<p>Earlier, women only had right to homestead and not any property like agricultural land. The inheritance rights of of a women with respect to her husband's property was guided by Property Act, 1937. This act curtailed rights of Hindu women.</p>

<p>The historic verdict on Wednesday has come after 83 years.</p>

<p>Hollywood actress Viola Davis explained how Steve MacQueen's new movie 'Widows'&nbsp;is revolutionary in its portrayal and sexualization of a black woman on screen, the actress told EFE in an interview.</p>

<p>During the London presentation of 'Widows', a film with a female-heavy cast about how a group of widowed women decides to finish off a heist their criminal husbands were planning, Davis spoke to EFE about her role and the movie.</p>

<p>"I'm proudest of the fact of how the movie opens," the actress explained.</p>

<p>"With me kissing Liam Neeson in bed, with my natural hair, with my dark skin, with me being 53. I'm happiest with the sexualization of a black woman on screen. And he's not my slave-owner, he's not my pimp, he's my husband, " Davis added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actress denounced how the film industry has a very superficial stance when it comes to casting women of colour who get relegated to overly masculine subservient roles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think it's revolutionary, and I am 100 per cent sure that you will see it no other movie this year, or next year or the year after," Davis said when discussing the movie's depiction of black female sexuality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is based on a British television series from the 1980s.</p>

Davis, who is black, said she felt very excited when she read the script, adding: "It becomes a no-brainer ... I always say if I turned this role down it probably would have gone to a Caucasian actress."<br />

<p>In a first, Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna has taken his directorial debut film “The Last Color” to coveted film festival Cannes this year. The chef cum filmmaker unveiled the first look of his film today.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an email interview to IANS, Vikas wrote: "The film is about girl education and girl empowerment. I had written the (similarly titled) short story in 2011 when I was shooting in Vrindavan where I was researching around "UTSAV"&nbsp;(his culinary epic of Indian festivals).”</p>

<p>He explained his choice of theme and wrote: "More than the Holi celebrations, I was drawn to stories of some widows who were not playing Holi. I imagined, in my short story, the glorious day when their hope and faith will be filled with colours. In 2012, I saw on the American Yahoo homepage the stunning images filled with emotions when they played Holi. There were a million sentiments in those images, especially the one in which an elderly woman was lying on a ground smeared with colours. She was laughing and crying at the same time. That's when I turned my short story into a novel. But the visits to the ashrams of Vrindavan and Varanasi gave me more stories for this celebration.”</p>

<p>His film, "The Last Color"&nbsp;is currently in post-production and will first make an appearance at the film festivals before it gets released.&nbsp;</p>
