In a new study, published in the journal Physiology, researchers have discussed the possibility of using cells from organisms, either dead or alive and using them in machines with totally new functions.

According to the researchers, biological robots or biobots are able to develop new functions which set them apart, because "there are few instances where organisms change in ways that are not predetermined".

The Chinese researchers for the first time have found evidence which hints at the possibility of syncing up of brains between humans and dogs.

The study suggests that if humans feel connected suddenly while gazing into the big and watery eyes of a dog, they may be going through brain synchronisation.

The study underlines the possibility of humans bonding with dogs at a deep neurological level.

Studies have previously shown that when humans talk or work with each other, the key regions of the brain activity also sync up.

However, this is the first time a similar phenomenon has been observed between humans and dogs.

Here's how researchers decoded how the brains of humans and dogs sync

The brain activity in humans and dogs was measured by the researchers by putting electrodes on the skull.

In the trial, the researchers matched the 10 young beagles with unknown humans after the pairs got acquainted with each other in the next five days.

During the experiments, the pairs of humans and dogs participated in nonverbal communication.

As part of it, humans and dogs remained in the same room and made no interactions.

"We observed that inter-brain correlations in frontal and parietal regions dramatically increased… during mutual gaze," wrote the authors of the study, headed by biologist Wei Ren from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The team observed patterns of synchronisation as human participants petted the dogs, however, the synchrony was stronger in the parietal brain region.

In the study, when humans gazed into the eyes of the dogs, there was deeper inter-brain activity between the two.

A special mathematical algorithm was used by the researchers to understand which brain was heading this rhythmic neural dance between the dog and the human.

While checking the data in every interaction between humans and dogs, the team discovered it was the human brains which initiated the coupled neural activity.

In the course of the study, there was growth in inter-brain synchronisation between the human-dog pairs, which suggested that there was bonding happening between the two.

In a shocking incident, a Chinese man killed a pet dog by throwing it violently on the ground after the unleashed animal chased his granddaughter.

The incident was reported in an online post on September 4 and created an intense debate on social media platforms.

As per the post, a young woman had taken her pet dog on a walk in the Zhejiang residential area and had not kept it leashed.

The dog started chasing a girl who was playing with other children nearby. In order to save his granddaughter, the man picked up the pet dog and threw it on the ground, because of which it died.

In the viral video, the owner of the dog is seen crouching close to her dead pet and saying, “You killed my dog! Come over here.”

Meanwhile, two onlookers are heard saying, “Your dog was chasing all of these kids, scaring them. The kids were being chased from one side of the neighbourhood to the other. Look how scared they are!”

Shouting back, the owner said, “But it didn’t bite her!”

An onlooker, while speaking to mainland outlet Dianshi News, said that the owner thought the dog was just playing with the children and hence, she did not intervene.

“She said the dog would not hurt anyone, and that it was just playing around,” said the onlooker. Later, the dog owner reported the incident.

Will the man face legal issues for killing the dog?

Issuing a statement, Xintang Subdistrict Office said that they are investigating the matter seriously and mediating between the involved parties.

“We will strengthen awareness of responsible dog ownership and improve neighbourhood relations,” the statement added.

According to China's law, dog owners should use a collar and leash in public, although adherence varies because some owners believe that leashes restrict their pets.

Speaking to Jiupai News, Fade Dongheng Law Firm in Jiangsu province in eastern China senior partner Lan Tianbin said that the grandfather should not face any legal repercussions because his actions will be seen as a “necessary act” to protect the child.

“When a dog bites a person, killing or injuring the dog to save someone is considered a necessary act. In this case, the dog owner didn’t have the dog on a leash, and when the dog chased the child, the grandfather acted to protect the child by killing the dog, which could also be deemed necessary,” Lan added.

Here's how netizens reacted to the viral incident

The Israeli military announced on Sunday (September 15) there was a "high probability" that the three hostages were killed in an airstrike carried out by the IDF in Gaza in November.

The announcement was made by the army while making public the investigations carried out into the deaths of Corporal Nik Beizer, Sergeant Ron Sherman and French-Israeli Elia Toledano.

The army said the investigations have revealed that the three hostages were killed in the same airstrike in which senior Hamas militant Ahmed Ghandour was targeted and lost his life in November.

The dead bodies of the three hostages were recovered and brought back to Israel in December.

Here's what IDF found regarding the death of hostages

"The findings of the investigation suggest a high probability that the three were killed as a result of a byproduct of an IDF air strike, during the elimination of the Hamas Northern Brigade commander, Ahmed Ghandour, on November 10th, 2023," said the military in a statement.

"This assessment is based on the location of where their bodies were found in relation to the strike's impact, performance analysis of the strike, intelligence findings, the results of the pathological reports, and the conclusions of the Forensic Medicine Institute," it added.

"This is a high-probability assessment based on all of the available information, but it is not possible to definitively determine the circumstances of their deaths," the military stated.

According to the investigation by the military, the three captives were held in a tunnel complex.

"At the time of the strike, the IDF did not have information about the presence of hostages in the targeted compound," said the military.

"Furthermore, there was information suggesting that they were located elsewhere, and thus the area was not designated as one with suspected presence of hostages," it added.

The three hostages were kidnapped during the October 7 attack by Hamas. The Israeli army found their bodies in December, however, the cause of death has been determined only recently.

Israeli military ‘probably’ killed three hostages in Gaza airstrikes, confirms probe

An investigation has been started against US supermarket chain Sam’s Club after a customer complained about finding a human tooth inside a mooncake which was bought from its mainland branch.

Uploading a video in Douyin, a woman shared a glimpse of the human tooth discovered in a meat-filled mooncake, which was worth 30 yuan (US$4), and was purchased in Changzhou in Jiangsu province of eastern China, Star Video reported on September 5.

The woman claimed it was not the tooth of any of her family members and that she had filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident.

According to a staff member at Sam’s Club in Changzhou, the company itself has been looking into the matter.

Here's how manufacturers reacted to the discovery of human tooth

Speaking to Hongxing News, the manufacturers of the mooncake said that it is “impossible to have a tooth mixed in the meat filling.”

A spokesperson said that all meat goes through mincing, after which it is checked using an X-ray machine that is capable of detecting bone fragments.

An investigation has been started against US supermarket chain Sam’s Club after a customer complained about finding a human tooth inside a mooncake which was bought from its mainland branch.

Scientists have been hunting the source which kick-started life on Earth and as new theories keep on emerging, a new study has hinted that perhaps it was the cosmic dust which began life on our planet.

In the latest findings, scientists have suggested that the mystery of the origin of life on Earth will most probably be solved with the thorough investigation of cosmic dust.

Earlier theories suggested that life began on Earth from "prebiotic chemistry," in which the formation of organic compounds took place, which then self-organised themselves till life developed.

The scientists noted that the rocks found on the surface of the Earth are deficient in reactive and soluble forms of the essential elements like phosphorus, sulfur, nitrogen and carbon, which were required for this prebiotic process.

In a paper published this year in the journal Nature Astronomy, the scientists noted that Earth has remained engaged in "fierce competition" for the limited reservoirs of such elements, which then raised questions about how life could have evolved in such conditions.

The most prominent theory has suggested that the ingredients necessary for life were delivered to Earth. However, the scientists were not able to explain how these materials reached the surface of the planet without getting spoiled.

Does the answer to the beginning of life on Earth lie in cosmic dust?

In the study published in Nature Astronomy, the scientists studied the fine-grained "cosmic dust" which is produced by the collisions of asteroids or the disintegration and vaporisation of comets when they move around in the solar system in space.

"In contrast to larger objects, the flux of cosmic dust to Earth is essentially constant on yearly timescales," scientists wrote.

"Moreover, some fraction of cosmic dust grains pass relatively gently through the Earth's atmosphere, thereby retaining a greater fraction of primitive" elements than large impactors do, they added.

The team stated that this material is not considered in prebiotic theories because it spreads across a large area and hence becomes difficult to get noticed or harder to study.

However, normal sedimentary processes do form concentrated cosmic dust deposits on Earth.

"There are many planetary processes that can concentrate fine-grained materials from across large surface areas to form concentrated deposits," the team said.

Collision of asteroids created cosmic dust and sparked life on Earth: Study

Ever wondered how spine-chilling the water of the Atlantic Ocean was on the fateful night of April 15, 1912, when the tragic RMS Titanic drowned in it along with the passengers onboard?

A Titanic Museum in Tennessee, United States, has now made it easy to imagine the bone-chilling tragedy by creating a replica of it and placing it as an exhibit for the visitors to come and experience it themselves in the museum.

A video was created of the visitors checking for how long they can continue to immerse their hands in this replica water, which is chilled at -2°C, and their reactions were such that the clip has gone viral.

The museum has 400 authentic Titanic artefacts, but what is standing out amongst all is now a bucket of water, which is at the icy temperature of -2°C.

Eno Alaric, who is @radianttimetraveller on TikTok, has more than 900,000 followers and is posting predictions about events in the future.

He had earlier warned about aliens visiting our planet, twin planets colliding with Earth and beginning of the World War 3.

In his latest post, he has come up with five catastrophic events which he claims will take place before the year 2024 comes to an end.

“Wild events to come in 2024…) “Many of you still don’t believe I am a real-time traveller so remember these five events to come in the final months of 2024," he began his predictions.

Here are five catastrophic events predicted by time-traveller

His first prediction is about the discovery of skyscraper-sized giraffes and other oversized animals in Australia. He said that this discovery will be made on September 20.

“Large versions of 70 different types of animals are found in a hidden part of Australia. This includes 3ft spiders, 60ft butterflies, and even giraffes as tall as skyscrapers," the time-traveller claimed.

He further predicted that the Sun would emit a different kind of energy on October 23, which would help humans in learning about their own mortality.

“The Sun lets out a rare and unknown type of energy that allows people to see how they pass. This happens to millions of people every day for about three months, some learn they never pass and have immortality," Eno stated.

He further predicted that a celebrity musician, who is believed to be dead, will reappear on October 25. “A very famous celebrity comes out and reveals he faked his own passing. He was known as a ‘legend’ and will be the most famous person on Earth when he returns to making music,” he claimed.

The last two events he predicted were the most catastrophic and worrisome, which are the disappearance of the Sun for a week and the discovery of an alien artefact that will spread a disease with no cure.

“November 9: The Sun disappears for a week straight, causing the world to go into its first Purge. November 12: An alien artefact is found buried beneath the ice in Antarctica. It contains a mysterious disease, it spreads quickly through the world, it has no cure," he stated.

The scientists in Mississippi have stumbled upon a new species of wasp, which appeared unreal to them because they lay eggs inside living flies after which the babies burst out of their bellies, according to a report published in Nature.

“At the time we didn’t think it was real,” said the lead author of the study and a biologist at Mississippi State University, Logan Moore, while speaking to Live Science.

The researchers have named this predator Syntretus perlmani and it is the first wasp which has been found to infect adult fruit flies. Generally, wasps are seen targeting the flies when they are younger.

The wasps are parasitoids and not parasites since they generally kill their hosts and parasites don't.

The wasp was discovered by a team of scientists when they were collecting a common fruit fly known as Drosophila affinis in their backyards in Mississippi.

How do these strange wasps lay eggs in live flies?

The female wasps, which have been named Syntretus perlmani, reproduce by pushing their hypodermic-like ovipositor, which is the stinger in stinging wasps, into the abdomen of the fruit fly for depositing its eggs.

The embryo then hatches and turns into a tiny spiky-tailed larva which gets formed inside the still-living host for nearly 18 days before it erupts from one side of its abdomen and leads to a fatal stomachache.

"It will effectively emerge out of the side of the fly," said Moore.

“Just to add an additional layer of horror, the fly will normally remain alive for several hours after that,” he added.

New archaeological evidence has suggested that the world's first cities did not come into existence in Mesopotamia or Central Asia, but actually emerged in Ukraine.

New archaeological evidence has suggested that the world's first cities did not come into existence in Mesopotamia or Central Asia, but actually emerged in Ukraine. In the Swiss Neue Zürcher Zeitung's recent publication, the researchers talked about the remnants of what appeared like “the largest city in the world” which were scattered pottery shards. These Trypillia mega-sites date back to 4000 BCE in Ukraine, which makes it the oldest urban settlement of the world. These archaeological discoveries not only push the origins of cities back in time but also, as per Euromaidan Press, “It sparks heated debates about early social organization, sustainability, and what a city even is.” Archaeologist from the University of Kiel, Joseph Muller, started researching these giant settlements in Ukraine in 2011, on the basis of the foundational research done in the 1960s. Also Read: 26,000-year-old human, animal footprints unearthed in Spain. It once was a settlement of... More than 250 sites were first identified by a military topographer which featured intriguing vegetation patterns like concentric formations that hinted at human construction. The researchers used geomagnetic techniques and unveiled structures hidden beneath the surface of the Earth, which included discovering Trypillia megasites that span more than 100 hectares. What are Trypillia megasites? The Trypillia mega-sites, which are among the earliest planned cities known, were not anything like modern-day urban centres. As reported by U-krane, the sites were circular or oval in shape and the houses were in concentric rings, with boulevards or wide corridors in between them. “These are the first planned cities of humanity,” stated NZZ (Swiss Neue Zürcher Zeitung) as it noted that the best site is better than Monaco in size and can be compared to Central Park. Watch: Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass urges German museum to return Nefertiti’s bust According to the evidence, the houses were made of wood and clay and were likely to have been burned down in an ancient conflict. “Individual graves are something with which the group of burying people represents their role to others. This reflection of social structures does not exist here,” said Müller. “If there are no graves marked in an archaeologist-friendly way, that does not mean that a cult of the dead did not exist,” he added. The new discoveries have challenged our earlier assumptions as per which urbanisation took place in the later period of human history. (With inputs from agencies)

In a rare medical achievement, a 21-year-old woman was able to grow a uterus inside her body with the help of doctors after discovering there was none, because of which she never went through puberty.

The woman, identified as Ashley Reilly, who lives in Western Australia, said that she was completing her primary school when her friends began menstruating and going through puberty.

“For me, it just never happened. I didn’t speak up about it, because I wasn’t really sure if it was normal or if I was a late bloomer,” she said, while speaking to news.com.au.

She consulted the doctor at the age of 16 and informed him she never had a menstrual cycle or had developed breasts. The doctor carried out the girl's ultrasound and found there was no uterus or cervix and her vaginal canal was also shortened.

Here's how the woman got a new uterus

The doctors diagnosed the woman with MRKH syndrome, which is a condition in which the vagina and uterus remain underdeveloped or absent even though the external genitalia appear normal.

In the next five years, Ashley went through countless specialist appointments, blood tests, MRIs and scans. The doctors administered her medication for the hormone oestrogen.

“The last scan I had was an internal ultrasound and they were like, ‘there’s your uterus’. I was like, ‘Excuse me’. I was shocked,” Ashley said.

“I didn’t know what to say, especially after all these years thinking there’s nothing there. I still can’t really get over it,” she added.

A specialist told Ashley that the growth of the uterus was "rare" and added that people generally fail to “grow” the uterus by simply taking medication for oestrogen.

She was informed that if the uterus continues to grow, then there is a possibility of her becoming pregnant.

According to the doctors, once her medication is changed a little, she will be able to even get her periods.

However, Ashley was found to have developed scoliosis because of the hormones and her bone density and size have been like that of a 14-year-old.

She was then diagnosed with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, also called hypo hypo, in which little to no sex hormones are produced in the ovaries because of an issue with the pituitary gland.
