Trinamool Congress parliamentarian and one of India’s opposition members Kalyan Banerjee again mocked Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and said that he would continue “a thousand times”.

Speaking at an event in Seramore in West Bengal state on Saturday (Dec 23), Banerjee, who has been suspended from the house, said that mocking the vice president is “an art form”, and a fundamental right of expression.

“I will keep doing the mimicry.&nbsp;It is an art form. If needed, I will do it a thousand times. I have all the fundamental rights to express my views. You can put me in jail. I will not step back,” said Banerjee, who is one of the Members of Parliament who has been suspended from the house.

The TMC MP further criticised Dhankhar saying that he was getting upset over a ‘frivolous issue’.

A political row had erupted a few days earlier after a video of Banerjee appearing to mock Dhankar outside the parliament went viral. The clip was reportedly recorded by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Banerjee’s mimicry had come in the backdrop of Dhankhar, who is also the chairman of Rajya Sabha, suspending a record 146 MPs for “unruly conduct” after they demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Parliament security breach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu spoke to Dhankhar following the incident and expressed their support.

Banerjee reportedly claimed that he was merely following the footsteps of the prime minister and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who, he claims, also mocked the opposition.

“We took them sportingly. Now if he starts crying without understanding the joke, there is nothing I can do...,” Banerjee said, mocking that “Dhankhar cried like a child”.

Responding to the whole controversy Dhankhar put forth his perspective by highlighting his role as a 'sufferer' despite holding one of the highest public offices.

Dhankhar emphasised the need for integrity and high ethical standards, acknowledging the pressures faced in the service of Bharat Mata (mother India).

He also said that the Trinamool MP's “shameful” act of mimicry had pained him and that he had been insulted as a farmer's son from the Jat community. He had also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for filming Banerjee's act.

In a bid to sinicise Christian festivities and tighten control over organised religion, Beijing’s top political adviser Wang Huning has asked the Chinese Christian groups to ensure “strict” management of religious affairs.

While meeting with Protestant religious leaders during their once in five years national congress in Beijing last week, Wang asked the groups to guide Protestant figures and believers to be patriotic and enhance their identification with the nation, Chinese culture, the party, and socialism with Chinese characteristics, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

The call from Wang came days after the 11th National Chinese Christian Congress, held over Wednesday and Thursday, elected new leaders for the two state-sanctioned Protestant groups in the country.

<h2>'Sinicisation of Christianity'</h2>

He said that Christian groups “should adhere to the direction of Sinicisation of Christianity” and “interpret the doctrines that conform to the development and progress requirements of contemporary China, the&nbsp;core values of socialism&nbsp;and the excellent traditional Chinese culture”.

He also urged them to “adhere to comprehensive and strict governance of religions, and carry out religious activities in accordance with laws and regulations”.

The sinicsation of religion is a by-product of Xi Jinping’s overarching policy to control all facts of the religious practices in the Communist Party-ruled country, which officially practices atheism.

But it recognises five religions—Buddhism, Catholicism, Daoism, Islam, and Protestantism.

About&nbsp;7.4 per cent of China's total population identify themselves&nbsp;as Christians, according to Boston University’s 2020 World Religion Database.

Of those, around 90 per cent of Christians in China identify themselves as Protestant, a Pew Research Centre analysis of the latest available survey data collected by academic organisations in China showed.

<h2>Xi tightens grip on religious affairs&nbsp;</h2>

In December 2021, during a religious work conference, Xi had said that the religious groups should study the history of the Chinese Communist Party and strengthen the governance of online religious affairs.

Beijing’s top govt advisor asks Christian community groups to align beliefs with Chinese culture

The Israeli military released chilling footage of what is said to be the inside of a huge tunnel dug up by the Hamas terrorist group where five Israeli hostages were found dead.

The clip shows the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) gathering at the entrance of the tunnel, which is said to be&nbsp;more than 32ft below schools and hospitals in Jabalia city, north of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military believes that the passage, which was discovered during the military raid carried out to ‘dismantle' the Hamas operation, was the “underground headquarters” of the terrorist group in North Gaza.

<h2>Bodies discovered earlier this month&nbsp;</h2>

Eylon Levy, the spokesperson for Israel's armed forces, said the bodies of three soldiers —Warrant Officer Ziv Dado, Sergeant Ron Sherman, and Corporal Nik Beizer —as well as of Eden Zacharia and Elia Toledanon, taken from the Nova festival during the October 7 attacks, were discovered at the site earlier this month.

In a statement published on X on Sunday (Dec 2) evening, Levy said, “The IDF has completed an extensive operation to dismantle Hamas' northern underground headquarters in Gaza, revealing underground infrastructure where IDF soldiers discovered hostages’ bodies.”

“In fierce battles to secure the Hamas stronghold of Jabalia, the IDF exposed a strategic tunnel network that served as Hamas' northern headquarters in Gaza. The first level was 10m deep under the city, the second dozens of meters deep,” he said.

“In the Hamas underground terror network, the IDF recovered the bodies of five 10/7 hostages: Warrant Officer Ziv Dado, Sergeant Ron Sherman, Corporal Nik Beizer, Eden Zacharia, and Elia Toledano. May their memory be a blessing,” he added.

President Vladimir Putin has been signalling through his intermediaries that Russia is willing to have a ceasefire negotiation with Ukraine, the New York Times (NYT) reported citing unnamed former Russian officials, along with American officials.

Since last September, Putin has been looking to stop “fighting along the current lines”, and that he may even be willing to accept a deal that seeks to put a stop to the two-year-long war.

“They say, ‘We are ready to have negotiations on a ceasefire’,” one&nbsp;senior international official who met with top Russians this fall, told the NYT newspaper.&nbsp;

“They want to stay where they are on the battlefield,” the official added.

<h2>Putin willing to stop</h2>

But what Putin seeks is the status quo of the current troops' position, rather than a complete cessation of territories occupied during the long-drawn war, the officials said.

“He really is willing to stop at the current positions,” one of the former senior Russian officials told The New York Times, relaying a message he said the Kremlin was quietly sending. The former official added, "He’s not willing to retreat one&nbsp;metre.”

However, it is unclear if the Ukrainian officials are willing to accept an armistice deal at this point given that they had vowed to take back the territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea.

The officials argued that Putin’s change in stance stems from a failed Ukrainian counteroffensive, a stalemate in the battleground and lack of willingness from the West to provide military aid.

A woman from Alabama, US, gave birth to twins in two consecutive days after 20 hours in labour, in what is being described as a "one in a million" pregnancy.

Kelsey Hatcher (32) birthed one daughter on Tuesday (Dec 19), and a second one on Wednesday, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital said on Friday.

The girls were described as fraternal twins —with rare separate birthdays.

Announcing the arrival of her "miracle babies" on social media, Hatcher praised the doctors, calling them "incredible".

<h2>'Never planned a pregnancy like this'</h2>

In a separate statement in the hospital’s press release, she said, “Never in our wildest dreams could we have planned a pregnancy and birth like this … but bringing our two healthy baby girls into this world safely was always the goal, and UAB helped us accomplish that.”

“It seems appropriate that they had two birthdays, though. They both had their own ‘houses’, and now both have their own unique birth stories,” she said.

Hatcher first found out that she had a double uterus (uterus didelphys) at the age of 17. According to medics, this phenomenon is rare and affects only 0.3 per cent of women.

Furthermore, the chances of becoming pregnant in both uteri —a dicavitary pregnancy —are even rare, the UAB said.

The last time such a medical anomaly occurred was in 2019 in Bangladesh when a woman with two uteruses gave birth almost a month after delivering a premature baby in her other uterus, according to BBC.

This was Kelsey Hatcher’s fourth pregnancy. She has previously delivered babies from one uterus at a time only.

<h2>'Once in a million pregnancy'</h2>

But the fact she came to know about carrying two babies in separate uteruses when she went for an ultrasound check-up after noticing bleeding weeks into the latest pregnancy. She wanted to take preventive measures as there are higher chances of miscarriages for those with double uteruses.

During the appointment, doctors found that Hatcher had an additional foetus forming in her left uterus.

“As soon as she moved the wand to the other uterus, I gasped,” Hatcher said in the hospital press release. “Sure enough, there was another baby. We just could not believe it.”

But before the rumour mills could begin, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) promptly issued a clarification debunking Hall's claim.

It said that there is "no such thing" as a black mountain lion, officially known as the Puma species, USA Today reported.

The species has many different common names, including puma, cougar, or panther.

"However, there can be melanistic jaguars (Panthera onca) and melanistic leopards (Panthera pardus), but of course, neither of those are in Texas," TPWD said in a statement.

"To note though there can also be melanistic bobcats. Jaguarundis, like jaguars, have not been confirmed in Texas for many decades."

<h2>Can it be a jaguar?</h2>

The last documented jaguar in Texas was in 1948, according to TPWD.

The state agency believes that the creature photographed in Walker County on Saturday was most likely a house cat, though the quality of the photo makes it difficult to determine.

"It is certainly not a mountain lion based on the tail length (or a jaguarundi)," TPWD wrote. "Size can be tough to tell in photos and unless you have a good reference, 'apparent size' is often misleading."

Colorado Supreme Court judges—who ruled against Donald Trump, prohibiting him from contesting in the state's primary next year citing his role in the Jan 6 attacks—have been receiving online threats, according to a report.

The report by Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organisation that conducts public interest research, has claimed to have found "significant violent rhetoric" against the justices and Democrats on the Trump-owned social media platform Truth Social.

They found that some social media users posted justices' email addresses, phone numbers and office building addresses, reports NBC News.

"This ends when we kill these f--kers," a user wrote on a pro-Trump forum that was used by several Jan. 6 rioters.

"What do you call 7 justices from the Colorado Supreme Court at the bottom of the ocean?" asked another user. "A good start."

Many of the online hate posts had details about the methods that can be used to kill Trump’s so-called enemies.

Speaking to NBC News, President of the Advance Democracy Daniel J Jones expressed concerns over the consistency of the violent threats and rhetoric being used against the judges.

“We are seeing significant violent language and threats being made against the Colorado justices and others perceived to be behind yesterday’s Colorado Supreme Court ruling," Jones, a former FBI investigator and staffer for the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement.

"The normalisation of this type of violent rhetoric — and lack of remedial action by social media entities — is cause for significant concern," he said.

"Trump’s statements, which have sought to delegitimize and politicize the actions of the courts, is serving as a key driver of the violent rhetoric. Political leaders on both sides of the political aisle need to speak out against these calls for violence, and social media platforms need to reassess their role in hosting and promoting this rhetoric.”

Colorado Supreme Court judges receiving online hate after ruling against Donald Trump: Report

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) has said that Hamas's top leader Yahya Sinwar narrowly evaded capture during its combat operations in southern Gaza.

According to Israeli media reports on Wednesday (Dec 20), Sinwar is believed to be hiding in tunnels under Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis, after fleeing the north by hiding in a humanitarian convoy moving to the south during the early days of the terror group’s war with Israel.

It is reported that Sinwar managed to escape just before the Israeli forces arrived.

According to Channel 13, IDF has been primarily focusing its operations around Khan Younis city in order to achieve its goal of killing Sinwar.

On Sunday, they raided the homes of several Hamas leaders, Sinwar being one of them.

<h2>Sinwar evading capture&nbsp;</h2>

The IDF intelligence believes that Sinwar has never remained stationary in one place and has constantly been on the move for an extended period.

On December 6, the IDF reportedly surrounded his home in Khan Younis despite there being no indication that he was residing there. It is understood that he owns multiple homes and has been hiding in one of them.

Yahya Sinwar is suspected to have engineered Hamas's&nbsp;October 7 attack on Israel, which killed at least 1200 Israelis, including civilians. He replaced Ismail Haniyeh to become the leader of Hamas in Gaza in 2017.&nbsp;Haniyeh resides in Qatar and serves as the chair of the terror group’s political bureau.

Born in the Khan Younis refugee camp, the 61-year-old was elected Hamas&nbsp;leader in Gaza in 2017.
