<p>"Chacha-Taau (uncles), I am not saying that you should not come to Delhi. You can come to Delhi, and do whatever you want," Singh can be heard saying in the video.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Believe me, if daughters of your village are into wrestling, then ask them when no one is around if the allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh depict what Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is. After that, you can do whatever you want," he added.</p>

<p>"It should not happen that when the probe report is out after one month, two months or three months, you have to repent."</p>

<h2><strong>Why the protests?</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, it was in April that prominent wrestlers such<strong>&nbsp;</strong>as Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogar and Sakshi Malik amongst others returned to the protest site claiming that no progress had been made after their earlier protest.</p>

<p>They claimed that six women wrestlers and a minor had filed a sexual harassment complaint against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Connaught Place Police Station but the Delhi police did not register any FIR.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was only after the Supreme Court intervened that two FIRs were filed by the Delhi police. The wrestlers have made it clear that they won't suspend the protest until they get justice and Brij Bhushan is removed as the WFI chief and put behind bars.</p>

<p>Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange paused Bitcoin withdrawals on the platform for a second time in under 12 hours on Monday. The company cited congestion on the blockchain due to the high volume of pending transactions&nbsp;as the reason for hitting the pause button.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Our team is currently working on a fix and will reopen (Bitcoin) withdrawals as soon as possible," the company tweeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There is a large volume of withdrawal transactions from Binance still pending as our set fees did not anticipate the recent surge in (bitcoin) network gas fees," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the two halts, the cryptocurrency exchange managed to steady the operation and resumed withdrawals, albeit with a slight tweak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“To prevent a similar recurrence in the future, our fees have been adjusted.&nbsp;We will continue to monitor on-chain activity and adjust accordingly if needed," it said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, this is not the first instance when Binance has faced such a situation. In March 2023, after Bitcoin plunged about one per cent to&nbsp;$28,191, its lowest in nearly a week, Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals citing tech issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Moreover,&nbsp;in December last year, Binance recorded $1.9 billion in withdrawals during a 24-hour period between December 12 and December 13.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the time,&nbsp;Chief Executive Officer Changpeng Zhao warned the employees to expect tough months ahead. After FTX went bankrupt last year and Binance pitched in to resuscitate its rival, both the users as well as the regulators are closely monitoring the operational methods of cryptocurrency exchanges.</p>

<p>Wary of the scrutiny, Changpeng had called for regulations in the industry to ensure better security for the investors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We're in a new industry, we've seen in the past week, things go crazy in the industry. We do need some regulations, we do need to do this properly, we do need to do this in a stable way," Zhao said at the time, addressing the G20 leaders' summit in Bali.&nbsp;</p>

Binance halts Bitcoin withdrawal twice in under 12 hours before resuming service

<p>Eight people were mauled to death in&nbsp;Brownsville, Texas on Sunday after a vehicle ploughed&nbsp;into a group at a bus stop near a homeless shelter. Seven people were found dead at the scene while 10 were taken to the hospital where an eighth person succumbed to fatal injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police informed that they received a call around 8:30 am about a car, reportedly a Land Rover that rammed into multiple people who were waiting at a bus stop across the street from&nbsp;the Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center, the NGO running the homeless shelter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Preliminary reports have not confirmed if the crash was intentional. According to&nbsp;Victor Maldonado, the shelter director, the SUV ran up the curb and flipped instantly, It continued moving for several hundred feet and managed to hit people walking on the sidewalk, about 30 feet away from the main group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This SUV, a Range Rover, just ran the light that was about 100 feet (30 meters) away and just went through the people who were sitting there in the bus stop,” Maldonado was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Brownsville police investigator Martin Sandoval said there were no passengers in the car, refraining from divulging the driver's name or age at the moment. However, he gave three possible explanations for the collision.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It could be intoxication; it could be an accident; or it could be intentional. In order for us to find out exactly what happened, we have to eliminate the other two."</p>

<p>“He’s being very uncooperative at the hospital, but he will be transported to our city jail as soon as he gets released,” said Sandoval, referring to the driver.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Then we’ll fingerprint him and (take a) mug shot, and then we can find his true identity.”</p>

<p>Reports state&nbsp;that most of the victims were Venezuelan men. For long, Brownsville&nbsp;has been the epicentre of migration across the US-Mexico border but in the last two weeks, the city has witnessed a surge in Venezuelan migrants. Of&nbsp;the 6,000 migrants in custody of&nbsp;Border Patrol in&nbsp;Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, 4,000 were Venezuelan.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>War of words between Congress, BJP</strong></h2>

<p>This is not the first instance when BJP and Congress leaders have traded blows over contentious statements in the lead-up to the assembly polls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last month, leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge likened Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a 'venomous snake'. However, after clamouring from the BJP, Kharge apologised and tweeted, “My statement was neither for PM Modi personally nor for any other person, but for the ideology he represents."</p>

<p>"The weaponisation. It's a very interesting statement because it unconsciously reveals a mindset. What does weaponising something mean? It means that the activity is legitimate and somebody is weaponising it. So you say you are weaponising trade, you are weaponising technology. Somebody says you are weaponising terrorism, which means they think terrorism is legitimate, and that we should not weaponise it. That is normal."</p>

<p>"He [Zardari] came here as the Foreign Minister of an SCO Member State. That is part of multilateral diplomacy. Don't see it as anything more than that. I think that nothing from what he said or what I heard he said deserves for this to be treated more than that," added Jaishankar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a bizarre incident, a passenger aboard a United Airlines flight had to be held back after attempting to jump out of the plane&nbsp;following an altercation where he allegedly punched a flight attendant.</p>

<p>The incident transpired on a flight bound for Houston, Texas from San Francisco earlier this week, just when the plane was about to take off, according to US media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Naya Jimenez, one of the passengers on the flight, captured the entire incident on her camera which is now going viral on social media platforms. She claimed that the man became embittered and violent after she asked him and his wife to move out of her assigned seat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“They had to bring in a gate attendant to try to talk to them.&nbsp;Then, he began slurring his speech a little bit,” Jimenez was quoted as saying by ABC7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Afterwards, the out-of-control passenger proceeded to physically assault the flight attendant who was punched several times, as seen in the footage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The situation took a turn for the worse when&nbsp;the disruptive traveller, headed towards the&nbsp;emergency exit and tried to jump out of the plane before takeoff.</p>

<p>"After he paused for a minute, he ran towards where the pilot was, where the emergency exit doors are, and attempted to open them. He successfully opened the emergency exit and was about to jump down," said Jimenez.</p>

<p>“The plane is elevated and he would have jumped apparently two stories to the ground."</p>

<p>Fortunately enough, the flight crew rushed in and managed to pull back the irate passenger to safety. The 47-year-old unruly man was arrested by San Franciso police on charges related to battery and assault.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“On Sunday night, our team at San Francisco International Airport immediately contacted law enforcement officials after a customer became disruptive during boarding,” an airline spokesperson stated.</p>

<p>“We’re grateful to our team in San Francisco for their professionalism in this situation and for looking out for the safety of our customers and their fellow United employees.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>A nine-member Reparation Task Force in the US state of California on Saturday voted to approve recommendations that could mean hundreds of billions of dollars in payments to Black residents for injustices of the past.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The committee, formed nearly two years ago, met in Oakland and gave final approval to the list of proposals which will now head to the state lawmakers to be considered for a legislation.</p>

<p>Among the list of approvals granted by the task force&nbsp;is a public apology, acknowledging the&nbsp;state’s responsibility for past wrongs and promising that it will not repeat them.</p>

<p>Democrat leader&nbsp;Barbara Lee, who is co-sponsoring a bill to study&nbsp;reparation proposals for African Americans called upon states and the Biden administration to pass legislation regarding the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Reparations are not only morally justifiable, but they have the potential to address longstanding racial disparities and inequalities,” said Lee.</p>

<p>The proposal is being called the country's most sweeping effort to devise a reparations programme.&nbsp;One of the recommendations of the panel is to create a new agency that provides services to the descendant kin of enslaved people to figure out the reparation amount they are owed.</p>

<p>According to some economists, the proposal,&nbsp;if implemented, could cost the exchequer as much as $800&nbsp;billion (2.5 times the annual budget of California) for decades of over-policing, disproportionate incarceration and housing discrimination.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A New York Times report stated that eligible&nbsp;Black Californians should receive up to $148,099 with the estimate based on the figure of $3,366 for each year they lived in California from the early 1930s to the late 1970s when discriminatory practices were at their peak.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Alberta on Saturday declared a provincial state of emergency after tens of thousands of Albertans have been forced to evacuate their homes as "unprecedented" wildfires rage on in Alberta, Premier Danielle Smith, head of the ruling United Conservative Party (UCP) said at a press conference.</p>

<p>By Saturday at 5 pm Mountain Time (7 pm ET), more than 24,000 Albertans had been evacuated from their homes, with 110 active wildfires across the province, and 36 out of control.</p>

<p>"It has been an extremely challenging day for firefighters here," said Christie Tucker, an information unit manager for Alberta Wildfire. "We were battling very strong winds, hot weather and those winds produced extreme wildfire activity."</p>

<p>She added that additional firefighters had arrived today from Quebec and Ontario.</p>

<p>"Much of Alberta has been experiencing a hot, dry spring and with so much kindling, all it takes is a few sparks to ignite some truly frightening wildfires," said Smith at a press conference earlier in the day. "These conditions have resulted in the unprecedented situation our province is facing today."</p>

<p>"I don't know that I ever recall seeing multiple communities evacuated all at once in fire season," said Smith.</p>

<p>She said $1.12 billion (C$1.5 billion) is put aside as a contingency because they know a significant amount could need to be spent on emergency management,</p>

<p>Whitecap Resources, an oil producer operating in northwestern and central Alberta, said it has been busy ensuring staff are safe through the evacuation process and assets are unaffected.</p>

<p>"(We are) monitoring closely and praying for rain," Grant Fagerheim, Whitecap CEO, said on Saturday.</p>

<p>Pembina Pipeline Corp, which runs oil-gathering pipelines in the region, on Friday, said it had activated emergency response and incident management processes and is "evaluating any current or anticipated operational impacts".</p>

<p>So far this year, there have been 43,000 hectares burned from wildfires, Smith said.</p>

<p>"It is very unusual for us to see this much fire activity this early in the season," said Tucker earlier on Saturday.</p>

Canadian province of Alberta declares wildfire emergency

<p>In another instance of mass shooting, a 17-year-old girl was killed while five were injured at a large party near a college campus in Chico, Northern California on Saturday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police stated they received the distress call in the wee hours of Saturday and the officers were dispatched to the spot at 3:26 am. The party was reportedly taking place on the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue just off the campus of California State University Chico.</p>

<p>According to Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge, officers were first dispatched to a different party around 12:27 am after receiving reports that several rounds from a firearm were discharged.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A fight had occurred at the party and a suspect had been asked to leave before the officers arrived. Two individuals in the party were hospitalised after being assaulted by the suspect, added Aldridge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A few hours later, officers were called to a different party, the one near Columbus Avenue and found a person matching the description of the suspect from the earlier incident and arrested him for possession of a gun and reckless discharge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>All the victims ranged in age from 17 to 21 years old and were taken to local hospitals. The five people wounded have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will likely return to normalcy in some time. The party was reportedly taking place on the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue just off the campus of California State University Chico. According to Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge, officers were first dispatched to a different party around 12:27 am after receiving reports that several rounds from a firearm were discharged. A fight had occurred at the party and a suspect had been asked to leave before the officers arrived. Two individuals in the party were hospitalised after being assaulted by the suspect, added Aldridge. A few hours later, officers were called to a different party, the one near Columbus Avenue and found a person matching the description of the suspect from the earlier incident and arrested him for possession of a gun and reckless discharge.
