Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has come up with a bold suggestion for the World Test Championship (WTC) final setup as his side prepares for the limited-overs series against Scotland and England. Lyon, a member of the Australian side that won the 2023 WTC final, suggested that the final should be played over three matches and that too at different venues to counter the setbacks. The WTC final in the current format is a one-off final, which has taken place in England for the previous editions and will be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2025.

<h2>Lyon comes up with bold suggestion for the WTC final</h2>

“One thing I would like to see. I'd like to see the World Test Championship Final, potentially in a three-match series. That may become a little bit better because you, potentially, can lose using a Test match in one session where [in a three-match series] it may allow teams to bounce back, you show their dominance and win 3-0. We're pretty time-poor anyway and that's going to be a challenge, but that's one thing I would change," Lyon said while speaking on Wednesday.

Currently, the WTC serves as the biggest Test event on the International Cricket Council (ICC) calendar. However, with the one-off final taking place, the margin for error is less for the teams, which doesn’t allow them&nbsp;to make a comeback. India has been the losing finalist, having lost both finals to New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023).

While the topic remains a point of debate, the dates for the 2025 WTC final were announced on Tuesday. The 2025 WTC final will be played from June 11 to June 15 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London.

ICC Test Rankings: Pakistan tumble to ninth spot, hit 59-year low after series loss to Bangladesh

On Tuesday (Sep 3), Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the second and final Test, in Rawalpindi, to inflict a humiliating series whitewash over the hosts. The Bangla Tigers had won the series opener, also in Rawalpindi, by ten wickets before making it 2-0 in the finale. With this, Test captain Shan Masood is under severe pressure, having lost all five games as captain since taking over the red-ball side. However, Masood brushed aside concerns of 'job security' after the Bangladesh series defeat.

If I believe this team can go in a certain direction, even if my personal failure takes Pakistan in that direction, I will be content. However much time I get I'll be grateful for and do my best."

Masood took over from Babar Azam before Pakistan's tour of Australia last year, where they were whitewashed 3-0. Thus, he has yet to win a Test as captain.

Masood further explained how&nbsp;Pakistan can bounce back in Tests, saying they need to play more games and cannot turn up for red-ball challenge after playing T20Is.

<h2>'You can't prepare for science and then sit a maths exam'</h2>

He pointed out, "Bangladesh have two players who have played 70-90 Tests (Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahman), and Litton [Das] and Mehidy [Hasan Miraz] have played close to 40. We need the same level of red-ball exposure. Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game. You need experience. It's obvious we need more Test and red-ball cricket. Whatever format you play is the format for which you'll produce players."

Masood signed off by lauding Bangladesh following their 2-0 win. He concluded, "We have to respect the opposition and Bangladesh's discipline was superior to ours in both Tests. England Test coach Brendon McCullum has been named their white-ball coach as well, making him the first all-format coach of England since his Test predecessor Chris Silverwood. McCullum's appointment comes after the sacking of white-ball coach Matthew Mott under whom England failed to defend their 50-over and 20-over World Cup titles.

McCullum will start his twin role from January 2025. Interim white-ball head coach Marcus Trescothick will fulfil his role during the upcoming Australia series as well as the Caribbean tour in November as well.

McCullum had shown little to no interest in the role earlier, given the hectic schedule of England. He, however, took the job after assurance from director of men's cricket Rob Key.

"Rob Key's vision for the future of English cricket is something that really resonated with me. WTC 2023/25 final to be held at Lord's from June 11-15, confirms ICC

Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in 2014-15, when they hosted India in a four-match Test series. Ahead of the 2024/25 BG Trophy at home, Test captain Pat Cummins feels 'it will be 50-50' between arch-rivals India and Australia. The pacer is, however, desperate for Australia to 'make amends' this time around after the past mistakes in the last few BG series.&nbsp;

Cummins told Star Sports, "The most recent Test match was, of course, the World Test Championship in neutral conditions, and we came out on top in that match. It's always fiercely competitive, and it always feels like it's 50-50. I'm 10 out of 10 excited for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy."

The onus is on Australia as they have lost their last two Test home series versus India, and also lost an equal number of series on Indian soil since their last won the trophy in 2014-15.

In this regard, Cummins said, "The last two series here in Australia, we haven't been successful, so it's been a long time. Hopefully, it's time to make amends. You know, we've played them plenty of times where they've beaten us, but we've also had plenty of wins against them as well, which we'll draw confidence from."

India pacer Mohammed Shami was recently asked how does he keep himself motivated when not picked in the playing XI. The question was in reference to Shami not playing first few games in the ODI World Cup last year but ending&nbsp;as the highest wicket-taker once slotted in for injured Hardik Pandya.

“I'm habitual to it, I think,” Shami said at the recently concluded CEAT awards and the clip of his conversation with the host has been shared by Star Sports on social media platform X.

“In 2015, 2019, and 2023, I had the same start. When I was given a chance, the performances, thanks to god, they never thought of dropping me again. You can call it hard work, but I'm always ready for a chance. Only when you're ready can you prove yourself. Otherwise, I can only run to the field to give water! It's better to seize the opportunity when you get it,” he added.

Shami took 24 wickets in just seven games he played in the home World Cup but India ended up losing the final to Australia. Shami produced the best figures by an Indian bowler in ODIs as he took 7/57 against New Zealand in the semi-final.

The pacer hasn't played any cricket since then and is recovering from an ankle injury. He's expected to make a return during the home Test series against New Zealand, which takes place after two Tests against Bangladesh at home.

After hosting the Kiwis, India travel&nbsp;to Australia for the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series and Shami's fitness will play an important role in deciding whether India will win their third consecutive Test series down under or not.

After the embarrassing defeat, home captain Masood said, "Extremely disappointed, we were excited for the home season. The story has been the same as Australia, we have not learnt our lessons. We taught we were playing good cricket in Australia but not doing the job, that's something we need to work on. It has happened 4 times in my tenure that we have left the team back into the contest when we were dominating."

Meanwhile, a jubilant Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto said, "Means a lot, can't express in words. Really happy. We were looking to win here and very happy with the way everyone has done their job. Very impressive, the work ethic of our pacers was great and that's why we got the result. Everyone is honest with themselves and they want to win, I hope they continue."

Updated ICC World Test Championship points table after Bangladesh whitewash Pakistan

Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood says that they have to get their fitness better in order to compete in the red-ball cricket. The comments come as Pakistan lost both the Tests against Bangladesh at home. Pakistan lost the first Test by 10 wickets and the second by six wickets, losing the series 2-0.

"The harsh realities are that as a Test-playing nation, we need to get fitter. We need to have that mental and physical ability to last five days. And to last a series, which can be 10 to 15 days. So, that's the challenge that we have a month now before England, and once we get to England, it's going to be a really busy season domestically and internationally. So the boys have to pull their socks up and come back with their best," said the skipper after loss in second Test on Tuesday (Sep 3).

Pakistan, after losing the first Test, dropped Nasim Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi for the second Test and were criticised for the decision.

"We can't be harsh on them because they're playing all three formats. If Shaheen has played consistently for a year, you can't just throw them in every game. And you have to build up your stocks as well. So we've got a lot to look at," said Masood.&nbsp;

Masood also acknowledged the team's failure but said that they are 'heading in&nbsp;the right direction.'

"You always learn from your mistakes. And you try and give people a chance. And I think that we're heading in the right direction; we have been consistent with selection. We had Khurram, Muhammad Ali Daisy, and Mir Hamza play this test series. We went, uh, trying to keep consistency with red ball performances as well. We've got Shaheen and Nasim back in the fold as well," said Masood.

With just a draw required to win the series, Bangladesh went one step better as they won the match by six wickets. Having been struggling at&nbsp;26/6 at one stage in the first innings, Bangladesh did well to get back into the match as they only trailed by 12 runs. Pakistan, however, were brought down to their knees in the second innings and were bowled out for 172 runs, setting a 185-run target for the visitors to win.

The target was chased with ease as all batters contributed to help their side to a historic win on Pakistan soil. Zakir Hasan (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (38), and Mominul Haque (34) were the pick of the batters for Bangladesh. Earlier, Liton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) built a 175-run stand in the first innings to help their side come back into the contest.

PAK vs BAN: Bangladesh humiliate hosts Pakistan with series whitewash, win Rawalpindi Test

Virat Kohli retired from T20Is after Rohit Sharma-led India's 2024 T20 World Cup win. He remains one of India's key batters in Tests and ODIs. In Tests, the right-hander has&nbsp;8,848 runs&nbsp;from 113 matches and is expected to join the elite 10,000-run club soon. Recently, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh recalled India's tour of West Indies, in 2011, where Kohli&nbsp;made his Test debut and had a forgettable run. Harbhajan, who ended with 417 scalps in 103 Tests, fourth-most for India, recalled how he motivated a young Kohli.

During the Windies tour, which came soon after MS Dhoni-led India's 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at home, Kohli was given a chance in whites in the absence of seniors. He, however, managed only 76 runs in five innings, at an average of 15.20, and doubted himself after his debut&nbsp;red-ball series. Then, Bhajji -- who had more runs than Kohli (98) in the WI Tests -- came to his rescue and motivated the right-handed batter.&nbsp;

<h2>'You should score&nbsp;10,000 runs in Tests, if you don't, it'll be because of your own fault'</h2>

Speaking on Taruwar Kohli's&nbsp;podcast, Bhajji said, "If I tell you something about his Test cricket, at the very beginning. We were in West Indies. On that tour, Fidel Edwards (former West Indies quick) had troubled him a lot, getting him out either LBW or against the short ball. He was getting out time and again, so obviously was very disappointed. He had self-doubt, questioned, 'If I am good enough?' I told him, 'You will shame yourself if you don't score 10,000 runs. You have the capability of scoring 10,000 runs in Test cricket. And if you don't, it'll be because of your own fault'. After that, what Kohli has done is a once-in-a-lifetime exception."

Since Kohli's initial years in international cricket, he has come a long&nbsp;way. While he is close to the 10K-run club in Tests, the former Indian captain has 13,906&nbsp;and 4,136 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively. He signed off from T20Is as&nbsp;the second-highest run-getter, has won both the ODI and T20 WC, Champions Trophy (in 2013), and led India to their maiden Test series win on Australian soil. Moreover, he changed the face of Indian cricket with his fitness regime and remains one of the fittest athletes of the country, even at 35.

Bhajji added on Kohli, "I have seen him change. His diet, his mindset – 'That I don't want to be just an ordinary player. I want to be someone who people will know for a long time'. The stubbornness I saw in myself, Kohli has a lot more of it. I want to be that guy winning games and scoring hundreds for India. He was scoring hundreds back-to-back in Australia. It was the first time India chasing 400 runs (talking about the Adelaide Test in 2014)… and they are going after it. We may lose but we'll fight. That attitude of 'keep going', that's what makes you a player. Kohli has left an everlasting impact on Indian cricket."

Kohli will be back in action when India hosts Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, starting on Sep 19 in Chennai. He was last seen on the 22-yard cricket strip during India's ODI series versus Sri Lanka, in the Island nation, in August.

Virat Kohli retired from T20Is after Rohit Sharma-led India's 2024 T20 World Cup win. He remains one of India's key batters in Tests and ODIs. In Tests, the right-hander has 8,848 runs from 113 matches and is expected to join the elite 10,000-run club soon.

In Tests, the right-hander has 8,848 runs from 113 matches and is expected to join the elite 10,000-run club soon. Recently, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh recalled India's tour of West Indies, in 2011, where Kohli made his Test debut and had a forgettable run. Harbhajan, who ended with 417 scalps in 103 Tests, fourth-most for India, recalled how he motivated a young Kohli. During the Windies tour, which came soon after MS Dhoni-led India's 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at home, Kohli was given a chance in whites in the absence of seniors. He, however, managed only 76 runs in five innings, at an average of 15.20, and doubted himself after his debut red-ball series. Then, Bhajji -- who had more runs than Kohli (98) in the WI Tests -- came to his rescue and motivated the right-handed batter. 'You should score 10,000 runs in Tests, if you don't, it'll be because of your own fault' Speaking on Taruwar Kohli's podcast, Bhajji said, "If I tell you something about his Test cricket, at the very beginning. After that, what Kohli has done is a once-in-a-lifetime exception." While he is close to the 10K-run club in Tests, the former Indian captain has 13,906 and 4,136 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively. He signed off from T20Is as the second-highest run-getter, has won both the ODI and T20 WC, Champions Trophy (in 2013), and led India to their maiden Test series win on Australian soil. After the 2024 T20 World Cup, Australia will return to action in international cricket with a three-match T20I series versus Scotland. This will be a dress rehearsal for the one-time T20 WC winners before their white-ball tour of England, which follows soon after the Scotland trip. Prior to this, both Scotland and Australia have met each other only once in T20Is, during this year's T20 WC in West Indies and the USA in June.

In the mega event, Australia and Scotland were placed in Group B, along with England, Oman&nbsp;and Namibia. The two clashed on June 16 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. Asked to bat first, Scotland rode on&nbsp;opener George Munsey's 35, Brandon McMullen's 60 and captain Richie Berrington's 42, respectively, to post a challenging 180 for 5. In reply, Scotland reduced Australia to 60-3. While Travis Head made 68, his side had a lot to do in the latter half of the run-chase. Marcus Stoinis (59) and Tim David (14-ball 24*), however, stood tall to take their side past the finish line by five wickets, and two balls to spare.

It will be interesting to see if Scotland challenges Mitchell Marsh-led Australia this time around as well. For the Scotland series, Australia have rested the likes of Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc. The former will not be part of the England tour too but Maxwell and Starc will return.

The first T20I will be held on Sep 4, followed by the second and penultimate game on Sep 6 and the third T20I on Sep 7. All the games will be held in Edinburgh.

England are set to host Australia in three T20Is and five ODIs before the end of the 2024 English summer. Ahead of the white-ball series versus arch-rivals Australia, England skipper Jos Buttler remains a doubtful starter with a calf injury. Buttler suffered the injury while preparing for The Hundred, which ended&nbsp;in the United Kingdom last month. The white-ball captain, thus, got ruled out of the entire tournament -- where he was set to represent the Manchester Originals -- and is still in the recovery process.&nbsp;

Lancashire Lightning coach Dale Benkenstein informed, while talking to the BBC, that Buttler reaggravated his calf injury during rehabilitation, ruling him out of the side's upcoming T20 Blast quarterfinal clash versus Sussex Sharks, on Sep&nbsp;4. The latest setback has dented the wicketkeeper-batter's recovery ahead of the Australia series.

Benkenstein said, "We've had some bad news on his recovery...He had an injury he was recovering from, and he's sort of tweaked it again. He's not only just out of our T20s, but I think he's even struggling to make the international ones. He was very keen to play for us."

There is still time for the Australia home series. Hence, England team management is not fretting over Buttler's return but would hope for him to regain full fitness sooner rather than later, with the 2025 Champions Trophy in mind. The Australia series commences with the three T20Is, with the series opener on Sep 12. In case Buttler remains out of the series, Phil Salt and Sam Curran are reportedly the main contenders to lead England.&nbsp;

Buttler was last seen in action at the highest level during the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in the West Indies and the USA. Buttler-led England reached the semifinals, where they were thrashed by eventual winners India.&nbsp;

Pakistan Test team coach Jason Gillespie has admitted that Bangladesh are on top to win the second ongoing Test in Rawalpindi. Requiring 185 to win, Bangladesh were 42/0 at the close of play on day 4 (Monday, Sep 2) with one whole day left to get the remaining runs.

"Admittedly, the odds are probably in favour of Bangladesh," said Gillespie at the press conference after close of play on day 4.&nbsp;

Pakistan gave away advantage twice during the second Test, first when they were 107/1 in the first innings but were bowled out for 274 and second time when they allowed Bangladesh to score 262 in the first innings despite having them on the ropes at 26/6.

"We don't shy away from that, but we've already lost if we walk out there expecting to lose. We took 6 for 26 in the first innings so we know that we can have an impact with the ball if we bowl really well," the coach added.

Gillespie said that the bowlers need to make their execution right as they did in the first innings.

"We've spoken to our bowlers about being ruthless, being disciplined and bowling with intent," Gillespie said.&nbsp;

"And we just went away from our game plan and I've challenged the bowlers pretty strongly on that. We need to make sure that we're on each and every time, because Test cricket can get away from you. The opposition is very good and I'm not going to shy away from saying Bangladesh played well. No question. But I know that our bowlers can do better in that situation than what they showed and we just need to make sure that execution is absolutely bang on each and every time," he added.

Bangladesh won the first Test at the same venue by 10 wickets - their first Test win over Pakistan. If they manage to win the win the second Test as well, which seems as very real result, it'll be their first and historic Test series win for them.

England's stand-in skipper Ollie Pope has played down the criticism by former cricketers including Michael Vaughan on his batting performance in the first two Tests against Sri Lanka.

Pope has managed just 30 runs across four innings of the first two Tests but England managed to win both the matches to take a unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

"I'm not surprised," he said after the series clinching victory at the Lord's in the second Test on Sunday (Sep 1).

"Chatting to Stokesy before this series, when you're captain as well, you're going to attract a lot more [criticism]. To be honest, it is just important to block it out and keep staying close with the people around you. There's a lot of voices, a lot of guys who want to have their say - some past cricketers as well - and that's completely fine," he added.

Pope was named captain after England's regular Test skipper Ben Stokes got injured leading into the series while playing in the Hundred tournament.

Vaughan was not impressed with Pope at all and had said that Pope is "an insecure human being" and "not the kind of personality" who should lead England.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it's important for us as a team and me to stay and keep trusting the people in the four walls, because that's not going to help me get back into my best form. Sometimes, when you have two bad games, it can feel a lot worse than it is because of the noise that's surrounding it," said Pope in response.

"For me, it's just trying to stay as level as I can and keep on trusting the people around me, putting my work in, and not really overthinking it, to be honest. When I went and made good runs in that West Indies series, that's exactly what I was playing like, so there's no real need for me to get too involved in what people are saying."

Stokes is expected to be back for the next England Test series while Pope will be leading them in last Test against Sri Lanka which starts Friday (Sep 6).

India's latest pace sensation Mayank Yadav rose to stardom with his 156 km/h rockets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The pacer, however, got injured during the tournament and has not played in any competitive cricket ever since.

Mayank is currently under rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and was not selected for upcoming domestic Duleep Trophy. His Sonnet Club coach Devendra Sharma, who had mentored the bowler for years, shared an update regarding the fitness.&nbsp;

“Like in the morning, he is made to bowl, followed by rehab session and exercise routine. After this, he again does his bowling in the nets. All of this is something which he is doing there on a daily basis, as per what he told me,” said Devendra on his NCA schedule, as reported by news agency IANS.

“He bowls eight-ten overs daily, and I did ask him why he wasn’t named in Duleep Trophy squads. To this, Mayank replied, ‘Sir, I have been told not to go into it as I can’t put too much load on my body and concentrate on white-ball cricket for now’,” Devendra added.

Mayank is expected to reach highs of bowling shall he remain injury-free—something which he has found difficult so far.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also realises Mayank's potential and has included him in the list of players with bowling contract.

Under this contract, Mayank, alongside all other names, will be placed under NCA's Sports Science and Medical team’s supervision, which will take care of his injury management and fitness programme.

The other bowlers who have a bowling contract from BCCI apart from Mayank are: Umran Malik, Akash Deep, Tushar Deshpande, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.

'Told not to go...,' pacer Mayank Yadav reveals reason behind not playing Duleep Trophy

Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin highlighted the major difference in captaincy of Rohit Sharma compared to his predecessors Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. After seniors such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly stepped aside, in the mid-2000s, Dhoni took over as the all-format captain before he passed the baton to Kohli. After Kohli, Rohit took over the reins and remains the Test and ODI captain to date. Under all three, India reached great&nbsp;heights. Ashwin, who made his international debut during Dhoni's captaincy era and has played the majority of his cricket under him, Kohli&nbsp;and Rohit, shared the captaincy difference between the three.

<h2>'Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on tactics'</h2>

In a recent interaction on Vimal Kumar's YouTube show, Ashwin was quizzed about the captaincy styles of the famed trio. Ashwin, a veteran of 100 Tests with 516 scalps in whites, stated, "2-3 things are nice about Rohit's captaincy. He always keep the environment of the team light. He makes an effort to keep it light. And he stays very balanced and tactically, he is strong. Both Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on the tactics."

Ashwin further opined on Rohit, "If there is any big match or series coming up, Rohit sits with the analytics team and coach and prepares for it, like what's the weakness of a particular batsman, what's the plan of a bowler. That's his strength but he always keeps the environment of the team light and backs the players." He added, "If he selects a player in the XI, he backs them 100%. I have played most of my career with these three captains."

Rohit became the T20I captain in late 2021, succeeding Kohli,&nbsp;before being appointed the all-format captain in early 2022. Under him, India have won the 2023 Asia Cup (ODIs) and the 2024 T20 World Cup and ended as runners-up in the 2021-23 WTC cycle and 2023 ODI World Cup at home.&nbsp;

Talking about Dhoni, he led India to all three ICC titles (2007 T20 WC, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy). Under him, India became a confident white-ball unit but kept falling flat in overseas Tests. His successor Kohli changed India's fortunes, making them fearless travellers and also leading them to the No. 1 position in the ICC Test Rankings. Under all three, India reached great heights. Ashwin, who made his international debut during Dhoni's captaincy era and has played the majority of his cricket under him, Kohli and Rohit, shared the captaincy difference between the three. 'Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on tactics' In a recent interaction on Vimal Kumar's YouTube show, Ashwin was quizzed about the captaincy styles of the famed trio. Ashwin, a veteran of 100 Tests with 516 scalps in whites, stated, "2-3 things are nice about Rohit's captaincy. He always keep the environment of the team light. He makes an effort to keep it light. And he stays very balanced and tactically, he is strong. Both Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on the tactics." Also read: Yuvraj deserves Bharat Ratna, Dhoni ruined his career: Yograj's scathing attack on former Indian captain Ashwin further opined on Rohit, "If there is any big match or series coming up, Rohit sits with the analytics team and coach and prepares for it, like what's the weakness of a particular batsman, what's the plan of a bowler. That's his strength but he always keeps the environment of the team light and backs the players." He added, "If he selects a player in the XI, he backs them 100%. I have played most of my career with these three captains." Rohit became the T20I captain in late 2021, succeeding Kohli, before being appointed the all-format captain in early 2022. Under him, India have won the 2023 Asia Cup (ODIs) and the 2024 T20 World Cup and ended as runners-up in the 2021-23 WTC cycle and 2023 ODI World Cup at home. Thus, these three have been standout captains in Indian cricket.

Former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim opened up on Babar Azam and slammed the right-handed batter. Wasim, who served as the chief selector during the star batter's captaincy era from 2020-2022, stated that Babar was 'very stubborn'&nbsp;and got upset whenever the selection committee made changes to the squad. However, Wasim revealed, more often than not, he had to step in to make him accept the changes.

He further added,&nbsp;"I will not take names, but four coaches said that a group of players is cancer to the team. If they are part of the squad, Pakistan can’t win. I tried to remove them from the team, but the team management recalled them."

Babar was named Pakistan's T20I captain in 2020 before he became the all-format skipper later that year. While he had a good start to his captaincy career, it went downhill from 2022. Under him, Pakistan failed to win the Asia Cup 2022 (T20Is) and the T20 World Cup, ending as the finalists on both occasions and failed to even reach the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India. After the mega event, he stepped down as the all-format skipper before Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reappointed him as the white-ball captain before this year's T20 WC.

Under Babar, Pakistan failed to make it to the Super 8s of the 2024 T20 WC, eventually won by Team India. At present, his white-ball captaincy future isn't certain.

Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has backed the pairing of Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan to succeed middle-order batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. India will face the Aussies Down Under with the five-match series starting on November 22 in Perth. According to Karthik, India can bank on the services of Sarfaraz and Gill while the duo of Rahane and Pujara are expected to be dropped.

<h2>Karthik backs Gill-Sarfaraz</h2>

“Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan. Both of those batters have done really well against England in the home series that recently happened at the start of the year. I have a feeling both of them will definitely be on that flight to Australia and will be trying to do their best. We will know if they’re able to replace both Ajinkya and Pujji (Pujara). Big shoes to fill, but they have the quality and calibre in them,” Karthik said on HeyCB with DK show on Cricbuzz.

Gill has been one of the consistent performers in the Indian side while Sarfaraz broke into the Indian team recently during the home series against England. Gill was also promoted to the vice-captain’s role recently while Sarfaraz has been in good nick of form in domestic cricket before exploding onto the international scene.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj has launched a fresh attack on MS Dhoni for 'ruining' his son's career. Yograj, who has often slammed Dhoni, feels Yuvraj had more to offer to Team India but his career was cut short by four to five years due to former Indian captain Dhoni. Further, Yograj stated that Yuvraj deserved to be honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, for his services to Indian cricket during his illustrious career.&nbsp;

Talking to the Switch YouTube channel, Yograj said, "I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at himself in the mirror. He is a very prominent cricketer, I salute him. But what he did to my son is unforgivable. Everything is coming to light now, and it can never be forgiven."

He further added on Dhoni, "That man has ruined my son's life, who could have played for four to five more years. I challenge everyone to have a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said that there will never be another Yuvraj Singh.&nbsp;India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing through cancer and winning the World Cup for the country."

Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019 with 1900, 8,701&nbsp;and 1,177 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively, played a key role in Dhoni-led India's victorious run in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup. In the 2011 ODI WC, at home, Yuvraj ended with 362 runs and 15 scalps to be awarded as the Player-of-the-Tournament. He stepped away from international cricket for a while soon after the WC win after being diagnosed with cancer. He overcame the deadly disease and returned to the national side in 2012 but was never able to cement his place in any format.

Moreover, Yuvraj and Dhoni played as many as 273 matches together for India, being the face of India's white-ball formats. They forged a successful pair in the middle-order but reports often surfaced on things not being great between the two when Yuvraj was ousted from the side. However, Yuvraj, in particular, has often rubbished such claims, saying that the two often shared a healthy professional relationship.

With a quarter of the year still left in 2024, Pooran is sure to have his record improved from the current 139 sixes.

Pooran plays in various T20 leagues around the world including the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. He plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL and represents its sister franchise Durban Super Giants in South Africa's SA20.

Pooran also features in the USA's Major League Cricket (MLC) and ILT20, representing IPL franchise Mumbai Indians' subsidiary MI New York and MI Emirates, respectively.

He also plays in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Rangpur Riders and Northern Superchargers in men's The Hundred tournament in England.

As for the match, Pooran's innings helped TKR, sister franchise of IPL's Kolkata Knight Riders, post a huge total of 250/4 in 20 overs. Apart from Pooran, Keacy Carty also played a blinding innings of 35-ball 73.

In reply, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots could score only 206 runs in 20 overs, handing a 44-run win to TKR.

TKR are currently at the top of the six-team tournament with two points in one match, same as Guyana Amazon Warriors and Patriots (two matches). TKR's net run rate is, however, better than rest of the two teams.

They next play against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on September 6.

"You can't guess his sharp mind from his batting. When he's batting, it seems someone is bowling at 120 kmph, but when someone else is batting, the speed seems like 160 kmph. The Indian umpire also added that Rohit plays without any confusion which makes it easy to umpire for him.

"Umpiring for a player like Rohit is very easy; he's either out or not out, it's straightforward with him. He doesn't play confusingly," said Chaudhary.

Under Rohit Sharma, India reached the final of ODI World Cup 2023 and World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle. They, however, lost both the finals to Australia.

In 2024, Rohit-led India went on to win the T20 World Cup, their second in the shortest format after winning the inaugural edition in 2007.

After the final, Rohit announced his retirement from the T20s and so did Virat Kohli &amp; Ravindra Jadeja. Suryakumar Yadav was named India's T20I skipper while Rohit remains the captain of Test and ODI side.

India's next assignment is a two-Test home series against Bangladesh and a three-match Test series against New Zealand after that.

The major series will start in November later this year when India travels to Australia for five-Test Border-Gavaskar series.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that Indian cricket team should not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan are scheduled to host the ICC tournament from February 19 to March 9 next year - their first ICC tournament since jointly hosting ICC World Cup 1996 with India and Sri Lanka.

"What they say is what they think is right while what we say is our point of view. I feel the security concerns are always there and if the security of the players is not ensured there then I don't think that the team should go there," said Singh in a interview to Sports Tak.

"If they say that the teams will get full security and there is no hassle then it's on the government to think and make decisions because in the end, it's not just about cricketing matters and the issue goes beyond. As a cricketer, I can say if you wish to play cricket, play cricket but the security concern is always there and players should not go there until the security is guaranteed," he added.

Recently, former Pak spinner Danish Kaneria also expressed concern on security of Indian team if they travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

"Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai," Kaneria had said.
