<p>A US military F-35 fighter jet en route to Edwards Air Force Base in California crashed near Albuquerque International Airport in New Mexico on Tuesday (May 28) leaving the pilot with 'serious injuries'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The video footage doing rounds on social media shows a large plume of smoke rising in the sky in a deserted location with several vehicles on the nearby road.</p>

<p>Bernalillo County Fire Rescue spokesperson William Harris reportedly said that the pilot ejected before the crash and was found conscious and breathing.&nbsp;Albuquerque Fire Rescue Lt. Jason Fejer said the pilot was "transported with serious injuries" in the incident that left the plane charred in the blaze as it crashed.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lockheed Martin, the aircraft's manufacturer, confirmed that the jet had departed from Fort Worth, Texas, earlier on Tuesday (May 28).</p>

<p>Witness Patrick White, who was driving nearby, described the scene to the AP. He saw the jet flying low. Initially, it stirred up dust, however it later got out of sight. Later, he noticed “an enormous plume of black smoke."&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Two civilians evacuated</strong></h2>

<p>Reports indicated that Bernalillo County firefighters quickly extinguished the fire at the crash site. Two civilians were evaluated on-site&nbsp;and neither required hospital treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The explosion took place near Central Square on Tuesday afternoon (May 28) as people were appealed by the police to avoid the area.</p>

<p>According to Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finley, the blast was a natural gas explosion and added that the crews were determined to find if there was a gas leak.</p>

<p>After searching the building, a man and woman remained missing, said Finley. The fire chief said that the man was an employee of the bank.</p>

<p>After the blast, the floor collapsed in the basement which was flooded and search crews tried to send a mini-drone into the basement to help in the search effort, Finley said.</p>

<p>“The floor collapsed in on itself, there’s nothing to see, it’s full of water, so honestly, we don’t know if that person is down there or not. When we get clearance to go into the building… until then, I will not put any of my firefighters down there to do a search for any reason right now,” he added.</p>

<p>The severe turbulence flung passengers and crew around the cabin, some were even slammed into the ceiling.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The rapid changes in G over the 4.6 seconds duration resulted in an altitude drop of 178 ft (54 m), from 37,362 ft to 37,184 ft. This sequence of events likely caused the injuries to the crew and passengers,” said the Singapore transport ministry.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Singapore Airlines acknowledged the latest report and said it is fully cooperating with the investigation team which comprised Singaporean investigators, and American representatives from Boeing, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).&nbsp;</p>
