Dahal, better known as Prachand, has been Nepal's Prime Minister twice. Prachand and Oli were alliance partners in 2016, but they fell out over a power struggle. In 2018, they merged their parties and the two communist parties of Nepal joined hands to become one party.

This looked like an arranged marriage, with China playing the matchmaker. However, like all things made in China, this too may not last.

The differences between Oli and Prachand are insurmountable.

On Wednesday, 31 out of 45 standing committee members took a stand against Oli. This is the highest decision making body of Nepal's ruling party and it has turned against Oli. They all want him to step down. So, Oli prorogued the parliament, and bought himself some time.

Reports say, he is planning to bring in an ordinance now -- something that could delay the split of his party.&nbsp;

China's ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi has become deeply intertwined in the country's political setup. She has been spotted with top politicians of Nepal.

According to a report, the ambassador held a meeting with key leaders of the Nepal Communist Party in May. She convinced them to work together, instead of fighting each other. This intervention may have helped Oli back then, but things are very different now. China's influence is not limited to politics.

In 2019,&nbsp;the trade volume between China and Nepal touched 1.5 billion dollars. China is the second largest source of tourists in Nepal. It&nbsp;pulls strings in Nepal using its chequebook -- the&nbsp;money is being used to buy compliance.

China, by far, is the biggest aid provider for Nepal. Its grant is valued at 106 million dollars. In return, it gets more access.

China picked up 25 reconstruction projects after the earthquake in 2015. China is building its soft power too.

Last year, several private schools in Nepal made Mandarin a compulsory subject for students.

The study was conducted on&nbsp;Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana, as well as three virtual assistants exclusive to the Chinese market, from Xiaomi, Baidu, and Tencent, according to a report from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum news blog.

The researchers conducted the study by switching on the virtual assistants and leaving them alone in a room with a television playing episodes from several series and sitcoms such as&nbsp;Game of Thrones, Modern Family, and House of Cards, with English, German, and Chinese audio tracks for each.

On playing these episodes, some words activated the system, which the researchers observed by the&nbsp;switching on of&nbsp;an LED light display. The team cross referenced the dialogue being spoken every time they observed the LED display turning on.

Once the assistants get&nbsp;activated by these words, the devices&nbsp;use local speech analysis software to determine if the sound was used with the purpose of activation or not. If the device concludes that the sound was a trigger, it sends&nbsp;an audio recording of several seconds to cloud servers for additional analysis.

Privacy concerns

While the researchers said that the developers might have used an array of words for activation to make things easier for the users, it does raise serious privacy concerns about this.

"The devices are intentionally programmed in a somewhat forgiving manner, because they are supposed to be able to understand their humans. Therefore, they are more likely to start up once too often rather than not at all," researcher Dorothea Kolossa said.

"From a privacy point of view, this is of course alarming, because sometimes very private conversations can end up with strangers.&nbsp;From an engineering point of view, however, this approach is quite understandable, because the systems can only be improved using such data. The manufacturers have to strike a balance between data protection and technical optimization," said&nbsp;Thorsten Holz, Professor at&nbsp;Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), a ruling ally of the Imran Khan government, has opposed the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad, asking its coalition partner to scrap the project as it is "against the spirit of Islam."

Last week, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of the first Hindu temple in Islamabad. Prime Minister Khan had approved a grant of Rs 10 crore for the construction of the temple.

"Pakistan was created in the name of Islam. Construction of a new Hindu temple in its capital is not only against the spirit of Islam but also an insult to Riayasat-e-Madina (Islamic welfare state)," Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said.

Reacting to the objection of its ally, Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chohan from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party said that despite opposition from some parties the temple project will go ahead as per plan.

"The land for the Hindu temple was allocated in 2016 by the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government. Basically it was the project of the PML-N government," he said.

As per plans, the Krishna temple will come up in a 20,000 sq ft plot in the capital's H-9 area. The groundbreaking ceremony for the temple was performed by Parliamentary Secretary on Human Rights Lal Chand Malhi last week.

Malhi said there were several pre-independence era temple structures in Islamabad and its adjoining areas, including one at Saidpur village and at the hill point overlooking the Korang river near Rawal lake. However, they are all abandoned.

"While the official formalities are underway, we have decided to continue the initial ground works including the levelling of the land and erecting the boundary wall," Malhi said.

The Hindu population in Islamabad is around 3,000, which includes government and private sector employees, members of the business community and a large number of doctors.

The Hindu Panchayat Islamabad will manage the Shri Krishna Mandir. The panchayat's president Mahesh Chaudhry said a large number of people from various parts of the country, including Balochistan and Sindh, had shifted to Islamabad, mainly due to insecurity in those areas.

"Now when we have families here, there is a need for a crematorium, a place for collective prayers and marriage ceremonies," Chaudhry said.

Hindus form the biggest minority community in Pakistan.

British Police, on Thursday, claimed to have carried out their biggest operation ever in which they caught "iconic" figures.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has claimed to smash thousands of conspiracies, including murder plots, as the agency was able to crack the encryption system of EnroChat, the communication system which was being used by several criminals.

"Together we’ve protected the public by arresting middle-tier criminals and the kingpins, the so-called iconic untouchables who have evaded law enforcement for years, and now we have the evidence to prosecute them," said NCA Director of Investigations Nikki Holland.

The operation has been helpful for other European agencies too, who have been able to get ahead of criminal activities using this&nbsp;information.

He also hinted towards a phase-wise unlock very soon.

"We are seeing a lot of places where flattening of the curve has started like Sangli, Malegaon, and Solapur etc. Spread will increase it`s true, but we can`t close down everything including stopping economic activities. But there are certain places where lockdown can be imposed locally to contain the spread," he said.

He also added that the anti-viral drugs&nbsp;Remdesivir and&nbsp;Favipiravir will be made available in all districts of the state soon. The medicines will be free of cost in the government hospitals.

California regulators sued Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO.O) on Tuesday, accusing it of discriminating against an Indian-American employee and allowing him to be harassed by two managers because he was from a lower Indian caste than them.

A Starbucks barista,&nbsp;Lenin Gutierrez, followed the same protocol during his shift at the Genesee Avenue, San Diego branch. He asked a customer to wear a face mask before purchasing her coffee. The customer,&nbsp;Amber Lynn Gilles, did not take the advice in good spirit and lashed out at him before he could even show her the company guidelines.

Some people even commented that they wish they could visit the Starbucks branch to appreciate Lenin through tips. This led to a GoFundMe page by a commentor Matt Cowan. The 26-year-old felt Lenin, whom he did not know personally, was being bullied for doing the right thing, and therefore he thought of helping Lenin through whatever way possible.

Matt, initially set up the goal amount to&nbsp;$1,000. However, Lenin has now received nearly&nbsp;$80,000 as virtual tip through this page.

Lenin, later, expalined his side of the story in a Facebook video, in which he explained the whole interaction he had with Amber and how she "flipped" him off. He also admitted that he did not intercept that she would post on Facebook and it would become such a big issue.

Lenin now hopes to help those in need and fulfill his passion of becoming a dancer with this donation.

Bihar Special Branch has issued a high alert to all districts in the state after a warning was issued regarding possible terrorists from Taliban and Jaish-e-Mohammad entering the state through the Nepal border.

"As per an input, a threatening email was received on NIA control room indicating a hit list having names of Hon`ble Union Home Minister and other BJP Leaders. Please keep a lookout for the movements of Kashmiri terrorists, Muslim Fundamentalists ie Jaish-e-Mohomed, Al Qaeda and all Pakistan, Taliban, Afganistan, Jihad, terrorist organisation, Islamic Terrorist Organisation, Left-wing extremist elements, and North-eastern Insurgent Groups, All India Security Suspect and Rabid Communalists who could threaten the security of the VVIP," read the alert.

"Requested to keep a close watch in your jurisdiction from now onwards till the VVIP visits are over. A watch would also be required individuals who have come to notice for addressing threatening letters to VVIP and those noticed moving under suspicious circumstances near VVIP locations," it added.

Local police authorities may also be sensitised to such threats, the order stated.
