In an astonishing discovery, the astronomers have found a mysterious galaxy which is eerily similar to our own.

The distant galaxy, which is known as ceers-2112, was identified by an international team of researchers recently by analysing the images taken by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Near Infrared Camera.

Although the images did not reveal anything other than a hazy blob, after astronomers carried out further investigation by using a range of wavelengths, they saw a complex and barred spiral structure which appeared very similar to the Milky Way.

The galaxies are present in all manner of sizes, shapes and luminosities and some of them are blobby and large, some are irregular and small, and some are stretched out and gigantic.

As per the observations, barred spiral galaxies like the Milky Way did not exist before 8 billion years. However, a measure of stretched light from a newly found galaxy suggests that it may have existed two billion years after the Big Bang.

Even though the galaxy is still too faint to observe the details of its spiralling arms, a thickened bar seen by the astronomers in its centre is enough to convince them ceers-2112 is well-developed for its age.

"Nearly all bars are found in spiral galaxies," stated Alexander de la Vega, who is an astronomer at the University of California, Riverside.

"The bar in ceers-2112 suggests that galaxies matured and became ordered much faster than we previously thought, which means some aspects of our theories of galaxy formation and evolution need revision,” he added while speaking to science alert.

The galaxies are generally major concentrations of gas and dust which come together under gravity. The debris itself provides some of that gravity, and a significant proportion of it is believed to be made of dark matter.

After enough material gets collected in one spot, nuclear fusion takes place which helps in the formation of stars and planets.

A banana peel can be used in the trap to catch bugs in homes. Bugs get attracted to the peel's sweet scent and fly into the trap.

Methane gas is produced from banana peels which is 84 times more intense in comparison to carbon dioxide. They are used for making composite for gardening.

A banana peel can be used to remove a splinter painlessly by applying it to the affected area for 30 minutes. The peel contains enzymes which bring the splinter to the surface of the skin and make it easy to remove it using a pair of tweezers.

If a banana peel is added to the roasting pan when cooking meat or fish, it keeps the food moist and makes it more tender.

The acne and scars on the face get reduced if the fleshy side of the banana peel is rubbed for 10 minutes every day, as per skincare experts.

A rare discovery of an ovarian tumour was made by archaeologists while excavating an ancient Egyptian cemetery. The tumour was present in the pelvis of an Egyptian woman who was buried more than three millennia ago.

The tumour, which was a bony mass and included two teeth, is being seen as teratoma's oldest known example. Teratoma is a rare type of tumour which typically grows in testicles or ovaries.

As per the Cleveland Clinic, a teratoma can be malignant or benign, and usually, it is filled with various tissues like hair, teeth, muscle or bone.

Teratomas can lead to swelling and cause pain and can even trigger infection if ruptured. In today's time, the mass gets removed through a typical treatment.

Till now, archaeologists have found only four archaeological examples of teratomas, out of which three were in Europe and one was found in Peru. The latest teratoma discovered in the New Kingdom period cemetery in Amarna, Egypt, is the fifth archaeological case published so far.

Oldest-ever teratoma found in Africa, first such case for the continent

This is also the oldest known example of a teratoma and the first such case discovered in Africa. The archaeologists investigated four large cemeteries, related to Amarna.

In one of the tombs present in the North Desert Cemetery, which consisted of a burial chamber and a shaft, the skeleton of a young woman was found by the researchers.

The skeleton was wrapped in a plant fibre mat and it was buried along with various grave goods, which included a deity related to childbirth, a ring decorated with the figure of Bes, fertility and protection.

While excavating, the archaeologists came across a bony mass in the woman's pelvis which had deformed teeth in two depressions.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale's bioarchaeologist Gretchen Dabbs published the tumour's discovery in the International Journal of Paleopathology.

After ruling out other diagnoses, the bioarchaeologist and his team suggested that the presence of teeth within the pelvic region of the woman suggested that it was an ovarian teratoma.

The Bes ring hinted at the teratoma being symptomatic since the "magico-medical" object was kept in the left hand of the woman, which was folded across the woman's lap above the teratoma.

This meant that the woman "was attempting to invoke Bes to protect her from pain or other symptoms, or aid in her attempts to conceive and birth a child," the researchers wrote in their study.

"By 18-21 years, this individual probably would have been someone's wife," said Dabbs, while speaking to Live Science, but added that there is also "little doubt she was working in some fashion."

The lawmakers in Hong Kong have appealed to the authorities to take steps to prevent bedbugs from spreading in the city after a photo was widely circulated online in which bedbugs were seen on an Airport Express train, reported South China Morning Post.

The rail giant of Hong Kong, the MTR Corporation, on Friday (Nov 10) stated that a deep cleaning of the train was carried out by officials the night before after they received a report from passengers regarding bedbugs at around 9 pm (local time).

However, the company stated it did not find any such insects on the train.

In a message shared on the activist's Instagram account on Thursday, family members of the activist said she was taken to a hospital for a medical examination on Wednesday (Nov 8). She is suffering from heart and lung conditions.

"After being transferred to the hospital without wearing the compulsory hijab and returning to the women's ward, I ended my hunger strike," Mohammadi was quoted as saying in the press statement.

The 51-year-old veteran rights activist has been kept in Evin prison of Tehran. In October, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran".

Mohammadi's protest against hijab

On Monday, her family members stated that Mohammadi had started her hunger strike to protest against the limits imposed on medical care for her and other inmates and the compulsion that she and other women were facing to cover their hair in public in the Islamic republic.

The friends and allies, who had collected to meet Mohammadi at the hospital, were "threatened and harassed by Islamic Republic Security forces," said her supporters on Thursday (Nov 9).

Mohammadi has refused to wear a hijab, which is a head covering that has been made obligatory for women in public areas since the 1979 Islamic Revolution took place in Iran, under any circumstances. She further took the oath to continue to refuse to wear the headscarf.

Mohammadi, who was first arrested 22 years ago, has remained imprisoned for much of the last two decades for campaigning in support of human rights in Iran.

Since November 2021, the activist has most recently been incarcerated and has not been able to meet her children, who are based in France, for eight years.

The Nobel Prize announcement came at a time when Iran faced months-long protests after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.

Mohammadi's Nobel came in the wake of months-long protests across Iran triggered by the September 2022 death in custody of Mahsa Amini, 22, who had been arrested for allegedly flouting the Islamic republic's strict dress rules for women.

In October, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran". Mohammadi's protest against hijab On Monday, her family members stated that Mohammadi had started her hunger strike to protest against the limits imposed on medical care for her and other inmates and the compulsion that she and other women were facing to cover their hair in public in the Islamic republic. Iran's jailed Nobel Prize winner Narges Mohammadi ends hunger strike

An asteroid, as big as an aeroplane, is hurtling towards Earth at a breakneck speed of 34,727 kilometres per hour and NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) is tracking this space rock.

The asteroid is set to make its closest approach to Earth on November 9 when it passes at a distance of 2.4 million kilometres from the surface of the Earth.

Is the asteroid hazardous for Earth?

As per NASA, the asteroid's size is not big enough to be marked as a Potentially Hazardous Object. A celestial object which is at least 492 feet wide and passes at a distance less than 7.5 million kilometres from Earth is considered a Potentially Hazardous Object.

However, Asteroid 2023 VC is only 91 feet wide which makes it as big as an aeroplane. But, even an aeroplane-sized asteroid can have a potential impact on Earth.

The asteroid is part of the Apollo group of Near-Earth Asteroids, which are a type of Earth-crossing space rocks and have semi-major axes which are larger in comparison to that of Earth. The asteroids, which belong to this group, have been named after the humongous 1862 Apollo asteroid, which was found in the 1930s by German astronomer Karl Reinmuth.

This will be the first-ever close approach of Asteroid 2023 VC towards our planet in history. According to data collected by NASA, the asteroid is not likely to pass across any planet in the near future.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory tracks asteroid's orbit

The asteroid's orbit is being tracked by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and its characteristics are being studied by them as part of their near-Earth object programme.

Similar to other asteroids, Asteroid 2023 VC has also been formed through a process called “accretion”.

The process involves dust specks and tiny particles colliding with each other and sticking together because of gravity in a protoplanetary disc and eventually taking the form of larger bodies like asteroids.

Near-Earth objects (NEOs) like Asteroid 2023 VC are closely monitored by NASA and other space agencies to ensure they do not threaten our planet.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOs) use different methods to detect and monitor such objects, like using the Sentry system, comparing different images, funding related projects and conducting telescopic search efforts.
