What is Sanchar Saathi?

Sanchar Saathi is an integrated citizen-centric initiative by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) which aims to strengthen the security of mobile users or subscribers in the country. The portal is live for nationwide use and was officially unveiled by Telecom Minister Ashiwinin Vaishanv on Tuesday (May 16).&nbsp;

The security portal includes different citizen-centric modules like CEIR and TAFCOP. While the CEIR module&nbsp;enables Sanchar Saathi to let the users block or track their stolen devices, the TAFCOP lets the users check and disconnect mobile connection numbers.&nbsp;

How to use Sanchar Saathi:

Users will be able to track their stolen phones or even&nbsp;block them if any new SIM is inserted, but&nbsp;they&nbsp;first have to file a police complaint on the portal.&nbsp;

How to block a number on the portal?

First, visit the official website of the Sanchar Saathi portal. (<a href="https://ceir.sancharsaathi.gov.in/Home/index.jsp">https:/ceir.sancharsaathi.gov.in</a>). Then enter the respective personal details including mobile phones, IMEI, device brand, and purchase invoice.

Now click on 'lost information.' This includes the place and date where&nbsp;you lost your device and the police complaint number.&nbsp;

Then verify the application by entering the OTP and then this will block the mobile in 24 hours.&nbsp;

How to unblock once&nbsp;you find your phone?

The portal also offers users to unblock their phones if they find them later. To unblock,&nbsp;go to&nbsp;the portal and enter the requested ID you recieved when you blocked the phone, Then enter the mobile number and reason for unblocking.&nbsp;

Verify using the request by entering the OTP and reason. Submit the request and your phone will be unblocked.&nbsp;

A new survey released disturbing facts on Monday (May 15) stating&nbsp;that the earlier a child is given a smartphone, the more the chances of him or her suffering from mental health problems.&nbsp;The study further mentioned that women appear to be more affected.&nbsp;

The research conducted by a US-based non-profit Sapien Labs collected data from some 27,969 adults aged 18 and 24 from over 40 countries, including 4,000 Indians found that young adults who own smartphones as young as six reported more suicidal thoughts, and aggression feelings as adults than those who got phones late, TOI reported.&nbsp;

The study showed as many as 74 per cent of female respondents who received mobiles by the age of six were found experiencing more serious mental health challenges as adults with that come under "distressed" or "struggling" as per the MHQ range. The Mental Health Quotient examines an individual on the basis of six parameters including mood and outlook, social life, cognition, adaptability and resilience, drive and motivation and the mind-body connection.

It added that for those who got smartphones 61 per cent and 52 per cent were experiencing problems who got smartphones at the age of 10 and 15. People who got smartphones at 18, 46 per cent were struggling and distressed in life.&nbsp;

In the case of males, the trend was the same but was a bit less acute. Some 42 per cent of the men who got smartphones at the age of six were struggling and experiencing distress in life. Furthermore, the bar fell to 36 per cent for those who got an electronic device at the age of 18.&nbsp;

These findings come against a backdrop of a progressive global decline in the mental health of the young generation that began around 2010-2014.&nbsp;

McAfee's Global Connected Family study last year stated that 83 per cent of the children used smartphones aged 10-14, which is seven per cent above the international average.&nbsp;

For parents, the findings gave a clear message, "Delay giving your child a smartphone as much as possible- the older the better. That said, the peer pressure is high&nbsp;and it is best if no one has one rather than one child being left out. At the same time, focus on your child's social development-it is fundamentally important for their mental well-being and capability for navigating the world and is what has been displaced by the use of phones."

The assembly election 2023 saw a slight decrease in voter turnout in Udupi as compared to 2018. This year 78.5 per cent voter turnout was registered in Udupi. The Udupi district with five constituencies Byndoor, Kundapura, Kapu and Karkal has recorded almost a five per cent decrease in voter turnout, as in 2018 it was 79.4 per cent. The Byndoor constituency recorded 77.8 per cent, while Kundapur, Kaup and Karkala constituency recorded 78.9 per cent 78.8 per cent and 81.3 per cent respectively.&nbsp;

The Chikmagalur district&nbsp;is one of the key constituencies among 224 seats in the Karnataka Assembly polls 2023. This district is important for BJP as it has been a stronghold of the party for nearly 20 years. In 2018, BJP's CT Ravi won the district seat by defeating rival Congress candidate by a margin of 263,414 votes.
