Three days later, A’bao’s condition rapidly deteriorated. He was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with a lung infection and respiratory failure. He couldn't recover and died on June 1.

After conducting initial investigations, social security officials said that since the time between his falling sick and death was more than 48 hours, it does not fall into the category of a work-related injury.

His family sued the company, asking for compensation, and alleging employer negligence.&nbsp;

The company fought back, saying that A’bao’s workload was manageable and the overtime was voluntary. Meanwhile, the court said that working for 104 consecutive days was a clear violation of Chinese Labour Law. As per the law, no employee should work for more than 8 hours per day and an average of 44 hours per week.

It added that the breach of labour regulations played a major role in his immune system becoming weak and eventual death. The family has been awarded a total of 400,000 yuan (US$56,000) in compensation, including 10,000 yuan for emotional distress.

The AI Convention, which has been in the works for years and was adopted in May after discussions between 57 countries, addresses the risks AI may pose while promoting responsible innovation.

"This Convention is a major step to ensuring that these new technologies can be harnessed without eroding our oldest values, like human rights and the rule of law," Britain's justice minister, Shabana Mahmood, said in a statement.

The AI Convention mainly focuses on the protection of the human rights of people affected by AI systems and is separate from the EU AI Act, which entered into force last month.

Council of Europe Secretary General&nbsp;Marija Pejčinović Burić said: “We must ensure that the rise of AI upholds our standards, rather than undermining them. The Framework Convention is designed to ensure just that. It is a strong and balanced text - the result of the open and inclusive approach by which it was drafted and which ensured that it benefits from multiple and expert perspectives. The Framework Convention is an open treaty with a potentially global reach. I hope that these will be the first of many signatures and that they will be followed quickly by ratifications, so that the treaty can enter into force as soon as possible.”

A fire broke out in a school dormitory in Kenya, killing 17 boys&nbsp;and leaving 13 others with serious burns, according to police reports on Friday (Sep 6). Authorities fear the death toll could increase, as more than a dozen injured students have been rushed to the hospital with severe burns.

The country's&nbsp;Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said at least 70 students were missing after the unfortunate tragedy.

"We still have 70 kids that are unaccounted -- that does not mean they are perished or they are injured. The word is that they are unaccounted for," Gachagua was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

The 17 boys killed were said to be sleeping when the fire&nbsp;tore through the dormitory in&nbsp;the early hours of Friday, said the police.&nbsp;

Isaac Mwaura, a government spokesperson, said that the boys&nbsp;were in grades 4 to 8 and around&nbsp;nine&nbsp;to 13 years old.&nbsp;

The incident occurred at Hillside Endarasha Primary School in Nyeri County, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Kenyan President William Ruto called the fire "horrific" and "devastating." He has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, and in a social media post said, "Those responsible will be held to account".

Weeks after the Telegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested&nbsp;in France, the messaging app is finally taking content moderation seriously. On Friday (Sep 6), the app removed some of the features that were&nbsp;allegedly being used by abusers. Durov also admitted that “0.001 per cent of the users” were responsible for creating a bad image of the entire platform. "That’s why this year we are committed to turn moderation on Telegram from an area of criticism into one of praise," he wrote.

Durov was placed under formal investigation in France for the alleged fraud&nbsp;and crimes on Telegram. Earlier, he was questioned by the authorities for four days before being released on bail. His arrest had raised concerns about the future of free speech online and whether the bosses of the messaging apps can be held responsible for the actions of the users.

Telegram also removed a feature called People Nearby which "had issues with bots and scammers" and would instead showcase legitimate, verified businesses in the vicinity of users.

However, in&nbsp;his message to almost one billion users of the app, the Telegram founder didn’t lay out how he would achieve the goal.

Telegram’s actions were lauded by public policy experts.

Katie Harbath, a former public policy director at Meta who now advises companies on technology issues, reacted to Telegram’s announcement by saying, "It's good that Durov is starting to take content moderation seriously but, just like Elon and other tech CEOs who run speech platforms have found, if he thinks this will be as simple as making a few small changes, he's in for a rude awakening."

The 54-year-old would also face up to 30 years in prison for each count of second-degree felony murder.&nbsp;

If convicted, he&nbsp;can&nbsp;get up to 10 years in prison for each count of involuntary manslaughter. He could also get&nbsp;10 years&nbsp;in prison for each count of cruelty to children.&nbsp;
