Ace Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is frustrated with a ‘random side strain’ that ruled him out of the remainder of the India Test series. Hazlewood suffered a strain on his right side during the just-concluded Gabba Test, ruling him out of the game and the series. Scott Boland will replace him in the XI for the Boxing Day Test at the iconic MCG starting December 26.
“Just frustrating really. Ticked every box heading into the (third) Test; I could understand if it was my side again, but it was just a random calf strain,” Hazlewood said during a chat with 7NEWS. “It’s just the timing again, they are only little 2-3 week injuries, it’s just the timing of it and missing big games is the frustrating thing, Obviously, do a deep dive into it and see what we can come up with … feels pretty random.”

Hazlewood played the BGT opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth but missed the following Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide due to an injury. Though he recovered in time for the third Test at the Gabba, Hazlewood pulled up ahead of the fourth-day play, injuring his right calf. 
“I’ve had a history of sides and calves; they’re probably the two things that have kept me out for the majority over the last four years. But yeah, I sort of just keep adding another layer to the defence, hopefully, get back into the gym, I’ve ticked a lot of boxes over the last 12 months,” the seamer continued.
<h2>Josh eyes return in Sri Lanka Tests</h2>
Considering Hazlewood will not return until 100% fit, the seamer expressed his desire to make a comeback for the away Sri Lanka Tests early next year. 
Though Australia still leads India on the chart for teams with better chances of directly sealing the WTC Final 2025 qualification, they must win at least two of the four remaining Tests to ensure a smooth ride into the finals. 
“That’s probably the goal; just take it as it comes over the next few weeks. No rush to get anything in a hurry, it’s just getting everything right. Probably take a few extra days here and there. Ticking things off and getting everything right,” Hazlewood noted.
Meanwhile, the five-match series between Australia and India is tied at 1-1, with two games remaining. 
Should the hosts win the remaining two matches, they will directly qualify for the final, but if India wins and completes the three-peat, they will reach their third straight WTC Final.

Meanwhile, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 case, India will play all its matches, including against host Pakistan and the knockouts, should they qualify, at a neutral venue, preferably Dubai, with Pakistan playing its games at home.
“The ICC Board has approved that all matches between India and Pakistan played at ICC Events during the current rights cycle from 2024 to 2027 (which are to be hosted in India or Pakistan) will be played at a neutral venue proposed by the tournament host,” an ICC statement read.

During an exclusive chat with CNN News18, Ashwin’s father, Ravichandran, made a shocking revelation about his son’s retirement call after day five of the third Test in Brisbane. He said although calling time on a career is a personal choice and that he has no say in that, Ravichandran noted that constant humiliation regarding Ashwin not being the number one choice spinner regardless of the conditions might have pushed him to take this sudden decision, something his father also got to know about at the last minute.

“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” Ashwin’s father said during the chat with the news outlet.
“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," Ravichandran continued.

The veteran off-spinner is India's second-highest Test wicket-taker with 537 scalps besides his name, only behind the great Anil Kumble, who picked 619 wickets in his decorated career. Ashwin also scored six Test hundreds, becoming the first player to notch up five or more Test centuries besides picking over 500 wickets.
Though several reports indicated a major announcement just after the Brisbane tie, no one outside the players and the team management expected Ashwin to hang up his boots.

The 19-year-old recently scored a hundred against India for Prime Minister’s XI, later hitting an impressive 88 for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield before creating history with his quick-fire 56 for Sydney Thunder on his BBL debut.
"I'm understanding the scenarios of the game and when to take on the game. Trying to mature as a batsman. Obviously, I'm going to make some silly mistakes, but I think understanding when to take the game on [is an area I've improved in],” Konstas said. 
<h2>Changes in Australia XI for MCG Test</h2>

Virat Kohli was left upset after an Australian journalist clicked his and his family’s photo upon his arrival at the Melbourne airport ahead of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. Kohli confronted the female journalist, who breached his privacy and recorded his arrival in the city with his wife and kids, irking the Indian batting great.
Per a video doing rounds on social media, Kohli wasn’t happy with the journalist snapping him without his consent; Virat approached her and requested to revisit what she clicked, later asking her to delete it. That, however, led to a little argument.

Virat’s form has kept a billion fans back home on their toes. The batting genius has been out of touch since the home New Zealand series, where he scored 91 runs from six outings. 
Against Australia, Virat got out cheaply in the first innings at the Optus stadium before notching up a brilliant hundred in the second, guiding India home in the series opener. His scores since that outing read 7, 11 and 3, keeping everyone worried about his lean patch.

Shahidi said: "I was very impressed with the way the openers batted. The credit goes to them. We outclassed them in all departments.

"When batting, I found the wicket a bit tricky. I believed we had enough runs to win. We gave 100 per cent and did well."

Atal, a 23-year-old who made his ODI debut last month, struck four sixes and eight fours in his 128-ball knock before becoming a victim of Newman Nyamhuri (3-53).

It was another dark day for Zimbabwe in the 50-over format after the first match against Afghanistan two days ago was called off after just one hour due to rain.

Zimbabwe share with the United States the unwanted record of the lowest ODI international score, having made just 35 against Sri Lanka in Harare in 2004.

Their 38 against Sri Lanka in Colombo and 44 against Bangladesh in Chattogram are among the seven lowest ODI scores.
