However, most of them pretend not to because it suits their own one-sided narrative. They have reduced Macron's war with extremism into a narrow calculation of prejudice &amp; íslamophobia. Just look at what's happened in France in recent years. A total of 1,700 French nationals have joined the ISIS since 2013. Mosques &amp; Islamic institutes have been found receiving funds from Arab countries.

There have been attacks orchestrated by France's own Muslim citizens. In January 2015, Paris was rocked by a series of terror attacks as 17 people were killed. In November 2015, another series of coordinated terror attacks took place in Paris and the death toll was higher as 130 people lost their lives.

In January 2016, a man wearing an&nbsp;explosive belt attacked police officers in Paris and he was shot dead. In July 2016, two terrorists attacked a church in Normandy, an 86-year-old priest got killed.

In the same month, in July 2016, a Tunisian resident of France drove a 19-tonne cargo truck into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day killing 86 innocent people.

There is more, the 2017 airport attack, the 2017 Champs-Elysees attack, the 2018 Paris knife attack, the 2018 Strasbourg shooting and then in 2020 in the last 10 months - a total of seven major terror attacks have taken place in France. They range from the ramming of cars to the stabbing of policemen to the beheading of a middle-school teacher.

When Emmanuel Macron says that Islam is a religion in crisis. He has a point, Muslim dominated areas in France have become increasingly polarised. Some experts consider these specific areas to be "the lost territories of the republic". Territories where government control is weak, territories where Islamic laws &amp; customs prevail and extremism thrives.

What Emmanuel Macron is doing is to bring back these territories in control, curb Islamic extremism and put an end to acts of terror once and for all. He has proposed new laws, he wants to push religion out of education. He wants to push religion out of the public sector and wants to rein in the radicals, make Islam more compatible with the French constitution and at the same time he wants French citizens to have the freedom to blaspheme.

He wants to ensure freedom of press &amp; freedom of expression. Macron's message is simple - constitution above religion and all citizens equal by law.

"I am asking each citizen, whether they follow a religion or not, to absolutely respect all of the laws of the republic. and there is in this radical Islam, since this is what the issue is, let's take it on board and let's name it, there is a will, a demand, an organized method to go against the laws of the republic and create a parallel order based on other values, developing a separatist society first off with the goal of ultimately taking total control and that's what they are doing, gradually, by rejecting the freedom of expression, freedom of thought, the right to blasphemy, which can insidiously move towards radicalisation," the French president said.

Radical Islam poses a major challenge to French society and to all societies. Macron is only pushing for laws to craft a French version of Islam - a version that is compatible with his country’s laws and values instead of trolling him, the world must support him because who knows which country, which government and which leader will have to take similar steps tomorrow.

The two countries also signed the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) pact boosting defence times amid the India-China standoff along the Line of Actual Control(LAC).

And on his most important political vulnerability — his mismanagement of the pandemic — Trump hewed unswervingly to a message that happy days are nearly here again, even as polls show that a majority of voters believe the worst of the coronavirus crisis is still ahead.

Trailing in a series of crucial swing states, and with 48 million Americans having already voted, the president was under more pressure. But while he proved he can engage in a more conventional political jousting, it was less clear whether his performance could prompt people who dislike him to reconsider their well-ingrained perceptions.

Biden, for his part, stuck to the core of the argument that has propelled his campaign from the start, denouncing Trump as a divisive and unethical leader who has botched the federal response to a devastating public-health crisis. Though Trump pushed him onto the defensive repeatedly, the former vice president also laid out a fuller version of his own policy agenda than he managed in the first debate, calling for large-scale economic stimulus spending, new aid to states battling the pandemic and a muscular expansion of health care and worker benefits nationwide.

Significantly, Biden made no serious error of the sort that could haunt him in the final days of a race in which he’s leading.

Of all the disagreements between the two candidates, none blazed more brightly than their assessments of the U.S. experience battling the coronavirus.

Prompted by the moderator, Kristen Welker of NBC News, to explain his plan for the coming months, Trump stuck to the sunny message he has delivered at recent campaign rallies, promising a vaccine in short order and citing his own recovery from a bout with the virus as an example of medical progress. The president boasted that he was now “immune” to the disease, and insisted that states like Texas and Florida had seen the virus fade away, even as case counts are on the rise across the country.

“I’ve been congratulated by the heads of many countries on what we’ve been able to do,” Trump said, without offering any specifics.

Biden, in response, pressed a focused and familiar line of attack against the president, faulting him for doing “virtually nothing” to head off the pandemic early this year and heading into the coldest part of the year with no defined plan to control the virus. Holding up a face mask, Biden said he would encourage all Americans to don them and would ramp up rapid testing on a national scale.

Remdesivir, given intravenously, was one of the drugs used to treat U.S. President Donald Trump during his bout with COVID-19.

Remdesivir has been available under an FDA emergency use authorization (EUA) since May, after a study led by the National Institutes of Health showed it reduced hospital stays by five days.

However, the World Health Organization (WHO) last week said its global trial of COVID-19 therapies found that remdesivir did not have a substantial effect on patients’ length of hospital stay or chances of survival. That study has not been reviewed by outside experts.

Gilead has questioned the potential for bias in the WHO study, which was not "blinded," meaning that patients and their doctors were aware of which treatments were being used.

Remdesivir, which will be sold under the brand name Veklury, costs $3,120 for a five-day treatment course, or $2,340 for government purchasers such as the Department of Veterans Affairs. Shares of Gilead rose 4.3% in after hours trading to $63.30.

Remdesivir has become the standard of care for patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 even though it has not been shown to improve survival. The drug also has not been proven to significantly help moderately-ill patients, and many doctors remain wary of using it in patients with less severe illness.

"The formal FDA approval doesn't change our (sales) estimates or outlook for remdesivir given it has already been branded standard-of-care prior to formal approval," Raymond James analyst Steven Seedhouse said in a research note, calling the prescribing guidelines and approval "pretty much a best case for Gilead," given the WHO results questioning remdesivir's benefits.

Gilead said it is currently meeting demand for the drug in the United States and anticipates meeting global demand by the end of October.

The company said Veklury has regulatory approvals or temporary authorizations in about 50 additional countries.

Also on Thursday, the FDA issued a new emergency use authorization for remdesivir to treat hospitalized pediatric patients under age 12 who weigh enough to receive an intravenous drug.

Gilead said it is still working to understand the full potential of remdesivir, in different settings and as part of combination therapy approaches. The company is also developing an inhaled version of the drug that might be used outside a hospital setting, if approved.

The study looked at over 400 patients who were hospitalised due to COVID-19 to find out whether the treatment healed people with moderate disease but it found that “convalescent plasma showed limited effectiveness”.

The study said in the past, convalescent plasma was used as a "passive immunisation strategy" to treat viral diseases, raising expectations that potentially it could be used to treat severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for COVIDd-19 and a disease with no proven, effective interventions"

It said that in the "pre-vaccine era, convalescent plasma was used to treat viral diseases such as poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, and influenza, and, more recently, influenza, Ebola virus disease, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus epidemics, with varying degrees of success."

"Evidence suggests that convalescent plasma collected from survivors of covid-19 contains receptor binding domain specific antibodies with potent antiviral activity."

"However, effective titres of antiviral neutralising antibodies, optimal timing for convalescent plasma treatment, optimal timing for plasma donation, and the severity class of patients who are likely to benefit from convalescent plasma remains unclear," it found.

The research said that convalescent plasma treatment had received regulatory approval in several countries, however, it said that due to uncertainties, it was still unclear just how much convalescent plasma was safe and effective.

"Only two randomised controlled trials on convalescent plasma use in covid-19 have been published, one from China and the other from the Netherlands," it said, adding,"both were stopped prematurely. China study because of inadequate patient enrolment, and the Dutch study because interim findings highlighted the need for a redesign of the trial."

"Neither study found a mortality benefit, and the Dutch study raised uncertainties about the pretransfusion antibody status of patients," it stated.
