Russian President Vladimir Putin's verbal attack on the West rose to a crescendo for yet another time on Tuesday when he defended the war in Ukraine, saying it is the question of Russia's very existence as a state.

He made these remarks in a long address to workers at an aviation factory in Buryatia, a mountainous Russian republic in eastern Siberia, some 4,400 km east of the capital city of Moscow.

Russian president said that the Ukraine war is more than just a geopolitical task. "So, for us, this is not a geopolitical task, but a task of the survival of Russian statehood, creating conditions for the future development of the country and our children," Putin said in his address.

Russia has accused the West of “destabilising” the G20 finance chiefs’ meeting that took place in India’s southern Bengaluru city. It blamed the US, EU and G7 nations for trying to impose their “diktat” as the talks concluded with differences over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“We regret that the activities of the G20 continue to be destabilised by the Western collective and used in an anti-Russian... way," the foreign ministry said in statement on Saturday, reports AFP news agency.

It claimed that the Western nations "disrupted the adoption of collective decisions" by trying to impose their "diktat" with what they said was "clear blackmail".

“Their aim had been to impose their interpretation of the Ukraine conflict in the joint statement by means of lobbying and ultimatums," said the ministry statement.

The same countries had brought the resolution at the IAEA, which was the second of its kind within six months regarding a lack of "technically credible" answers provided by Iran.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Saturday that the Western world was well on its way to a "joint victory" over Russia. His remarks came as Ukrainian forces recaptured Kherson after Russian forces withdrew. Kuleba hailed West's military aid for making recapture of Kherson possible.

The Ukrainian national anthem rang out in Kherson after Moscow pulled its forces out of the city -- the first major urban hub to fall after President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion in February.

"It's only together that we will be able to prevail and to kick Russia out of Ukraine. We are on the way," Kuleba said.

"This is coming, and our victory will be our joint victory -- a victory of all peace-loving nations across the world."

Kuleba said that Ukrainians were celebrating liberation of Kherson and were shedding "tears of gratitude" for US for billions of dollars in military aid.

"We will always be grateful for everything President (Joe) Biden and the people of America, irrespective of their domestic political preferences, have done to make this happen," Kuleba said, days after US congressional elections that saw no significant boost to far-right critics of support to Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken hailed the "remarkable courage" of Ukraine's military and people and vowed that US support "will continue for as long as it takes" to defeat Russia.

Earlier, Kuleba also thanked Australia for its support -- $440 million of mostly military assistance -- during a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Ukraine says West is on way to joint victory in war with Russia, thanks for military aid

The Kremlin's spokesperson says that the goals of Russia's invasion of Ukraine can be achieved through talks. What will be Russian President Putin's next move? Priyanka Sharma tells you.

Gravitas: Ukraine war: Putin keeps the West guessing

Here we bring you a quick round-up of all latest news, top headlines and international breakings from all across the globe, stay tuned with Gravitas for more!

Gravitas Global Headlines: Israel-Lebanon deal; Russia blames West for energy crisis;

After Russia renewed its attack on many western cities of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky is now looking to the West for help. The war-torn country needs faster deliveries of weapons and looks like the allies are listening.

Ukrainian President Zelensky asks for faster deliveries of weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced military mobilisation and called out NATO allies. He said, NATO wants to start a war against our country and West is cultivating hatred for decades.

'NATO wants to start a war against our country,' says Russian President Vladimir Putin

On war with Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin said that Russia has not lost anything in the war and the West can not isolate Russia. He added, we will not hesitate to look towards other markets.

'Russia has not lost anything in the war,' says Vladimir Putin on war with Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended large-scale military exercises on Tuesday involving China and several other nations, this comes as Moscow seeks to strengthen its diplomatic ties in Asia amid the ongoing western sanctions.

Putin seeks closer ties with Asia as tensions with West intensifies

As the war in Ukraine grinds on, the US-led West is discovering that defeating Russia was easier said than done. The West is now realising that: the war will drag on for longer than foreseen; the US and Europe cannot keep boosting President Volodymyr Zelensky’s regime with a steady flow of readily usable weapons; Russia, far from being beaten by sanctions, has reaped economic gains in the process; and, above all, weaponising resources is a game that both sides can play.

To take the last point first, OPEC+, which is meeting today to discuss an output cut to prop up oil prices, has proved that it is no pushover. Petroleum prices have acquired a new urgency in the wake of Russia’s decision last week to shut down the Nordstream gas pipeline to Germany. Moscow said that this is being done to carry out repairs although it is, doubtless, a move to hit back at the G7 bloc that wants to impose a price cap on Russian oil imports. Thus, the G7 may not succeed in reducing Russia’s oil revenues.

Instead, Russia escalating the face-off over gas and oil exports will worsen winter shortages in Europe, thereby forcing the Continent to import fuel at much higher prices and still ration it.

Europe has accused Russia of weaponising energy supplies. The accusation cannot but draw attention to the US and Europe weaponising not only foreign exchange reserves and assets of Russia and other countries such as Afghanistan but also subverting the international banking system SWIFT to serve their military objectives.

The other truths are brought home by none less than US President Joe Biden, who led the West into this proxy war against Russia in the name of Ukraine’s independence. Speaking on Ukraine’s Independence Day last week, Biden did not mention Zelensky or his military campaign against Russia. He held out no promise of any support to Ukraine’s war effort. The recently announced arms worth $2.98 billion were for Ukraine to “continue to defend itself over the long term”.

As Washington distances itself from Kyiv, support for Ukraine is also drying up in Europe, particularly in Germany, France and Italy. These countries, including a refugee-weary Poland, are no longer keen to send weapons to Ukraine or continue the war against Russia. The anti-war protests in Germany underscore the extent of public and intra-party pressure that Chancellor Olaf Scholz is facing.

Ukraine is losing support outside the West, too, with less than a third of the UN’s 193 members willing to back any resolution condemning Russia.

The tide of world opinion is turning against Ukraine and its US-led patrons. (Disclaimer: The views of the writer do not represent the views of WION or ZMCL.
