Inner Child Therapy: Know About This Unique Concept for Inner Healing

Children's Day is celebrated annually across India on Nov 14, to raise awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. On this day, let's learn about the unique concept of inner child therapy for inner healing and a better future.

Sometimes childhood trauma isn't addressed, and it resurfaces in new ways when we grow old.

To assist you in making changes in your life and feel compassion for both your past and present selves, you can communicate to, heal, nurture, and guide your "inner child", which is a symbolic kid version of yourself.

The process doesn't include only one type of approach. It instead has many different therapeutic techniques, and all of them can work on your inner child.

Schema therapy, internal family systems therapy, ego state therapy, gestalt therapy, and voice dialogue, are some types of inner child therapy that one can explore.

The ultimate aim is to heal the inner child in order to heal the adult person who is shrouded by sadness, anger, abandonment, or other emotional distress. The goals of each type of inner child therapy can be different.

The effectiveness of inner child therapy as a whole has to be studied by the researchers, but they have provided research-based findings of individual types of inner child therapy such as schema therapy, transactional analysis, and more.

One can communicate to heal, nurture, guide your "inner child" to assist in making changes in life and feel compassion for past and present selves.

Former British interior minister Suella Braverman, who was recently sacked, slammed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his leadership on Tuesday (Nov 14) in letter that she shared publicly, which also urged the prime minister to change course to avoid election defeat. In a sign of yet another rebellion brewing in ruling Conservative Party against Sunak, she also criticised his record on immigration and antisemitism.

Several controversies hampered Braverman's tenure, but her recent article published in the British daily The Times, in which she accused the police of pro-Palestine partiality during protest rallies in the wake of Israel-Hamas war, was the final nail in the coffin.

In a three-page letter addressed to Sunak which she posted on X, Braverman said: "Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time. You need to change course urgently."

She accused Sunak of "equivocation, disregard and a lack of interest" over several policies, including cutting immigration and the teaching of gender in schools.

"You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies," she wrote.

"Either your distinctive style of government means you are incapable of doing so. Or, as I must surely conclude now, you never had any intention of keeping your promises," she added.

In the article, Braverman had claimed that right-wing protesters were "rightly met with a stern response", but the "pro-Palestinian mobs" were "largely ignored".

A woman was found murdered 31 years ago in a river in Belgium. She has finally been identified with the help of her flower tattoo, Interpol said on Tuesday (Nov 14).

Rita Roberts, a British national, found on Jun 3, 1992, lying against a grate in an Antwerp river, had a tattoo of a black flower with green leaves and the inscription "R'Nick" on her right forearm.

The policing agency Interpol said in a statement that "a family member in the United Kingdom recognised the tattoo on the news and notified Interpol and Belgian authorities".

The Interpol said that Roberts moved to Antwerp from Cardiff in Feb 1992 at the age of 31. She last communicated with her relatives via postcard in May 1992. As per Interpol, "For three decades, the victim remained nameless."

However, the authorities were able to find details after the police group launched a campaign in May to identify 22 women believed to have been murdered in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The identities remained a mystery in cases spanning decades.

The family has also asked for privacy during the grieving period and urged the media to not contact them.

"Whilst the news has been difficult to process, we are incredibly grateful to have uncovered what happened to Rita," the family was quoted in the statement as saying.

Durham Constabulary called the case "historic". Durham police quoted a statement from the family, who had asked to remain anonymous, saying they had last heard from her via a postcard from Belgium in May 1992.

"The news was shocking and heartbreaking. Our passionate, loving, and free-spirited sister was cruelly taken away," the family said.

"There are no words to truly express the grief we felt at that time, and still feel today.

"Rita was a beautiful person who adored travelling. She loved her family, especially her nephews and nieces, and always wanted to have a family of her own," the family said.

Jammu and Kashmir: At least 38 dead as bus falls into a 300-foot gorge in Doda

A US-based rights group has sued President Joe Biden and two of his cabinet members for apparently failing to prevent and aiding and abetting "genocide" in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The federal complaint was filed by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) on Monday (Nov 13) against Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. It accused them of "failure to prevent and complicity in the Israeli government's unfolding genocide".

In 2004, this rights group even won a huge case in the US Supreme Court which established the rights of prisoners held by the US military at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

Besides the lawsuit, more than 500 political appointees and staff people from 40 government departments signed a letter to Biden on Tuesday denouncing his support for the war. This letter urged the president to seek an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and to press Israel to allow humanitarian relief into the area.

Such dissenting opinion remains within the State Department and there's also resentment over Biden's stance on Israel's aggression.

The CCR said that the Hamas cross-border attack on Oct 7 does not provide legal justification for the scale of Israel's assault on Gaza. Hamas militants killed approximately 1,200 people and they took away over 200 people hostages.

Israel waged war, calling it retaliatory action, and launched incessant missile strikes on what it calls "militants hideouts", which has killed over 11,000 in the Gaza Strip, including 4,600 children, as per the Hamas authorities.

The complaint said: "In the Bible, God commands the extermination of Amalekite men, women, children, and animals, and this commandment is described by scholars as 'divinely mandated genocide'."

The CCR said the targeting of civilian infrastructure and forced expulsions amount to genocide and the 1948 international convention against genocide requires the US and other countries to use their power and influence to stop the killing.

The introduction of the complaint, which was brought on behalf of several Palestinian groups, read: "This case is brought on behalf of Palestinian human rights organizations and individuals to enforce what is perhaps the most basic and important legal, and moral, obligation in the world – the obligation to prevent genocide, the destruction of a people."

The complaint argues that the "unconditional support given" by the US has so far enabled the "unfolding genocide" of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

It said, "As Israel's closest ally and strongest supporter, being its biggest provider of military assistance by a large margin and with Israel being the largest cumulative recipient of US foreign assistance since World War II, the United States has the means available to have a deterrent effect on Israeli officials now pursuing genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza."

US rights group sues Joe Biden for alleged 'failure to prevent genocide' in Gaza

Alistair Macrow, chief executive of McDonald's UK and Ireland, said Tuesday (Nov 14) that the fast-food giant faces "one to two" sexual harassment allegations from workers every week. The issue was recently exposed by the BBC and Macrow has promised to tackle the alarming situation.

While speaking to a watchdog parliamentary committee, he said that his employees' accounts of alleged harassment and racism were "truly horrific and hard to listen to". Macrow was quizzed by MPs after a probe revealed a "toxic culture" at its restaurants.

The BBC investigation, which was done in July, revealed several allegations of sexual misconduct, racism and bullying by staff at McDonald's outlets in Britain.

In the aftermath, the company said that it had dismissed 18 employees and taken 75 disciplinary measures. It noted that it has examined 157 reported cases since the scandal emerged, and some 249 cases remain to be investigated.

It noted that it has examined 157 reported cases since the scandal emerged, and some 249 cases remain to be investigated. Israeli-Russian academic Elizabeth Tsurkov, who was reportedly kidnapped in Iraq in March, was seen alive in a video shown by Iraqi pro-militia Telegram channels on Monday (Nov 13).

Earlier in July, Israeli authorities had revealed that Tsurkov had been kidnapped. Israel alleged that pro-Iranian militants were behind the kidnapping.

Now, in a video aired by Al Rabiaa TV, Tsurkov was seen wearing a black shirt and speaking to the camera in Hebrew.

The video, which was also shared on the Telegram channels of pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq, lasted for a little more than four minutes.

However, it can't be confirmed when exactly the video was shot, or other details such as who the captors are, and more.

In the video, the 37-year-old can be heard calling for an end to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and also asks to act for her release. She also said that she had been detained for more than seven months.

Tsurkov is a doctoral student at Princeton University and a fellow at the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy.

She said in the video that she had worked for Israeli and US intelligence agencies in Syria and Iraq.

In a report by HAARETZ, it was mentioned that Tsurkov, who is a dual Israeli-Russian citizen, entered Iraq earlier this year using her Russian passport.

The report has said that she has often done this for her work doctorate and academic research at Princeton University as she is an expert on the Middle East.

Paul Pelosi, husband of former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, on Monday (Nov 13) took the stand as he for the first time recounted the details of the night when he was attacked by a hammer-wielding man in the San Francisco home.

Paul recalled the moment, stating that it was shocking to see a man standing at the bedroom door of the house he shares with his wife. He said that he has never discussed the incident with anyone "because it has been too traumatic".

He testified in the trial of David DePape, who is shown on video carrying out the attack. Paul recalled how the man whacked him in the head with a hammer.

"It was a tremendous sense of shock to recognise that somebody had broken into the house and looking at him and looking at the hammer and the ties, I recognised that I was in serious danger, so I tried to stay as calm as possible," he told the jurors.

According to the prosecutors, DePape bludgeoned Pelosi last year in the early hours of Oct 28.

The incident happened just days before the midterm elections. The prosecutors also said that he had rope and zip ties with him.

DePape has pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official.

Jodi Linker, who is that defence attorney, told the jurors last week that she will argue that DePape believed "with every ounce of his being" that his actions were meant to stop government corruption. Linker said that she won't dispute that DePape attacked Pelosi.

According to Paul, he was apparently woken up when the man entered his bedroom. The man was asking, "Where's Nancy?"

Paul replied that his wife was in Washington, in return he was tied up by the intruder and they waited for her.

Paul said: "We had some conversation with him saying she was the leader of the pack, he had to take her out, and that he was going to wait for her."

It has been reported that Paul and Nancy's house has an alarm system with motion detectors.

However, Paul said that it mostly remained off when he was home alone because his movements would trigger it.

When the man struck him, Paul received injuries. When images surfaced of paramedics helping him, his face and hands were seen covered in blood.

Paul later underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture and injuries to his right arm and hands.

Nancy Pelosi's husband recounts details of night he was attacked, calls it 'traumatic'

Six prominent presidential candidates in Madagascar told AFP on Monday they plan to boycott this week's elections, worsening a political crisis engulfing the country.

The six, who are part of a larger grouping of opposition candidates holding almost daily protests for weeks, said they will not take part in Thursday's vote and will urge their supporters not to cast their ballot.

"We will call (on people) not to go and vote," said presidential hopeful Marc Ravalomanana, 73, one of two former presidents to join calls for a boycott.

The Indian Ocean island nation has been shaken by a fierce battle between President Andry Rajoelina, who is running for re-election, and most opposition leaders.

Almost all the 12 opposition candidates in the running have led near daily, unauthorised marches in Antananarivo, for more than a month, protesting at what they have called an "institutional coup" that favours the incumbent.

The demonstrations that have in average drawn a few hundred supporters have been regularly dispersed by police.

On Saturday, security forces fired teargas and detained 11 protesters at yet another rally.

"I will not stand for election, that is very clear," said Hery Rajaonarimampianina, 65, another former president who was in the running to replace Rajoelina.

Last week, the head of the lower house of parliament, who leads a mediation group to find a way out of the crisis, called for the suspension of the presidential elections, to ensure "peace" and "harmony".

"The situation is deleterious. There is no calm, it is not the time to hold elections," said candidate Auguste Paraina, 69. The opposition grouping supports a suspension of the electoral process.

But a spokeswoman for Rajoelina called the request a "far-fetched idea".

The outgoing president held his last campaign rally in Antananarivo on Sunday in front of a fervent crowd of several thousand people donning t-shirts bearing his image.

"I'm going to win, that's for sure, and in the first round," he told AFP in an interview at the weekend.

'Rigged vote'

Rajoelina, 49, became Africa's youngest head of state in 2009 when he took power on the back of a coup.

After not running in the 2013 election due to international pressure, he was voted back into power in 2018 and has since held the reins in a country that remains among the poorest in the world despite vast natural resources.

The show of support for the president at the weekend "means nothing" said Roland Ratsiraka, 57, another opposition candidate, hinting at the common practice of paying people to attend political rallies in the country.

The European Union, the United States and other members of the international community have expressed "deep concern" at the political tensions and denounced the excessive use of force against the opposition.

A source at Madagascar's electoral commission said some irregularities have already been reported, including some would-be voters being pressured not to register.

The crisis erupted in September after Rajoelina resigned in line with the constitution in order to run for re-election.

The president of the Senate was supposed to take over but declined for "personal reasons", leaving the task to a "collegial government" headed by the prime minister, an ally of Rajoelina.

The move was accepted by the Constitutional Court, which also dismissed appeals to have Rajoelina's candidacy declared void over his dual French nationality, sparking opposition anger.

Detractors believe that under local laws the President was to lose Madagascan nationality and with it the ability to lead the country because of the naturalisation, which was revealed by the media in June.

In Itaosy, an eastern suburb of Antananarivo, a few hundred people joined a peaceful opposition march on Monday.

"It's a rigged vote," said Sandra Rafarasoa, 33, standing outside her modest repair shop for two-wheelers.

Voters in Madagascar were initially due to head to the polls on November 9, but the top court in October ordered that the elections be postponed after a presidential candidate was injured during a demonstration.

The date for a potential second round vote on December 20 was kept unchanged.

Thursday's election "will not take place", said Hajo Andrianainarivelo, 56, another opposition candidate.

Barry was selected by President Ronald Reagan to serve on the Federal District Court in New Jersey in 1983, reportedly after the intervention of Donald Trump's then-personal lawyer and fixer Roy Cohn.

She was appointed to the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Barry was close to Donald Trump for decades, and was one of the few people whose advice he sought.

ABC said the siblings were in touch over recent years and met this summer at one of Trump's golf clubs.

But in 2020, the last year of Trump's term in the White House, his niece Mary Trump released recordings of Barry speaking critically about the then-president.

"Donald's out for Donald," Barry said in the recordings. "His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God.

"I'm talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation.

"He has no principles. None. None."

Trump was reportedly furious and deeply hurt by the comments.

A probe into Barry's alleged judicial misconduct was dropped when she retired in 2019, in the middle of an investigation into the family's tax records. She denied any wrongdoing.

Trump, 77, who hopes to win back the White House next year, lost his younger brother Robert S. Trump in 2020, while his first wife, Ivana Trump, died in 2022.

He made no immediate comment on Barry's death.

Premature babies born in the Gaza Strip amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war are dying in the absence of adequate health equipment and other facilities as the escalating conflict has made it difficult for hospitals to run optimally.

The toll released on Monday (Nov 13) by the Palestinian authorities stated that a premature baby and two patients have died in Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital.

The Hamas-run health ministry said that the facility suffered fuel shortages amid intense fighting between Israeli troops and Hamas militants.

Youssef Abu Rish, who is the deputy health minister in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, told the news agency AFP that the new deaths brought the toll to six premature babies and nine patients since electric shortages started to impact the hospital.

But Israel claims that Hamas, a Palestine-based militant group which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by many Western nations, has set up camps beneath hospitals and they are using civilians as human shields.

The dark side of the war

The war that has killed several thousand people is not sparing the most innocent of humans as well - babies. Newborn babies at the Al-Shifa Hospital are witnessing the horrors of war due to a lack of medical equipment to take care of premature births, such as incubators.

A report by news agency Reuters mentioned that the babies are kept side by side, some wrapped in green fabric roughly taped around them, for warmth.

Images released by the news agency showed some babies wearing only nappies, a picture of vulnerability, their lives in grave danger with every minute that passes.

Some social media posts, citing Medhat Abbas, a spokesperson for the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, claimed that some babies were born via C-section from dead mothers. WION couldn't independently confirm these reports.

The situation is extremely dire, with Dr Mohamed Tabasha, head of the paediatric department at Al-Shifa, in a telephone interview on Monday, saying: "Yesterday I had 39 babies and today they have become 36."

"I cannot say how long they can last. I can lose another two babies today, or in an hour," Tabasha told Reuters.

The report claimed that premature babies weigh less than 1.5kg each and in some cases only 700 or 800 grams.

Health experts say that these babies should be in incubators where the temperature and humidity can be regulated according to their individual needs.

However, Tabasha claimed that they had to be moved to ordinary beds over the weekend because of a shortage of electricity and because the infants were too cold.

They were placed side by side, surrounded by packets of nappies, cardboard boxes of sterile gauze and plastic bags.
