The government's solicitor general, Jorge Messias, said the resources provided in the agreement will allow local authorities to repair the financial losses of families hit by the tragedy and pay for environmental recovery actions in affected areas in the states of Minas Gerais, where the dam is located, and Espirito Santo through which the Doce River flows to the sea.

The annual payments will be scheduled until 2043, with values varying between 7 billion reais in 2026 and 4.41 billion reais in the last instalment.

"These resources will allow us to provide justice in reparation to the families directly affected and their impact will be felt over several areas, not only in the recovery of the environment, but in the resumption of economic activities, health and infrastructure," Messias said.

BHP in a statement said it expected outflows under the agreement to align with its full-year 2024 Samarco provision of $6.5 billion and no update was required to the existing provision at this time.

G7 leaders have finalised details surrounding a $50 billion loan to aid Kyiv, backed by profits from Russian sovereign assets frozen after its invasion of Ukraine, according to a statement released Friday.

Leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy democracies said they "have reached a consensus on how to deliver" the loans of approximately $50 billion, with an aim to start disbursing funds by the end of this year.

"The loan proceeds will be disbursed through multiple channels to support Ukraine's budgetary, military and reconstruction assistance," G7 leaders added.

Their announcement came as world financial leaders gathered in Washington this week for meetings hosted by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Finance ministers have "agreed on a technical solution ensuring consistency, coordination, fair distribution of lending, and solidarity among all G7 partners," the statement said.

"We will not tire in our resolve to give Ukraine the support it needs to prevail," the leaders added.

They called on Moscow to end its war and pay for damage caused to Ukraine.

<h2>$20 bn US support</h2>

This week, US President Joe&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;said that as part of the G7 package, the United States would provide $20 billion in loans to Ukraine, to be paid back by the interest earned from immobilized Russian sovereign assets.

This is aimed at supporting Ukraine now, "without burdening taxpayers."

"Our efforts make it clear: tyrants will be responsible for the damages they cause,"&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;said.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen signed a statement Wednesday with her Ukrainian counterpart Sergii Marchenko marking their intent to enter into the loan.

The Indian nationals were sent on a chartered flight back to India on October 22, the department said in a statement.&nbsp;

“On October 22, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), conducted a large-frame charter removal flight to the Republic of India of Indian nationals who did not establish a legal basis to remain in the United States,” the statement read.&nbsp;

United States&nbsp;officials on Friday (Oct 25) blamed ‘Russian actors’ for a viral video allegedly showing mail-in ballots for Republican presidential nominee&nbsp;Donald Trump being destroyed in&nbsp;Pennsylvania, a key battleground state.

The video shows a man deliberately destroying mail-in ballots for Trump from the state’s Bucks County.

However, the video was declared ‘fake’ on Thursday by the Bucks County board of elections. The board said the envelope and other materials seen in the video were not authentic and didn’t belong to them.
