<p>Watford defender Adrian Mariappa said news that he had tested positive for coronavirus came as a "big surprise" as he has felt no ill effects.</p>

<p>The 33-year-old was one of three positive tests at Watford with the other two among staff members.</p>

<p>The Hornets accounted for half the six COVID-19 cases detected from 748 tests of Premier League players and staff ahead of a return to training in small groups this week.</p>

<p>"Ever since I got my positive result back on Tuesday, I’ve been scratching my head to try to work out how I might have got coronavirus," Mariappa told The Telegraph.</p>

<p>"It was a big surprise because I haven’t really left the house, apart from some exercise and the odd walk with the kids. I’ve mainly just been homeschooling and keeping fit."</p>

<p>Mariappa had been following a fitness programme prepared by the club without any trouble caused by the virus to his breathing.</p>

<p>"I’ve not had any symptoms and I’ve felt as fit as ever, probably fitter because I’ve been working really hard.</p>

<p>"I’ve been following my training programme and I’ve not felt out of breath or ill, or anything.</p>

<p>"We’ve been fully monitored the whole time and the club have been able to track our distances and things. I’ve been really excelling in all of that and feeling great."</p>

<p>Burnley confirmed their assistant manager Ian Woan is also asymptomatic having tested positive for the virus.</p>

<p>Watford captain Troy Deeney has said he will not return to training this week for fear that he could contract COVID-19 and pass it onto his five-month-old son.</p>

<p>Other Watford players are reportedly set to follow Deeney's example, but Mariappa did not rule out returning to training once he was gone through a period of seven days self-isolation.</p>

<p>"I will just follow the protocols and each of the steps, and decide what is right for me each time," he added.</p>

<p>"My focus now is just on isolating for seven days and hopefully testing negative next time."</p>

<p>"There is so much information (to take in) and so many calendar issues. So many millions and millions, dozens of millions of dollars, that we will lose," Ceferin told the Guardian&nbsp;here</p>

<p>“It’s then hard to fall asleep at night. You would be quite irresponsible if you could fall asleep immediately.</p>

<p>“The situation for UEFA is not that alarming, we’re not in a dangerous situation, but we still care about the clubs and the leagues and the stakeholders so it is a lot of work.”</p>

<p>Ceferin said he did not expect football to change once the situation returns to normal but added that Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations could be adapted to the “new times”.</p>

<p>“If they don’t follow the rules they will always be sanctioned, but of course we’re thinking about how we can improve our regulations,” he said.</p>

<p>“This will not happen very soon but we’re thinking of improving (FFP), modernising it and doing something more about the competitive balance. We’re also considering some sort of ‘luxury tax’, if it’s possible.”</p>

<p>The Cricket Committee, led by former India captain Anil Kumble, has recommended a ban on the usage of saliva to shine the ball. However, the players would be allowed to use sweat to shine the ball as the members saw no health hazard as it is not a virus transmitter, as per medical advice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Kumble-led Cricket Committee further recommended local umpires and match referees for international matches as the Decision Review System (DRS) is there to help them out. This step will allow fewer members travelling for a match.</p>

<p>But for clubs, there is a financial necessity given La Liga president Javier Tebas has estimated cancelling the season could cost them 1 billion euros ($1.08 billion).&nbsp;</p>

<p>"People need their dose of football," Adolfo Barbero, a commentator on Movistar, Spain's primary football broadcaster, told AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There is that want for fans to go to matches but for many now, the priority is to play. They want to see 22 guys, a ball and a green pitch, the rest will be for afterwards."&nbsp;</p>

<p>But finishing the remaining 11 rounds of the season and completing European competitions would limit losses to around 303 million euros, a third of the figure contemplated for cancellation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>McIlroy told the McKellar Golf Podcast on Thursday that a more settled life away from the golf course has him feeling "more comfortable in my own skin" and more able to voice opinions.</p>

<p>The 31-year-old from Northern Ireland, who has a home in Florida, has not been impressed with Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic.</p>

<p>"We're in the midst of something that's pretty serious right now and the fact that he's trying to politicize it and make it a campaign rally, saying that (the United States) administers the most tests in the world like it's a contest... It's just not the way a leader should act and there is a bit of diplomacy that you need to show and I just don't think he's shown that, especially in these times," McIlroy said.</p>

<p>Back in 2017, McIlroy was surprised at the "blow-back" he received after accepting an invitation to play a round with the then-recently inaugurated president.</p>

<p>"I'll sit here and say that the day that I did spend with him and others was very enjoyable," McIlroy recalled this week of that round with Trump.</p>

<p>"He's very charismatic. He was nice to everyone. It didn't matter whether you were me or the guys in the cart barn or the pro at the golf club.</p>

<p>"He has something. He obviously has something or he wouldn't be in the White House, right?</p>

<p>"So I will sit here and say that the day I had with him I enjoyed but that doesn't mean I agree with everything -- or, in fact, anything that he says."</p>

<p>And while he once defended that round with Trump as a show of respect to his office, McIlroy indicated he wouldn't accept another such invitation.</p>

<p>"I don't know if he'd want to play with me again after what I just said," McIlroy said. "I know it's very self-serving of me to say, 'No' and if I don't, then it means then I'm not putting myself in position to be put under scrutiny and that I'm avoiding that.</p>
