"We have been reviewing Armed Forces Special Powers Act in various parts of the country and in response to the improvement in security scenario, it has been lifted from many states", he said.

He further said, "In our endeavour to protect human rights, we must not lose sight of the stark ground realities of the internal security scenario and the constraints under which the security forces operate and the overall resources, positions of the central and state governments".

We have also taken steps to mainstream and sensitise human rights in officers' training courses. I think we need to be equally vigilant to protect legal rights of the security personnel. They need reassurance that their life and rights are also equally precious".
