“At the very beginning of quarantine, my hair started growing and every time my kids would see me, they kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair… During lockdown, I had a lot of downtime and became obsessed with Jack Martin, who did Jane Fonda’s hair. I shared those pictures with a lot of people going, ‘Hey, I want to do this’… I’ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am,” MacDowell shared.&nbsp;</p>

But her decision was faced with a lot of resistance from her team. “My managers had actually said to me, ‘It’s not time,'” MacDowell recounted. “And I said, ‘I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It’s time because in two years I’m going to be 65. If I don’t do it now, I won’t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper!” she was quoted as saying.&nbsp;</p>

MacDowell did have inhibitions about this bold move but that was based on the fact that she was ‘trying to figure out how I could wear wigs to please people’.</p>

&nbsp;“But then once I did it, it was just so clear to me that my instincts were right because I’ve never felt more powerful. I feel more honest. I feel like I’m not pretending. I feel like I’m embracing right where I am. I feel really comfortable. And in a lot of ways, I think it’s more striking on my face. I just feel like it suits me,” she added.&nbsp;</p>

And that was really irritating for him. Because when you’re a performer, it goes beyond taking pride in performing. It’s your livelihood, and suddenly that becomes challenging. I mean, beyond empathy, I couldn’t help but feel frustrated for him because the neurodegenerative thing — it’s rough… The thing though is, there was a diagnosis and the like, but when he died by suicide, it had progressed, but he was only maybe two years in,” he recalled. “So I don’t want to say it was a short period — it felt a lot longer than it actually was — but it was a period for him of, I think, intense searching and frustration,” Zak said about his father’s frustrations around his then progressing Lewy body dementia and the moments leading up to his death.&nbsp;</p>

“It was a spectrum that I would see — witnessed personally. Having at times some improvement, sometimes it didn’t help at all. It might have exacerbated the situation,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

Zak also rues not being able to be there for his father every moment of his life, although he mentioned speaking with him regularly. “I mean, we talked several times a week, but then it got to the point where you’re talking every day. I wanted to be there for him on a daily basis. I really wanted to because it can be really isolating, even if you’re with family and loved ones,” he shared.&nbsp;</p>

&nbsp;The celebrated actor-comedian’s son struggled with his own share of mental illnesses following his father’s death by suicide in 2014 that led him to drinking heavily and experiencing ‘some levels of psychosis’. &nbsp;Zak Williams was also diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).&nbsp;</p>

Since his father’s passing, Zak has become a mental health advocate, working with organizations that ‘focuses on developing mental health support communities in high schools throughout the United States’.</p>

“I actually found myself committing time to mental health advocacy as a means of healing that trauma. &nbsp;For me, it was very healing,” concluded Zak Williams.&nbsp;<br />

Hollywood filmmaker James Gunn—known for directing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and its sequel ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ among others—expressed his concerns over new-age superhero adaptations (from comics to films, that is). In an interview with a global entertainment portal, Gunn—who is gearing up for the release of his movie ‘The Suicide Squad’— called the recent offerings from this genre ‘really dumb’ and ‘mostly boring’. “We know about the way cowboy films went, and the way war films went… I don’t know, I think you don’t have to be a genius to put two and two together and see that there’s a cycle to those sorts of films and that the only hope for the future of the comic book and superhero films is to change them up. They’re really dumb. And they’re mostly boring for me right now,” he was quoted as saying. Gunn confessed to loving these adaptations ‘in the beginning’ and praised the advancement of technology, especially visual effects and CGI, which had made him fall in love with the genre in the first place. “When Iron Man came out, I was in. You’re able to make a guy fly around who looks like a guy flying around. And that was a beautiful thing to be able to do,” Gunn explained. ‘The Suicide Squad’ features Margot Robbie, Sylvester Stallone, Idris Elba, John Cena and others in pivotal roles. The film is slated to release on August 5 worldwide.
