Kolkata Knight Riders coach Brendon McCullum said his batsmen will have to address their lack of intent after managing only 84 runs from 20 overs in Wednesday’s eight-wicket Indian Premier League (IPL) defeat by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata’s total in seam-friendly conditions in Abu Dhabi was the lowest score in the IPL by a team playing its full quota of 20 overs, with Mumbai Indians’ 94-8 against Rajasthan Royals in 2011 the previous record.

Bangalore’s Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers, giving away eight runs in his four overs and picking up three wickets.

“RCB bowled really well. Siraj bowled an excellent line and length and I think he was able to present the seam and ask a few questions of us, questions which in the past we have answered better than we did,” McCullum told reporters.

“Before the game we talked about wanting to show strong intent at the top of the order and we lacked intent. That’s something we’re going to have to address... you have to be creative to get yourselves into the game.

“You’re not going to win too many games from 40-6... we’ve got to bounce back. That could be the nature of this tournament with the conditions being slightly challenging... find a way to pick yourselves up and get a result after a poor one.”

Twice champions Kolkata are fourth in the table with 10 points from as many games, while Bangalore are second on 14 points, trailing leaders Delhi Capitals only on net run rate.

A native of Al Araoui in Morocco, Jahouh started his career with Ittihad Khemisset before moving to Moghreb Tétouan in 2010. England's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan said players should have the freedom to withdraw from tours if the bio-secure bubbles are affecting their "mental health".

West Indies toured England in June, a month ahead of their three-Test series to restart cricket after the coronavirus pandemic halted most major sporting events across the globe.

Players have since been confined to bio-secure environments on tours and during tournaments, including at the ongoing Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates.

"We managed to fulfil all of our international fixtures for the summer," Morgan, who is also leading the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, told various media.

"But to keep that level of bubble for 10 of the 12 months that we normally travel, I think is untenable. You can drill a player both mentally and physically. And it can cause extreme burnout, which nobody wants to see."

England hosted West Indies, Pakistan, Ireland and Australia this summer with all matches played in Manchester and Southampton.

The players' travel was restricted from the on-site hotels to the grounds and Morgan feels that more similar tours will only increase the stress levels.

"We've spoken about this as a team and we've accepted that guys will come in and out of the bubble as they feel it is affecting their mental health," said Morgan.

"I don't think people should look down on it and they shouldn't feel like people aren't doing their job or not committing to their country.

"That's a reactive way of dealing with things and we want to be at the forefront of making it acceptable for people to say 'I need to spend time with my family now and I'm taking this tour off' just because of the extraordinary circumstances."

England are scheduled to tour South Africa for limited-overs matches next month, with tours of Sri Lanka and India to follow early next year.

West Indies Test captain Jason Holder also believes going from one bubble to another has been "demanding".

"It's been demanding. It has been challenging," said Holder, who replaced injured Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL squad last month.

"And if you look at scheduling, it doesn't get any easier. It's literally going from bubble to bubble. Some places are accepting families and some aren't. So it makes it harder to be away from your family and your loved ones."

"That's a reactive way of dealing with things and we want to be at the forefront of making it acceptable for people to say 'I need to spend time with my family now and I'm taking this tour off' just because of the extraordinary circumstances." England are scheduled to tour South Africa for limited-overs matches next month, with tours of Sri Lanka and India to follow early next year. The England men’s Tour of South Africa has been confirmed with three IT20s and three ODIs taking place behind closed doors in Cape Town and Paarl from next month.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) have agreed to biosecurity and travel plans for what will be the first international tour undertaken by an England cricket team since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

CSA approved the plans with the South African Government earlier this week granting exemptions for inbound travel for the England players and management.

Eoin Morgan’s squad will depart from London on a chartered flight on Monday 16 November. The touring party will be based in Cape Town. Ahead of the IT20 series, the squad will train at Western Province Cricket Club. They will play three intra-squad practice matches – two T20s and one 50-over game – before the series starts.

The three-match ODI series, which are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, starts at Newlands on Friday 4 December. The second match will be played at Boland Park on Sunday 6 December, and the final game of the tour will take place on Wednesday 9 December at Newlands.
