Music instructor Ivan Mootooveeren, 41, who cast his ballot at a polling centre in the capital, Port Louis, told Reuters that he was voting for the opposition because the country needed a new direction.

Another voter, David Stafford, 36, said young people would make the difference in the election. He did not say who he was voting for but added that people were looking for economic innovation and job opportunities as much as fiscal changes.

Whichever party or coalition gets more than half the seats in parliament also wins the prime minister's post.

In a shocking incident, a Chinese woman died after undergoing six cosmetic surgeries in a span of 24 hours after which her family filed a lawsuit against the clinic and sought 1.2 million yuan (US$168,000) as compensation.&nbsp;

The woman, who belonged to a rural area in Guigang, Guangxi province in southern China, had gone to a clinic in Nanning on December 9, 2020.&nbsp;

The woman had taken a loan of more than 40,000 yuan (US$5,600) for financing six cosmetic procedures.

On the afternoon of December 9, the woman spent five hours on double eyelid surgery and a nose job.

After this, she went through a liposuction procedure on her things and got fat injected in her face and breasts which also continued for five hours the next morning.

However, when the woman was discharged, she suddenly collapsed in front of the lift in the clinic.&nbsp;

The woman was taken to The Second Nanning People’s Hospital where doctors failed to save her.

In the autopsy report, it was mentioned that the woman died from “acute respiratory failure due to pulmonary embolism after liposuction”.

<h2>Family sues the clinic over woman's death</h2>

When the woman died, she had an eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son. The woman's family members filed a case against the clinic at Jiangnan District People’s Court of Nanning City and sought compensation of 1.18 million yuan (US$251,000).

“The clinic offered me 200,000 yuan as compensation. I said that at least one million yuan should be given for a person’s death. Even if we split the responsibility, it should still be at least 500,000 yuan. I refused their private settlement, and I said we should just go to court," said Liu’s husband.

After the hearings, the court was finally asked to pay 590,000 yuan ($82,181) to the woman's family as compensation.

“The assessment concluded that the clinic failed to assess the risk of venous blood embolism, identifying certain errors in their medical practices that were causally related to the patient’s death,” said Li Shan, who is a judge at Jiangnan District People’s Court of Nanning City.

According to the United States, North Korea has sent approximately 10,000 troops to Russia to train and likely fight against Ukraine. Last month, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh in a statement said the troops are likely being stationed in eastern Russia, potentially reinforcing Russian forces.

“We believe that the DPRK has sent around 10,000 soldiers in total to train in eastern Russia that will probably augment Russian forces near Ukraine over the next several weeks,” Singh told reporters, using the abbreviation for North Korea's official name.

The city's largest hospital, Maputo Central Hospital, registered three deaths from Thursday's violence, spokesperson Dino Lopes told reporters.&nbsp;

It also treated 66 people for injuries, Lopes said Friday, adding that four of them were in a serious condition. The police did not immediately confirm this toll.

Burnt vehicles littered the streets on Friday and stone barricades were still in place in some areas, but markets and stores had reopened.

<h2>Rising toll</h2>

Human Rights Watch did not have a toll for Thursday's protests but said it had counted at least 30 dead between October 19 and November 6 across the country.

This includes two opposition figures shot dead on October 19.

Mozambique's Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) said at least 34 were killed, according to its tally.

"What began as a call for electoral justice has transformed into a brutal display of state repression, with the number of confirmed deaths now at 34," it said in a post on X.

A police officer has also been killed, Defence Minister Cristovao Chume told reporters Tuesday, warning that the army could intervene "to protect the interests of the state".

It appeared the protesters intended to "change the democratically established power", he said.

President Filipe Nyusi is expected to step down at the end of a two-term limit in January and hand over to the party's Daniel Chapo.&nbsp;

The Constitutional Council, which has to confirm the election results around two weeks before then, has asked for clarification about a possible discrepancy in voter numbers.&nbsp;

Election observers, including from the European Union, have noted irregularities in the poll.

<h2>'Protests to continue'</h2>

Mondlane, a 50-year-old former radio presenter, is in hiding and told AFP in an interview Wednesday that he could not reveal his whereabouts other than to say he was not in Africa.

"I feel that there is a revolutionary atmosphere... that shows that we are on the verge of a unique historical and political transition in the country," he said.

His Podemos party, which has demanded a recount, said Friday it would not let up the pressure.

Its calls for demonstrations are to demand "electoral truth", Podemos president Albino Forquilha told reporters.

"We will continue on the streets until we have an answer. We are putting fair pressure and we do not want violence," he said.

Forquilha said Podemos data showed "inconsistencies in the number of voters and the number of registered voters".

The unrest in&nbsp;Mozambique&nbsp;has been linked to disturbances at one of its busiest border posts with South Africa, Lebombo, where there were reports of vehicles being torched.

"There are fake, untrue, and probably illegal rumours and/or statements made by, perhaps, market manipulators or short sellers, that I am interested in selling shares of Truth," the former president wrote.&nbsp;

This optimism fueled a roughly 200 per cent surge in Trump Media stock over the six weeks before the election. Earlier this year, in September, Trump said that he wouldn’t be selling his shares or leaving the platform he created.

With nearly 115 million shares, Trump holds about 53 per cent of Trump Media, which brought his stake’s worth to around $3.7 billion at Friday’s stock price, while the total market cap of the company was close to $7 billion.
