“The negotiations in Doha was the backstabbing of our forces, the American forces and all those brave men and women in uniform who served in my country,” Saleh said.

The former vice president of Afghanistan said the exodus of Afghans from Kabul airport is only the tip of the iceberg, describing the situation akin to “aliens invading our country". He said Afghans are leaving the country from Kandahar, Herat and Jalalabad too.

When asked about what his resistance movement from Panjshir expected from India, Saleh said, “I’m not sure India will sit idle.”

“No country in the region wants to see Pakistan dominating Afghanistan and projecting its power from Afghanistan. Pakistan will pay a heavy price," he said.

“They are on the wrong side of the equation. They are helping terrorists -&nbsp;the Taliban."

Saleh was dismissive of the idea that the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/uk-warns-taliban-against-sealing-afghanistan-off-from-the-world-408365">Taliban</a> government will be different this time, adding they have no popular support.

“If we hold elections tomorrow, the Taliban will not be able to even win one provincial council seat. They are hated. They are seen as a proxy of the Pakistanis,” the vice-president said.

Little things like allowing a school here or an NGO there is not change, he said, characterising&nbsp;Taliban’s promises as a bid&nbsp;to buy sympathy.

“A lot of those who are engaging with them are not in Afghanistan. I’m in Afghanistan,” he said.

Asked about the Panjshir Valley resistance, Saleh said it is not how much land is in control but the substance of the movement that matters. “What is relevant is our message. Our message is hope and it hasn't died."

“To secure the rights of our women and girls, we do not need the US troops, we will do it ourselves. The strength of that message is shaking the Taliban,” he said. “Taliban understand that it’s not how many guns we have. They understand the strength of our message and narrative is what matters.”

Saleh said the resistance is not limited to Panjshir only. “Panjshir is now an icon. It’s a symbol representing the aspirations of a lot of people. We have become the capital of the oppressed Afghans... sentimentally and politically all Afghans are with us."

“The first thing we need is moral and political acceptance. We ask the United Nations and&nbsp;countries which have diplomatic ties with Afghanistan to read the Constitution. It is very clear -&nbsp;in the absence of a president, the first vice president automatically becomes acting president."

“What is very, very clear is that we are not surrendering,” Saleh said. “We will not give allegiance to an Emirate whose Emir has not been seen by the Afghans and most likely&nbsp;even tonight he is staying in an ISI safe house.”

"If [Taliban leader Hibatullah] Akhundzada is really in Afghanistan, they have to show him. He has to speak. Many of the Taliban leaders in Kabul now have come from Pakistan," Saleh claimed.

“Right now, both the economic situation and social situation are dire. Relations with neighbours, and international relations are facing serious challenges. Above all is the distrust of the public,” he said in an interview to WION’s Executive Editor Palki Sharma when asked about challenges that Iranian leadership faces.

Pressed on about who exactly the public distrusted, he said, “the people do not trust the managers and decision makers.”

Iran is undergoing several mass protests over water and power shortages. Police firing at protesters had led to deaths in July.

Ahmadinejad was one of the contenders for this year’s presidential election but he was barred from contesting by the top clerical vetting body, the Guardian Council.

“As a fundamental strategy, we need to do our best to ensure that we utilise the maximum available capacity.”

“We love the people of India very much. When we travel to India, we feel we are at home,” he said, adding. “The people of India are extremely lovely. They are so kind. There’s cultural proximity shared among the two nations.”

Pakistan needs to join this cooperation of Iran and India in resolving the issue, Ahmadinejad&nbsp;said, “because it is seriously being threatened.”

Fighting and withstanding terrorism is not a matter of war, he said, but&nbsp;a matter of cooperation and correlation between states. Terrorism is a political issue and if we suppose that it's a military one, then we would definitely face problems in resolving these issues.

“So Iran, India and others should come together and make plans to resolve this in the framework of political and humane issues.”

Ahmedinejad said the root cause of this jihadi group goes back to when the Ex-Soviet Union was dominating Afghanistan. At that time the US started training and preparing these terrorist groups in Pakistan in order to withstand the Communist Government's threats. This trend later on continued, he said.

“We have to ask the question, why the US had the Taliban take control of Afghanistan, that it was very intentional plot. Although, in the first place, that's gonna be a threat against Iran and India."

So when such a group is armed and it takes control of the country in those form within the framework of a government, this will soon definitely turn into a huge threat for regional countries, he said.

A terrorist group which is basically political and they have political views, they are gonna be a threat to entire region, including India, Pakistan, Iran, China, the northern states and Russia.

The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has made an impassioned plea to India to recognise her country, asserting that Kosovo is not Kashmir.

In an exclusive interview to WION’s Executive Editor Palki Sharma, Osmani said: “We once again call upon the Indian government to first of all recognise the suffering of the people of Kosovo from the [Slobodan] Milošević genocide regime, and secondly, recognise the reality on the ground that is not going to change.”

She was responding to a question about India not recognising Kosovo, which unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008. In 2011, diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks had shown that the US tried to pressurise India to recognise Kosovo. &nbsp;New Delhi is yet to recognise Kosovo, as it was concerned that a parallel would be drawn between Kosovo and Kashmir. Many of the member states of United Nations are also yet to recognise Kosovo.

“It’s just a matter of time when countries like India will join other democratic countries around the world in recognising the sovereign independent Republic of Kosovo,” Osmani said in an appearance at WION’s Global Leadership Series show.

She drew attention to&nbsp;what the International Court of Justice had said: that the independence of Kosovo is within international law and does not compare to any other place around the world. &nbsp;She said how Kosovo became independent makes it different from other regions, including Kashmir.

Noting that the dissolution of Yugoslavia had created several countries including Kosovo, she said “this is a reality that cannot be reversed.”

“It is extremely important for us that we have healthy and active ties with the Indian government, the Indian people,” she said, highlighting possible opportunities for cooperation in economic, political and diplomatic spheres.

“I do hope that we are going to have a chance to at least meet, so that the Indian officials can hear our side of the story. It’s a story of suffering , perseverance, but also of immense hope for the future.”

She asserted that Kosovo has never been the reason of wars or instability, “Quite the opposite. We have been pushing for stability.”

She pointed out that most of India’s allies have already recognised Kosovo. She said the ICJ ruled in favour of Kosovo independence because the legal argument was in its favour, and with the recognition that the situation there is different from other areas like Kashmir.

“We are free and independent today and I truly hope that we can sit down with the Indian government so that we can discuss how we can enhance our relations.”

Helping the Afghan refugees, therefore, is a matter beyond politics, she said.&nbsp;

Osmani said Kosovo will be receiving 2,000 Afghan refugees &nbsp;at one time till their visas to US or Nato member states are processed.&nbsp;

“Everyday we are welcoming more Afghan refugees…and we are proud that we are able to help the international community in this effort.”

Asked about controversies that some refuges are kept in Kosovo as they may pose a security threat, Osmani said they are in the country till their visas to go to the US or elsewhere are processed.

“This doesn’t mean they are actually terrorists or they have links with the Taliban.”&nbsp;

She said the procedure may last longer for some depending on the categories of visas they fall under.

“It has nothing to do with them being labelled as security concerns. We are not taking in people who have links with the Taliban. Quite the opposite, we’re taking people who fought the regime.”

She also pointed towards the two-step vetting process, one by the US and other by&nbsp; Kosovo authorities to screen the incoming refugees.

Describing the current Afghan refugee crisis as truly heartbreaking , she recalled that some 1 million out of 1.7 million Kosovars were forced to leave their home during the war.

Many of them were internally displaced persons and most refugees.

They were taken to other countries who opened their doors for us: United States, Canada, all the way to Australia, New Zealand. “Practically most of the world opened their doors to us.”

“We truly feel the pain though the political situation is different. We had paid a heavy price for the freedom and independence we enjoy today. Just in a matter of months we lost 13,000 civilians because they were killed by the [Slobodan] Milosevic regime. 20,000 women were raped…this puts us in a situation to really understand the human suffering of those who are fleeing from terror, repression that the Afghan citizens are facing now under the new rule from the Taliban,” Osmani said.

“These people are forced to plea because they believed in peace, democracy, justice and equality.”

The Quad-- a grouping of US, India, Australia and Japan -- is often perceived as coming together of countries to counter Chinese influence and increasing Chinese assertiveness. However, Quad countries have always maintained that it is not against any nation. In spite of this, the perception of opposition to China remains associated with the Quad.

"How do you deal with a challenge you would not spell out?" asked Palki Sharma-Upadhyay referring to Quad's denial of being against China and yet making moves that are perceived as such.

On this, Jaishankar drew attention to the diplomatic practice adopted by countries all over the world to be guarded in public about such issues. China itself does that, he said, mentioning the disparity between China's public stance over Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the "real reason" behind some of China's foreign investments.

On Afghanistan, Jaishankar said that US withdrawal was a "botched" one. He said that proponents of the withdrawal argue that it has made the US free to tackle issues like Chinese assertiveness while opponents say that US withdrawal created a power vacuum in Afghanistan.

India, in his opinion, need not look at US for solution to Afghan situation. Jaishankar mentioned that India was talking with possible partners like Iran, Russia and central Asian countries in this regard. He also mentioned that US-Pakistan relations were not in "greatest health"

Jaishankar did not sound too optimistic about United Nations Security Council reforms. He said that veto-holding countries too invested in the power were not keen to dilute their position in the council. But he also stressed that this did not mean that India should stop advocating for the reforms and a permanent position for itself in the Security Council.

China itself does that, he said, mentioning the disparity between China's public stance over Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the "real reason" behind some of China's foreign investments. On Afghanistan, Jaishankar said that US withdrawal was a "botched" one. He said that proponents of the withdrawal argue that it has made the US free to tackle issues like Chinese assertiveness while opponents say that US withdrawal created a power vacuum in Afghanistan. India, in his opinion, need not look at US for solution to Afghan situation. Jaishankar mentioned that India was talking with possible partners like Iran, Russia and central Asian countries in this regard. He also mentioned that US-Pakistan relations were not in "greatest health" Jaishankar did not sound too optimistic about United Nations Security Council reforms. He said that veto-holding countries too invested in the power were not keen to dilute their position in the council. But he also stressed that this did not mean that India should stop advocating for the reforms and a permanent position for itself in the Security Council.

Abdulla Shahid, the president of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on Tuesday clarified to WION that Myanmar did not speak at the assembly hall because it failed to make a request as per the protocols.

Speaking exclusively to WION’s Executive Editor Palki Sharma Upadhyay, he sought to put to&nbsp;rest speculation that the country now under a military junta was not allowed to speak at the behest of US, China and Russia.

Shahid said a committee will meet in November to decide whether&nbsp;Myanmar’s current UN Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun will be allowed to retain his seat.

“No country has decided that Myanmar will not speak. We have a lot of procedures here which are being followed. There is a committee on credentials who are meeting in November and their report will be adopted by the general assembly. So, it is up to the membership of the UN to decide on these things,” Shahid said.

When pointed out that Myanmar’s current UN Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun – appointed by Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government— was not allowed to address the assembly, Shahid said, “I am not aware of it. As the president of UNGA, I am not aware of anyone not allowing it. I am the person who either allows or doesn’t allow.”

When the president was asked if the Myanmar representative make a request to address the UNGA, Shahid said, “There was no request from the Myanmar delegation to speak."

"I just completed the general debate at the assembly hall and the list of speakers was exhausted. Meaning: Everyone who requested to speak were given the floor, in which 194 delegations spoke," he said, pointing out that Myanmar was the only one who did not make a request to speak.

There were reports that China, Russia and the United States had reached an understanding to prevent&nbsp;Kyaw Moe Tun&nbsp;from addressing the general assembly.

Kyaw Moe Tun is supported by the international community and has retained his seat at the United Nations following the February 1 military coup.

In May, the junta had appointed a former general to replace him, but the United Nations has not yet approved the appointment.

UN accreditation issues are dealt with by a nine-member committee, whose members include the US, China and Russia. It traditionally meets in October or November.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since Aung San Suu Kyi’s government was overthrown by the military in February, sparking a nationwide uprising that the military has tried to crush.
