MTV Video Music Awards since its launch in 1984 continues to be one of the most shocking and jaw-dropping award ceremonies. From Madonna kissing Britney Spears live in 2003 to Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke on stage in a barely-there two-piece costume in 2013, VMA sets the bar for the most scandalous on-stage performances, ever. In case you missed it, here's what went happened at the VMAs 2017: Katy Perry: The Host Katy Perry hosted the awards this year. She raised eyebrows for her bizarre costumes and hosting style. Hers was the strangest VMAs opening ever as she was suspended from the roof, dressed in a silver space suit. While some looked entertained by her act, others like Jack Antonoff and Ellen DeGeneres seemed less impressed. Her intergalactic-themed opening monologue was quite a start though for some. The Bon Appétit singer soon stripped into a nude bodysuit from her oh-so-shiny space suit and was quoted: “I gotta get out of this space suit." × × PINK: Video Vanguard Award PINK delivered a show-stopping speech while receiving her Video Vanguard Award from Ellen DeGeneres. The strong vocals singer spoke openly about body image while narrating an incident between her 6-year-old daughter Willow and her. × × × She said on stage: Willow recently told her, “Mama … I am the ugliest girl I know”. “And I said, ‘huh?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, I look like a boy with long hair,’” “And my brain went to, ‘Oh, my god. You are 6. Why? Where is this coming from? Who said this? Can I kick a 6-year-old’s ass?’ But I didn’t say anything." “Then I said, ‘I really want to know why you feel this way about yourself.’ She said, ‘I look like a boy.’ “I said, ‘What do you think I look like?’ “She said, ‘Well, you are beautiful.’ I was like, ‘Well, thanks. But when people make fun of me, that’s what they use.” “And I said to her, ‘do you see me growing my hair?’ She said, ‘no, Mama.’ I said, ‘do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, Mama.’ “Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, Mama.’ “So, baby girl, we don’t change, we take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. “We help other people to change so that they can see more kinds of beauty.” Taylor Swift: Premier of new single In another powerful performance, Taylor Swift made a mark even though she wasn't present at the VMAs herself. She stole the show by premiering her new single Look What You Made Me Do video. The Thriller-inspired clip features Swift dressed as clones of herself to represent the various stages of her career and life in general. It ends with her repeating her quote about her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian: “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative”. Lorde: Silent performance Lorde kept it quiet this year by just dancing throughout the time and not singing at all. She took to Twitter to explain that she has the flu "so bad" that she couldn't have sung at all. Miley Cyrus like last year ditched anything that covers her more than just the bare minimum. She was noticeably not wearing bra or pants. × Demi Lovato was seen braless turning heads on the red carpet. × Paris Jackson wore Dior knickers and a sheer dress over the top.
