The Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the 10th Muharram procession in Srinagar on Saturday, July 29. It is for the first time in 34 years that the government has allowed Shia mourners' processions. The LG paid tribute to Prophet Muhammad's grandson Imam Hussain and visited the Bota Kadal area of downtown Srinagar to participate in the main procession of the 10th Muharram-Ashura.

He also distributed refreshments to the Shia mourners. Sinha visited the area among tight security and offered 'chadar' to Zuljanah and paid homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain on the occasion. He assured full support to the mourners.&nbsp;

The LG was accompanied by&nbsp;Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Police, Vijay Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V K Bidhuri, SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal, and DC Srinagar.

Along with other provisions, strict security arrangements were made. The security agencies said that a foolproof security cover has been given for the Ashura procession.&nbsp;

The procession is going on peacefully and allowing the historic procession shows the "changing Kashmir".

"We have ensured a foolproof security cover for the Ashura procession, and it will continue till Imam Bara Zadibal, Srinagar where it will end. We have made foolproof security arrangements for the smooth conduct of Ashura, in which Shia mourners are taking out a Zuljanah procession from Bota Kadal area to Imambara Zadibal. Officials have been deployed on the ground since midnight to ensure deployment as per plan. Allowing the historic procession after a long gap reflects the changing Kashmir, and nothing is possible without the cooperation of all the people," said Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

The Shia community of Kashmir has thanked the LG administration for ensuring quality arrangements. They were happy to see LG Manoj Sinha participating in the procession. &nbsp;

After over three decades, Kashmir Valley is witnessing a revival in movie watching at cinema halls. With people queuing up to watch the movies on the big screen, the film culture is back in the Valley. Dharma Productions Rocky Aur Rani&nbsp;Kii&nbsp;Prem Kahaani is the third film in the last six months running houseful in the valley's lone multiplex.

Kashmir's lone theatre has received a bumper opening for Karan Johar'sRocky Aur Rani&nbsp;Kii&nbsp;Prem Kahaani. The pre-bookings done for the movie suggest that it will be houseful for quite some time. The theatre is running 4 shows of the movie every day.&nbsp;

''Rocky Aur&nbsp;Rani, first show fully booked, second show fully booked, I am not sure about tomorrow as it is Muharram and there could be restrictions but from Sunday onwards the shows are booked and it's going to be a big movie. Recently Karan Johar thanked the people of Kashmir, we are going to send him a video showing how people are showering love on the film. ''Oppenheimer I knew the first show would be a houseful, people were calling me on phone and social media asking me not to skip Oppenheimer. It must screen at Srinagar as well. We kept the promise and the kind of engagement is unbelievable. These kids are watching and discussing the movie as if they are students of history. It's a very relevant matter in my time. The first film to go houseful in Srinagar's Lone theatre was Shahrukh Khan starrer Pathan. It saw a massive response from the public in the valley and ran houseful for weeks.&nbsp; 
 
Not only from Srinagar but filmgoers from other far-flung districts of the Kashmir region came to the cinema to watch his film on a bigger screen. For the young generation in the Valley, the newly opened cinema halls are a novelty. They have never seen theatres in their lives.&nbsp; 
 
Kashmir had dozens of cinema halls till the early 1990s, but with the start of the insurgency, all the cinema halls in the Valley were shut down. 
 
''I have spent my 15 years in Delhi, and living there and not becoming a filmgoer does not arise. The first cinema hall has opened here, and I come here often, especially on the weekends, and spend time here. Watching movies in the cinema was considered a taboo but that is changing now. It's so good to spend time with family and friends at this multiplex. I am watching this movie because it's about family love. We should spend time with families and watch movies together. I would suggest everyone come and watch movies on screen, '' said Zainab Bhat, Local.&nbsp; 
 
The multiplex located in Srinagar's Shivpora area has three screens and a total seating capacity of around 520 people. And it's the third time after the reopening of the cinema in Valley, that Housefull boards have popped up outside the multiplex.&nbsp;

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani becomes third film to run houseful shows in Kashmir cinema halls

The government of Jammu and Kashmir allowed the Shia Mourners procession in the Kashmir Valley after three decades. It was after a ban for over 30 years that the administration led by the LG Manoj Sinha allowed the 8th Muharram procession of Shia Muslim mourners to pass through its traditional route from the Lal Chowk area in Srinagar.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir Police arranged for tight security arrangements while the procession was carried out by thousands of mourners. The J&amp;K government granted two-hour permission to the procession between 6:00am to 8:00 am (IST).&nbsp;

"The Shia community has been asking for permission for the last three to four years continuously and when the government decided to allow the procession, we accordingly put in place all the necessary security arrangements. The three-tier security arrangements are in place for the security of mourners,'' said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

The procession was carried out on the traditional route starting from Shaheed Gunj to the Dalgate area in Srinagar. The route was thrown out of bounds for the processions in the backdrop of, the eruption of insurgency and the law-and-order situation since 1989. The administration, after meeting several Shia religious heads, finally allowed the procession and put all security arrangements in place to prevent any law-and-order situation during processions.&nbsp;

"We sincerely wanted that the long pending request to carry the eighth procession through its traditional route be fulfilled. Finally, the procession has been allowed and they are very happy to see this happen after over 34 years of ban,'' said Asad Aijaz, the deputy commissioner of Srinagar.&nbsp;

The Shia community were thankful to the LG administration for allowing the traditional procession after over 34 years of ban.&nbsp;

India: Kashmir government allows Muharram procession after three decades in Srinagar

On the 24th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrations and tributes were paid by hundreds of people who had gathered at the Drass war memorial in Kargil district. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Navy chief admiral R Hari Kumar paid floral tributes to the martyred soldiers of the Kargil war.&nbsp;

Singh said that nobody has the courage to raise evil eyes towards India as brave soldiers are protecting every inch of the country, and if needed, they will not hesitate to cross the Line of Control (LoC).

"I am among the soldiers of the Indian army and that gives me strength too. On the occasion of Kargil Diwas, I am extremely happy to be here. I bow to those soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. I congratulate the whole country on the occasion. I cannot express how proud I am to be here," Singh said.&nbsp;

"It’s due to these strong soldiers that our nation stands. For the protection of the borders, the soldiers showed utmost strength which will always be remembered in history. Despite low oxygen, our soldiers never let their guard down. Kargil win was the win of every Indian," he added.&nbsp;

Singh was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff along with the tri-service chiefs. They visited the Kargil War Memorial in Drass and paid tributes to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1999 India-Pakistan war.&nbsp;

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that India has great respect for all other countries and also follows norms for international conduct, but its generosity couldn’t be mistaken as its weakness.&nbsp;

“Narendra Modi led government is very clear and gave free hand to armed forces to launch operation across the border if the need arises. At that time (1999) if we did not cross the LoC, it does not mean we weren't able to cross it. We could have crossed the LoC then, we can cross the LoC now, and will cross the LoC in future if needed,” he said.&nbsp;

Singh said, "I want to tell the countrymen that we have learnt so much from the Kargil war. The war between Ukraine and Russia is on for over a year. We need to learn from these wars. The war between those two countries is still on and the reason is the participation of the civilian population. In India, the local population should get ready to be part of any future wars as trained soldiers. The way every Indian army&nbsp;soldier is an Indian, every Indian has to be a soldier too."&nbsp;

Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, while addressing the media persons, said,&nbsp;"We have gathered here to pay tributes to those soldiers who gave a befitting reply to the enemy forces during the Kargil war. The sacrifice of the soldiers cannot be forgotten, and we will always be indebted to them for it. These peaks that you see around were captured by the enemy and our brave soldiers made sure to recapture all these peaks."

General Pandey said, "Air Force also played a vital role during the war as well. The local population also made sure to support the army always. In future, we might have to face more challenges and we have to be ready to face those challenges."&nbsp;

Kargil Vijay Diwas: India won't hesitate to cross the Line of Control, says minister

The celebrations are on for the 24th anniversary of the Kargil war in the Drass sector of Kargil district in Ladakh. The war memorial at Drass has been prepared to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil war. There is a huge rush of people arriving in Kargil to participate in the celebrations.&nbsp;

The Indian army’s war veterans from across the country have arrived to attend the celebrations and to remember the martyred soldiers of the Kargil War. Sources in the army say that Defence Minister Rajnath singh would be attending the main function on July 26. He would pay tribute to the soldiers who laid their lives during the Kargil War.&nbsp;

“Our surveillance has improved, our communication has improved, accordingly we are able to decide the firepower. We have new helicopters, and the soldiers are provided with the best arms and ammunition now. It’s far superior now,” Said Brigadier OP Yadav.&nbsp;

India lost over 500 soldiers in the Kargil War before they emerged victorious in recapturing all the peaks that were captured by the Pakistan army.&nbsp;

These enthusiastic movie-watchers are not just from Srinagar but coming all the way to the city from far-flung districts of the Kashmir region. Interestingly, this is the first time for the younger generation of the Valley as they have never seen a theatre in their lives. Kashmir had dozens of cinema halls till early 1990, but with the start of the insurgency, all the cinema halls in the Valley were shut down.

“I am a big fan of Christopher Nolan movies and since we do have one multiplex in the valley, I had pre-booked tickets for the movie. I took all my friends along to see it. And I must say I loved watching Oppenheimer in Srinagar,” said Mohsin Ahmad, a student from Srinagar.

While breaking all previous records, the Jammu and Kashmir government has said that over 300,000 pilgrims have visited the Amarnath Cave Shrine in the first three weeks of the pilgrimage. The government said this record-breaking feat happened due to improvement in infrastructure and allied services.&nbsp;

''With the addition of 13,797 Yatris who performed darshan&nbsp;on 20th July. The cumulative total stands now at 307,354. The figures are testimony to the fact that the government has developed physical infrastructure of electricity, health, roads, sanitation and treks besides ensured transportation services from road transport, helipad service and pony services,'' the government said.

Almost 30 government departments have been looped in to ensure seamless facilities to make Yatris feel at home. The enhanced facilities from accommodation, food, water, health care and pony service generated a positive response from devotees who undertook the yatra and encouraged others to embark on Amarnath Yatra.

''To make Amarnath pilgrimage a memorable lifetime experience for devotees, the potential of available resources was capitalized to the brim which ensured stress-free and tireless yatra. This year, the government made a twin axis from Pahalgam and Baltal to glow with lights from base camps to Holy Cave which helped to carry on yatra during evening hours," the government added.&nbsp;

The construction of two state-of-art 100-bed&nbsp;hospitals for the treatment of yatris and all the associated people is an example of seriousness shown by the government for boosting allied infrastructure. Besides&nbsp;the&nbsp;existing health infrastructure, every camp is manned by expert health teams who daily examine hundreds of Yatris and provide&nbsp;them medicines and advice.

Since the influx of Yatris is swelling with every passing day, the government also made sure that transportation facilities be provided to Yatris from Jammu to base camps in Kashmir. Besides, the helipad service is also available for the yatris who are willing to avail this facility.

''To keep a strict vigil on the nitty-gritty of yatra for smooth and peaceful conduct, the government established Integrated Command &amp; Control Centre which is integrated with RFID. This data-based science helps in effective crowd control management, traceability, avoidance of traffic jams and management besides coordination among all stakeholders on a real-time basis,'' the government further said.&nbsp;

Amarnath Yatra has become a centre of attraction for citizens of the nation and also to foreign citizens this year. Two&nbsp;US&nbsp;citizens, a Ukrainian woman, a group of 35 Nepali citizens and a group of 30 citizens from Malaysia were among the pilgrims who paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine.&nbsp;

In a major Cordon and Search Operation, acting on specific intelligence four terrorists were eliminated in a Joint Operation by #IndianArmy &amp; @JKP near Sindarah and Maidana villages in tehsil #Surankote of #Poonch district. Along with the terrorists four AK 47, two Pistols &amp; other war-like stores were also recovered. Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist-initiated incidents in #Rajouri &amp; #Poonch area. Search Operations are still in Progress," said Indian Army.&nbsp;

The terrorists killed in the operation are most likely foreign terrorists and their identity is being ascertained. The sources in the army said that it was being investigated whether the group was involved in Dhangri, Rajouri civilian killings and the attack on army vehicles in Poonch, among other incidents.&nbsp;

According to the Indian Army, the operation was started during the night after the suspicious movement was noticed close to the line of control. The Indian army started Operation Bahadur during the night only and while coming in contact with the infiltrators, security forces killed both the infiltrators. The search operation in the area still continues.&nbsp;

Two improvised explosive devices (IED) were recovered from the Wodhpura forest in North Kashmir. Indian Army in a Joint operation with Handwara Police recovered the IEDs near NH 701 early morning on July 17.&nbsp;

Based on information from a reliable source, Indian Army and Handwara Police launched a swift and well-coordinated Search and Destruction Operation (SADO) in Wodhpura Forest.&nbsp;

The operation resulted in the recovery of two sophisticated IEDs of approximately 5 and 7 kgs, &nbsp;concealed in the jungle area. The team immediately cordoned off the area with adequate security measures. &nbsp;The positive identification of IEDs was carried out by Indian Army's highly trained Explosive detection team equipped with Explosive detectors and Army Dog.&nbsp;

Further, the bomb disposal team executed a controlled detonation of IEDs, rendering them safe.&nbsp;

A thorough search operation was resumed by personnel of the Indian Army and Handwara Police in the general area of Wodhpura forest for any more IEDs or hiding militants. No loss of life or property was reported.&nbsp;

Based on information from a reliable source, Indian Army and Handwara Police launched a swift and well-coordinated Search and Destruction Operation (SADO) in Wodhpura Forest. The operation resulted in the recovery of two sophisticated IEDs of approximately 5 and 7 kgs, concealed in the jungle area. The team immediately cordoned off the area with adequate security measures. The positive identification of IEDs was carried out by Indian Army's highly trained Explosive detection team equipped with Explosive detectors and Army Dog. Further, the bomb disposal team executed a controlled detonation of IEDs, rendering them safe. A thorough search operation was resumed by personnel of the Indian Army and Handwara Police in the general area of Wodhpura forest for any more IEDs or hiding militants. Ahead of the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas, ‘Vijay Diwas&nbsp;Shastra Pradarshan’ is being organised by the Indian Army at Kargil on 15 and 16 Jul 2023. The Indian army is showcasing a varied display of weapons and equipment being operated by them, with special emphasis on indigenous ‘Made in India’ weapons and equipment which have been inducted as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The event was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding, Forever in Operations Division on 15 Jul 2023. A large gathering of school students, local residents and government officials including Deputy Commissioner, Kargil and Superintendent of Police, Kargil were in attendance.&nbsp;

At the beginning of the event, Colonel Balwan Singh, MVC, conveyed his thoughts to the citizens through a video message, wherein he shared his experiences of the 1999 Kargil War. He recounted the tales of bravery and valour displayed by Indian soldiers, during the capture of the Tiger Hill.

The event received an overwhelming response from residents of Kargil and adjoining areas. The school children and youth were enthralled by the display, as they got a lifetime opportunity to witness the functioning and handling of weapons and equipment and also could interact with soldiers. The enthusiasm of the young minds was quite palpable.&nbsp;

Indian Army organises 'Vijay Diwas' arms exhibition in Kargil

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Vice President of National Conference party&nbsp;Omar Abdullah walked from his residence to his party headquarters office 'Nawai Subah' on Thursday. Omar alleged that he was denied the security cover to come out of his house as he was scheduled to pay tribute to the martyrs of July 13.&nbsp;

"I had no intention to walk to the office today, I am not used to doing drama but today they forced me to walk to work. They did not give me the security to leave my place as I was scheduled to pay tribute to the martyrs of July 13. I will have to do such things if they don't allow me," said Abdullah. &nbsp;

He also said that the governments keep on changing. If this government changed the holiday of July 13 Martyrs' Day, then a new government can change it too. "The governments change, the decisions change. I am sure this phase will change too, like the way they cancelled the holiday of 1931 Martyr's Day, I am sure the new government will change this and other holidays too," he said.&nbsp;

While responding to the question about the future of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said, "They (BJP) can't ruin our future more, the supreme court has said that political affidavits will not have any impact on the final verdict. The day judges were brought here, this Gupkar Road was closed. If LG's cavalcade has to move, the whole traffic is brought to stand still. Is&nbsp;this what we call normal? Even for the empty cars which go to fetch LG from the airport, they stop the traffic, is that normal?" &nbsp;

Omar alleged&nbsp;that BJP is trying to distort the history of India. "There is an attempt to distort the history of India, why would they not distort the history of J&amp;K, look at the way entire chapters have been deleted from textbooks. The writers want to withdraw their names as history is being changed," he added.&nbsp;

The LG administration put up restrictions at the graveyard in old Srinagar where martyrs of 1931 are buried. The chief ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir used to visit the martyr's graveyard on 13 July to pay tributes to the martyrs.&nbsp;
