The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced that the flagship BWF World Tour Finals will mark its return&nbsp;to Guangzhou and the mega event will be held from&nbsp;December 14 to 18, 2022.

In an official release, the BWF said, "The famed red courts of Tianhe Stadium will welcome the top eight players and pairs in each category at the season-ending finale as they compete for their share of the biggest prize pool ever seen in badminton — US$1.5 million."

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said he feels that it is the right step, marking&nbsp;elite-level badminton's return to the country&nbsp;after a three-year hiatus. "The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals is one of our most lucrative tournaments of the year and we're excited to partner with the Chinese Badminton Association, Guangzhou City Government, and our principal partner HSBC, to bring the Finals back to Guangzhou," Thomas stated in BWF's&nbsp;official statement.

The forthcoming&nbsp;tournaments in October and November will now serve as the final opportunity for players to&nbsp;qualify for the BWF Final in Guangzhou, with the VICTOR China Open 2022 (Super 1000) and Fuzhou China Open 2022 (Super 750) being cancelled.

Guangzhou has staged two spectacular editions of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in 2018 and 2019 and we look forward to putting on another grand show for our loyal fans in China," Lund asserted.

"Unfortunately, it was not possible to move forward with plans to stage the two tournaments in Changzhou and Fuzhou. It's been a vital year for badminton and we're extremely proud we have been able to deliver a majority of our HSBC BWF World Tour stops. Team India dealt with a huge blow on Thursday (September 29) as Jasprit Bumrah is now out of action due to a back stress fracture and will miss the remainder of the home T20Is versus South Africa, As per a report in the PTI, the 28-year-old speedster is also set to miss the forthcoming T20 World Cup, in Australia, as his injury will take time to heal and the premier pacer might be away from the game for 4-6 months.

While BCCI is yet to share an official statement regarding Bumrah's chances of featuring in the T20 WC, in Australia from October-November, his back issues have re-emerged at a very poor time; less than a month before the mega event Down Under. What is a back stress fracture?

"Any pacer is prone to stress fractures in the low back and this typically happens on the side opposite to the bowling arm. In a normal fracture, a bone breaks because of an injury. However, a stress fracture happens because of repetitive micro-injury as small injuries build up over weeks or months," the doctor explained.

The BCCI tweeted, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Mohd. Siraj as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa. Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team."

Indian team management and the cricket loyalists across the nation will be desperate to see Bumrah in India's squad for the T20 WC in Australia. At present, the chances are slim and the picture remains unclear.

"Any pacer is prone to stress fractures in the low back and this typically happens on the side opposite to the bowling arm. In a normal fracture, a bone breaks because of an injury. However, a stress fracture happens because of repetitive micro-injury as small injuries build up over weeks or months," the doctor explained.
