Earlier on Friday, speaking to ANI, Uniyal said the government had acted promptly after the incident came to light. He further added that the investigation had also stood the test of judicial scrutiny. "The government has already presented its full side in this matter. When some people opposed this and went to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court's order and rejected their appeal," Uniyal stated. The remarks come days after a fresh controversy erupted following a clip shared by Urmila Sanawar, actress and wife of former BJP MLA from Jwalapur (Haridwar), Suresh Rathore, in connection with the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Minister Subodh Uniyal stated that earlier petitions seeking a CBI probe into the Ankita Bhandari murder case had already been dismissed by the Nainital High Court and the Supreme Court. Making serious allegations, he said that by demanding a CBI investigation, the Congress is attempting to help the three accused who are currently serving sentences in this murder case. The Free Balochistan Movement (FBM) has intensified its international advocacy against alleged human rights abuses in Balochistan, staging a protest in the British city of Manchester to condemn what it describes as the enforced disappearance of Baloch women by Pakistani security forces. The demonstration drew attention to what activists say is a sharp escalation in state repression over the past month, marked by the abduction of Baloch women from their homes in different parts of Balochistan. Protesters carried banners and placards accusing Pakistani authorities of using enforced disappearances as a tool to silence political dissent and intimidate Baloch families demanding basic rights and justice. According to the organisers, the Manchester protest was part of a broader international campaign to raise awareness about the situation in Balochistan and to pressure global human rights institutions to take notice. Activists emphasised that women are increasingly being targeted, a development they described as a dangerous escalation in the conflict. Earlier, on December 11, the Netherlands chapter of the Free Balochistan Movement held a similar demonstration in front of the International Court of Justice in The Hague to mark International Human Rights Day. During that protest, participants highlighted what they termed decades of systematic human rights violations by both Pakistan and Iran in Baloch-populated regions. Free Balochistan Movement advocates for an independent Balochistan, said its struggle is rooted in resistance against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and political repression. The region of Balochistan remains afflicted by a concerning trend of enforced disappearances, where some victims are eventually released, while others face extended detention or fall victim to targeted killings. CQB Carbine This achievement marks the culmination of an extraordinary, persistent effort to equip Indian soldiers with world-class lethality, replacing legacy systems with cutting-edge indigenous technology under the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision, a statement from the MoD said. As a cornerstone of the modern infantry arsenal, the CQB Carbine provides a critical edge in close combat through its compact design and high rate of fire, ensuring rapid, decisive lethality in confined spaces. The contract highlights the synergy between the Government and the private sector, which will further give impetus to the Make-in-India initiative. This project will also play a pivotal role in boosting the overall economy, increasing employment avenues and empowering indigenous defence industries by encouraging Indian MSMEs through component manufacturing and raw material supply. Heavyweight Torpedoes According to the MoD, the contract for the procurement and integration of 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes along with associated equipment for Kalvari Class Submarines (P-75) of the Indian Navy at an approximate cost of Rs 1,896 crore was signed with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy. The acquisition will enhance the combat capability of the six Kalvari-class submarines. The delivery of torpedoes will commence in April 2028 and will be completed by early 2030. These torpedoes have significant operational capabilities and advanced technological features. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation on Monday (Dec 29), successfully conducted a maiden flight test of Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR 120) at the Integrated Test Range in Odisha's Chandipur. Interestingly, the maiden trial of the 120 km-range rockets was conducted on the same day the project was cleared for the Indian Army by the Defence Acquisition Council meeting held in the afternoon today. The rocket was tested for its maximum range of 120 kms, demonstrating all in-flight manoeuvres as planned. The LRGR impacted the target with textbook precision. All the deployed range instruments tracked the flight throughout its trajectory. This rocket is designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in association with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, with support from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and the Research Centre Imarat. The flight trial was coordinated by ITR and Proof & Experimental Establishment. The LRGR was launched from the in-service Pinaka launcher, demonstrating its versatility and providing launch capability of Pinaka variants of different ranges from the same launcher. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO on the achievement. He stated that the successful design and development of long-range guided rockets will boost the capabilities of the Armed Forces, terming it a game-changer. Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat, witnessed the trial and congratulated all the teams for accomplishing the mission objectives. The Pinaka Multiple Launcher Rocket System (MLRS) is a long-range artillery weapon developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Known for its rapid response and precision, the Pinaka system enhances the Indian Army's capability in modern warfare. One of the biggest success stories among Indigenous weapon systems, the Army is fully backing the missiles, as Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi has already made clear that, as soon as longer-range versions of the Pinaka are ready, the force might drop plans for other alternate weapons. The Pinaka has been a major success story in the export sector as it has been bought by Armenia, while many European countries, including France, are showing interest in it.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) appeal on December 29, challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to suspend the life sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case.

The victim in the 2017 Unnao rape case on Sunday (Dec 28) said that she has faith that she will get justice from the Supreme Court and appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure her safety so she can fight her legal battle without fear.
