In a win-win situation, an Australian couple miraculously won a $1 million lottery twice in one week after scratching the tickets. The couple living in Dapto, Wollongong were overjoyed when they found out that they won the lottery not once but twice in the same week after the husband confirmed purchasing the same entry twice.

However, the lucky man's lottery hour began on an angry note. “It’s actually a funny story as to why we ended up with the same entry twice,” the lotto winner said.

The husband said his wife was angry with him because he had forgotten to submit the ticket numbers chosen by her last week.

To make up for the forgotten ticket numbers last week, the man decided to “put them on twice”. So, the husband bought two lotto tickets from two different news stands in Dapto using the same numbers which are being submitted by his wife for three decades.

The husband's gesture to seek forgiveness soon proved fortuitous after the couple won the lotto not once but twice.

“This morning she kept crossing off number after number on her ticket, and once we realised we’d won $1 million (roughly $668,000) on one ticket, I thought I should probably tell her about the second identical ticket too,” the newly-minted multimillionaire said.

The chances of winning the Australian lotto twice remain unknown, however, experts estimate that the chances of purchasing one winning ticket are one in 1.845 million.

“I can’t believe this has happened to us,” said the husband. Unlike other lotto winners who start splurging the money, the couple plans to use their $2 million to help the family members.

“My mind is racing with all the things I can do for my family. I can buy my daughter a house. I can set up the children and grandchildren for the future,” said the woman.

Angry wife makes Australian couple win $1mn lottery twice in a week

Nineteen children died in India's West Bengal so far this year after suffering from acute respiratory infections, and thousands remain hospitalised as the nation fights an adenovirus outbreak.

Since January, more than 12,000 cases of adenovirus were recorded in the state. People have admitted more than 3,000 children to the hospital with severe flu-like symptoms.

The Association of Health Service Doctors warned that there are chances of the number of cases and deaths turning out to be much higher than official statistics.

Some local media have reported the death toll to be more than 100 children. The healthcare system of the state is struggling to cope. Few hospitals have claimed that their paediatric wards are full, and reports have emerged that children have been forced to share their hospital beds.

Adenoviruses are said to cause eye, stomach and respiratory infections. Health officials stated that two mutated adenovirus strains have led to sickness and death of children.

The virus has also been traced in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The local government has set up helplines to answer calls from the concerned parents and the leaves of health workers have been cancelled by the Health and Family Welfare Department to deal with the volume of cases.

Instructions have been given to clinics to remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The protocols adopted during the Covid pandemic like social distancing and wearing masks have been introduced to slow infections, although the authorities have not ordered the schools to close.

“The magnitude and severity of the epidemic are unprecedented,” stated paediatrician Apurba Ghosh.

An eight-member task force has been formed by the West Bengal government to monitor cases and treatment. Doctors stated that the cases are being reported in children in high volume because they failed to build immunity to common infections during lockdowns.

“The primary healthcare centres in the state, which are the first point of healthcare intervention, are not equipped with health management for severe paediatric ailments,” said a healthcare official.

Dr Prabhas Prasun Giri, who looks after the paediatric intensive care unit at the Institute of Child Health in Kolkata, said that the state did not prepare to handle the huge influx of patients.

“As we live in the post-Covid era, we should be prepared for any such type of virus outbreak. This year, it’s an adenovirus. Next year, it may be RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). Another year, it may be flu,” he stated.

Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, who is wanted in Beijing and has close ties with Steve Bannon, a former political advisor to Donald Trump, was arrested by New York police on Wednesday and faced charges of bilking around $1 billion from people supportive of his anti-Beijing activities.

Wengui, along with still-at-large British co-conspirator Je Kin Ming, was accused by the US Justice Department of stealing funds from people who participated in an investment scheme so that they can purchase luxuries, which include a 50,000 square foot (4,645 square metres) mansion, a yacht and a $3.5 million Ferrari.

On Wednesday, a court official said that Guo pleaded not guilty but agreed to detention during an initial arrest hearing. A fire broke out in the building of his Manhattan penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park, a few hours post his 6 am arrest.

The arrest of Guo came nine years after the property billionaire left China in 2014 where he was facing charges of corruption and fraud even as he openly spoke about the graft inside the Chinese government.

The Justice Department said that Guo, using his Cantonese name, Ho Wan Kwok, leveraged his prominence as Chinese leader Xi Jinping government's critic while he remained in exile in New York where he built a massive group of online supporters.

Victor Osimhen made sure Napoli reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history with a brace in Wednesday's 3-0 stroll past Eintracht Frankfurt.

Nigeria striker Osimhen struck either side of half-time to ensure no slip-ups in Naples and help Napoli secure a straightforward, and deserved, 5-0 aggregate win.

Piotr Zielinski added Napoli's third from the penalty spot on a perfect night for southern Italy's biggest club, who Osimhen believes can go all the way.

"It's amazing to make history with this win. I'm happy to contribute to this win, we want to keep on going like this. It's beautiful to advance in this kind of competition," said Osimhen to Amazon Prime.

"We will keep on dreaming, we have the squad to do so (win the Champions League). I think we are on the right path. We have a great coach. We will see what the future holds for us, I think we have a good chance,” he added.

Luciano Spalletti's side are close to securing their first Serie A title in over three decades and an already remarkable season got even better with a place in Friday's draw for the last eight of Europe's top club competition.

They have been powered to an almost certain domestic triumph and a deep run in Europe by the red-hot Osimhen, who has now netted 23 times in all competitions for possibly the continent's most exciting team.

However Trapp could do nothing to stop Osimhen putting Napoli ahead moments later, the Nigeria international showing why he is one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world with a perfectly timed leap and header from Matteo Politano's hanging cross.
