Twitter said the accounts linked to China were the highest with 23,750 "highly engaged core" accounts and 150,000 "amplifier" accounts.

"They were tweeting predominantly in Chinese languages and spreading geopolitical narratives favorable to the Communist Party of China, while continuing to push deceptive narratives about the political dynamics in Hong Kong," Twitter said.

According to reports, the accounts praised China's response to COVID-19 and others which were linked to Hong Kong protests.

Twitter had earlier deleted accounts during the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests in August last year and it took help of the same system to uncover the Chinese network.

The company said the network had "failed to achieve considerable traction" but was "involved in a range of manipulative and coordinated activities". The accounts have been placed in Twitter's archive.

Twitter also took down 7,340 Turkey state propaganda accounts and 1,152 Russian accounts.

The UK government had imposed a lockdown on March 23 in an attempt to halt the spread of COVID-19, and also stepped in to back up employee wages in a costly "furlough" jobs retention scheme.

"GDP fell by 20.4 percent in the month, the largest fall since monthly records began in 1997, reflecting record widespread falls in services, production and construction output," the ONS added.

The dramatic collapse in April was three times greater than the slump experienced during the 2008-2009 global financial crisis, it said.

Britain is now gradually easing stay-at-home restrictions, with widespread concern about the impact of two months of lockdown on the economy.

- 'Unprecendented' - 
Yet the harsh restrictions -- under which shops and factories shut down and workers were sent home -- is widely expected to have sent the nation into recession.

Jonathan Athow, ONS deputy national statistician, described the 20-percent slump as "unprecedented".

"April's fall in GDP is the biggest the UK has ever seen, more than three times larger than last month and almost ten times larger than the steepest pre-COVID-19 fall," said Athow.

"In April, the economy was around 25 percent smaller than in February."

The hardest hit areas were pubs, education, health and car sales.

GDP meanwhile shrank by 10.4 percent in the three months to the end of April.

"The economy has experienced a significant shock since the start of the coronavirus pandemic; GDP has fallen dramatically, with record broad-based falls in output for production, services and construction," the ONS added.

- 'Wide-ranging impact' - 
The COVID-19 pandemic, which has blighted economies worldwide, had a "significant and wide-ranging negative impact" in April on British businesses.

"April 2020 has experienced sharper falls than March as the negative impacts of social distancing and 'lockdown' have led to a significant fall in consumer demand and business and factory closures, as well as supply chain disruptions," the ONS said.

Britain is meanwhile pressing ahead with its lockdown easing plans.

Non-essential shops and services, as well as zoos, wildlife parks and drive-in cinemas can open from next Monday, and individual attendance will be allowed at places of worship.

However, restrictions have not yet been lifted on pubs, bars, restaurants and other leisure facilities.

Britain is widely expected to slump into recession in the second quarter of this year, having contracted by two percent in the first three months of 2020.

The economy could collapse as much as 35 percent in the current quarter that runs to the end of June, according to UK fiscal watchdog the Office for Budget Responsibility.

The Bank of England has already warned that the COVID-19 economic paralysis could lead to Britain's worst recession in centuries.

The Supreme Court Friday asked the Centre and the airline companies to discuss modalities for full refund of tickets for domestic and international flights which were cancelled following the COVID-19 lockdown.

A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, S K Kaul and M R Shah asked the Centre to take a stand on the issue and work out ways for full refund.

A plea was also raised that airlines across the world are facing tough time due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and they too be heard as parties to the plea filed by an&nbsp;NGO.

The top court has now fixed the plea for further hearing after three weeks.

It had on Monday had sought responses from the Centre and the DGCA on the plea seeking directions to airlines operating domestic and international fights in India to refund full amount collected for tickets due to cancellation of flights in wake of the lockdown.

The plea urged the court to declare the alleged action of airlines of not refunding entire value of cancelled air tickets as violative of the civil aviation requirement issued by the authority.

"It is submitted that the airlines instead of providing the full refund of the amount collected for the tickets due to ancellation, are providing a credit shell, valid up to one year, which is clear in violation of the Civil Aviation Requirement of May 2008 issued by the DGCA which clearly states that the option of holding the refund amount in credit shell by the airlines shall be the prerogative of the passenger and not a default practice of the airline," the plea said.

Referring to the earlier prevalent practice, it has said in case of credit card payments, refund shall be made by the airlines within seven days of the cancellation to account of the credit-card holder and in case of a cash transaction, the refund shall be "made immediately" by the airline office from where the ticket was purchased.

The Civil Aviation Requirement of May 2008 sets a limit of 30 working days for airlines to complete the refund process for tickets booked through travel agents/ portals, the plea has said.

The plea referred to the April 16 office memorandum of the Ministry of Civil Aviation which deals with refund of ticket amount collected without levy of cancellation charge.

It claimed that the memorandum directed airlines to provide full refund to only those people who booked tickets during the lockdown period, and "leaving out people who booked tickets prior to lockdown but the flights cancelled due to lockdown amounts to treating equals unequally and thus the same is in clear violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution".

The plea said: "It is clear from the Office Memorandum that directs the airlines to refund only those tickets that were booked during the lockdown period, leaves out the vast majority of passengers who had booked tickets before the flights were banned."

"Which indirectly approves to the practice of the airlines providing Credit Shell for booking effected before the lockdown, though the same clearly violates the refund rules of the DGCA."

There was no question of anyone booking a ticket during the lockdown knowing that schedule passenger flights were cancelled for period of travel and this made Office Memorandum of the Ministry of Civil Aviation "ambiguous and devoid of any logic", the plea has claimed.

Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases, Pakistan on Thursday reported 6,000 new COVID-19 infections&nbsp;in the last 24 hours.

Sindh and Punjab have reported over 87,000 cases in the country with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recording over 15,000 cases. The coronavirus death toll in the country has risen to over 2,300.

On Thursday, Sindh had recorded the biggest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases with over 2,000 reported cases.

Balochistan reported 300 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of cases in the province to over 7,300 even as the local government allowed bus services to resume amid the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Thursday issued an advisory to mall owners to follow SOPs including santization of shop owners, customers as set by the government.

As the number of cases contined to rise, the World Health Organization(WHO) said that Pakistan is among the top-10 countries in the world reporting the highest number of cases.
