<p>The solid inner core of Earth may not be completely solid at all, as per a new study. Unlike what is generally believed, the core is a hodgepodge patchwork of solid and liquid which flow all the way to the centre.<br />
<br />
The new research was carried out on the basis of faint echoes of earthquake waves which were seen bouncing back to the surface of the Earth from the depths of the planet. The research suggested that the inner core is more varied than what was previously understood.<br />
<br />
According to the findings, the inner core, which increases about a millimetre (0.04 inch) every year when the liquid outer core solidifies, is likely to have grown faster in the earlier times in the history of the Earth.</p>

<p>“What's more, there may be swirls of liquid iron trapped inside the solid core,” said study senior author Keith Koper, a seismologist at the University of Utah, in a statement.<br />
<br />
"A long time ago the inner core grew really fast. It reached an equilibrium, and then it started to grow much more slowly. Not all of the iron became solid, so some liquid iron could be trapped inside,” Koper said.<br />
<br />
There is no process to directly access the core, so Koper and his team took into account data collected from 20 seismometers which were set up to measure earthquake waves and also monitor for nuclear weapons testing.<br />
<br />
The team also focused on waves which were triggered by earthquakes of magnitude 5.7 or above, and are big enough to send vibrations across the inner core, as the seismometer read a faint echo.<br />
<br />
"This signal that comes back from the inner core is really tiny. The size is about on the order of a nanometer. What we're doing is looking for a needle in a haystack. So these baby echoes and reflections are very hard to see,” Koper said.</p>

<h2><strong>Composition of Earth's core 'inhomogeneous'</strong></h2>

<p>The key finding, which was reported in the journal Nature on July 5, was that the composition of the core was "inhomogeneous," or varied. In other words, the earth's inner core did not smoothly solidify and is made up of a patchwork of different textures.</p>

<p>"For the first time we confirmed that this kind of inhomogeneity is everywhere inside the inner core," said Guanning Pang, a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University, who participated in the research as a doctoral student at the University of Utah in the statement.<br />

Earth's 'not so-solid' core filled with swirls of liquid iron, says study

<p>A 5,000-year-old skeleton, which was discovered in a tomb near Seville, Spain, in 2008, along with an ivory comb, a crystal dagger, a flint dagger inlaid with amber, an ostrich eggshell and an elephant’s tusk and believed to be that of man, has now turned out to be a revered woman of her times.<br />
<br />
On the basis of the analysis of the pelvis bone, initially, a specialist identified the skeleton as a “probable young male” who died between the age of 17 and 25. The remains, which were dubbed the “Ivory Man”, started being researched by a team of European archaeologists, who called it a “spectacular” find.</p>

<p><strong>ALSO READ |&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/scientists-understood-ancient-shrimp-like-creature-as-predator-says-new-research-613102">Scientists understood ancient shrimp like creature as 'predator', says new research</a></p>

<p>Almost a decade later, a new molecular method was used by researchers in 2021 to confirm the gender of the skeleton as part of a broader study on its discovery. However, the results left them in shock as the “Ivory Man” turned out to be a woman.<br />
<br />
“This came as a surprise. So, this actually forced us to rethink everything about this site,” stated study author Leonardo García Sanjuan, a professor of prehistory at the University of Seville.<br />
<br />
The researchers discovered more about the woman and the society she lived in. “In the past, it was not uncommon for an archaeologist to find (remains) and say, ‘OK, this individual has a sword and a shield. Therefore, he’s a man.’ Of course, deeply mistaken, because it assumes that in the past gender roles were the way we conceive them today,” said García Sanjuan.<br />
<br />
“This technique, we think, is going to open up an entirely new era in the analysis of the social organisation of prehistoric societies,” she added.</p>

<h2><strong>New method to find the gender of skeletons</strong></h2>

<p>The latest method to determine the gender of old bones, which was first used in 2017, involves analysing tooth enamel, which contains a particular type of protein with a sex-specific peptide called amelogenin, which can be identified in a lab.<br />

A 5,000-year-old skeleton, which was discovered in a tomb near Seville, Spain, in 2008, along with an ivory comb, a crystal dagger, a flint dagger inlaid with amber, an ostrich eggshell and an elephant’s tusk and believed to be that of man, has now turned out to be a revered woman of her times.

On the basis of the analysis of the pelvis bone, initially, a specialist identified the skeleton as a “probable young male” who died between the age of 17 and 25. The remains, which were dubbed the “Ivory Man”, started being researched by a team of European archaeologists, who called it a “spectacular” find. ALSO READ | Scientists understood ancient shrimp like creature as 'predator', says new research Almost a decade later, a new molecular method was used by researchers in 2021 to confirm the gender of the skeleton as part of a broader study on its discovery. However, the results left them in shock as the “Ivory Man” turned out to be a woman. “This came as a surprise. So, this actually forced us to rethink everything about this site,” stated study author Leonardo García Sanjuan, a professor of prehistory at the University of Seville. The researchers discovered more about the woman and the society she lived in. “In the past, it was not uncommon for an archaeologist to find (remains) and say, ‘OK, this individual has a sword and a shield. Therefore, he’s a man.’ Of course, deeply mistaken, because it assumes that in the past gender roles were the way we conceive them today,” said García Sanjuan. “This technique, we think, is going to open up an entirely new era in the analysis of the social organisation of prehistoric societies,” she added. New method to find the gender of skeletons The latest method to determine the gender of old bones, which was first used in 2017, involves analysing tooth enamel, which contains a particular type of protein with a sex-specific peptide called amelogenin, which can be identified in a lab. Speaking about the latest method, Bioarchaeologist Rebecca Gowland, a professor at the University of Durham said, “It’s being used more and more now. It’s exploding a little bit, which is exciting. We are testing the limits… and seeing how far back in time we can go.” WATCH | Aliens: Are we looking in the wrong place? Kadupul Flower is a priceless plant which has never been sold successfully. It is only found in Sri Lanka and is the national flower of the country.

Bonsai trees are created after years of craft, generally with tens of thousands of dollars. However, Bonsai Pine tops it all with an estimated price of $1,300,000.

Shenzhen Nongke Orchid, an ornamental plant, is famous for its delicateness, rarity, and beauty. Although it has been artificially created, this orchid is one of the most expensive plants in the world. In 2005, it was sold at its highest price of $217,000.

Adansonii Variegata is loved by everyone for its broad leaves and is famous for being a high-end houseplant. A verified Adansonii Variegata can attract hundreds of dollars just for a root cutting. On Etsy, one of its exquisite specimens was purchased for $38,000.

Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma is found in southern Thailand and parts of Malaysia and has broad, rich green leaves. One of the plant sellers in New Zealand had posted it on the trading site “Trade Me” in June 2021 after which it was eventually sold for $27,100.

A tiny monster "esqueleto", in most rare plant stories, is sold for around $500. Because of its stunning leaves which look like a larger variation of the popular monstera Adansonii, this plant remains in high demand.

A medium-sized Philodendron Tortum in a six-inch container will normally cost over $400 in a plant shop. These plants grow swiftly and high humidity suits them well. They need more room for spreading their leaves out.

Small specimens of Philodendron Pink Princess with only two to five leaves sell for $100 to $300, and big plants with significant variegation may cost $1000 or more. This plant needs care like any other philodendron.

India: Delhi receives heaviest July rainfall in over 40 years, IMD issues 'yellow' alert

<p>A solar storm, which has been forecasted on Thursday, is likely to give sky gazers an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights that occur when solar wind hits the atmosphere. The phenomenon is likely to occur in 17 American states, including three in New England.<br />
<br />
Northern Lights, also called as aurora borealis, are often witnessed in Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia, however, the 11-year solar cycle which is expected to peak in 2024 will make the lights visible in the south.<br />
<br />
The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks made a forecast about the auroral activity for the regions on Thursday in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.</p>

<p>As per the forecast, if the weather conditions remain favourable, the northern lights will surely illuminate the night skies in the northern regions of these US states - Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Indiana, Maine and Maryland.<br />
<br />
The report published by the UAF Institute states, “Auroral activity will be high(+). Weather permitting, highly active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Iqaluit to Vancouver, Helena, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Bay City, Toronto, Montpelier, and Charlottetown, and visible low on the horizon from Salem, Boise, Cheyenne, Lincoln, Indianapolis and Annapolis.”</p>

<h2><strong>When to view Aurora Borealis in the night sky</strong></h2>

<p>The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Centre stated that people, who are planning to experience an aurora borealis, should move away from city lights and added that the best time to view the phenomenon is between 10 pm&nbsp;and 2 am&nbsp;local time.<br />
<br />
The visibility and brightness of the aurora borealis significantly depend on the level of geomagnetic activity. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be monitoring the activity closely&nbsp;as the date approaches. NOAA will be publishing its own forecast for assisting potential viewers.</p>

<p><br />
The last such event occurred in the United States in late April. Amid a geomagnetic storm, the aurora could be seen in 30 US states.<br />
<br />
Explaining the natural phenomena of northern lights, the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Centre said, “Aurora is the name given to the glow or light produced when electrons from space flow down Earth’s magnetic field and collide with atoms and molecules of the upper atmosphere in a ring or oval centred on the magnetic pole of Earth.”<br />

A solar storm, which has been forecasted on Thursday, is likely to give sky gazers an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights that occur when solar wind hits the atmosphere. The phenomenon is likely to occur in 17 American states, including three in New England. Northern Lights, also called as aurora borealis, are often witnessed in Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia, however, the 11-year solar cycle which is expected to peak in 2024 will make the lights visible in the south. The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks made a forecast about the auroral activity for the regions on Thursday in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. The report published by the UAF Institute states, “Auroral activity will be high(+). Weather permitting, highly active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Iqaluit to Vancouver, Helena, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Bay City, Toronto, Montpelier, and Charlottetown, and visible low on the horizon from Salem, Boise, Cheyenne, Lincoln, Indianapolis and Annapolis.” When to view Aurora Borealis in the night sky The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Centre stated that people, who are planning to experience an aurora borealis, should move away from city lights and added that the best time to view the phenomenon is between 10 pm and 2 am local time. The visibility and brightness of the aurora borealis significantly depend on the level of geomagnetic activity. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be monitoring the activity closely as the date approaches. NOAA will be publishing its own forecast for assisting potential viewers. <p>Freedom of Russia Legion's commander Caesar said that another cross-border raid inside Russia is being planned by his fighters as they are seeking to capitalise on the confusion that still prevails in the Kremlin&nbsp;post the mutiny by Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.<br />
<br />
“There will be a further surprise in the next month or so,” said Caesar, who is a spokesperson for the anti-Putin paramilitary group, in an interview with the Observer in Kyiv. “It will be our third operation. After that, there will be a fourth, and fifth. We have ambitious plans. We want to free all our territory,” he stated.<br />

The legion, which has more than a hundred Russian military volunteers, had carried out attacks in May and early June. In the attacks, they were able to capture border villages near the Russian city of Belgorod after a skirmish with the Russian army. Ten&nbsp;Russian soldiers were also taken captive by them. Caesar said that two members of the anti-Kremlin militia also lost their lives.</p>
