The Bihar police exposed a liquor mafia on Monday, that was found to be operating in the graveyard located on the outskirts of Bihar's Sasaram town. The liquor mafia's illegal activities were busted after a group of people, who had visited the graveyard to attend a funeral, informed officials about spotting an open grave with some liquor pouches lying around it.

Police stated that they reached the graveyard where 25 litres of country-made liquor, kept in plastic bags, was recovered. The police officials added that there were at least 50 empty bags which were lying around the grave which indicated that large-scale storage, consumption and sale of liquor was taking place there.

Various charges were levied against activist Rehana Fathima under provisions of the POCSO, Juvenile Justice and the Information Technology (IT) Acts for sharing a video in which she was seen posing semi-nude in front of her minor, permitting them to paint on her naked body.

The judge stated that it was "harsh" to term such an "innocent artistic expression" as a way to use a child in a simulated or real sexual act.

India: Nudity of woman's upper body not always obscenity, says Kerala High Court

In the biggest-ever drug haul in the past two decades, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 15,000 LSD drug blots and arrested six people who were allegedly involved in a pan-India network of drug traffickers. They were using cryptocurrency and operating through the dark web.

Lysergic acid diethylamide or LSD is a synthetic chemical-based hallucinogenic drug and has huge demand among drug addicts.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, NCB Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh said, “We’ve arrested six persons in two cases and seized 15,000 blots of LSD drug… The commercial quantity of this drug is 0.1 gramme.
A decade-long global study reached “thrilling” and “unprecedented” results according to which a pill is taken once a day cuts the risk of death due to lung cancer by half.

Consuming the drug "osimertinib" after going through surgery dramatically deducted the risk of patients' death by 51 per cent, according to results presented at the largest cancer conference in the world.
Most cancer patients die of lung cancer in the world, accounting for around 1.8 million deaths every year. The results were obtained in a late-stage study led by Yale University and were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Asco) in Chicago.
“Thirty years ago, there was nothing we could do for these patients,” stated Dr Roy Herbst, Yale Cancer Centre's deputy director and lead author of the study.
Researchers find 'pill' that can cut risk of death from lung cancer by half

India's national capital New Delhi has been currently generating more than 1,100 tonnes of plastic waste every day, but only around 870 tonnes per day (TPD) is being managed or recycled, which leaves a gap of 242 TPD or around 22 per cent of the plastic waste load of Delhi, which finally either reaches the drains or ends up in landfills or contaminates the River Yamuna, as per the latest data.

A target of June 2024 has been set by the national capital to bridge this gap completely. Experts stated that officials may have to work much harder, especially considering that it was not able to implement the ban on 19 single-use plastic (SUP) items successfully.

Municipal bodies shared data during their meeting held with the high-level solid waste monitoring committee, as per which the current plastic waste generation figure of the national capital stood at 1,113.25 TPD, and only 871.25 TPD is being processed, leaving a gap of 242 TPD which needs immediate attention.

The committee was appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and is headed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

Programme director of the municipal solid waste sector at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), Atin Biswas said that waste segregation is the base for any city which is aiming to find a solution to its waste problem.

“At present, even this figure of 78 per cent of plastic being recycled seems fairly high, as Delhi is not segregating its waste like other cities. Only when that is being done, can waste be effectively separated. Until we achieve segregation at source, this target of June 2024 appears highly unlikely,” Biswas stated.

Capital's unfulfilled single-use plastic (SUP) goals

Meanwhile, the national capital is lagging behind its single-use plastic (SUP) goals. In Delhi, as well as other states and union territories, 19 SUP items were banned from July 1, 2022, onwards, according to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2021 which was issued on August 12, 2021.

Even though a ban was imposed, several items mentioned in the list are still commonly found in the markets of the city.

Capital's unfulfilled single-use plastic (SUP) goals Meanwhile, the national capital is lagging behind its single-use plastic (SUP) goals.
