Former Australian pacer Brett Lee has come up with a radical idea to balance the game between bat and ball. Lee has suggested that akin to the way the batters get a free hit, the bowlers should get a 'free throw'. Lee was speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday (May 23) when he said the pitches needed to be bowler-friendly or innovations made to bridge the gap between both facets of the game. "I am all for sixes and batters getting out there and smoking balls all over the field. But there's gotta be something in it for the bowlers too," said Lee. "I'm not asking for a green top where, you know, teams bowled out for 100 and 110 because that's not good cricket, either. But you know you want a good total. I think anywhere around the 185 mark to 230 I think is a good score," he added. 'Free throw' Pressed further on how he would prevent the ultra-high scores that have been the norm at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Lee came up with the uncharacteristic idea. "I'm happy if we can do something like the free hit. The batsman gets a free hit right? So maybe if the batsman misses two balls in a row, the bowler gets to have a free throw at the stumps," Lee added. Also read | CSK's Tushar Deshpande mocks RCB, shares 'Bengaluru Cant' post after Eliminator defeat "We've seen scores now from 265 to 270 to 277. It's really hard because most bowlers now go for 45 to 50 runs off four overs. So do we accept that bowlers are now happy with 9 to 10 runs per over? Or are we happy to say that the wickets have been a little bit better for the batsman? So a bit more for the bowlers is a bit more of a competition, but I still love seeing six hits because it's entertaining," said the speedster. The introduction of the 'Impact Sub' rule from 2023 has increased the divide in the game with teams opting for specialised batters instead of picking all-rounders. SunRisers Hyderabad posted the highest team total of 287 this year, which was nearly chased by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who raked up 262 in reply. In total, teams have crossed the 200-run mark on a staggering 41 instances whereas the 250-run mark has been breached on eight instances in the league round alone. (With inputs from agencies)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pace bowler Tushar Deshpande did not leave the opportunity to get even with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after the latter crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday (May 22) against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Deshpande shared an Instagram story mocking the Bengaluru side but later deleted it due to public backlash. Deshpande, who finished the season with 17 wickets, shared a post by a CSK fan page which had an image of the Bengaluru Cant. Railway Station with the caption, “Nothing just a railway station in Bengaluru!”. The CSK seamer further wrote, “CSK fans are built different” while tagging the account. Deshpande was clapping back as RCB players had celebrated wildly after defeating CSK in the final league match of the tournament to qualify for the Eliminator. The defeat meant that CSK could not qualify for the playoffs for only the third time in tournament's 17-year history. However, RCB was criticised post the match as MS Dhoni walked off the pitch without shaking hands with the Bengaluru players who were oblivious and busy celebrating the win. Videos on social media showed Dhoni waiting for the RCB players to come around and do the obligatory handshake. However, after no one approached him, Dhoni made his way to the dressing room, prompting Virat Kohli to follow him inside and have a chat with the veteran star. Also read | 'Don't think you'll win...': Ex-CSK batter Ambati Rayudu claps back at RCB for aggressive celebrations Rayudu takes a dig Apart from Deshpande, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu also hit back at RCB after the loss, stating that defeating the record-time champions was not a guarantee for an IPL trophy. "If you talk about RCB today, it shows that only passion and aggressive celebrations don't win you trophies. You need to plan. You didn't get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the same hunger," said Rayudu. "Don't think you will win the IPL trophy just by beating CSK. You will have to come next year once again," he added. Chasing the modest target of 173 set by RCB, RR qualified for the next knockout match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) after Riyan Parag (36) and Shimron Hetmyer (26) stitched a 45-run partnership in the middle to keep RCB at bay. Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu has taken a swipe at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after the Faf du Plessis-led side crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday (May 22). Rayudu recalled RCB's aggressive celebrations against CSK in the last league match and said only winning against the record-time champions did not yield a trophy. After RCB booked their spot in the playoffs with a sensational win over CSK, the players went overboard with their celebrations. The RCB players were criticised as MS Dhoni walked off the pitch without shaking hands with the players who were oblivious and busy celebrating the win. Videos on social media showed that Dhoni waited for the RCB players who kept celebrating before making his way to the dressing room without shaking hands. Virat Kohli later followed him inside to talk to the veteran star. Also read | IPL 2024: All-round Rajasthan Royals eliminate Royal Challengers Bengaluru to enter second qualifier Apart from being the "celebration-police", Rayudu also schooled the RCB management for not blooding the Indian players throughout the last 17 editions. "They need to show more faith in Indians, especially in Indian talent. I don't think in the past 16 years any Indian batter apart from Virat Kohli has scored more than 1,000 runs, and Virat is at 8,000. That shows that you don't have any confidence in Indian talent," said Rayudu. RCB crash out after eliminator defeat RCB failed to turn up on the big occasion as batting first, the team could only manage a sub-par total of 172. Trent Boult and Ravichandran Ashwin bowled excellent spells as RCB batters struggled to gain any momentum throughout the innings. Chasing the modest target, RR started off briskly before Lockie Ferguson removed Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the sixth over. Sanju Samson displayed his audacious strokeplay before a rush-of-blood shot from him saw Dinesh Karthik stump him out. Just when it looked like RR were losing control in the middle overs, Riyan Parag (36) and Shimron Hetmyer (26) added 45 runs for the fifth wicket to shut the door on RCB. (With inputs from agencies)

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, AB de Villiers, is of the view that MS Dhoni should be leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as long as he is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, AB de Villiers, is of the view that MS Dhoni should be leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as long as he is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni handed over the captaincy armband on the eve of the start of the tournaament to Gaikwad, much to the surprise of the fans. While CSK under Gaikwad started off sparklingly, the franchise could not deliver consistent results and eventually crashed out in the league stage after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the virtual knockout last week. "I will only give you an honest answer if you're going to report it in the right way yes so I wouldn't say I called it a mistake. What I meant by that was with MS Dhoni around, playing against MS for so many years, that is the most intimidating sight to have him as an opposing captain," said De Villiers on Jio Cinema. "They took away quite a bit of the intimidation factor from CSK with not having him as captain. It's got nothing to do with Gaikwad's captaincy. I actually think he's got a very bright future and he captained extremely well," he added. While it was Gaikwad's maiden captaincy assignment with CSK, it was only the third time in 17 years that the five-time champions had failed to advance to the knockouts. Also read | IPL 2024: ‘We have seen the last of MS...,’ Dhoni to retire? Here’s what former CSK batter says Dhoni's future uncertain Although most fans and pundits would love to have Dhoni back in the capatincy chair, it remains uncertain at this stage if the former Indian captain would be back, even as a player next season. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently said there had not been "any discussions" regarding Dhoni's future, and that the former CSK captain would inform them about his decision at the right time. “There were no discussions in the dressing room about it. We have never asked him about his future and neither has he said anything about it. When he takes a decision, he will inform us, until then we will not interfere," Viswanathan told The Indian Express newspaper. CSK have to make the tough call on players it wants to hold onto ahead of the mega auctions planned by the BCCI. Since Dhoni is a luxury squad player at this stage in his career, retaining him will be a high risk for the franchise. If BCCI changes the retention rules and increases the number of players a club can retain, it could possibly influence Dhoni's decision as to whether or not to come back to play for the cricket-loving Chennai crowd. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting confirmed that he was approached by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to replace Rahul Dravid as India's head coach, post the 2024 T20 World Cup. The T20 WC will be Dravid's last assignment as the senior men's team's coach -- having extended his tenure post last year's ODI WC. With the last date to apply for the top post being May 27, BCCI is looking at various big names to take over from Dravid.

Thus, Ponting confirmed that he was also approached during Delhi Capitals' (DC) run in IPL 2024 -- where they ended sixth. However, the two-time ODI WC-winning captain revealed that the job will 'not fit into his lifestyle' at the moment.

Ponting told ICC, "I've seen a lot of reports about it. Normally, these things pop up on social media before you even know about them, but there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it."

He further opined, "I'd love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home…everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team you can't be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well."

England men's T20 cricket team captain Jos Buttler has said international cricket should not clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), amid criticism coming his way that he left Rajasthan Royals (RR) when the franchise needed him during the playoffs.

Buttler defended the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to pull him out of the franchise tournament, saying his priority remained his country.&nbsp;

“I said, ‘Look, as an England captain, my main priority is to be playing for England,'” Buttler told reporters on Tuesday.

“It’s my personal opinion that there shouldn’t be any international cricket that clashes with the IPL. I think that these games have been in the calendar for a long time. Of course, leading into a World Cup, your No. 1 priority is playing for England and performing for England. I feel like this is the best preparation,” he added.

While IPL 2024 playoffs began on May 21, the first of the four T20Is between England and Pakistan gets underway on May 22 in Leeds.

Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), Phil Salt (Kolkata Knight Riders), Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings),&nbsp;Reece Topley (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Will Jacks (RCB) are among players who will be missing the playoffs for their respective franchises.&nbsp;

<h2>'Shouldn't bother coming'</h2>

Buttler's statement came after former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram&nbsp;said that players should come for the entirety of the IPL or should not bother coming.&nbsp;

"If you cut salaries, will it affect anything if your team doesn't win after reaching the playoffs? You've put in all the hard work and in the last hurdle, your boys leave because they have to play for the country. It's not fair," said Akram.&nbsp;

"This is what you play for. That's why it's frustrating not just for fans but owners, and captains of the teams for any league. So, I agree with Irfan [Pathan], come for the entire tournament otherwise don't come," he added.

Previously, legendary Indian opener, Sunil Gavaskar, had called for a substantial pay cut for overseas players who cut short their IPL campaign for national duties or whatever reasons.&nbsp;

“I am all for players choosing country before anything else, but having assured various franchises about their availability for the full season, if they pull out now, it will be letting down the franchises which probably pay them more money in one IPL season, which they don’t earn in a few seasons with their country,” Gavaskar said.&nbsp;

The T20 World Cup takes place in the&nbsp;Caribbean and USA, starting June 1, with 20 teams in the fray.

Apart from England, players from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also left IPL midway to join their respective national teams, leading to more outrage amongst the IPL fans.&nbsp;&nbsp;

England men's T20 cricket team captain Jos Buttler has said international cricket should not clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), amid criticism coming his way that he left Rajasthan Royals (RR) when the franchise needed him during the playoffs. Buttler defended the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to pull him out of the franchise tournament, saying his priority remained his country. Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), Phil Salt (Kolkata Knight Riders), Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings), Reece Topley (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Will Jacks (RCB) are among players who will be missing the playoffs for their respective franchises. Also read | Sunil Gavaskar calls for ‘substantial’ pay cut for overseas players for leaving IPL midway 'Shouldn't bother coming' Buttler's statement came after former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram said that players should come for the entirety of the IPL or should not bother coming. "If you cut salaries, will it affect anything if your team doesn't win after reaching the playoffs? You've put in all the hard work and in the last hurdle, your boys leave because they have to play for the country. It's not fair," said Akram. "This is what you play for. That's why it's frustrating not just for fans but owners, and captains of the teams for any league. So, I agree with Irfan [Pathan], come for the entire tournament otherwise don't come," he added. Previously, legendary Indian opener, Sunil Gavaskar, had called for a substantial pay cut for overseas players who cut short their IPL campaign for national duties or whatever reasons. “I am all for players choosing country before anything else, but having assured various franchises about their availability for the full season, if they pull out now, it will be letting down the franchises which probably pay them more money in one IPL season, which they don’t earn in a few seasons with their country,” Gavaskar said. The T20 World Cup takes place in the Caribbean and USA, starting June 1, with 20 teams in the fray. Apart from England, players from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also left IPL midway to join their respective national teams, leading to more outrage amongst the IPL fans. (With inputs from agencies)

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner and Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, was apologetic as he accidentally interrupted a live post-match cricket show as he was taking a victory lap with his kids, Suhana and AbRam at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

KKR cruised to the final after a convincing eight-wicket win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first qualifier on Tuesday (May 21) of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the team celebrated reaching its fourth final in IPL history, Shah Rukh and his family led the lap of honour. A viral video clip showed that Shah Rukh, during the victory lap, accidentally stumbled onto the live broadcast by the JioCinema Hindi commentators. Former cricketers Aakash Chopra, Parthiv Patel and Suresh Raina were conducting the show when Shahrukh arrived on the scene. While Suhana spotted the live shoot and moved his brother to the side, Shah Rukh walked right in, before apologising with folded hands for interrupting the proceedings. As the Bollywood star apologised, he made sure to hug all three of them and later apologised to the fans watching the broadcast before continuing the lap around the stadium. "Oh, what a man! Legend!" said Chopra after the happy accident. “He did not even realise that he walked into the show. He was very apologetic, but I said, 'You made our day. You are the showstopper.” "I spent a bit of time at KKR with him. I batted at No. 8 and also at No. 6 then. He was very supportive," he added. The former India opener also took to X to call Khan a legend. However, the match was beautifully set up by the bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc who justified why the KKR board had splurged a record-breaking sum on him during the previous auction. Starc sent destructive opener Travis Head back to the pavilion on the second ball of the match for a duck. SRH's innings took a downturn from there as Head's opening partner Abhishek Sharma was sent back in the next over as well. SRH lost four wickets inside the powerplay and never really recovered from there despite useful contributions from Heinrich Klassen and skipper Pat Cummins down the order. SRH, however, still have a chance to make it to the final in the second qualifier where they face the winner of the eliminator game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. Earlier, RCB made a cautious start in the eliminator owing to some great bowling by RR bowlers, especially Trent Boult in the powerplay. Boult also took the wicket of RCB skipper Faf du Plessis (17 off 14 balls) as RCB finished the powerplay at 50/1.

The United States pulled off a shock five-wicket win over Bangladesh in a Twenty20 International in Houston on Tuesday (May 21) giving the Americans a timely boost ahead of next month's T20 World Cup. The USA will host group-stage games in the tournament which is being co-hosted with the West Indies, and the three-match series with Bangladesh is their main warm-up. Bangladesh are ranked ninth in the world T20 rankings while the USA are placed 19th, below Nepal and Oman, but the Americans were more than a match for their more experienced opponents. Bangladesh were restricted to 153-6 with Towhid Hridoy top scoring with 58 from 47 balls and off-spinner Steven Taylor picking up two for nine from three overs. But the USA reached the target with three balls to spare thanks to a brilliant 61-run partnership between Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh that saw them over the line. The USA were 94-5 with five overs remaining before the pair turned on the strokes, with former New Zealand international Anderson making 34 off 25 balls with two sixes while ex-Indian Under-19 player Singh hit three sixes and two fours as he struck 33 off just 13 deliveries. IPL 2024: Watch | Shah Rukh Khan's endearing apology after crashing post-match live show After Anderson hit a six from the penultimate ball of the 19th over, the Americans needed nine off the last six balls. Anderson smashed Mahmudullah over long-on for another six and then took a single before Singh struck the next ball over extra cover for four to win the game. "It's a great feeling," said Singh. "I was backing myself and the main aspect of the game was to stay in the game till the last. It came down to our best efforts in the last over and I think that was our plan," he said. "Definitely Corey brings a lot of experience. He himself played a lot of big tournaments, big games. He knows how to finish games and how to stay calm under pressure, finish till the last ball...we all look up to him," he said. The second game of the series will also be in Houston on Thursday.

Subsequently, the security was beefed up outside RCB's team hotel with IPL-accredited membersalso not being allowed to enter the hotel premises. As for the Royals, a 'green corridor' was prepared and three police convoys escorted the team bus. While skipper Sanju Samson arrived late, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal skipped the practice session and remained at the hotel. As the players went through their drills, heavy security patrolled the ground. Gujarat Cricket Association reveals actual REASON behind RCB's cancelled practice and Virat Kohli's threat

Fugitive and former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) owner Vijay Mallya has patted his own back for picking Virat Kohli in the auction ahead of the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2008. Mallya, who has been on the run from the Indian authorities over financial fraud, wished best of luck to RCB who face Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Wednesday (May 22).&nbsp;

RCB bought Kohli for $30,000 for the 2008 edition after he led India to victory in the 2008 U19 World Cup. Despite not having won the IPL title even once, Kohli has remained loyal to the franchise and expressed on multiple occasions that he hopes to end his playing career in Bengaluru.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"When I bid for the RCB franchise and I bid for Virat, my inner instinct told me that I could not have made better choices. My inner instinct tells me that RCB have the best chance to go for the IPL Trophy. Onward and Upward. Best of luck,"&nbsp;Mallya posted on X (formerly Twitter).&nbsp;

The fans on the social media, however, had a field day trolling Mallya who usually only posts on the platform on bank holidays while sitting in the UK, away from the Indian authorities.&nbsp;

"For the first time in 6-7 years he has tweeted on a non holiday. We are massive," said one user, while another commented: "What did your instinct tell you when you fled the country instead of paying what you owed, you THIEF."

SunRisers Hyderabad's (SRH) explosive Australian opener Travis Head says that he'll prioritize Test cricket over the franchise league from the next year on. Head made the comments despite a hugely successful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign where he has scored more that 500 runs at a whopping strike rate of 200.

"This has been the first year in IPL for me in quite a while (since 2017)," Head told news agency PTI. "I would put all my eggs in Test basket for the moment, I will continue to do that."

"After Tests, I will pick formats, and see in which different ways I am available for selection," Head said. "At this stage, I would like to be back here in [the] IPL next year. Like I will play Major League Cricket [in the USA] this year right after the World T20 [T20 World Cup] but next year might just look a lot different.

"Each year, you prioritise what you can and can't do. Next year, Test cricket is around, we tour the West Indies and probably I will not feature in many other franchises," he added.

"Look, in few years when I am finished with Test cricket, then probably there will be few more opportunities to play a bit more franchise cricket. But at this time, I would try to limit it to a couple of franchise[s] maybe, and [focus on] Test cricket," the Southpaw further noted.

Head has been in incredible form since an year or so and has played some great innings for Australia in all formats. He was one of the Player of the Match with 163 in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India last year as well as in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final for his 137 runs.

IPL 2024: 'Next year might...,' SRH batter Travis Head to prioritize Test cricket over franchise T20s

SunRisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins was unperturbed with his side's loss in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday (May 21). Cummins said that his team has earned the right to have bad days and still win the tournament.

"I guess we have earned the right to have one of those days and still win tournaments," Cummins said after the game. "Not our day but good thing we have another crack at it [qualifying for the final]."

SRH were beaten comprehensively by eight wickets as both their batters and bowlers failed to live up to the expectations.

"A bit off the pace," Cummins said when asked about his team's performance. "Think you have those days in T20 cricket. Even when you are a very good side, you have some days where it doesn't quite work out."

"Few guys didn't get off to starts so we were probably short of where we wanted to be with the bat. And then yeah, couldn't get it done with the ball. Kolkata bowled really well. That wicket got better but there was a little bit in it early. But it happens," he added.

SRH, however, have another shot at making it to the final by virtue of their second place finish in the league stage. They will play the winner of RCB vs RR eliminator in the second qualifier. SRH will play the match at Chennai and Cummins was happy with the change in venue.

"Going to a new venue helps as well. It is going to be a bit different feel to here, so you start again," Cummins said. "We have got a good body of work behind us this season to look back on, so we erase this one and move on."

IPL 2024: Skipper Pat Cummins says SRH have 'right to have bad days and still win tournament'

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has slammed Virat Kohli's T20I critics who keep calling for his ouster from the national side. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 edition, which kicks off next month in West Indies and USA, former Aussie batter Ponting has lauded Kohli and feels the right-hander has a lot to offer to India in the shortest format. Punter added that Kohli will be his 'first pick' for India in T20Is.

In recent times, Kohli has been a target of a lot of criticism regarding his strike-rate in T20Is (138.15). The 35-year-old even entered IPL 2024 with a lot of eyebrows on his strike rate, with many raising fingers at his ability to keep the tempo of the innings up right throughout (especially in the middle-overs). Nonetheless, the former Indian captain has silenced his critics in style in this year's IPL, being the highest run-getter with&nbsp;708 runs at an average of 64.36 and a strike-rate of 155.60.

Thus, Ponting slammed Kohli's critics. He told the ICC, "It's funny with Virat. I think people in India just always try to find a reason not to pick him or a reason why he's maybe not as good as some of those other guys in the T20 game. He (Kohli) is the first pick for me for India."

Punter added, "He can play his role at the top. And if you've got the right guys around him scoring (like) Suryakumar (Yadav), Rohit Sharma's going to have a high strike rate. These other guys can go in there and play their way."

Kohli returned to India's T20I setup early this year after a 14-month break. Given how he has fared in the IPL, the veteran looks well prepared to tackle the tricky and contrasting conditions and nature of the surface in West Indies and USA, the co-hosts for the upcoming T20 WC.

Rohit Sharma-led India are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada. They open their campaign on June 5 versus Ireland in New York.

Funny how people want him dropped from T20Is: Ponting silences Virat Kohli's critics before T20 World Cup

Pakistan are set to lock horns with England in a four-match T20I series, in England, starting on May 22 (Wednesday). This will be the final preparations for both the sides as they head into the 2024 T20 World Cup due&nbsp;to kickoff in West Indies and USA in June. Ahead of the series opener, all eyes are on Pakistan's white-ball skipper Babar Azam.

If Pakistan have to strengthen their T20 WC preparations and win the series versus Jos Buttler &amp; Co., Babar will have to be among runs from the first game itself. The right-hander played a blinder in his side's 2-1 T20I series win over Ireland before heading to the United Kingdom. Ahead of the first game, to be held at&nbsp;Headingley, Leeds on Wednesday, here are a plethora of records, owned by Indian superstars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, which can be broken by Babar in the four-match seriesm, and the numbers needed by him to script history:

45 – Babar&nbsp;is just 45 runs short of becoming only the third batter to enter the 4000-run club&nbsp;in T20Is.&nbsp;Kohli and Suzie Bates (of New Zealand) are the other batters to have achieved this feat.

20 - The Pakistan skipper needs 20 more runs to overtake current Indian captain&nbsp;Rohit&nbsp;as the second-highest run-scorer in the shortest format. Hitman&nbsp;has&nbsp;3,974 runs from 151 T20Is -- second-most after Kohli.

83 - Babar&nbsp;is 83 runs away from&nbsp;becoming&nbsp;the all-time leading run-scorer in men’s T20Is. Kohli's tally currently is&nbsp;4,037 runs from 117 T20Is.

48- Babar&nbsp;also needs 48 runs to become the all-time leading run-scorer in T20Is versus two-time T20 WC winner England. At present,&nbsp;Kohli holds the record, amassing&nbsp;639 runs from 20 games.

95 – The 29-year-old Pakistani star&nbsp;needs 95 runs to become the highest run-getter among away batters in T20Is on English soil. Australia's T20 WC-winning skipper&nbsp;Aaron Finch is the&nbsp;record-holder at the moment;&nbsp;370 runs in six T20Is at a whopping&nbsp;average of 61.66.

After Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) demolished Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024 on Tuesday (May 21), the two-time winners became the first side to enter this year's final. On Wednesday (May 22), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator.&nbsp;Ahead of the do-or-die clash, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar gave his bold verdict that RCB will run past RR.

RR, under Sanju Samson, had a fabulous start to the season, winning eight of their first nine games. However, they lost four on the trot and their last league fixture got abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. On the other hand, RCB were at the bottom at the halfway stage but won six straight games to enter the playoffs. Thus, Gavaskar has backed in-form RCB to go past RR at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad; the same venue which hosted Qualifier 1.

<h2>'I will be surprised if RCB&nbsp;does not walk all over RR'</h2>

On Star Sports, Gavaskar said, "Rajasthan they have lost four-five matches. They have not played their last game as well. They have been out of practice. Unless they do something special that KKR did today, despite not playing for 11 days, it could well turn out be another one-sided game tomorrow. My fear is it will be another one sided game tomorrow, where the RCB will walk all over RR. I will be surprised if that does not happen."

He further lauded Faf du Plessis-led RCB for an inspiring turnaround. The Bengaluru unit rode on Faf, Kohli and Rajat Patidar's consistency at the top, played fearless cricket and improved their bowling (courtesy of a more settled line-up) to enter the playoffs.

Thus, Gavaskar added, "What RCB has done is nothing short of phenomenal. Firstly, to believe that they can bounce back. That requires something special. You have to say that their leading players Faf du Plessis, Virat KOhli, their senior players, they are the guys who are most encouraging the other players. Other team members can quickly get into a situation like , 'Oh we have lost everything'. Both of them have played extraordinary cricket."

The pressure will be on one-time winners RR as they should not have reached a stage where they are playing the Eliminator, after topping the league stage for majority of period. Thus, the Sanju Samson-led side have their task cut-out to stop a rampant and fearless RCB in Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening.

The winner will play SRH in Qualifier 2, in Chennai on Friday (May 24). Qualifier 2 winner will meet KKR in the IPL 2024 final on Sunday (May 26) in Chennai.

Also read: 'My main priority...': Jos Buttler issues clarification after leaving IPL midway for England He further lauded Faf du Plessis-led RCB for an inspiring turnaround. Both of them have played extraordinary cricket." The pressure will be on one-time winners RR as they should not have reached a stage where they are playing the Eliminator, after topping the league stage for majority of period.

IPL 2024: 'RCB will walk all over RR' - Sunil Gavaskar's BOLD claim ahead of Eliminator

The buzz around senior Indian men's cricket team head coach is increasing day by day. While current coach Rahul Dravid has reportedly expressed his unwillingness to continue with the job, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications with a deadline of May 27. Since then, many high-profile names have been doing the rounds as having been approached by the board to take over from Dravid post the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.

Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene's name also started doing the rounds for the head coach post, following ex-cricketers Stephen Fleming, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh. However, as per a report in IANS news agency, Jayawardene&nbsp;"hasn't applied nor has been approached for the top job and is currently happy at the&nbsp; Mumbai Indians (MI) set-up."

Notably, Jayawardene is serving as MI's global head of performance. Under his coaching, Mumbai won the IPL thrice in 2017, 2019 and 2020.&nbsp;In addition, he is also in charge for the coaching and scouting of MI franchises in various global T20 leagues, such as&nbsp;the SA20 and ILT20.

Moreover, the former Lankan captain also served as a consultant for Sri Lanka men's team in their recent World Cup campaigns.

Recently, even former Australian opener and coach Justin Langer's name was associated with the India coaching job. Langer, under whom Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs, however, ruled himself out of being in the reckoning.

<h2>'It would almost be the biggest job in cricket'</h2>

After LSG's campaign ended in this year's IPL, Langer said, "It would almost be the biggest job in cricket - being the head coach of the Indian cricket team. One, because of the huge volume of cricket, the huge expectation. It would be a great challenge. It would be great fun and it would be a wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles."

"But with all these things, the timing has got to be right. I did four or so years with the Australian cricket team. It is all encompassing. It is exhausting. Rahul Dravid will probably tell you the same thing and Ravi Shastri will probably tell you the same thing. The pressure on winning for the Indian team is massive. I'm sure the next person who gets the job will be really looking forward to the project," he added.

Dravid's last assignment as India coach is the forthcoming 2024 T20 WC, in West Indies and USA in June. Thus, BCCI is eager to finalise a name soon. Reportedly, the board is willing to offer the new coach a contract till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

India head coach job: Mahela Jayawardene not approached by BCCI for top post - Reports

England are eager to unleash Jofra Archer's "fear factor" against Pakistan as the paceman prepares to return from a long injury lay-off ahead of next month's T20 World Cup, says team-mate Sam Curran.

Injuries have blighted Archer's international career and he has not played top-level cricket for 14 months due to back and elbow issues.

He has managed just 15 Twenty20 appearances for England since making his international debut five years ago but is in the squad for their four-match T20 series against Pakistan, starting this week, and the World Cup.

The 29-year-old has been building up his fitness by playing club cricket in Barbados and last week took a wicket for Sussex's second XI.&nbsp;

"It's incredibly exciting to have a player of his quality," all-rounder Curran said on Monday. "I'm sure England fans and players are extremely buzzed to have him back."

"He's obviously got that extra pace and fear factor we can bring to opposition. We all hope his injuries are behind him now.&nbsp;

"Jof's had a really tough couple of years -- we all hope he can come back and do what he does for England and bring the A game that we know he's got."

England, who are reigning T20 world champions, are desperate to find form ahead of the tournament in the West Indies and the United States after a dismal 50-over World Cup defence in India last year.

Curran is one of eight squad members who returned early from the Indian Premier League ahead of the Pakistan series.&nbsp;

The players had little time together before the defence of their 50-over title.

"The messaging from (captain) Jos (Buttler) and the coaching staff was they wanted to get the group back together and we probably didn't have that last time," said Curran.

"We've been apart for a while so these games are going to be really crucial. We want to be playing as a team and get used to our roles.

"There's a lot of buzz around the group, it seems like we're back to our energy and it seems like the boys are really fizzed about this trophy hopefully coming back."

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the first qualifier on Tuesday (May 21) to become the first finalist of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chasing a modest target of 160, KKR hardly broke a sweat and won the match in 13.3 overs. For Kolkata, Venkatesh Iyer scored unbeaten 28-ball 51 while skipper Shreyas Iyer hit 58 not out off 24 balls.&nbsp;

KKR opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who replaced Englishman Phil Salt, gave fine support to in-form Sunil Narine as the duo added 44 runs for the first wicket in 3.1 overs before T Natarajan sent back Gurbaz. SRH skipper Pat Cummins then sent back Narine on the second ball after the powerplay with KKR already at 67.

SRH's innings took a downturn from there as Head's opening partner Abhishek Sharma was sent back in the next over as well.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rahul then added 26 runs for the third wicket in next three overs before Starc came back to dismiss Reddy and number four Shahbaz Ahmed off successive balls in the fifth over. SRH, one of the most explosive batting units in the ongoing IPL 2024 season, finished the powerplay at 45/4 with Starc claiming three of these wickets.

Heinrich Klaasen then scored 21-ball 32 and added 62 runs with Tripathi for the fifth wicket as SRH crossed 100-run mark in in 11th over. SRH then lost five quick wickets and were 125/9 before Cummins scored 24-ball 30 to take his team past 150-run mark as they finished at 159 in 19.3 overs.&nbsp;

SRH, however, still have a chance to make it to the final in the second qualifier where they face the winner of the eliminator game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals.
