.

Commending the Thuglak magazine and its leadership for having entered the 51st year, he said that the magazine was known for its righteousness, wit, humor and political punch. He added that the readership and admirers of Thuglak were global.&nbsp;

“Thuglak and its founder (Late Cho Ramaswamy) are synonymous. I had met Cho when I was a student leader. I am happy that S.Gurumurthy has taken over the legacy from Cho and stepped in for an unachievable task” he said.&nbsp;

The BJP President said the 13th Finance Commission during the UPA rule had given only Rs 94,000 crore for Tamil Nadu, whereas &nbsp;the 14th Finance Commission under Modi's rule has given about Rs 5,42,000 crore.

Nadda said the people of the state have benefitted immensely under various central government schemes like the Jan Dhan Yojana (94 lakh people from Tamil Nadu joined the scheme), about 30 lakh gas connections for the poor, 36 lakh LED bulbs distributed in the state, nearly Rs 50,000 crore distributed under Mudra loan, sanctioning of AIIMS hospital and 11 medical colleges for the state among others.

Pointing out the manner in which the financial component of Modi government’s schemes were directly credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, he stated that the BJP’s pro-poor stance was fetching poll wins across the country. He added that mainstreaming of the BJP was the need of the hour in Tamil Nadu.

I am happy that S.Gurumurthy has taken over the legacy from Cho and stepped in for an unachievable task” he said. The BJP President said the 13th Finance Commission during the UPA rule had given only Rs 94,000 crore for Tamil Nadu, whereas the 14th Finance Commission under Modi's rule has given about Rs 5,42,000 crore.

The defence minister said Tejas is going to be the backbone of the fighter fleet of the Indian Air Force in years to come.

Around three years back, the IAF had issued an initial tender for procurement of 83 Tejas aircraft, a four-and-half generation combat jet.

"LCA-Tejas incorporates a large number of new technologies many of which were never attempted in India. The indigenous content of LCA-Tejas is 50 percent in Mk1A variant which will be enhanced to 60 percent,' Singh said.

The defence minister said that aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has already set up second-line manufacturing facilities at its Nasik and Bengaluru divisions.

"Equipped with the augmented infrastructure the HAL will steer LCA-Mk1A production for timely deliveries to the IAF," he said.

Singh said the Tejas programme would act as a catalyst for transforming the Indian aerospace manufacturing ecosystem into a vibrant, self-sustaining one.

"I thank the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi for this historic decision taken by the CCS today, " the defence minister said.

Responding to the request of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for Indian vaccines, a plane carrying two million doses of Covishield will leave for the country from Mumbai on Friday evening. The vaccine, Covishield (AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine) produced by India's serum institute of India, will help kick start Brazil's vaccination program next week.

Meanwhile, Ministry of external affairs, when asked about the development said, "Vaccination process is just starting in India, too early to give a specific response on the supplies to other countries".

Adding,” We will take decision in this regard on due course and this may take some time".

"To enable the immediate implementation of our National Immunization Program", the Brazilian President had written to Indian PM Modi requesting, "2 million doses of the immunizer produced by the Serum Institute of India".&nbsp;

He explained in the letter that, "Brazilian government has launched the National Immunization Program against Covid-19" and "Among the vaccines selected by the Brazilian government, are those from the Indian company Bharat Biotech International Limited (Covaxin) and AstraZeneca at the University of Oxford (Covishield), also produced by the Serum Institute of India."

Important to note that Brazil will be producing 100 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine by its national health institute/laboratory Fiocruz. Fiocruz is right now acquiring ready vaccines from the Serum Institute in India, one of the production centres for the vaccine.

Earlier this month, India's Bharat Biotech signed an agreement with Brazil's Precisa Medicamentos for Covaxin covid vaccine. A team from Precisa Medicamentos visited the Bharat Biotech facility in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad.&nbsp;

The company in a statement said, "In principle, it is understood between both parties that supplies of Covaxin to be prioritized for the public market, through a direct procurement by the Govt. of Brazil". Supplies to the private market would be based upon receipt of market authorization from ANVISA, the Brazilian regulatory authority.

India is known as the pharma capital of the world, a position it reaffirmed during the covid pandemic by sending HCQ and paracetamol to around 150 countries around the world. Indian PM has said that India's vaccine will be for humanity, with priority to the developing world and the neighbourhood.
