<p>Former cricketer-turned-pundit Ambati Rayudu once again had a go at Virat Kohli, days after attacking Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their&nbsp;over-enthusiastic&nbsp;celebrations. Speaking to the host broadcaster after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifted the trophy, Rayudu said Kohli needed to "ease" his standards to&nbsp;nurture&nbsp;other players in the team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The likes of Matthew Hayden and Kevin Pietersen - the other experts in the panel, however, did not agree with Rayudu's assessment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When you have a stalwart or a legend like Virat Kohli, who has set&nbsp;really&nbsp;high standards for the best in the game to match. So, it is&nbsp;very-very&nbsp;hard for youngsters to be in a side like Virat Kohli and&nbsp;really&nbsp;try and match his standards because he wants the team to be at that standard," said Rayudu.</p>

<p>Notably, the former Indian cricketer had slammed RCB after the franchise was knocked out of the tournament by Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator. He also clapped back at the franchise for going overboard in its celebrations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If you talk about RCB today, it shows that only passion and aggressive celebrations don't win you trophies. You need to plan. You didn't get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the same hunger," said Rayudu at the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling coach Bharat Arun has revealed that it was mentor Gautam Gambhir who decided to send Sunil Narine to open the batting this season. Narine was outstanding for KKR, scoring 488 runs in 15 games - the most for them in the 2024 season.</p>

<p>KKR eventually went on to win the title on Sunday (May 26) as they beat SRH by eight wickets in a one-sided final. Arun revealed after the match that Gambhir had decided to send Narine to open.</p>

<p>"He has brought a totally different dimension to our batting this year and it was Gautam who insisted that Sunny open and what Sunny (Narine) did was outstanding," said Arun after KKR won their third title.</p>

<p>Knight Riders had previously won the title in 2012 and 2014 and Gautam Gambhir was their skipper. The former India batter returned to KKR ahead of this season as mentor and the side won their third title in the franchise history.</p>

<p>The tone was set by KKR's Mitchell Starc early after he dismissed SRH's Abhishek Sharma in the first over of the match. Arun praised the Australian - the costliest buy in IPL history at about $3 million - and said that his presence boosted confidence of other young players.</p>

<p>"Mitch coming into the team boosted the confidence of the other youngsters. He has been one of the best bowlers in world cricket and he has been in such situations before, it's about understanding Indian conditions and once he did that, it is magic all over," noted Arun.</p>

<p>As for the match, SRH's batting couldn't get going at all as they succumbed to 113 - the lowest total by a team in IPL final in the history of the league.</p>

<p>KKR made light work of the chase despite losing Narine in the second over itself. Venkatesh Iyer, who scored unbeaten 51, added 91 runs for the second with Rahmanullah Gurbaz as KKR achieved the win in 11th over.</p>

<p>Rajasthan Royals batter Shimron Hetmyer has been penalized by the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his conduct in the second qualifier match against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday (May 24). Hetmyer had smashed the stumps in frustration after getting out as the sixth wicket in the chase of 176.</p>

<p>“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” read the statement from the league on the incident.</p>

<p>“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further read.</p>

<p>Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct deals with the "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing,&nbsp;ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”</p>

<p>As for the match, RR's campaign came to an end as they lost the match by 36 runs. Royals were not in the command of their chase at any point as they kept losing the wickets at regular interval.</p>

<p>Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson also acknowledged his side's shortcoming against SRH in the middle overs and said after the game: "I think we were found short of options in the middle overs against spin, and I think that's where we lost the game."</p>

<p>RR had finished third on the points table with eight wins, five losses and one no result in 14 games.</p>
