The European Union (EU) has asked Pakistan to act on terror in a call made by Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to EU's Mogherini to brief about the situation of heightened tension post-Pulwama attack. The attack on February 14 killed more than 40 CRPF personnel was claimed by Pakistan based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called Pakistan to not only act United Nations listed terrorist but also individuals.

She highlighted the "need to continue addressing terrorism including clear and sustained actions targeting not only all UN-listed transnational terrorist groups but also individuals claiming responsibility for such attacks."

In the release issued by EU "stressed the urgency to de-escalate the situation" arising between the two nuclear powers India and Pakistan.

But what is interesting to note is, the release issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on the same conversation makes no mention of terror.

Instead, it said that the Pakistani foreign minister has expressed his readiness to his EU counterpart to investigate the Pulwama terror attack if India shares "actionable intelligence" and goes on to rake Kashmir.

Afghanistan begins sending goods to Iran's Chabahar port, final destination is India

Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, Afghan President said, "Afghanistan is no more a landlocked country", according to Afghan news agency Tolo news.

He announced that an elite unit from Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security(NDS) which is the Afghan intelligence agency will be deployed to protect the route that leads to Chabahar from Nimruz to ensure the safe flow of goods while meeting provincial council members in the province.&nbsp;

He also said that the people of Nimruz play a substantial role in guaranteeing export and import of goods from Afghanistan to Chabahar and beyond.

The export consignment, loaded in 23 trucks consisted of Afghan carpets, dry fruits, cotton, talc, stones and other items weighing 570 tonnes.&nbsp;

Speaking from Nimroz Indian envoy Vinay Kumar told WION that it was "a landmark event to provide access for the Afghan exporters to the large Indian market to build on the success of air corridor which has already helped increase Afghan exports to India by more than forty per cent."

Afghanistan has a huge trade surplus with India, the only such surplus for Afghans with any country. Bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan has seen a quantum jump of over 40% in 2018-19, crossing US dollar 1 billion. Afghan exports to India stood at US dollars 740 million last year.&nbsp;

The development comes days before Iran will organise Chabahar day. It will take place on 26th February and will be a business event to attract investment for the port. Secretary of the Shipping ministry of India will lead the Indian delegation with industry chamber CII taking a strong business delegation of 30 Indian companies.

The Chabahar project is a major connectivity program which will help India connect not only with landlocked Afghanistan but also central Asia. The project is also part of the international north-south corridor that will connect Mumbai to Moscow via Iran and Azerbaijan.&nbsp;

Chabahar port opens for Afghan goods as Afghanistan President says will deploy security to safeguard the route

India on Sunday handed over 155 houses built under the Indian Housing Project Bridwell Estate in Bogawantalawa, Hatton in the central province of Sri Lanka. Hatton is known as the tea capital of Sri Lanka and is known area is known for its plantation areas.&nbsp;

The houses were handed over to beneficiaries jointly by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe &amp; Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Out of 63,000 houses, India has committed to build under the project, 47,000 have already been constructed.

Speaking at the event Sri Lankan PM thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian government's support for the development support extended to Sri Lanka.

But today no one asks if you stay in France or Germany. Even south and north Korea moving in a positive trajectory.US President Abraham Lincoln once said--Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”

He was present at an event on in Delhi were PM Modi and EAM Sushma addressed delegates from 182 countries who had come for Kumbh Mela.

Asked about Pakistan's involvement in Pulwama terror on February 14 whose responsibility was claimed by Pakistan based Jaish e, Mohammad, Vankwani said, "Not at all. Don't even think Pakistan will ever allow its territory to be used against India. If there is evidence we will act. Whether Jaish is saying to take credit or if in fact, Jaish has done, you will see action by our govt."

Adding, "Time has moved, we now take action. Our biggest religion should be humanity. Loss due to terror is a loss for all on both sides of the border."

He said he met foreign minister Sushma for 20 minutes and was with the minister of state in the ministry of external affairs General VK Singh last week during the Kumbha Mela visit along with people of other countries.

He said he will brief Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan about his meetings in Delhi and tell about the "grievances and what could be the solution". He also requested media from both the sides of the border to talk in a positive manner for the sake of peace in the region.

Vankwani is the head of the Pakistan Hindu council which is the representative body of all Hindus of Pakistan.

His presence in India comes even as New Delhi is asking Islamabad to act on terror groups on its territory in the aftermath of Pulwama attack.&nbsp;

Afghanistan all set to get connected to India via Chabahar from Sunday

For the second time in a week, Afghanistan has taken its neighbour Pakistan to United Nations Security Council (UNSC).&nbsp;

Kabul in a letter to UNSC raised the issue of "consistent violations of Afghanistan's territory" by Pakistani forces and has called on the powerful United Nations body to initiate necessary measures to address the matter at hand in an ''effective manner".&nbsp;

In a letter by Deputy Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to United Nation, Nazifullah Salarzai said," the nature of these violations mainly includes persistent shelling of Afghan territory, particularly in districts and villages of Kunar and Nangarhar provinces".&nbsp;

Violations also include Violation of Afghan airspace by Pakistani military aircraft and building of military posts.&nbsp;

Afghanistan said the violations date back to 2012 but have increased in frequency since 2017.&nbsp;

During 2012 to 2017 period, 28,849 artillery shells were fired into Afghanistan by Pakistan resulting in the death of at least 82 people and injuring 187 others.&nbsp;

Since January 1, 2018, &nbsp;the number of violations by Pakistan in Afghanistan stands at 161 which include firing 6025 artillery shells into Afghan territory.

The Afghan government also exposed the policy of the new Pakistan government led by Imran Khan to UNSC. Recalling the September 2018 visit of Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mehmud Qureishi to Kabul during which Islamabad reiterated its commitment to implement the Afghanistan Pakistan action plan, Salarzai said, "What we have seen is nothing but actions that translate to the continued violation of the action plan".

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be attending OIC's 46th foreign minister meet as the 'Guest of Honour'. The session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers will take place from March 1 to 2 in Abu Dhabi, Dubai.

India has been invited by UAE's foreign minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement said, "We see this invitation as a welcome recognition of the presence of 185 million Muslims in India and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and of India’s contribution to the Islamic world".

India also thanked UAE for its invitation saying New Delhi sees the "invitation as the desire of the enlightened leadership of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateral ties" and "forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateral and international level". Adding further, New Delhi said, the invitation is a "milestone in our comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE".

Statement from the UAE foreign ministry said, "Will open session next Friday... with the participation of 56 member states and 5 observer states, as well as the friendly Republic of India with all its international political weight and diverse cultural heritage and an important Islamic component, as a guest of honour".

This is a major development since OIC has not been very pro-India and has been issuing statements on Kashmir over Pakistan's insistence. This also shows New Delhi's 'Look West Policy' which has seen a number of high-level engagements between India and West Asia. This, despite a hyphenation between Israel and Palestine, is something that was criticised since it was seen as a policy that could alienate New Delhi in many Arab capitals.

Interestingly, Fakrudin Ali Ahmed as an Indian representative was not allowed to attend the final session of OIC meet in 1969 in Rabat, Morocco at the behest of the then Pak President Yahya Khan.&nbsp;

In a first, India invited at Organisation of Islamic Cooperation session as 'Guest of Honour'

India is using 95 per cent of waters from three eastern rivers - Ravi, Sutlej and Beas - under the Indus Water Treaty. New Delhi now wants to make sure it utilizes the entire water share of the rivers and is working on three projects to achieve the same - Shahpurkandi project, Ujh multipurpose project and second Ravi Beas link.

33 million acre-feet (MAF) of the three rivers are allocated to India for exclusive use. India has the full right to waters from the three eastern rivers under the Indus Water Treaty signed in 1960 between former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and former Pak President Ayub Khan.&nbsp;

Currently, about 2 MAF of water flows unutilized to Pakistan from river Ravi.&nbsp;

Shahpurkandi project

The Shahpurkandi project will help utilize water from Ranjit Sagar Dam on river Ravi and will help irrigate 37,000 hectares of land in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. It will also help generate 206 MW of power.

It was to be completed by September 2016 but due to a disagreement between Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab government, the project was suspended. On September 8, both the states came to an agreement and the project's construction was resumed.

Ujh multipurpose project

The project is on river Ujh which is a tributary of Ravi river and will create storage of 781 million cubic meters and is expected to irrigate 31,380 ha of Kathua, Hiranagar and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The project was approved in July 2017 at the total cost of Rs 5850 crore.

The project involves constructing a barrage on Ravi river for diverting water through a tunnel link to Beas basin. This will help India tap excess water flowing to Pakistan from Ravi even after constructing the Ranjit Sagar dam.

This is significant since China is one of the 5 permanent members of UNSC. The other 4 are - US, Russia, UK and France. China did try to create issues due to which negotiations were prolonged.

China has been blocking the listing of JeM chief Masood Azhar as an international terrorist under 1267 committee of UNSC and has blocked India's bid to list him many times citing lack of consensus. The members of the Security Council also expressed their "deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims" as well as to the "Indian people and the government of India, and wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured."

Further, reaffirming that "terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security," members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold the "perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice".

The trade volume between the two nations reached 21.5 billion dollars for the calendar year 2018 with both aiming to achieve&nbsp;$50 billion trade by 2030. Both sides have also fast-tracked the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

The Prime Minister further said, "India's Act East and Korea's new southern policy is strengthening and giving depth to the strategic partnership between the two countries".&nbsp;

PM Modi reiterated India's policy on the inclusivity and centrality of the Indo-Pacific and the ASEAN. The MoUs between India and South Korea were signed in the field of trade and industry, startup, communication.

Kimhae city has a historic connect with India, it is believed that Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya had gone there in 48 CE and married Korean King Suro and started a dynasty. Princess Suriratna is known as Heo Hwang-ok in South Korea.&nbsp;

The First Lady of South Korea, Kim Jung-Sook, visited Ayodhya in November 2018 to participate in the ground-breaking ceremony of the Queen Suriratna Memorial in the city. Gimhae and Ayodhya have a sister-city relationship.
