US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Friday (Dec 13) said that “for many months, (Palestinian militant group) Hamas has not been prepared to even do the basic things of coming to the table with the names of hostages,” amid the talks of a ceasefire deal to end the war in Gaza.

The US state of Texas sued a female doctor from New York named Dr Margaret Daley Carpenter for allegedly mailing abortion pills to a woman in Dallas despite the ban on the procedure in the state.&nbsp;

The lawsuit, filed on Thursday (Dec 12), alleged that Dr Carpenter sent abortion pills to a 20-year-old woman via telemedicine. It further said that in July, the woman sought medical attention after severe bleeding, which led to the “biological father of the unborn child” suspecting that she tried to end her pregnancy. He later found abortion pills.&nbsp;

The lawsuit was filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and will make laws of two states (New York and Texas) against each other.&nbsp;

Since Dr Carpenter is based in New York, Paxton's lawsuit comes under New York's "shield laws", which defend doctors providing abortion medication to people across state lines.&nbsp;

The lawsuit further claimed that since Dr Carpenter does not hold Texas medical licensing, her prescriptions of the pills were unauthorised.&nbsp;

The woman conceived in mid-May, as per the suit, and did not have any life-threatening conditions from the pregnancy. The case detailed that the woman experienced severe bleeding on July 16 and was hospitalised. Her boyfriend was unaware of her plans to abort their baby.&nbsp;

The case will mark the first time "shield laws" are tested in court.&nbsp;

Mary Ziegler, a University of California, Davis, school of law professor who studies the legal history of reproduction, told The Guardian, “This was inevitable".&nbsp;

A total of 204 votes were cast in favour of the motion whereas 85 lawmakers voted against it. According to estimates by Seoul police, over 200,000 demonstrators had assembled in front of the parliament to press the lawmakers to remove President&nbsp;Yoon Suk Yeol from power, who had&nbsp;plunged the East Asian democracy and key US&nbsp;ally into chaos by declaring the emergency martial law last week.

Lawmakers in the South Korean National Assembly have voted&nbsp;to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his martial law fiasco. A total of 204 votes were cast in favour of impeaching the embattled president, who earlier vowed to keep fighting 'to the end.'

Soon after the impeachment voting ended, opposition parties declared the result as the&nbsp;'victory of the people'.

After being suspended, Yeol immediately loses his constitutional powers but will continue to occupy the office. He has to rely on a court to decide his fate. Meanwhile, PM Han Duck-soo would be taking charge of the government.&nbsp;

The PM on Saturday vowed to "ensure stable governance". "I will devote all my strength and efforts to ensure stable governance," Han&nbsp;told&nbsp;reporters.

Under South Korean laws, the president can only declare martial law during “wartime, war-like situations or other comparable national emergency states.”

Earlier, thousands took to the streets and assembled in front of the National Assembly to press the lawmakers to impeach the president. Seoul police said they expected more than 200,000 people to hold protests in support of removing him.
