USA stunned Pakistan in a Super Over thriller in match 11 of the 2024 T20 World Cup, at Dallas, on Thursday (June 6). Opting to bowl first, Monank Patel-led USA rode on left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige and&nbsp;Saurabh Netravalkar's early strikes to dent Babar Azam-led Pakistan. While Shadab Khan's 40, captain Babar's 43-ball 44 and finishing cameos from Iftikhar Ahmed and Shaheen Afridi took Pakistan to 159/7, USA tied the game -- despite economical spells from Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah -- courtesy of captain Monank's 50 and vice-captain Aaron Jones' vital 26-ball 36*.

In the Super Over,&nbsp;&nbsp;Amir conceded 18 runs before Pakistan batters only managed 13/1 to lose their tournament opener. USA pacer Netravalkar kept his calm to bowl a fantastic final six balls and take his side home. With this win, the co-hosts are now at the top in Group A with two successive wins, having already beaten Canada in the first game of the 20-nation competition.

Following the shocking result, netizens hilariously trolled Pakistan cricket for their sloppy performance versus an associate nation. Even in the previous T20 WC, Pakistan had lost to Zimbabwe in the group stage. Here are some of the reactions:

<h2>'You have got one team like USA reaching Mt. Everest while Pakistan have really hit rock bottom'</h2>

After the match, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports, "So early to reach such a peak as far as international cricket is concerned, winning this game. You have got one team like USA reaching Mt. Everest while Pakistan have really hit rock bottom. I have not seen a worse performance from Pakistan. This is not just about the defeat. The review, the Super Over from Mohammad Amir, the misfields when the pressure was on. It hurts me to see this because when I played against Pakistan they were world champions, they have hit rock bottom now," Sanjay Manjrekar said.

'Pakistan lose to India H1B': Netizens hilariously troll Babar Azam & Co after T20 WC loss vs USA

USA stunned Pakistan in a thrilling Super Over win in match 11 of the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is being held in the West Indies and USA. Babar Azam-led Pakistan, who kickstarted their campaign at the mega event on Thursday (June 6) at the&nbsp;Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas,&nbsp;were sloppy with the ball and on the field as USA&nbsp;took&nbsp;the 160-run chase to the Super Over.&nbsp;The co-hosts&nbsp;made 18/1 and conceded only 13, taking a wicket, to cause a huge upset.

Talking about the contest, USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a tricky pitch, Pakistan lost&nbsp;Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan and Fakhar Zaman inside the powerplays. Left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige and pacer Saurabh Netravalkar made early inroads as Pakistan were struggling at 26-3. Shadab Khan, at No. 5, tried to accelerate and made a useful 25-ball 40 whereas captain Babar played the anchor's role. Their partnership took Pakistan out of trouble but&nbsp;Kenjige removed Shadab and Azam Khan soon, with the latter falling for a golden duck.

Babar, too, was trapped lbw for a 43-ball 44 (striking at only 102.33) with medium-pacer Jasdeep Singh dismissing him. Iftikhar Ahmed (14-ball 18) and Shaheen Afridi (16-ball 24) took Men in Green to a competitive 159/7. However, a poor start and disciplined bowling from USA prevented the last edition's runners-up from posting anything over 175.

In reply, USA&nbsp;looked determined to make a statement. Openers Steven Taylor and Monank added 36 for the first wicket before Naseem Shah removed the former. Skipper Monank (50) added a fine 68 for the second-wicket with Andries Gous (35) as Pakistani bowlers were erratic whereas their fielding was below-par.&nbsp;

While the two departed before the death overs, Aaron Jones -- who was USA's hero versus Canada with an unbeaten 94 -- remained&nbsp;not out on 36&nbsp;and Nitish Kumar contributed with a run-a-ball 14 to tie the game; at 159 for 3.&nbsp;

In the Super Over, the co-hosts&nbsp;rode on Mohammad Amir's poor bowling (who was economical during the run-chase, with figures of 1&nbsp;for 25)&nbsp;to post 18 for 1. In reply,&nbsp;Netravalkar held his nerves and conceded only 13, also removing Iftikhar, to restrict Pakistan for 13/1 and take his side to a famous win.

USA now have two wins on the trot in the 20-nation tournament. Meanwhile, Pakistan will like to forget this game soon as they take on India in their next outing, in New York, on Sunday (June 9).

T20 World Cup 2024: USA spring HUGE SURPRISE, beat listless Pakistan in Super Over

Monank Patel-led USA stunned Pakistan in a Super Over thriller in match 11 of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Thursday (local time). Playing at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost the game in the Super Over; failing to chase down 19. Following this shocking loss, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar is 'hurt' and stated that Babar &amp; Co. didn't 'deserve to win'.

Akhtar, also known as the Rawalpindi Express, is very active on social media platform X (earlier known as Twitter). He shared a video after Pakistan's loss where he&nbsp;stated, "Disappointing loss for Pakistan. We are not off to a good start, losing to USA. We repeated history, like we did against Bangladesh in the 1999 World Cup. Unfortunately, Pakistan never deserved to win. The reason is that USA played very well and were in a commanding position."

Akhtar further added, "[Mohammad] Amir saved the match. He and Shaheen [Shah Afridi] tried. They [US] won 37 overs of the contest, if we look at the overall picture. Unfortunately, we couldn't pull it off."

Talking about the contest, Babar-led Pakistan were asked to bat first and struggled to get going due to early setbacks and tight bowling from USA (led by pacer Saurabh Netravalkar and left-arm orthodox Nosthush Kenjige). While Shadab Khan's 25-ball 40 and cameos from Iftikhar Ahmed and Shaheen Afridi propelled Pakistan to 159/7, USA tied the game, posting 159/3, courtesy of their captain Monank's 50,&nbsp;Andries Gous (35) and vice-captain Aaron Jones' 36*.

Never deserved to win - Shoaib Akhtar 'hurt' after USA pull off stunning win vs Pakistan in T20 World Cup

A dominant India kickstarted their T20 World Cup with a eight-wicket win over Ireland after skittling the opposition on a paltry total of 96. Skipper Rohit Sharma (52), who retired hurt late in the innings, anchored the chase on a tricky pitch at the Nassau County&nbsp;International Cricket Stadium in New York where a slow outfield made run-making even more difficult.&nbsp;

With all eyes on what opening combination India were going to field in the&nbsp;World Cup, Rohit walked in alongside Virat Kohli (1) to face the opening Irish attack. While Rohit had a reprieve in the first over where a regulation take was dropped by the second slip, Kohli departed trying to manufacture shots on the tacky track.&nbsp;

The Indian team management pushed Rishabh Pant (36*) at no. 3 to join forces with Rohit. The pair took a circumspect route after the initial wicket before Rohit got the hang of the pitch and started hitting his strokes. He reached his half century in 36 balls before retiring hurt after being hit flush on the shoulder.&nbsp;

Suryakumar Yadav, in at no. 4 attempted to keep up with the scoring rate but miscued a tossed up delivery from Benjamin White straight to deep&nbsp;midwicket for an easy catch. However, Pant completed the formalities by reverse whipping a length ball on the stumps straight behind the wicketkeeper's head for a six.&nbsp;

Former Indian cricketer-turned-pundit, Irfan Pathan did not mince any words in criticising the pitch. Pathan said if such pitches were used in India, the stadiums would not be allotted another match.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Look, we definitely want to promote cricket in America, but this pitch is not safe for players. If we had a pitch like this in India, a match would never be played there again for a very long time. This pitch is definitely not good. I mean, we are talking about the World Cup here, not even a bilateral series," Pathan stated on Star Sports.

Wasim Jaffer, another former Indian cricketer, took a jab at ICC by suggesting that the pitch seemed more suited for Test cricket than T20. "This is an excellent pitch in New York. Provided the idea was to get the American audience hooked on to Test cricket disguised as T20," Jaffer posted on X.

The concerns are legitimate as India square up against Pakistan in their next match at the same stadium. The uneven bounce could prove&nbsp;the undoing of a contest that has been billed as the biggest match of the tournament for months.&nbsp;&nbsp;

ICC not in favour of shifting matches from Nassau County Stadium despite pitch concerns

India beat Ireland on Wednesday (June 5) to kickstart their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in style. Playing the Irish side at the&nbsp;Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, India rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 2 for 6 and Hardik Pandya's 3 for 27 to bundle out the Irish camp for a paltry 96&nbsp;and chased it down in 12.2 overs with eight wickets in hand. With this win, Rohit Sharma surpassed T20 WC-winning skipper MS Dhoni to become India's most successful T20I captain.

Rohit, who became the T20I captain after the 2021 T20 WC, has led the Men in Blue in 42 wins in just 55 matches. He, thus, surpassed Dhoni's tally, who led India in 41 wins in 72 games during his captaincy tenure.

Talking about the India-Ireland clash, Paul Stirling &amp; Co. were asked to bat first on a tricky pitch in New York. The Irish camp had no clue about the surface as Indian pacers made early inroads and created enough pressure to dismiss the opposition for 96 in 16 overs. In reply, India rode on captain Rohit's 37-ball 52, who got retired hurt after suffering a blow to his right arm, and Rishabh Pant's 36 not out to close the proceedings in a flash.&nbsp;

Rohit also became the first-ever player to hit 600, or more, international sixes during the Ireland clash. India will now face Pakistan, at the same venue in New York, in their upcoming clash on June 9 (Sunday).

Uganda claimed their first ever&nbsp;T20&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;win with a three-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea at Providence Stadium on Wednesday in a low-scoring but tense encounter. The African side bowled out PNG for 77 and after struggling at 26-5 in reply, reached the target in 18.2 overs with Riazat Ali Shah top-scoring with 33.

Riazat put on a crucial sixth wicket partnership of 35 with Juma Miyagi (13) which effectively won the game for the tournament debutants. But PNG will rue the moment that Riazat, on eight, was dropped by Charles Amini, who misjudged a relatively simple catch.

The Pacific Islanders had their work cut out trying to defend such a low total but were also undone in part by some loose bowling, conceding 15 wides. After that let-off, Riazat played a disciplined and focused innings until, with just three needed to win, he skied a catch to John Kariko at third man.

The Ugandans celebrated their victory with dancing on the edge of the field as the team, which beat out more established cricketing nation Zimbabwe to reach the tournament, picked up their first points.

"That's a pretty special win for us. You know, first win at the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup," said Uganda skipper Brian Masaba.

"It doesn't get more special than this. I'm super proud of this group of guys. I mean, they've put in the work, they've put in such a shift. And to get a win for their country at the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;is very, very special," he added.

Masaba had won the toss and put Papua New Guinea in to bat and was rewarded when Alpesh Ramjani removed PNG captain Assad Vala with the second ball of the innings, trapping him lbw in what was a wicket-maiden opening over.

Sese Bau tried to drive Juma Miyagi but was snaffled up by Roger Mukasa who did well to get back and make the catch from mid-off.

Tony Ura went in similar fashion as his attempted drive off Cosmas Kyewuta became a simple catch for Mukasa at mid-on to leave his side struggling at 19-3 in the fourth over. Lega Siaka looked confident making 12 off 17 balls before an ill-advised attempt to make a second run ended in a run-out and when Charles Amini was bowled by Frank Nsubuga it was damage limitation time.

But only Hiri Hiri (15) and Kiplin Doriga (12) were able to make double figures as the Pacific Islanders were bowled out with five balls left of their allotted 20 overs.

On Wednesday (June 5), India started their campaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup by beating Ireland by eight wickets in match 8 at the&nbsp;Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Opting to bowl first, India rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 2 for 6 and Hardik Pandya's 3 for 27 to bundle out Paul Stirling-led Ireland for 96 in 16 overs and chased down the score in 12.2 overs with eight wickets in hand. During the run-chase, captain Rohit Sharma retired hurt, for a 37-ball 52, after copping up a blow to his right arm.&nbsp;

After the game, Rohit played down any injury concern. At the post-match presentation, Hitman said, "Yeah, just a little sore (the arm)." The statement comes as a huge relief for the Indian camp and their ardent fans as Men in Blue's next clash is against Pakistan, at the same venue in New York, on Sunday (June 9).

Talking about his time spent at the pitch, Rohit said, "It was scratchy, but good to spend some time in the middle and understand what kind of shots to play there."

Along with Rohit, Rishabh Pant -- who came in at No. 3 -- also made a mark and was unbeaten on 36 (off 26 balls) to steer India to an easy win, with Bumrah adjudged the Player-of-the-Match.

On how the surface played, Indian captain Rohit further opined, "Quite unsure of what to expect from the pitch. I don't think the wicket settled down even when we batted second. He added, "I don't know what to expect from the pitch to be honest. We will prepare as if the conditions are going to be like this (for Pakistan game). This is going to be a kind of game where all XI of us will need to contribute."

India will take on Pakistan in a marquee clash on Sunday with an aim to make it two wins in a row. They are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, USA and Canada. The ninth edition of the T20 WC is being held in West Indies and the USA.

T20 WC: Rohit Sharma plays down injury concern ahead of Pakistan tie after retiring hurt vs Ireland

2021 champions Australia kickstarted their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a 39-run win over Oman at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on Wednesday (June 5). While the margin reflects a straightforward win for Mitchell Marsh &amp; Co., the Men in Yellow had some tough moments to overcome to beat the lowly-ranked side. Australia rode on Marcus Stoinis' 36-ball 67*, and 3 for 19, and David Warner's 51-ball 56 to post 164-5 and defended it by restricting Oman for 125/9.

Talking about the contest, Oman opted to bowl first and had Australia struggling at 37&nbsp;for 1 in the powerplays. Travis Head fell early and Warner-Marsh couldn't find the boundaries at ease on a&nbsp;sluggish pitch&nbsp;coupled with some disciplined bowling from Oman. In the middle-overs, Marsh and Glenn Maxwell, whose poor run of form continues from IPL 2024, departed soon and Warner was joined by Stoinis. The duo took their time, with Warner playing the anchor role, but Stoinis got a reprieve and made the most of it from thereon.&nbsp;

Stoinis' 36-ball 67 was laced with 2 fours and 6 sixes as 58 came off the death overs to take his side to an above-par total. Meanwhile, Warner also&nbsp;surpassed Australia's T20 WC-winning captain Aaron Finch&nbsp;to become the country's highest run-getter in the format.

Oman bowlers lost the plot in the end overs, dishing out&nbsp;full-tosses at Stoinis, after a fine start. Mehran Khan was the most-successful bowler with 2 for 38.&nbsp;The medium pacer was also on a hat-trick at one point.

In the run chase, Oman were never in it with Mitchell Starc,&nbsp;who had an injury scare but later confirmed it was just cramps, set the tone for the one-time winners. Nathan Ellis and Stoinis chipped in as well, as Oman were reeling at 29 for 3, further reduced to 56 for 5. While Ayaan and Mehran Khan played decently, they started the counterattack too late and had much to do. As a result, they managed 125 for 9 in 20 overs.

At the post-match presentation, Player-of-the-Match Stoinis said, "Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. Couple kept low and couple were spinning for the spinners. It seemed like swing wasn't available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries."

Oman bowlers lost the plot in the end overs, dishing out full-tosses at Stoinis, after a fine start. Mehran Khan was the most-successful bowler with 2 for 38. The medium pacer was also on a hat-trick at one point. It seemed like swing wasn't available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries." Australia's next clash is against arch-rivals England on June 8 (Saturday) in Barbados.

As Rishabh Pant went across the crease and scooped Ireland's Barry McCarthy out of the ropes to register an eight-wicket win on Wednesday (Jun 5) in its first match of the 2024 T20 World Cup, one thing became clear: India aren't as bad as many thought for many weeks leading up to the tournament.

When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the squad for the tourney in the USA and the West Indies, it felt like India were stomping on an axe. The team looked dull. Not one member of the first 15 reached the IPL 2024 final, which seemed symbolic of the team being behind the needs of the hard-hitting, defensive-bowling T20 era.

Pant was in the middle of it. A batter with a T20I average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.38 was reportedly the first-choice wicketkeeper over Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, who had just had his best-ever season in the IPL with a strike rate of 153.47.

To be clear, that concern, along with the worry about the seemingly conservative selections (like Rohit Sharma, who doesn’t have the T20 numbers to back him) and the exclusion of Rinku Singh were not wrong. They made complete sense at the time and still do.

However, from the evidence of the conditions we have seen so far in both host countries, the squad doesn’t look as out of place as it would have been otherwise.

Both Pant and Rohit like to take their time at the start of the innings. It wasn’t possible during IPL 2024 because on tracks as flat as those in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, wasting deliveries to understand the bounce meant pulling your team behind. In the US, with uneven bounce and turn, and in the West Indies, with slow turn and low bounce, taking time is excusable.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/t20-wc-rohit-sharma-surpasses-ms-dhoni-to-become-indian-captain-with-most-t20i-wins-after-ireland-tie-729219">Also read |&nbsp;T20 WC: Rohit Sharma surpasses MS Dhoni to become Indian captain with most T20I wins after Ireland tie</a>

Here, it’s important for the set batters to take responsibility and finish the game because unlike in the IPL, wickets can quickly fall in the middle overs when the ball gets old.

“It's going back to the old T20, with someone needed to bat through [the innings],” Australian captain Mitchell Marsh said on Thursday after his side recovered from 50/3 against Oman to win the game by 39 runs in Barbados.

This “old T20” suits India well. Apart from Pant and Rohit, Virat Kohli at the top can always drop into the anchor role, despite leveling up his big-hitting game in IPL 2024.

The finishing concerns about Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya can also rest as their weakness — hard-length at pace — seems to be slightly less effective on the slowish tracks. The abundance of spin throughout the tournament will also favour the move to bring Shivam Dube (who strikes at 158.80 against spin in the IPL since 2022) over Rinku (110.65).

Finally, India’s bowling attack, which initially seemed over-dependent on Jasprit Bumrah, looks much better. Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj, who struggled on flat tracks in India, are enjoying the seam movement available in the US while Jadeja and Axar Patel’s Test-match style bowling is much more difficult to get away here than in India.

A bit like how Australia performed better than India in the 2023 World Cup final thanks to the helpful pitch, despite being a weaker team on paper, the Men in Blue can get the best out of their playing 11 to beat stronger, more balanced opponents with the help of the conditions.

It might be a well-thought-out move from the selectors or just a happy coincidence — and a bigger test awaits against Pakistan on June 9 still — but so far, it’s working and India is thriving.

T20 World Cup: Why the tough conditions in the US and West Indies are a blessing in disguise for India

During India's T20 World Cup opener versus Ireland, on Wednesday (June 5) in New York, Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the first batter to hit 600 international sixes.

T20 WORLD CUP: Batters with most sixes in international cricket

India won the toss in their opening T20 World Cup match and put Ireland in to bat first. With the conditions overcast, both sides anticipated swing initially but the pitch and outfield at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York surprised the players as well as the fans.

India won the toss in their opening T20 World Cup match and put Ireland in to bat first. With the conditions overcast, both sides anticipated swing initially but the pitch and outfield at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York surprised the players as well as the fans. India struck early in the third over as Arshdeep Singh sent opposition captain Paul Stirling back to the hut who miscued a pull shot straight up in the air. Rishabh Pant, playing his first match in Indian colours after 17 months, pouched the difficult catch without any fuss. Prior to Stirling's dismissal, the ball had taken off after pitching on length on multiple occasions - sowing seeds of doubts in the batter's minds. Notably, in the previous match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, similar grievances were made by both teams as the uneven bounce did not allow for a fair competition between the bat and ball. Since the Nassau County Stadium was developed from scratch in the last few months, drop-in pitches that were prepared in Australia and later curated in Florida have been used for the two matches. The outfield has also been laid down artificially which means the ball cannot zip through the surface when the batter times it. Consequently, India managed to skittle off Ireland on the paltry total of 96 in only 16 overs. Only four batters were able to get into double figures as Indian bowlers dominated the proceedings. Max O'Dowd hit an unbeaten half-century to steer the Netherlands to a six-wicket victory over Nepal in their T20 World Cup Group D clash on Tuesday.

Set a target of 107 to win, O'Dowd anchored the Netherlands' run chase with 54 off 48 balls to see the Dutch over the line at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

The Netherlands finished on 109-4 off 18.4 overs, with Bas de Leede hitting the winning runs with a boundary to seal victory.

Vikram Singh supported O'Dowd with 22 runs while Sybrand Engelbrecht was the only other Netherlands batsman to make it into double figures with 14.

Nepal, meanwhile, were left ruing a trio of dropped catches that might have turned the game had they gone to hand, including skipper Rohit Paudel's missed chance to get rid of O'Dowd in the 18th over.

The Netherlands' modest victory target had been set up by a disciplined bowling display which restricted Nepal to 106 all out.

"Our bowlers were awesome up top," Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said afterwards.&nbsp;

"All five of our bowlers were brilliant. Ideally we would have got the runs a little quicker, but it was great the way Max batted, and Bassie finished it off well.

"We've got to play consistent cricket right way through this tournament."

Logan van Beek took three wickets for just 18 runs while Tim Pringle also claimed a trio of wickets, finishing with figures of 3-20 off four overs.

Paul van Meekeren bagged a brace of wickets for 19 runs while de Leede finished on 2-22.

After losing the toss, Nepal's batsmen struggled to get to grips with moist, overcast conditions after being put into bat following a slight delay of play caused by a wet outfield.

"The conditions while batting were really challenging," Nepal captain Paudel said. "Netherlands bowled really well."

Nepal were in trouble early on to find themselves struggling at 15-2 after 3.1 overs.

Anil Sah was the next to fall for 11 runs after being caught by van Beek off Pringle as Nepal reached 40-3.

There was a slight revival after Rohit Paudel hit a brisk 35 off 37 balls, but the Nepal skipper soon found himself running out of middle order partners.

Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami all fell in quick succession to leave Nepal struggling on 66-6 after 13.2 overs, and when Paudel was dismissed by Pringle the final three wickets all tumbled rapidly.

T20 World Cup 2024: Max O'Dowd half-century steers Netherlands past Nepal

Scotland openers George Munsey and Michael Jones gave England a fright in their T20 World Cup opener in Barbados on Tuesday before rain spared the defending champions a potentially tough chase.

Scotland, in their first T20 against their border rivals, were bidding to match their shock success when they last met England -- a six-run one-day international win in Edinburgh back in 2018.

England, meanwhile, were desperate to improve on a woeful defence of their 50-over global title in India last year, where Jos Buttler's men lost six of their nine matches.

But after Scotland captain Richie Berrington won the toss on Tuesday, they failed to create one clear and legitimate wicket-taking chance.

Munsey (41 not out off 31 balls) and Jones (45 not out off 30) batted superbly to take Scotland to 90-0 in a rain-interrupted innings of 10 overs at the Kensington Oval.

Because Scotland's innings suffered a lengthy delay on 51-0 off 6.2 overs, it meant England were left with a revised target of 109 in 10 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

But a fresh downpour led the umpires to abandon the Group B match before England, on a ground where they won the 2010 T20 World Cup final, could begin their reply.

Both England and Scotland received a point each.

"We expected a tough challenge, there are no easy games, but we were confident coming into the game," said England captain Buttler.

"It's disappointment for everyone... We scrapped hard and we were confident of chasing that score down."

Earlier, left-hander Munsey, on 16, top top-edged a hook off Mark Wood high to wicketkeeper Buttler, only to be reprieved by the fast bowler's no-ball.

"No-ball wickets are always disappointing, but these things happen," said Buttler, who led England to 2022 T20 World Cup glory in Australia.&nbsp;

"Hopefully we get a dry day and we can get into the tournament," he added, with England due back at the Kensington Oval on Saturday to face arch-rivals Australia.&nbsp;

<h2>Positives</h2>

Berrington, meanwhile, was left with thoughts of what might have been.

"Everyone's frustrated, but some positives to take at least," he said, with Scotland next playing fellow non-Test nation Namibia at the ground on Thursday.

"The guys in the middle did a really good job and we can take things from that. We gave ourselves a chance there."

Chris Jordan was hit for 14 runs in three balls by Jones, who had arrived at the tournament fresh from a stint with English county Durham,

A huge pulled six, that damaged a solar panel on the roof of a stand, was followed by two scorching fours.

When play resumed, revised restrictions limiting bowlers to a maximum of two overs each meant both Wood and fellow quick Jofra Archer had bowled out.

Scotland added a further 39 runs from 22 balls, with Jones and Munsey both smashing leg-spinner Adil Rashid (0-26) for huge sixes.&nbsp;

Wood topped speeds of 94 mph (151 kph), on his way to 0-11, while Barbados-born Archer, in his first international at his hometown ground, had figures of 0-12 from his two overs.

T20 World Cup 2024: England-Scotland washed out as defending champions await for first win over European team

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the T20I captain ahead of the Men in Green's T20 World Cup 2024 run, in West Indies and USA. Ponting feels the team looks more settled under Babar and have a better chance at the ongoing mega event under him. Babar replaced Shaheen Afridi, who succeeded the former, as the T20I captain just two months before the marquee ICC event. Shaheen had a short stint as the T20I captain, where he only led Pakistan in five away games in New Zealand, with the Black Caps thrashing them 4-1.

Speaking to the ICC, Ponting suggested that it is not necessary for a good player to be a good captain as well. "Captaincy just sits well with some people and it doesn't sit well with others," the ex-cricketer stated.

The Aussie reckoned, "We've seen it through the years that some of the best players that have ever played the game have not necessarily made the best captains and the thing that makes some of the very best players so good is how focused they are on what they need to do to get better and to be the best and find a way every day to get better."

Ponting further opined, "And when you are captain, you can't do that. You've got to actually compartmentalise what you're doing, look after your own game, look after all the guys around you. So, some guys can manage that better than others."

It is to be noted that Babar stepped down as Pakistan captain across formats after the team's shambolic performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where the one-time winners failed to even make it to the semifinals. Soon, PCB appointed Shaheen as the T20I captain but the change in captaincy couldn't bring a change in the team fortunes. In addition, it was learnt that the pacer was contemplating to step aside as captain after not being included in discussions about his future in the role.

Ponting, the two-time ODI WC-winning captain, further pointed out that Babar also suffered a dip in form when he earlier took over the captaincy, however, the right-hander learnt from it and emerged as a match-winner.

"I reckon Babar, when he first started, I had that feeling that he... because if you look at his record, his numbers went down on the back of it. So I think he might have learned a bit from that," Punter mentioned.

Ponting feels Pakistan have strengthened their chances to get their hands on the T20 WC trophy with Babar back at the helm of affairs. He added, "Shaheen didn't set the world on fire as a leader either, so I think going back into a World Cup it just looks like a more settled team when you've got someone like Babar as captain rather than Afridi."

Babar-led Pakistan kickoff their T20 WC campaign on Thursday (June 6), against USA at Dallas. They are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals India, USA, Canada and Ireland.

The wicketkeeper-batter was brutally trolled after he got out to a lethal bouncer from Mark Wood and later dropped a sitter to give reprieve to Will Jacks during the match against England.

The wicketkeeper-batter was brutally trolled after he got out to a lethal bouncer from Mark Wood and later dropped a sitter to give reprieve to Will Jacks during the match against England. "He is under immense pressure. He is being body shamed, is being trolled. Azam is an exceptional batsman in T20s," Latif was quoted as saying by newspaper The Indian Express. "He is a clean hitter, plays spinners well, has worked on his game against the pacers. I feel bad for the kid, he is only 25. He doesn’t deserve to be trolled like this," he added. Ahead of Pakistan's first match of the World Cup, a video went viral on social media, showing Babar having a go at Azam during one of the training sessions. A section of the internet believed that Babar called Azam a 'Gainda' (slang for overweight people in subcontinent), while another section thought that it was some other innocuous Punjabi slang. Also read | T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan dealt huge blow before India contest as Imad Wasim is ruled out of USA clash 'Written all these things' Azam, who is the son of former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan, has previously revealed that abuse regarding his physique and connections have been a constant in his life. “Parchi, aloo, mota, sifarshi, nepotism, gainda, baby elephant.. I have written all these things on a poster in my room, and every day before going to the training I look at them and it gives me the extra confidence to do well,” Azam had revealed on Tabish Hashmi’s show ‘Hasna Mana hai’. Azam has been donning the wicketkeeping gloves despite captain Babar Azam having Mohammad Rizwan in the squad. In the last two World Cup editions, Rizwan has been the first pick for the men-in-green, however, the team management have preferred Azam for this year's marquee tournament. Pakistan will square off against hosts USA in their opening match of the tournament in their pursuit of the first T20 World Cup title in 15 years. They were runners-up in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup and the losing semifinalists in the 2021 edition in the UAE and Oman. The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is underway in the West Indies and the USA. Rohit Sharma-led India kick off their campaign on June 5 versus Ireland, in New York. Notably, there are as many as six players making their debut for India, from the 15-man squad, at the marquee tournament. Here is a look at the debutant players.

Ind vs Pak: Most runs for India vs Pakistan in T20 World Cup matches

Ahead of their marquee encounter versus India at the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Pakistan cricket team has landed itself in trouble. Before their T20 WC opener, where they face USA on June 6 in Dallas, Babar Azam &amp; Co. is said to have hosted a dinner party for fans in the USA. Apparently, the fans were invited for a 'meet and greet' session with the Pakistani players. However, the invite wasn't&nbsp;free and fans were said to have been charged&nbsp;$25 (INR 2,000 approx).

Thus, this has not been well received by the Pakistan cricket fraternity. Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-captain Rashid Latif was left fuming and he took to social media to make the shocking claims. He further highlighted that the programme was organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and players.

On social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Latif posted a video and claimed that the fans were charged for the 'meet and greet' session. "There are official dinners, but this is a private dinner. Who can do this? It's terrible. That means you met our players in 25 dollars. God forbid, had there been a mess, people would have said boys are earning money," Latif said in the video.&nbsp;

T20 WC: Before India clash, Pakistan players SLAMMED for charging fans for a private dinner

Pakistan have been dealt a huge blow for their T20 World Cup opener&nbsp;after star bowler Imad Wasim was ruled out of the clash against USA with a side strain. Skipper Babar Azam shed light on the matter and felt for Wasim who recently announced his return to international cricket. Babar also stated that Wasim could be available for upcoming fixtures, including the high-voltage clash against India on Sunday. Pakistan will play against the co-host of the T20 World Cup on Thursday (June 6) before clashing with India.

<h2>Wasim out of USA clash</h2>

"Imad Wasim is experiencing a side strain. It unfortunately means that he won't be available for our opening match. While Imad will miss the first game, we are hopeful that he will join the team in the remaining fixtures," Babar Azam said.

While nothing is serious according to reports, Wasim will be rested for the clash in Dallas and has avoided training in the build-up to the USA clash. He along with Mohammad Amir were named in the 15-man Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup after a series of good performances. In Wasim’s absence, Shaheen Shah Afridi will have to take added responsibility as the frontline bowler in the team.

Considering his all-round ability, his absence will come as a huge blow for Pakistan who are seeking to win their first T20 World Cup title in 15 years. They were runners-up in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup and the losing semifinalists in the 2021 edition in the UAE and Oman.

IND vs IRE, T20 World Cup 2024, Pitch & Weather Report: What are the chances of rain in New York?

As India get ready to face Ireland in the T20 World Cup on Wednesday (June 5), skipper Rohit Sharma praised&nbsp;coach Rahul Dravid as he takes charge of his final assignment for the national team. Dravid, who confirmed his desire to leave the role of India’s head coach after the T20 World Cup, has enjoyed a successful spell in charge but one that did not end the nation’s ICC trophy hunt. Skipper Rohit on Tuesday revealed that he tried&nbsp; to convince Dravid to stay in charge.

<h2>Tried convincing Dravid</h2>

"I tried convincing him to stay but I think there are a lot of things that he needs to look after. I personally enjoyed my time with him. I'm sure the rest of the guys will say the same. It's been great working with him and I hope I'm not going to say anything (more)," Rohit said while speaking to the media on Tuesday evening.

"Look, my equation with him goes a long way, a long way back from the time he came to do this job. Actually, he was my first international captain when I made my debut in Ireland," Rohit said.

Dravid has enjoyed a successful stint in charge of the Indian side after taking over from Ravi Shastri in 2021. He led India to Test series wins over England while also helping them reach the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in other significant achievements. His contract ended during the 2023 ODI World Cup where India finished runners-up. His finest achievement was taking&nbsp;India to the final of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship where his men fell short to Australia on both occasions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to extend Dravid’s stay at least until the T20 World Cup. However, Dravid on Monday stated that he won’t be reapplying for the role and will leave after the end of his current stint.

India will be in action on Wednesday evening for the first time in the T20 World Cup in New York when they face Ireland. The 2007 champions will field a strong team and are likely to include Virat Kohli for the first time on the tour. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya will also feature alongside skipper Rohit in the match. The match will start at 8:00 pm IST with the toss taking place at 7:30 pm IST.

T20 World Cup 2024: Tried to convince Rahul Dravid to stay on as coach, says Rohit Sharma ahead of Ireland tie

South Africa's Anrich Nortje took a remarkable four wickets for just seven runs as the Proteas dismissed Sri Lanka for a record low 77 on their way to a six-wicket win in the teams' T20 World Cup opener in New York on Monday.

Sri Lanka's total was their lowest in all T20 cricket, with fast bowler Nortje's figures the best by a South African at a T20 World Cup, surpassing his own 4-10 against Bangladesh in Sydney two years ago.

Kagiso Rabada (2-21) and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, who took two wickets in two balls on his way to 2-22, also damaged Sri Lanka's cause.

Opener Kusal Mendis (19) and veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews (16) were the only Sri Lanka batsmen to cross 15 after their captain, Wanindu Hasaranga, seemingly misread conditions by opting to bat first after winning the toss in what was the first match at a Long Island ground built specially for this tournament.

But South Africa too lost early wickets in their chase as their top order also struggled to time the ball on a pitch that was difficult for batting.

They were 23-2 early in their reply but opener Quinton de Kock made 20 before, with the Proteas wobbling at 58-4, the big-hitting Heinrich Klaasen struck a six and a four off successive deliveries to ease his side's nerves.

Klaasen was 19 not out as South Africa finished on 80-4 with 26 balls to spare.

South Africa fast bowler Ottneil Baartman, making his World Cup debut, sparked Sri Lanka's&nbsp;collapse when, with his first ball, he had Pathum Nissanka caught in the deep before Nortje dismissed Kamindu Mendis in similar fashion.

Maharaj then struck twice in the ninth over as both the advancing Hasaranga, stumped by De Kock and Sadeera Samarawickrama, clean bowled by a quicker delivery, fell for nought to leave Sri Lanka 32-4 before Charith Asalanka survived the hat-trick ball.

Nortje returned to dismiss Mathews in his last over.

Sri Lanka were bowled out with five balls left when last man Nuwan Thushara was run out for one of four ducks in the innings.&nbsp;

Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed his exit from the side as the ongoing T20 World Cup will be his last assignment. Dravid, who took charge of the Indian side in November 2021 led India to the final of the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship but will now step away from his role. Dravid will look to bow out on a high as India aim for their first T20 World Cup title in 17 years as they enter the tournament as one of the favourites.

<h2>Dravid to bid farewell</h2>

"Every tournament is important," Dravid said. "Every game that I've coached for India has been very important for me. For me, this is no different just because it is going to be the last one that I'm in charge of. I love doing the job. I've really enjoyed coaching India, and I think it's a truly special job to do. I've enjoyed working with this team, and it's a great bunch of boys to work with.”

"Unfortunately, just the kind of schedules [that are in place in international cricket] and where I find myself in this stage in my life, I don't think I'll be able to re-apply,” Dravid added.

Dravid will look to bow out on a high as India aim for their first T20 World Cup title in 17 years as they enter the tournament as one of the favourites. Dravid to bid farewell "Every tournament is important," Dravid said. "Every game that I've coached for India has been very important for me. For me, this is no different just because it is going to be the last one that I'm in charge of. I love doing the job. I've really enjoyed coaching India, and I think it's a truly special job to do. I've enjoyed working with this team, and it's a great bunch of boys to work with.” "Unfortunately, just the kind of schedules [that are in place in international cricket] and where I find myself in this stage in my life, I don't think I'll be able to re-apply,” Dravid added. Dravid has enjoyed a successful stint in charge of the Indian side after taking over from Ravi Shastri in 2021. He led India to Test series wins over England while also helping them reach the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in other significant achievements. His contract came to an end at the 2023 ODI World Cup where India finished runners-up to Australia. However, Dravid has now stated that he won’t be reapplying for the role and will leave after the end of his current stint. India will start their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on Wednesday (June 5) while they face Pakistan in their second match on June 9. All of India’s group stage matches will take place in New York and will also face Canada and co-hosts United States.

Afghanistan produced a dominant bowling and batting performance to thrash debutants Uganda by 125 runs in the T20 World Cup in Guyana on Monday.

Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran laid the foundations for the win with an opening stand of 154 in Afghanistan's 183-5.

Left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi dazzled with five wickets for just nine runs as Uganda were skittled for 58 in 16 overs.

"It was the kind of start we wanted as a team," Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan said.&nbsp;

"It does not matter who we play, it is about the mindset.&nbsp;

"The hard work we have done in the last few weeks, the way the openers started and the way our bowlers bowled -- it was a great overall team effort."

Afghanistan had looked poised for a massive total after Gurbaz's 76 off 45 balls which included four fours and four sixes.

Zadran was in similarly swashbuckling form, blasting 70 off 46 deliveries including nine fours and a six.

Gurbaz and Zadran's opening partnership was the second highest in men's T20 World Cup history, beaten only by the 170 by England's Jos Buttler and Alex Hales in 2022.

But when Gurbaz and Zadran fell in the space of four balls, Uganda were able to peg back Afghanistan.

Masaba claimed a piece of cricket history for the East African nation after taking his country's first ever World Cup wicket, bowling Zadran in the 15th over to leave the score at 154-1.

Alpesh Ramjani then removed Gurbaz, who was caught by Riazat Ali Shah at deep square leg for 76.

Masaba claimed his second wicket, getting rid of Najibullah Zadran, who was caught at deep square leg by Dinesh Nakrani.

Cosmas Kyewuta took the other two wickets.

Any hopes that Uganda's bowling fightback would spill into their innings were snuffed out by Fazalhaq in the first over.

After Uganda opener Ronak Patel creamed a four off Fazalhaq's first ball, the Afghan bowler hit back with two wickets with his next two deliveries, removing Patel and Roger Mukasa, to leave the Africans reeling at 4-2.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman then had Simon Ssesazi caught by Fazalhaq off a top edge for four as Uganda slumped to 8-3.

The wickets continued to tumble and Uganda were soon 18-5 in the fifth over.&nbsp;

Fazalhaq took the wickets of Masaba and Robinson Obuya, both caught behind, to complete his five-wicket haul before skipper Khan mopped up the tail by dismissing Bilal Hassan lbw and bowling Hendry Ssenyondo.&nbsp;

Uganda skipper Masaba took positives from his team's T20 World Cup debut, despite the heavy defeat.

"Pretty special moment for us, hearing our national anthem and seeing our flag at the World Cup," Masaba said.&nbsp;

"Something I will cherish for the rest of my life.&nbsp;

"First game at the World Cup, lot of nerves. Good to get that out of the way. We will look to come out and play better next game."

Earlier this year, Vihari alleged that&nbsp;political interference was the reason for his dismissal as the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team captain. After being removed from the post in an unceremonious manner, Vihari sought&nbsp;an NOC from the board which&nbsp;is required by a player looking to switch associations.

Prior to&nbsp;the NOC request, ACA had served a show-cause notice to Vihari and urged him to come to the board with his grievances.

After Andhra crashed out of the Ranji Trophy, Vihari said he would "never play for Andhra" again.&nbsp;In an Instagram post, Vihari revealed that he was asked to step down from&nbsp;captaincy after a complaint was launched against him.

The said complaint came after the 17th man in the Andhra squad approached his father, a politician, as he was not happy with the behaviour of Vihari.&nbsp;According to&nbsp;reports,&nbsp;KN Prudhuvi Raj was the 17th player who filed the complaint.

"I never said anything on a personal note to the player, but the association thought the player was more important than the guy who gave his body on the line last year and batted left-handed, took Andhra to the knockouts five times in the last seven years and played for India in 16 Tests," wrote Vihari.&nbsp;

The ACA at the time said a reported issue had come to its attention wherein Vihari had&nbsp;verbally abused a specific player during the Bengal Ranji game in front of everyone. The affected player was the one who filed the complaint.&nbsp;
