US Congress leaders condemned the incident by calling it an act of "bigotry and hate" which was happening due to incendiary "rhetoric by national leaders".

"There is too much hate! I am appalled by the hideous acts of vandalism targeting the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Melville," said&nbsp;US Congressman Tom Suozzi.

"Such acts of vandalism, bigotry, and hate are happening far too often because of inflammatory rhetoric by national leaders, extremism, and lack of accountability. Acts like these are un-American and contradict the core values of our nation."

Congressman Ro Khanna also reacted to the vandalism and sought accountability to avert similar incidents in future.&nbsp;

Her parents first started questioning her husband about Kristina's absence after their grandchildren’s local nursery contacted them saying their mother hadn't picked up the kids. Her husband was ignoring the matter and didn't give them a proper response.&nbsp;

Her father then travelled to their family home, but Thomas, as the husband has been identified by the local media, told them he didn't know where she was. He said that she would “just leave sometimes”.

After Kristina's father made the gruesome discovery, he ran from the garage “screaming”. He came across a passer-by and asked him to contact the police. The next day, Thomas was arrested.&nbsp;

According to local media reports, an autopsy revealed that she was strangled to death, chopped up into pieces using a jigsaw, knife, and garden shears, and then "pureed" in an industrial-strength blender.&nbsp;

Thomas claims that he killed his wife in an act of self-defence as she attacked him with a knife. However, as per Swiss outlet FM1 Today, a medical-forensic report "contradicts his description of self-defence". The court also doubted the claim, saying that the "planned and systematic approach over several hours" and his use of "special tools and chemicals" to destroy evidence of the crime prove otherwise.&nbsp;

The "deliberate mutilation or ritualised degradation of the body" shows that Thomas is mentally unwell, the court said.&nbsp;

Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, in a bid to control the population of monkeys displaying aggressive behaviour, has announced that a census of the primates will be carried out in public areas. Such animals will be sent to legal breeding farms, natural habitats, or the Phnom Tamao Zoo.

An official told the Phnom Penh Post that the operation to capture the monkeys is expected to start after the Pchum Ben festival in October.

AfP says the monkeys have turned aggressive because of being treated like a tourist attraction, which has created an unnatural dependency on humans for food.&nbsp;

"Sending them to breeding farms is exceptionally cruel. The monkeys at Angkor Wat are paying the price for inappropriate and preventable human behaviour," Sarah Kite, a founder of AfP, said.

Kosal says that such activities are creating problems and should be discouraged. He has called on people to stop exploiting the monkeys.

“We need to find solid reasons which we can use against them not to make content by abusing the monkeys," Kosal told the Associated Press.

Animal videos are quite a hit on the internet, and more views mean more money. Nick Marx, director of wildlife rescue and care for the Wildlife Alliance, told The Independent that that is part of the problem.&nbsp;

"If people stop watching them, that would really help solve the problem of abuse," he said.

The woman told the outlet that every time she answered the call, the person on the other end would stay quiet. She told her husband about the calls but he brushed aside her concerns and didn't help in any way.&nbsp;

Slowly she started to notice a pattern - the calls would stop when her husband was sleeping, playing video games or was with her. This made her suspicious. So she decided to do a little digging herself.&nbsp;

She went out shopping with her husband one day and kept a watch on him the entire time. The woman noticed that her husband didn't touch the phone the entire day and at the same time, the blank calls stopped.

After making her own observations, she went to the police and explained the matter. They checked her husband's phone records and found that he was indeed the one making the nuisance calls. He used to make the calls in private mode in a bid to harass his wife.&nbsp;

The reason for this strange act was later revealed to be jealousy. Local media reports suggest that the man was unhappy with his wife talking to other men, and so decided to punish her with the blank calls.&nbsp;

In one such incident, he found her on the phone with a man but didn't know what they were talking about. This is what prompted him to pursue the strange calls.&nbsp;

Japanese law makes nuisance calls illegal citing the significant psychological distress they can cause. Those violating the law may face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 1 million yen (US$7,000), along with a prohibition order.
