Xi also reiterated China's calls for unification with the self-ruled island of Taiwan and called for consolidated stability in once-restive Hong Kong.

As per AFP, he also thanked thousands of delegates at Beijing's Great Hall of the People for giving him the historic third term. Xi vowed to "take the needs of the country as my mission, and the interests of the people as my yardstick".

Last week, Xi was for the third term anointed as the president of China. The latest five-year term adds to his power and makes him China's most powerful leader in generations. His third rise to the top position is a break from long-standing political precedent. From Between 1982 and March 2018, the presidentship of China was limited to two consecutive terms. However, the limit&nbsp;was removed at the 2018 National People's Congress.

With this, Xi, 69, has become China's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong, who founded the People's Republic, the news agency Reuters reported on Friday. He extends his tenure as president amid increasingly adversarial relations with the United States and western countries over Taiwan, China's backing of Russia, trade and human rights. Here's a look at Xi Jinping's political career so far: The beginnings Xi Jinping was born on June 15, 1953, to Xi Zhongxun and Qi Xin. His father, Xi Zhongxun, was a communist revolutionary and a political leader. According to the DW, Zhongxun was purged in 1962 and was then persecuted and jailed during the cultural revolution in China. Xi Jinping had applied to join the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) several times but was rejected due to his father's political history. He was finally accepted as a member of the CCP in 1974, serving as branch secretary and this marked the beginning of his career in politics, according to the DW. From 1975 to 1979, Xi studied chemical engineering at the Tsinghua University. After graduation, he worked as a secretary for Geng Biao, the then-vice premier and minister of national defence in the Chinese government. In October 2007, he was elected as one of the nine members of the standing committee of CCP's political bureau, the highest ruling body in the party. And a year later, Xi Jinping was elected as the vice president of China. The president of China On November 15, 2012, Xi Jinping was elected as the general secretary of the CCP and chairman of the Central Military Commission by the 18th Central Committee of the party, which informally made him China's leader. Economic challenges that Xi faces now With Xi securing a third presidential term, he now has to face many economic challenges. China, which is the world's second-largest economy, is facing a tough economic recovery from the three years of the government's zero-Covid policy, a fragile confidence among consumers and businesses and a weak international demand for Chinese exports, a report by the news agency Reuters said. The abrupt ending of the zero-Covid policy led to a spike in infections and deaths. Several regions of China saw their hospitals overburdened by infected patients, a shortage of antiviral medicines and crematoriums being full. In 2022, China's economy grew just three per cent, one of its worst performances in decades. During a parliament session, the government set a modest growth target for this year of just around five per cent. Willy Lam, a senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation, a think tank based in the United States, said that in the third term as China's president, Xi Jinping would need to focus on economic revival. Lukashenko also called for a cease-fire and negotiations to end the Ukraine war which entered second year.&nbsp;He said the meeting is held at a very difficult time which requires "new nonstandard approaches and responsible political decisions," reported Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA).&nbsp;

In a veiled reference to the US and other European nations, Xi said, “Relevant countries should stop politicizing and using the world economy as their tool, and take measures that truly advance a cease-fire and stop to war and resolve the crisis peacefully.”

“The core of China’s stance is to call for peace and encourage talks ... and for the legitimate security concerns of all countries to be respected,” Xi was quoted as saying by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

Meanwhile, Lukashenko also held a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and urged to give an impetus to the bilateral ties between the nations.&nbsp;

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is kicking off his three-day-visit to China on Tuesday (February 28). During his visit, he will meet Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

The state visit by Lukashenko -- a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin -- comes after Beijing released a position paper on Russia's war in Ukraine insisting it is a neutral party and calling for dialogue between the two sides.

It also follows allegations by the United States and NATO that Beijing could be mulling sending arms to Russia as the conflict enters its second year. China has strenuously denied the claims.

Ahead of Lukashenko's visit, Beijing hailed its "all-weather and comprehensive" strategic partnership with Minsk.

Lukashneko said in an interview to China's state-run Xinhua news agency that he was looking forward to meet his "old friend" Xi.

He also praised Beijing's position paper as "a testimony to its peaceful foreign policy as well as a new and original step that will have a far-reaching impact all over the world", Xinhua added.

"Today, not a single issue in the world can be resolved without China," Lukashenko said.

Xi has spoken to Putin several times since the war began, but has not done so with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

Lukashenko is a close ally of Putin and has backed Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Belarus shares a border with both Ukraine and Russia, but is financially and politically dependent on the Putin administration.

The state visit by Lukashenko -- a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin -- comes after Beijing released a position paper on Russia's war in Ukraine insisting it is a neutral party and calling for dialogue between the two sides. It also follows allegations by the United States and NATO that Beijing could be mulling sending arms to Russia as the conflict enters its second year. China has strenuously denied the claims. Ahead of Lukashenko's visit, Beijing hailed its "all-weather and comprehensive" strategic partnership with Minsk. Lukashneko said in an interview to China's state-run Xinhua news agency that he was looking forward to meet his "old friend" Xi. He also praised Beijing's position paper as "a testimony to its peaceful foreign policy as well as a new and original step that will have a far-reaching impact all over the world", Xinhua added. "Today, not a single issue in the world can be resolved without China," Lukashenko said. Xi has spoken to Putin several times since the war began, but has not done so with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. Lukashenko is a close ally of Putin and has backed Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. Belarus shares a border with both Ukraine and Russia, but is financially and politically dependent on the Putin administration. United States President Joe Biden on Thursday said that he will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in the wake of the shooting down of a Chinese balloon by the US Air Force earlier this month, which Washington claimed to be a high-tech Chinese spy device.

"I expect to be speaking with President Xi and... we're going to get to the bottom of this," Biden said, in the most extensive public remark made by him since the incident that took place on February 4.

While emphasising that the United States is "not looking for a new Cold War”, Biden said, "I make no apologies for taking down that balloon." "We'll always act to protect the interests of the American people and the security of the American people,” he added.

The United States has remained in a state of alarm since a huge white Chinese balloon was spotted flying over various secret nuclear weapons sites. China has claimed that the balloon is just a stray weather research craft, however, US officials claim that they have conclusive evidence that the balloon was a spy device.

The shooting down of the balloon created a diplomatic rift between the two countries with Secretary of State Antony Blinken's China visit getting abruptly cancelled. Beijing called Washington's actions an overreaction and claimed that there have been numerous incidents of US balloons flying over Chinese territory.

"We don't yet know exactly what these three objects were. Nothing right now suggests they're related to China's spy balloon programme or... surveillance vehicles from any other countries. The intelligence community's current assessment is that these three objects are most likely balloons tied to private companies" or research projects, said Biden.

However, "if any object presents a threat to the safety, security (of) the American people I will take it down," he added.

Resetting relations with China has become a top priority of Biden, which Washinton calls its biggest competitor. Biden and Xi have earlier expressed their wish to establish "guard rails" to avoid their superpower competition from becoming a conflict.

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman on Wednesday had said that the two countries have not "stopped communicating and trying to understand each other".

In the last two weeks, Biden added that his government has been "continuing to engage with China". "We seek competition, not conflict. This episode underscores the importance of maintaining open lines of communication between our diplomats and our military professionals,” he said.&nbsp;
