<p>The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has accused former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of spending a staggering Rs 500 crore ($59.9 million) on the lavish Rushikonda Palace.</p>

<p>Speaking to news agency ANI, TDP spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram said people were in a state of disbelief after seeing the extravagant interiors of the palace.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"People couldn't believe that Jagan Reddy had spent Rs 500 crores on creating his own luxuries. Look at the bathtubs, which cost more than Rs 40 lakh ($47,941) commodes cost more than Rs 10-12 lakh ($11,985-$14,382)… The kind of luxurious furniture that are placed inside… The people are in shock after looking at these visuals," said Pattabhi.</p>

<p>He highlighted the stark contrast between the palace's opulence and the modest homes being built for BPL families under a government initiative led by Reddy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The houses for BPL families being built by the government, which was initiated by Jagan Reddy, are much smaller than the toilet in Rushikonda," he said.</p>

<p>Pattabhi questioned the former chief minister's justification for such lavish spending.</p>

<p>"So Jagan Reddy, you have to answer about this lavish spending. All this job of creating a luxurious interior was given to a woman named Supriya Reddy, who happens to be the wife of his close confidant, an IT advisor, Devreddy Srinath Reddy."</p>

<p>He criticised the Andhra government's financial management, noting that every week, the government has to go to the RBI to raise loans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In such kind of a scenario, how can you spend Rs 500 crore on your palace? You have not spent money on projects like Amravati… These are the projects that are required by the people. Instead of spending money on those projects, you have wasted money on your own palace," he alleged.</p>

<p>Pattabhi assured that an inquiry will be launched into the spending.&nbsp;</p>

Look at how much effort he had to occupy a hill in Visakha and build a palace with Rs 500 crores of public money!"</p>

<p>In response to the allegation, YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) spokesperson Ravi Chandra Reddy defended the construction, asserting that the building is meant for government purposes.</p>

<p>"We constructed that building (Rushikonda Palace) in the true spirit to rule from Vizag and that buildings should be used for only government purposes. Those buildings belong to the government of Andhra Pradesh and not Jagan Mohan Reddy or YSRCP."</p>

<p>"Those buildings are constructed with beautiful architecture for the government of Andhra Pradesh so it can be used when the President or Prime Minister comes as good buildings are not available in Vizag," he told ANI.</p>

<p>Rao had also met Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJP) chief Naveen Patnaik, seeking to drum up support for the federal front.</p>

Both houses of Parliament adjourned again, no-trust motion not taken up

<p>The Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted today for the 13th day after members from the AIADMK and TRS continued with their noisy protests, stalling the taking up of two notices of no-confidence motion against the council of ministers for the fourth day.</p>

<p>Amid the din, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said that she cannot do a headcount of 50 members supporting the move, a prerequisite for taking up the notices for the trust vote.</p>

<p>She then adjourned the House for the day.</p>

<p>Minutes after the House met this morning, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for an hour due to protests by parties from Andhra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. When the House reassembled at 12 noon, members from the AIADMK, TDP and the TRS were seen raising slogans and holding placards in the Well.</p>

<p>While the AIADMK wants early establishment of the Cauvery river board to settle the water dispute with neighbouring states, the TRS is demanding hiked quota for Telangana. The TDP is demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh.</p>

<p>Expelled RJD member Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was seen holding a placard demanding special status for Bihar. The members from Congress, TMC and the Left were standing at their seats.</p>

<p>After the laying of papers by ministers, when the protests continued, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar urged the members to return to their seats so that legislative business could be taken up.</p>

The central government had refused to give the state the special status it was asking for, but had said it would give Andhra the monetary equivalent of special status.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had recently asked the two TDP ministers in the union cabinet &mdash; Ashok Gajapathi Raju and YS Chowdary &mdash; to put in their papers. He had then later he would take his next steps accordingly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The YSR Congress and the TDP had asked for the trust vote &mdash; a minimum of 50 members have to accept the motion for the vote to be held &mdash; last week. The Left, the AIADMK, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the AIMIM will support the vote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Should the motion be accepted, this will be the first no-trust vote against the central government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>That said, the Narendra-led Modi NDA government is at the moment in no danger of falling. It has a simple majority on its own, and enough independent MPs in the house it could approach, should the need ever arise, to sail through a no-trust vote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The TDP however, commentators says, wishes to attack the government on the issue before assembly elections in Andhra next year &mdash; which is exactly what opposition parties in the state are doing to it. Taking on the central government also allows the TDP to ward off the YSR Congress&#39;s Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has been pushing for special status for Andhra for some four years now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>TDP and YSR Congress have been agitating in both Houses over the special status demand for Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A motion of no-confidence backed by nine MPs is much lesser than the 50 required for the motion to be admitted, even with the backing of 16 MPs of the TDP.</p>

<p>The no-confidence motion is likely to be defeated in the Lok Sabha.</p>

YSR Congress to move no-confidence motion against NDA

<p>Naidu was speaking in the Andhra state assembly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was the YSR Congress which gave notice today for the moving of a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government, in the backdrop of the Centre&#39;s refusal to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.</p>

<p>The party&#39;s MP Y V Subba Reddy gave the notice to the Lok Sabha secretariat for including the motion in tomorrow&#39;s list of business, his office said.</p>

<p>The motion can be accepted only if it has the support of at least 50 members in the House. The YSR Congress has nine MPs in the Lok Sabha.</p>

<p>If accepted, it will be the first no-confidence motion moved against the Modi-government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Naidu had ordered his ministers to quit the Union Cabinet, he had left the TDP-BJP alliance intact. At least for the moment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He had however also said that he would take his next steps, as and when needed.&nbsp;</p>

YSR Congress gives adjournment notice in Lok Sabha over Andhra Pradesh's special status

<p>The Telugu Desam Party, which pulled out of the Modi government this week, today said that though it was though it was &quot;severely hurt&quot; by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley&#39;s remarks on assistance to Andhra Pradesh, its alliance with the BJP was &quot;still on&quot;.</p>

<p>State Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu spoke to the press after a meeting that Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu held with him, senior minister K Kala Venkata Rao and others.</p>

<p>The state finance minister said that withdrawing from the central government was the first step and the party would have to see what the second step will be. He clarified that even though the alliance was intact, the TDP would still fight for securing the rights of Andhra Pradesh from the Centre.</p>
